RILA again teams up with Sustainable Brands® for their 2018 flagship conference

Vancouver Event Will Feature Retail-Specific Program Track

Arlington , VA, 2017-Nov-29 — /EPR Retail News/ — Today (11/28/2017), the Retail Industry Leaders Association (RILA) announced that for the second year in a row they will be teaming up with Sustainable Brands® for their 2018 flagship conference in Vancouver, Canada. The event, Redesigning the Good Life, is the second of a three-year global initiative to discover how society’s desire to become a better world is transforming the way brands deliver value.

As part of the partnership, RILA will produce a retail-specific educational track focused on the issues, opportunities, and challenges of sustainable retail within the Sustainable Brands program – and specifically addressing the circular economy. The Sustainable Brands conference covers innovation and sustainability initiatives across multiple consumer-facing industries.

“We initially chose to partner with Sustainable Brands to introduce our retailers to new and innovative approaches to CSR, while continuing to deliver the leadership content historically featured at RILA’s Sustainability Conference,”said RILA Senior Vice President of Research, Innovation, & Sustainability Adam Siegel. “The Sustainable Brands community welcomed us with open arms, and I saw last year’s conference as a huge step toward building a lasting partnership. We look forward to building on that experience, and to bringing together our communities again for more transformational content and experiences in Vancouver.”

“We are delighted to continue our strategic partnership with RILA in 2018,” states KoAnn Vikoren Skryzniarz, founder of Sustainable Brands. “Retailers command a critical position within the global economy, with significant potential to both support and help reshape consumer choices and lifestyles. The retail sector has both a substantial need, and great opportunity to rethink business models and approaches to serving customers alongside the brands they choose to partner with. We look forward to another great year of convening both retailers and their brand partners together in one room to share insights and collaborate more fully on redesigning value propositions, business models, and customer experience in ways that support their own resiliency and a better future for all.”

The 2018 Sustainable Brands conference will be held June 4-7, 2018 in Vancouver, Canada. Pre-registration for SB’18 Vancouver is now open. Please inquire with Adam Siegel at RILA for special rates for retailers.

RILA to merge its sustainability-focused conference with Sustainable Brands

Arlington , VA, 2016-Sep-29 — /EPR Retail News/ — In her opening remarks at the Retail Sustainability and Environmental Compliance Conference, Retail Industry Leaders Association (RILA) President Sandy Kennedy announced that RILA will merge its sustainability-focused conference with Sustainable Brands. Beginning in 2017, the two will produce a single conference together than includes a retail-specific program track, in addition to Sustainable Brands’ usual program, which covers sustainability-led brand innovation across multiple consumer-facing industries.

“Over the last nine years, RILA’s sustainability program has evolved into an outcomes-oriented offering that provides retailers with the resources they need to excel at incorporating sustainability across their businesses,” said RILA President Sandy Kennedy. “We are proud of where the program is today and we look forward to partnering with Sustainable Brands to take our event to the next level. In addition to the retail specific content that retailers value, the new conference format will expose retailers to the leading sustainability practices employed by other major industries.“This strategic partnership offers a giant leap forward for both communities – retailers and their brand customers – who are key partners of the value network required to shift consumer demand and behavior as well as serve that new consumer demand,” states KoAnn Vikoren Skryzniarz, founder of Sustainable Brands.  “Merging the two events will create a stronger gravitational pull for the two communities to share insights and collaborate more fully. We look forward to accelerating momentum together heading into SB’17 Detroit and beyond.”

In addition to this partnership, RILA will continue to provide separate networking events for retailers throughout the year to maintain our established community of sustainability professionals. This includes a member-only meeting at US-based Sustainable Brands event, as well as the usual member meetings throughout the year.

This valuable new partnership with Sustainable Brands will also allow RILA to direct its energy toward growing its offerings for environmental compliance, energy, and responsible sourcing executives in retail – critical communities it has built over the last ten years.

Most notably, RILA will provide gathering places for those executives throughout the coming years. For environmental compliance executives, RILA will continue to host two annual meetings and other gatherings, as well as building its efforts to reform the Resource Conservation and Recovery Act (RCRA) and the Center for Retail Compliance (CRC), a key pillar for news and tools. For energy executives, RILA will host regional educational workshops and two annual meetings alongside Edison Electric Institute (EEI)’s National Accounts Meetings, and engage DOE, Deloitte, IMT, MIT, and other partners to grow its energy programming. And for its newest community of responsible sourcing executives, RILA will host members-only meetings alongside the ELEVATE Leadership Series and Intertek Ethical Sourcing Forum conferences, and build partnerships with government agencies and other key stakeholders. And for all of these important groups, RILA will generate and share valued resources, keep members informed on relevant issues, and host virtual forums to connect, learn, share, and grow on an even more frequent basis.

“While RILA’s resources devoted to retail’s sustainability, environmental compliance, energy, and responsible sourcing needs are growing, this partnership will allow us to direct those resources in even more targeted and valuable ways,” said Adam Siegel, RILA’s senior vice president for research, innovation, and sustainability. “I’m excited about the partnership with Sustainable Brands, and I’m also excited about the opportunities for these existing communities to grow even stronger.”

Major new additional announcements specific to RILA’s environmental compliance, energy, and responsible sourcing offerings will be made in the coming days.

SB’17 Detroit will be held May 22-25th in Detroit, Michigan. For more information, read this Q&A between Siegel and Skryzniarz or visit here.

RILA and global sustainability non-profit Forum for the Future launch two-minute video to introduce the Retail Horizons project

‘Retail Horizons’ Introductory Video Launched Ahead Of 2014 Retail Sustainability Conference

Arlington, VA, 2014-9-25— /EPR Retail News/ — Today, the Retail Industry Leaders Association (RILA) and global sustainability non-profit Forum for the Future released a two-minute video to introduce the Retail Horizons project ahead of the RILA 2014 Retail Sustainability Conference held from September 29 to October 2, 2014 in Minneapolis, Minnesota.

Retail Horizons is a program to support the industry’s drive to sustainability, and was made possible with the generous support of sponsors Target and Unilever. It is the culmination of a year-long collaboration between about 50 retail and consumer product brands and is designed to provide retailers with the tools they need to take action to safeguard their future, protect our environment, and improve the lives of their customers, workers, and suppliers.

The introductory video follows the trajectory of retail from its earliest beginnings in open air markets to the omnipresence made possible through major technological advances and encourages retailers and other stakeholders to use the Retail Horizons toolkit so they can begin to develop strategies to adapt and innovate.

“I am proud that the RILA sustainability community, composed of about 50 of the leading retail brands, came together to learn from one another, identify opportunities to grow and innovate together, and promote sustainability,” said Adam Siegel, Vice President of Sustainability and Compliance at RILA. “The world is changing rapidly in ways that have already had profound implications on the retail industry. Technologies like the internet and mobile devices will enable retailers to exist everywhere; consumers’ expectations around transparency, service, speed, and experience will continue to expand; resources, such as water and raw materials, are likely to become scarcer and more expensive; and data will be ubiquitous. To adapt and grow, retailers can use sustainability as a framework for innovation.”

The project will be formally launched at RILA’s Retail Sustainability Conference next week. Sally Uren, Forum for the Future’s Chief Executive Officer, will launch the program, including four expertly crafted ‘futures scenarios’ and a free toolkit, to an audience of 450 retail sustainability and environmental compliance professionals. The attendees will then have a chance to dive deep into the materials through three interactive two-hour work sessions on the Future of Stores, Future of Products and Value Chains, and Future of Consumers & Employees.

“Other industries have recognized the power of sustainability to drive the innovation needed if they are going to thrive into the long-term,” said Helen Clarkson, Director at Forum for the Future US. “The tools that we have developed through our work on Retail Horizons can help companies in the retail industry think through which challenges are most critical to them and how to tackle them to bring about the change we need for a sustainable future.”
