Displaysense has announced a large rise in sales of their book holders and literature stands since Apple launched their new flagship products; the iPhone 4 and the iPad.

Debenhams Notes The Rise Of The Sizzling Singleton

Debenhams, high street store, has reported that frying pans big enough to hold just one egg, small plates for just one slice of toast, and tea pots, which only hold one cup of tea are now some of the fastest selling items in cookware. The 140% sales increase is being attributed to the fact that more people than ever before are living alone*. As recently as 30 years ago, sales of such small singleton cook and dinnerware would have been virtually unheard of. Big, durable, family-sized dishes, plates and pans were the top sellers, with all cookware designed to hold enough food for at least four people, with many dishes able to cater for six, eight and sometimes ten guests. But a pivotal point was reached in 1996 when formal, large scale dinner parties were falling out of fashion after Black Wednesday.

The move away from super-sized cookware continued with invitations to trendy but simpler ‘suppers’ becoming common across the UK. Since then family birth rates and a greater number of women preferring to carve out successful careers rather than carve the Sunday roast have accelerated the trend.

Figures showing that more people are now living on their own for longer before getting married, a rising divorce rate, and an increase in the number of people who never marry at all, support the current boom in mini cookware.

Debenhams Director of Menswear Buying, Paul Baldwin, commented: “We’re calling it ‘Wainwright Chic’. Men and women have fallen in love with the rugged outdoor image the hill climbing clothing style portrays, and want to wear it every day.

“At one time, these specialist clothes would have been bought only by long distance hill walkers and mountaineers.

“Now, however, you’re more likely to see them worn on the streets of Kensington and Chelsea than Scafell or Grisedale Pike”.

The greatest irony is that Wainwright himself had a somewhat eclectic taste in men’s clothing. Many of his epic walks were conducted in an ancient flat cap and a battered, belted coat worn over a frumpy Fair Isle jumper which had seen better days. Badly fitting trousers held up by style-less braces were tucked into thick, grey woollen socks, which he allowed to accumulate in a haphazard manner, around the tops of crude but functional boots.

Displaysense Lend A Helping Hand To St Helena Hospice

Displaysense has announced it has donated display products to the St Helena Hospice shop in Colchester.

Hotter Comfort Concept, the North West-based shoe manufacturer, has recorded a sharp increase in sales in its high street stores fuelling its drive to increase its high street presence.

Debenhams Launches Tan Tone Chart To Help Achieve The Perfect Fake Tan

Debenhams has launched its new secret weapon for achieving the perfect fake tan this summer – the Tan Tone Colour Chart.

The chart, which resembles a paint colour guide, has been created to help tan-a-holics avoid fake tan disasters, like those famously suffered by celebrities such as Dale Winton, Lindsay Lohan, Hulk Holgan, Katie Price, Alex Reid and most recently the uber glamorous, Cheryl Cole.

JD Sports World Cup of Trainers

JD Sports, has launched its own take on this year’s World Cup and being the ‘King of Trainers’ there was only one thing this could ever involve, trainers and lots of them. The new competition will involve a total of 32 pairs of footwear, one pair to represent each of the countries competing in the 2010 World Cup.

At the start of the World Cup the sneaker heads at JD Sports selected 32 of their favourite Nike, Fred Perry and Adidas trainers. These trainers were then divided into eight groups with the top two teams f r o m each group progressing through to the knockout stages in their fight to compete for the overall title of World Champion of Trainers 2010.

The World Cup of Trainers competition is currently running on the JD Sports Official Facebook page where fans of JD are able to vote for their favourite trainers, each vote counting as a goal for their team with the most votes wining the match. The competition will close on the 11th of July, the same day as the World Cup final, so there is still time to enter.

Size? delved deep into the Adidas Originals’ City archives on 19th June and released the ‘Dublin’, one of the most sought after trainers from the original and previous ‘City’ collections. Limited to only 500 pairs, each are individually numbered, come in a custom made sleeve and sit alongside a specially produced Adidas Originals x size? 10th Anniversary track top, which is also individually numbered, this time only in runs of 300.

Having a ballot which gives customers the opportunity to buy a pair of trainers may seem a bit extreme. However after the unprecedented popularity of the Adidas Originals Manchester release in April, which saw customers queuing for up to 24 hours and traffic to the website being higher than over Christmas, Size? felt that with such limited stock they needed to find a fairer system. The new system allows customers to enter the online ballot prior to the trainers release and then if they are unsuccessful in the online ballot, they can then go queue up at the store to have a second chance.
