About SPAR Switzerland

SPAR Switzerland, originally an independent family-owned company with a local shareholder structure, was founded in 1989, when it was granted the licence by SPAR International to operate the brand.

In 2000, the family-owned business was transformed into a holding company with three operating companies: SPAR Handels AG, TopCC AG and SPAR Management AG. This move helped to give the company a modern, future-oriented structure. The business has recorded steady growth over the years, combining corporate and independently owned stores, spanning forecourt retailing to large supermarkets.

Etos drugstore expands its My Etos loyalty program with Gift Savings

Zaandam, Netherlands, 2018-Feb-15 — /EPR Retail News/ — Etos, our drugstore brand in the Netherlands, announced yesterday that it is expanding its My Etos loyalty program with a new feature called Gift Savings. The new option allows customers to earn a reward point for each euro they spend at Etos. For every 100 points, customers will receive a savings card they can exchange for certain A-brand items or redeem for a €5 discount on Etos own-brand products.

Gift Savings was created following feedback from My Etos members. While My Etos enabled shoppers to save for products, the discounts were only for temporary campaigns. With Gift Savings, customers can automatically and simply save for A-brand products – available from a frequently changing list – or earn the Etos own-brand reward. Customers have four weeks to redeem each 100-point savings card and select their gift.

To join My Etos, customers can download the brand’s app from the Apple Store or Google Play, and cards are available in all Etos stores. Current members will receive 40 loyalty points to celebrate Gift Savings, as will all new members who sign up before March 11.

Topaz awards €10,000 to Bray Hockey Club as part of its Cash for Clubs initiative

DUBLIN, IRELAND, 2017-Oct-17 — /EPR Retail News/ —

Bray Hockey Club Scoops top prize of €10,000

This year, over 3,000 clubs registered for the Topaz’ Cash for Clubs initiative. Since its launch in 2015, Cash for Clubs has €400,000 in prizes to clubs across the island of Ireland.

Bray Hockey Club, Co. Wicklow, is the grand prize winner of Cash for Clubs 2017. After signing up to the community initiative, members and friends of the Wicklow club simply fuelled up at their local Topaz in Brennanstown, Co. Wicklow, and donated their collected tokens to their club. Bray Hockey Club was then randomly drawn as this year’s lucky grand prize winner, scooping the top prize of €10,000.

Being at the heart of local communities across the country, Topaz recognises the vital role that clubs of all shapes and sizes play in providing opportunities for people of every age to learn new skills, socialise and be active. Given the challenges clubs across Ireland face when it comes to vital fundraising, Topaz introduced the ‘Cash for Clubs’ scheme in 2015 to give clubs the opportunity to generate much-needed funds by harnessing the support of their members and the local community.

Sarah O’Connor, Bray Hockey Club Treasurer said: “We are absolutely thrilled to be the winners of this year’s Cash for Clubs grand prize! €10,000 will go such a long way and will enable us to invest in new equipment and the development of our facilities. We are incredibly grateful and excited for what we can achieve, so a massive thanks to Topaz!”

MJ Tierney, Head of Marketing at Topaz, added: “We are delighted to be awarding the €10,000 grand prize to such a deserving club. Topaz strives to be an intrinsic part of communities across Ireland, providing a daily service across the 32 counties, and the Cash for Clubs initiative enables us to reward local clubs of all shapes and sizes. We would like to congratulate all our winners this year, and Bray Hockey Club especially, who have been lucky enough to win the €10,000 grand prize.

“Cash for Clubs offers an all-inclusive platform, which ensures everyone is a winner and rewards the tireless work of clubs across the country that demonstrate commitment to their communities, day in and day out. We are excited to see the positive impact that the grand prize will make to Bray Hockey Club over the coming months.”

BJ’s Charitable Foundation commits to nourishing communities and helping families thrive with $1 million donation to Feeding America

BJ’s Charitable Foundation commits to nourishing communities and helping families thrive with $1 million donation to Feeding America

WESTBOROUGH, Mass., 2017-May-12 — /EPR Retail News/ — BJ’s Wholesale Club today (May 9, 2017) announced a $1 million donation from its foundation to Feeding America, the nation’s largest domestic hunger-relief organization. BJ’s donation will support local food banks on the East Coast by providing infrastructure to support growth and resources to handle additional perishable food.

This donation supports the BJ’s Charitable Foundation’s mission to bring a fresh approach to nourishing communities and helping families thrive.

Since 2009, BJ’s has provided ongoing support to Feeding America through the BJ’s Charitable Foundation and BJ’s Feeding Communities® program, helping local food banks successfully expand their programs to reach wider and more diverse audiences. BJ’s $1 million donation to Feeding America is the foundation’s largest single donation to any organization to date.

“BJ’s is committed to nourishing our communities and helping families thrive, and we’re thrilled to support Feeding America with our foundation’s largest donation ever,” said Chris Baldwin, president and CEO, BJ’s Wholesale Club. “Every family should have access to fresh, nutritious food, and BJ’s is proud to partner with Feeding America to help make this a reality.”

In the United States, 72 billion pounds of food is wasted every year in the U.S., according to ReFED, a nonprofit committed to reducing U.S. food waste. This loss occurs at every stage of the food production and distribution system—from farmers to packers and shippers, to manufacturers and retailers.

“There is enough food produced in this country to feed every person who struggles with hunger in America, and sadly much of it never makes it to the dinner table,” said Andy Wilson, chief development officer of Feeding America. “Unfortunately, many perishables are wasted because an inability or lack of bandwidth to rescue and redistribute the massive amount of food that’s discarded. Thanks to BJ’s Charitable Foundation, we can grow our infrastructure and help ensure more families have access to healthy meals before nutritious, fresh food heads to landfills.”

In addition to capacity building grants from the BJ’s Charitable Foundation, BJ’s has secured over 50 million pounds of donated food, including fresh produce, frozen meats and fish, baked goods and dairy items, and helped deliver 13 million meals to neighbors in need through the BJ’s Feeding Communities® program.

Walmart and Sam’s Club partner to offer free health screenings across the country on Jan. 14

More than 5,200 locations to offer free health screenings Jan. 14

BENTONVILLE, Ark., 2017-Jan-14 — /EPR Retail News/ — Losing weight is the number one New Year’s resolution for a majority of Americans, according to the Statistic Brain Research Institute, and by mid-January nearly 30 percent of those resolutions will be abandoned. To help customers and members get back on track, Walmart and Sam’s Club have teamed up to offer free health screenings in more than 5,200 locations across the country on Jan. 14.

This joint effort will make it easier than ever for hundreds of thousands of Americans to learn critical information that will help them keep their health-focused intentions on track.

“Knowing your numbers is critical to achieving your healthy resolutions and to maintaining a healthy lifestyle,” said George Riedl, senior vice president and president, Walmart Health & Wellness. “That’s why Walmart and Sam’s Club have joined together for the very first time to kick off 2017 with the company’s largest free health screening event to-date.”

According to the CDC, more than one-third of adults in the United States are obese, making body fat and body mass index among the important numbers to understand. Obesity-related conditions include heart disease, stroke, type 2 diabetes and certain types of cancer, some of the leading causes of preventable death. Sam’s Club locations will provide body fat readings, and for the first time in Walmart stores, customers can test for body fat and body mass index.

Over the course of 2016, Walmart and Sam’s Club collectively provided nearly a half million free health screenings to people across the country. At Walmart alone, nearly 250,000 were conducted in October. Sam’s Club began offering free health screenings in 2010 and has conducted more than one million screenings since the program began.

These events have helped countless individuals uncover existing health problems, including high blood pressure, signs of diabetes and other potential illness.

Walmart Screening Information
Walmart Wellness Day will take place from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. local time on Saturday, Jan. 14, in more than 4,600 Walmart stores across the country. Free screenings will include blood glucose, blood pressure, vision, and for the first time body fat and body mass index. Product samples and health insurance information will be available. More than 10,000 of Walmart’s licensed pharmacists will offer immunizations in select stores. Walmart continues to break company records at screening events. In October alone, nearly 52,000 immunizations were administered and more than 2 million free samples were distributed in a single event.

Sam’s Club Screening Information
Free screenings at Sam’s Club locations are open to members and the public and will be held from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. local time in approximately 618 clubs across the country. Screenings*, which are valued at up to $150, will include free blood glucose, blood pressure, vision / hearing (where applicable), body fat, total cholesterol and HDL (good cholesterol). Sam’s Club licensed pharmacists will be on-hand to offer immunizations as well.

“Sam’s Club and Walmart are committed to helping the communities we serve lead healthier lives,” said Jill Turner-Mitchael, senior vice president of Sam’s Club, Consumables and Health and Wellness. “We invite you to our locations this weekend to experience our health screenings to start or restart your healthy choices for the year.”

Sam’s Club offers free health screenings the second Saturday of every month from January to October. Check your local pharmacy for other dates and times.

BJ’s Wholesale Clubs donates to St. Vincent de Paul of Baltimore to help families in need this Thanksgiving

BJ’s Wholesale Clubs donates to St. Vincent de Paul of Baltimore to help families in need this Thanksgiving

BALTIMORE, 2016-Nov-05 — /EPR Retail News/ — This November, 400 families will receive a turkey and all the trimmings for their Thanksgiving meal, thanks to the generous donation provided by St. Vincent de Paul of Baltimore’s Parish Conference at Immaculate Conception-St. Cecilia and the BJ’s Wholesale Clubs in Baltimore, Canton and Owings Mills. Earlier today (Nov. 2, 2016), BJ’s presented a check to St. Vincent de Paul of Baltimore to help families in need just in time for Thanksgiving.

Immaculate Conception-St. Cecilia’s Parish Conference, under the auspices of St. Vincent de Paul of Baltimore, assists families in the community in need of food. More than 765 volunteer members at 38 parish-based St. Vincent de Paul of Baltimore’s Conferences, part of the larger National St. Vincent de Paul Society Network, provide a network of support for people suffering from the effects of poverty in communities throughout the Baltimore Archdiocese. Conference members provide food, utility and rent assistance, and other items of necessity to help neighbors in need through difficult times.

One in four children in Baltimore is at risk of hunger and one in eight Maryland households face a constant hunger battle.  Among them are Baltimore residents who live in “food deserts” or neighborhoods whose residents lack access to affordable and healthy foods due to the lack of supermarkets with fresh foods, access to transportation, and low household income.  The challenges of hunger extend beyond those unable to afford food to include those whose only food options are ones that lack nutrition.

“We look forward to providing hundreds of families with a Thanksgiving meal this giving season,” said St. Vincent de Paul of Baltimore President & CEO John Schiavone. “BJ’s is a wonderful community partner to both St. Vincent de Paul and our parish conferences.”

Through charitable giving, community relations programs, product donations and grants from BJ’s Charitable Foundation®, BJ’s Wholesale Club supports and enhances programs that provide vital services within each community. They focus primarily on children and families with the goal of creating a positive, long-lasting impact.

“Giving back to our community is important to us,” said Anna D’Addario, General Manager of BJ’s Wholesale Club in Canton, MD. “BJ’s is happy to partner with St. Vincent de Paul of Baltimore to provide turkeys and fresh foods to local families in need.”

For media and photo opportunities, please contact Christine Runion at 410-662-0500 ext. 226.

For over 150 years, St. Vincent de Paul of Baltimore has been a leading provider of community services to people suffering from the effects of hunger, homelessness, and poverty in Baltimore, Maryland.  We are proud to be a United Way Impact Partner and to be recognized by Maryland Nonprofits with the Seal of Excellence for maintaining the highest standards of ethics and accountabilities in nonprofit governance, management, and operations.

NUS extra cardholders get extra discount by signing up to Co-op membership

MANCHESTER, England, 2016-Oct-11 — /EPR Retail News/ — Thousands of NUS extra cardholders are bagging an extra boost to their budget by signing up to Co-op membership, a move that could provide combined savings for students of approaching £7.5M while earning £300,000 for good causes.

In addition to the 10 per cent discount available in-store for NUS extra cardholders, students – who are also a Member of the Co-op – receive a further 5 per cent reward into their membership account when purchasing own-branded products and services. Students are also sold on the concept of a further 1% directly benefitting local good causes, community groups and charities.

Jemima Bird, Customer Director at the Co-op, said: “With many students living away from home for the first time our partnership with NUS extra aims to support young people trying to balance their budget – eating the right food is not only affordable, but can also bring about a boost to health, wellbeing and even educational achievement.”

Richard Brooks Vice-President (Union Development) at NUS, said: “The cost of living is a concern for students and this move which further helps to reduce the burden on their budgets is very welcome. As a community retailer the Co-op’s stores are conveniently placed and its new membership proposition not only provides a 5% personal reward, but gives 1% to good causes to make a difference in local communities – something that this generation of student cares deeply about. With food provenance a concern its commitment to backing British farming should be applauded and at the same time, its investment in lowering prices has seen over 1,000 everyday essentials reduced.”

The NUS extra card offers over 200 UK student discounts and comes with one year FREE ISIC – un-locking over 42,000 international discounts. The card costs on average less than £11 per year when purchasing a three year card. For further information visit http://www.nus.org.uk/en/nus-extra/discounts/
