PetSmart encourages pet parents to treat their pets – furry and scaly – on Valentine’s Day

Recent Survey on Valentine’s Spending Shows Pet Parents Intend to Include Pets in Their Gift Giving

PHOENIX, 2017-Feb-09 — /EPR Retail News/ — Pets make us laugh, bring us joy, and sometimes they make messes, but no matter what pets do, we love them unconditionally. In the spirit of love, PetSmart, the largest specialty pet retailer across North America, encourages pet parents to treat their pets – furry and scaly – on Valentine’s Day.

Last week, the National Retail Foundation released its 2017 Valentine’s Day spending report citing nearly 20 percent of those surveyed plan to give gifts to their pets to celebrate the Valentine’s holiday, beating out those planning to give gifts to co-workers (10 percent), teachers (18 percent) and nearly neck-and-neck with those planning to give gifts to friends (20.2 percent).

“We love our pets and there is no better time to show that love than Valentine’s Day,” said Eran Cohen, chief customer experience officer, PetSmart. “Our new Valentine’s Day assortment has everything including festive apparel, unique treats and toys, as well as the exclusive-to-PetSmart ED Ellen DeGeneres collection with its signature “Love”-themed items.   As a trusted partner, we aim to provide pet parents with everything they need to shower their pets with love on Valentine’s Day and all year long.”

Brighten Up Their Wardrobe – Seasonal bandana collars, a top seller at PetSmart, are an easy option for keeping your pooch seasonably fashionable. The Top Paw® Valentine’s Bandana Dog Collar offers a respite from the dreary winter months with bright pops of red and pink and the new, exclusive-to-PetSmart ED Ellen DeGeneres collection also has a strong “love” vibe, with items including the Love-Themed Bandana Collar and Pocket Love Dog Tee. “Be Mine” Hair Bows and tees designed with love-inspired tick-tack-toe designs all but guarantee great photographs to share on social media. Don’t forget the Top Paw® Glitter Heart Hoodie Dress, with a ruffle skirt for the fashion-forward pup.

Deck Out Their Habitat (and Yours) – Ornaments are an easy way to freshen up a fish tank while also adding a pop of festive seasonal décor to your home. This year, PetSmart has nine new love-themed ornaments featuring a mermaid, smooching dolphins, hearts and a cupcake. Also new this year are two heart-shaped Top Fin® Betta Tanks. These desktop aquariums feature an LED light that illuminates your underwater habitat, making it especially entertaining for kids and anyone with a soft spot for love. Keep the love theme going in your home with the exclusive ED Ellen DeGeneres Love Bed, which is sure to bring stylish cozy comfort to pups for months to come.

Surprise Them with a New Toy – Plush “conversation” hearts with squeakers and messages like, “Free (Wet) Kisses” and “Love” spelled with a paw print are sure to delight any pup. Festive toys like the zebra flattie and rope tug toy encourage interactive playtime.

Treat Your Funny Valentine – Bocce’s Bakery Red Velvet Dog Treats offer a delicious way to commemorate Valentine’s Day. These heart-shaped treats are made with just a handful of ingredients like oat flour, beets and peanut butter. Additional treats include grilled chicken and cheese flavored Love Bites and peanut butter flavored Bits of Love.

Relax with a Spa Day – PetSmart Grooming Salons offer a range of indulgences ideal for pampering your pup like the Top Dog SPAW Coconut package which includes coconut-infused shampoo, paw massage, Very Berry face wash and a soothing treatment using coconut nose and paw moisturizing balm.*

Keep ‘em Kissably Fresh – It may be the month of love, but it’s also National Pet Dental Health Month! On the day when extra kisses are in order, ensure your pet’s teeth are clean and kissably fresh with GREENIES® Dental Chews for dogs and GREENIES® Dental Cat Treats.

Is this your puppy’s first Valentine’s Day? Join us Feb. 11 in stores from 12-3 pm (local time) at PetSmart’s “Puppy Love” event! In addition to providing pet parents with tips on how to keep your puppy healthy and strong, this family-friendly event will also offer free samples, coupons and a personalized paw print keepsake.**
