Price Chopper store in Guilderland, NY to be converted into Market 32

Unique Layout Will Require Store to be Closed During Construction

Schenectady, NY, 2016-1-6 — /EPR Retail News/ — The Golub Corporation, parent company of Price Chopper, Market Bistro and Market 32, today announced its newest project to convert the Price Chopper store located in the Hamilton Square shopping plaza at the corners of Routes 20 and 155 in Guilderland, NY (the former 20 Mall Plaza) into a Market 32.

Construction is slated to begin the evening of January 23 and last until Spring of 2016. During the construction period, the store will be closed to enable a more efficient construction project. Customers are encouraged to shop at the other Guilderland Price Chopper located at the corner of Western Avenue and Johnson Road (approximately two miles away) or the Colonie Price Chopper on Central Avenue (less than four miles away).

“Given the unique configuration of this store, which is very long and narrow, it’s not practical for us to keep it open during the conversion,” said Mona Golub, VP Public Relations & Consumer Services for the homegrown chain. “So, we will temporarily close the store beginning at 6:00PM on January 23 to accommodate an accelerated construction schedule that will deliver a new Market 32 to our customers by early spring.”

All current teammates have been offered temporary positions at other local Price Chopper/Market 32 stores during the conversion of this store.

The look and feel of Market 32 is distinctively more modern than Price Chopper, though many of the differences are subtle. Marked by open space, a décor filled with soft earth tones and product-focused displays, murals and lighting, the brand emphasizes convenience, ready-to-eat foods, fresh, handcrafted, and locally grown, produced and manufactured products, and intuitive product/department adjacencies (e.g. greeting cards next to the floral department).

Work is already underway on the conversion to Market 32 of another Capital Region Price Chopper at Hudson Valley Plaza in Troy, NY (79 Vandenburg Place) as well as at a store in Torrington, CT.
