THIRD BOOK OF VERSE FROM THE PEOPLE’S POET MICK COLLISS

Perth, Australia, 2018-Sep-20 — /EPR Retail News/ — Mick Colliss has delivered his poems all over the world. From Centre Court at Rod Laver Arena, to Olympic athlete functions, to audiences in the United States.

Now the author, poet, guest speaker, commentator and former vice-captain of the Australian Sudoku team has released a new collection of verse – his third.

His poems are dry, funny, occasionally moving and uniquely Australian.

Titled What Rhymes with George? his book contains over 40 different poems written over the past 10 years and covers a range of sports, occasions and anecdotes as well as tributes to individuals including Dennis Commetti, former Wallaby Nathan Sharpe and events like the San Jose copper mine rescue and the devastating Queensland flood.

“In 2003 the West Coast Eagles asked me to write a poem to commemorate Glen Jakovich’s 250th game,” Colliss said. “My first thought was: what rhymes with Jakovich?”, which became the title of my first book. I took it in to Radio 6PR in Perth and gave a copy to the legendary broadcaster, George Grljusich. He looked at the title and answered “Grljusich”.

“I thought of calling this book What Rhymes with Grljusich? in honour of the great man but thought it would be too hard to find on Google, so called it What Rhymes with George? instead.

“It’s much easier to spell.”

Colliss has been writing his unique form of poetry for many years and his work has appeared in The Sydney Morning Herald, The Sunday Times, Australian Rugby News and The West Australian. He has written on request for organisations including the West Coast Eagles, the WA Olympic Committee, the WACA, Western Force, Fremantle Dockers and Ronald McDonald House.

The foreword of What Rhymes with George? has been written by Basil Zempilas, most notably of Channel 7 and Radio 6PR.

Mick’s most recent commissioning was to write a poem for Tennis Australia, which he performed on centre court at Rod Laver Arena – with luminaries such as Martina Navratilova, Billie Jean King, Frank Sedgman and Laver himself standing alongside – during the 2018 Australian Tennis Open.

What Rhymes with George? is available at selected outlets and online at https://www.whatrhymeswithgeorge.com

Colliss is available for all media and interviews. Contact Mick Colliss on 0409 090 290 or by email at mick@mickcolliss.com

Costa names Inside the Wave by the late poet and author Helen Dunmore 2017 Book of the Year

London, 2018-Feb-03 — /EPR Retail News/ — Inside the Wave by the late poet and author Helen Dunmore has been named winner of the 2017 Costa Book of the Year. The collection, Dunmore’s tenth, explores the borderline between the living and the dead – the underworld and the human living world – and the exquisitely intense being of both, and includes her final poem, ‘Hold out your arms’, written shortly before her death in June 2017, aged 64.

Dunmore is the second writer to take the overall prize posthumously in the Award’s 46-year history. Ted Hughes posthumously won the Poetry Award and Book of the Year in 1998 for Birthday Letters.

The announcement was made this evening (Tuesday 30th January) at an awards ceremony held at Quaglino’s in central London where Dunmore’s son, Patrick Charnley, accepted a cheque for £30,000, from Dominic Paul, Managing Director of Costa.

Wendy Holden, Chair of the final judges, said: “We all felt this is a modern classic; a fantastic collection, life-affirming and uplifting. The poems carry powerful messages that speak to all of us.”

Holden chaired a final judging panel that included Contributing Editor to British Vogue, Laura Bailey; author and presenter, Fern Britton; actor Art Malik; BBC presenter and journalist Sophie Raworth; writers Piers Torday, Freya North and Simon Garfield; and poet Moniza Alvi.

Inside the Wave, published by Bloodaxe Books, is the eighth collection of poetry to take the overall prize. Poetry has a strong record in the Costa Book Awards, often winning the overall prize several times in a row. Most recently, Christopher Reid won in 2009 with A Scattering, followed by Jo Shapcott with Of Mutabilitya year later in 2010. The 2016 Costa Book of the Year was Days Without End by Sebastian Barry, the first novelist ever to win the Book of the Year twice.

Inside the Wave beat the bookmakers’ favourite, Eleanor Oliphant is Completely Fine by bestselling debut novelist Gail Honeyman, family memoir, In the Days of Rain by author and academic Rebecca Stott, Reservoir 13 by novelist Jon McGregor and The Explorer by children’s author Katherine Rundell for to win the overall prize and a cheque for £30,000 at the awards ceremony.

The Costa Book Awards is the only major UK book prize that is open solely to authors resident in the UK and Ireland and also, uniquely, recognises the most enjoyable books across five categories – First Novel, Novel, Biography, Poetry and Children’s Book – published in the last year.

Originally established in 1971 by Whitbread Plc, Costa announced its takeover of the sponsorship of the UK’s most prestigious book prize in 2006. 2017 marks the 46th year of the Book Awards.

Since the introduction of the Book of the Year award in 1985, it has been won twelve times by a novel, five times by a first novel, six times by a biography, eight times by a collection of poetry and twice by a children’s book.

Luan Goldie wins 2017 Costa Short Story Award

Also announced at the ceremony was the winner of the Costa Short Story Award. Primary school teacher and former business journalist, Luan Goldie from Newham in East London, won the public vote and £3,500 for her story, Two Steak Bakes and Two Chelsea Buns. Two runners-up, civil servant Chris Hunter from Teddington in South-West London and poet and short story writer, Frances Ainslie from Dunblane, Perthshire, received £1,000 and £500 respectively.

Established in 2012, this Award – run in association with the Costa Book Awards but judged independently of the main five-category system – is judged anonymously (ie without the name of the author being known throughout the process). It is for a single, previously unpublished short story of up to 4,000 words written in English by an author aged 18 years or over, and is open to both published and unpublished writers.

A shortlist of three stories was selected by a panel of judges – Sarah Franklin, Joe Haddow, Adele Parks, Simon Trewin and Kit de Waal – and then made available on the Costa Book Awards website for the public to download and vote for their favourite. Costa Managing Director, Dominic Paul, announced the winner and runners-up and presented them with their cheques.

7‑Eleven now offers an affordable, fashion-forward line of makeup with the launch of Simply Me Beauty™

IRVING, TEXAS, 2017-Nov-22 — /EPR Retail News/ — For women on the go, 7‑Eleven now offers cosmetic convenience with the launch of Simply Me Beauty™, an affordable, fashion-forward line of makeup. Available exclusively at 7‑Eleven stores, the Simply Me Beauty brand was created to appeal to millennial women.

The assortment of 40 items is designed to meet the needs of any female consumer. The well-rounded collection of cosmetics and cosmetic accessories for the face, eyes and lips includes offerings for day or night use, different complexion types and skin tones. All items are affordably priced between $3 and $5.

Appropriate for any age, the new Simply Me Beauty line of cosmetics was created for busy millennial-aged women looking for their makeup and accessory must-haves while taking care of business, family and themselves.

“The beauty industry has seen dramatic growth of cost-conscious cosmetics in the marketplace because millennial women are looking for a variety of colors at affordable prices,” said Lindsay Robertson, 7‑Eleven product development category manager. “They like to buy and try, and our goal when developing the Simply Me Beauty line was to create a line of makeup that had a quality look and feel without a high price barrier.”

Beauty products is a $46 billion industry that is expected to increase by 12 percent by 2020, and makeup makes up 17 percent of the cosmetic market, another number that is expected to continue to grow. Drug stores and supermarkets have 30 percent of the market, and 7‑Eleven plans to gain market share in a big way with this introduction.

Items in the special freestanding “Gorgeous on the Go” display include: eyeshadow palettes, blushers, highlighter, bronzer, BB foundation creams, hi-def concealers, volumizing mascara, eyebrow powder and wax, eyeliner, lip gloss and crayons, cream lipsticks, translucent powder compact, faux eyelashes, assorted makeup brushes, blender sponge, eye makeup remover, nail buffer and nail polish remover.

“Convenience isn’t always just about a quick stop for something to eat and drink,” said Jack Stout, 7‑Eleven senior vice president of merchandising. “7‑Eleven tries to offer our customers solutions for lots of different needs. We believe that for many, this top quality line of cosmetics and cosmetic accessories can become regular purchases in addition to fill-in stops.”

“Much of the time, makeup items like lip and eye colors are spur-of-the-moment, impulse buys,” said Joy Pico, 7‑Eleven category manager. “If the price is right, that makes it easier to justify. For a millennial working woman wanting to refresh her makeup while grabbing lunch at 7‑Eleven stores, Simply Me Beauty is a welcomed offering and is priced just right for her. ”

The 7‑Eleven private brands team benchmarks all new items against popular national brands to ensure equal or better quality along with features not found anywhere else. When customers try any of the items carrying one of the 7‑Eleven brands, they are surprised to find it at 7‑Eleven, and delighted at the item’s uniqueness, quality and value.

7‑Eleven is supporting the launch with a social media program during the holiday shopping season.

Barnes & Noble survey: Americans turn to books on Thanksgiving Eve more than any other day of the year

National Poll Conducted by Barnes & Noble Finds Most Americans Turn to a Good Read to Get Through Stressful Holiday Travels

New York, 2017-Nov-14 — /EPR Retail News/ — Barnes & Noble, Inc. (NYSE: BKS), the world’s largest retail bookseller, recently commissioned an independent survey to explore consumer reading habits around the holiday season, and the results revealed that Americans turn to books and periodicals on Thanksgiving Eve more than any other day of the year to help ease the stress of traveling. Historically, the Thanksgiving holiday is the busiest travel time of the year, notorious for transportation delays burdening travelers at every turn.

“The holiday season is an exciting, but hectic time for people all over the country. At Barnes & Noble, we know our customers want a stress-free holiday experience, whether shopping for gifts in-store or purchasing a good read to enjoy during their holiday commutes,” says Liz Harwell, Senior Director of Merchandising, Trade Books.  “Knowing that Thanksgiving Eve is the busiest reading day of the year, we’re excited to welcome customers into our stores to take advantage of one-of-a-kind bookseller recommendations and exclusives.”

It’s Official: Thanksgiving Eve Is the Busiest Reading Day of the Year
Holiday travel is often characterized by crowds, delays and traffic jams. However, when survey respondents take the time to read while traveling, 73 percent report that reading makes the trip more relaxing, while 72 percent say reading a book they enjoy makes their trip more enjoyable. Reading is indeed the antidote to holiday travel stress.

  • Over three-fourths of Americans (77 percent) read at least one book, newspaper or magazine during Thanksgiving travel or a typical holiday travel day.
  • Nearly three-fourths of respondents (73 percent) generally think that traveling on Thanksgiving Eve is a good time to bring a book they would enjoy and be able to read.
  • When thinking specifically about traveling on Thanksgiving Eve, 60 percent of travelers typically pack, purchase or borrow reading materials (books, newspaper, magazines, digital books) specifically for their planned travel.
  • Slightly more than one-in-four Americans (28 percent) think that bringing a great book along for Thanksgiving could give them a way to get out of an uncomfortable or awkward conversation with a relative or other guest.

Consumers Look Forward to Reading During Holiday Travel
Because of the hustle and bustle of daily life, particularly during holiday season, more than half of respondents reported that they don’t get to read or enjoy books as much as they would like. In fact, reading tops the list of what most consumers wish they had more time to do, followed by spending time with loved ones and exercise. Travel provides a respite of sorts; 71 percent of respondents think that travel time is a good opportunity to catch up on a good book or magazine they have been meaning to pick up.

Respondents also found that the top five benefits of reading a book while traveling, rated in order, are:

  • Reading is a good pastime if I get delayed while traveling. (56 percent)
  • Reading is relaxing and helps ease the stress of hectic traveling. (53 percent)
  • A good book “transports” me somewhere else. (47 percent)
  • I can catch up on books that I have wanted to read, but normally do not have the time to read. (47 percent)
  • Reading gives me a chance to learn something new. (46 percent)

In addition, when respondents find the time to read a book they enjoy while traveling, 73 percent say that reading makes their trip more relaxing, and 72 percent say reading a book they enjoy while traveling makes their trip more enjoyable. This is a particularly noteworthy finding in today’s travel environment, which is often characterized by stressful and unenjoyable moments.

Holiday Travel Recommendations from Barnes & Noble Booksellers to You

To help travelers make the most of their travel time – whether spending two hours on the road or 10 – Barnes & Noble booksellers can recommend the perfect read. Customers should visit their local Barnes & Noble store and speak with a knowledgeable bookseller or go online at BN.com to find the ideal book that will help them get through their holiday commute.

Methodology

Barnes & Noble commissioned the survey, conducted as an online poll among the U.S. General Population – 18+ years of age, nationwide representative sample (n=1,028). The online poll was conducted October 27-29, 2017, and the margin of error is +/- 3 percentage points ( Confidence Level).

Amazon unveils the Top 100 books of 2017

Amazon book editors reveal the 100 best books of the year, selecting titles in over twenty categories

SEATTLE, 2017-Nov-09 — /EPR Retail News/ — Today (Nov. 8, 2017), Amazon.com announced its selections for the Best Books of 2017, naming David Grann’s nonfiction Killers of the Flower Moon: The Osage Murders and the Birth of the FBI the Best Book of the Year. Just in time for the holidays, the annual list features the Top 100 books of the year plus Top 20 lists across various categories ranging from literary fiction and mystery to children’s and young adult. All lists are hand-selected by Amazon’s team of editors – who read hundreds of thousands of pages throughout the year – first by choosing the best books of every month and then, finally, the best books of the year. To see the full list of the Best Books of 2017 and buy the print or Kindle editions, visit: https://amazon.com/bestbooks2017

“In a year when there were many strong contenders for Best of the Year, David Grann’s book offered readers something exceptional,” said Sarah Harrison Smith, Editorial Director of Books and Kindle at Amazon.com. “Killers of the Flower Moon tells the largely unknown true story of big oil and serial murder in Osage County, Oklahoma, in the 1920s. It’s meticulously researched and shines an important light on what is at once an unsurprising and yet unbelievable chapter in American history.”

Here are the Amazon Editorial Team’s Top 10 picks this year:

1. Killers of the Flower Moon: The Osage Murders and the Birth of the FBI by David Grann: Grann’s account of a 1920s investigation into the murders of oil-rich members of the Osage Nation in Oklahoma has the grim excitement of film noir, the heady intellectual pleasure of well-told history and writing worthy of The New Yorker, where Grann is on staff. Though Killers of the Flower Moon is set in the past, the bigotry, greed and corruption Grann exposes feel relevant to our times. Grann’s previous books include The Lost City of Z: A Tale of Deadly Obsession in the Amazon.

2. Little Fires Everywhere: A Novel by Celeste Ng: In this tightly woven, emotionally fraught novel set in a picture-perfect suburb of Cleveland, Ng addresses timely issues of motherhood, privilege and race. Ng’s debut novel, Everything I Never Told You, was Amazon’s Best of the Year choice for 2014; her new book continues her compelling exploration of the tension between established social order and cultural change.

3. Beartown: A Novel by Fredrik Backman: Backman explores community, loyalty and its limits in this eminently readable, compassionate novel set in a small town that comes together over ice hockey and then comes apart over allegations of sexual violence. Backman’s previous books include A Man Called Ove.

4. Exit West: A Novel by Mohsin Hamid: In this fable-like tale, in which two lovers flee their war-ravaged homeland to seek refuge abroad, Hamid upends our cultural assumptions and stakes an optimistic claim for the enduring pleasures of imagination and narrative, even in the midst of war. Hamid’s previous books include The Reluctant Fundamentalist.

5. Homo Deus: A Brief History of Tomorrow by Yuval Noah Harari: Harari’s look at humanity’s possible future (the dark, technocratic version) is fascinating, provocative and illuminating. Harari is also the author of Sapiens: A Brief History of Humankind.

6. Lincoln in the Bardo: A Novel by George Saunders: Saunders’s stylistically inventive, ribald and poignant first novel, narrated almost entirely by ghosts, veers from hilarious to heartbreaking. Saunders’s previous books include Tenth of December: Stories.

7. The Heart’s Invisible Furies: A Novel by John Boyne: In this sweeping and magnetic novel set in post-war Ireland, Boyne dexterously expands the story of one man’s life into a portrait of a culture in transition. Boyne’s previous books include The Boy in the Striped Pajamas.

8. You Don’t Have to Say You Love Me: A Memoir by Sherman Alexie: In Alexie’s extraordinary memoir of his whip-smart, sometimes cruel mother, he connects her turbulent life to the widespread American Indian experience of violence and oppression. Alexie’s previous books include The Absolutely True Diary of a Part-Time Indian.

9. Sourdough: A Novel by Robin Sloan: Sloan’s delightful novel about a software engineer who finds her true calling when she is bequeathed a sourdough starter with magical properties has an inspiring message about the importance of finding work you love. Sloan’s previous books include Mr. Penumbra’s 24-Hour Bookstore: A Novel.

10. The Dry: A Novel by Jane Harper: In her gripping debut novel, the only mystery among this year’s top 10, Harper masterfully evokes the atmosphere of a drought-stricken farm town where lies told in the past may be linked to the violent deaths of a young local family.

Here are some interesting facts about this year’s Best Books of the Year list:

  • The authors of the Top 10 books come from six different countries: the United States, Sweden, Ireland, Pakistan, Australia and Israel.
  • Through the end of October 2017, Kindle customers across the globe read over 91 million pages from the Top 10 book selections.
  • According to Amazon Charts, on average, Kindle readers of Sourdough: A Novel read it in half the time of other bestselling titles.
  • It’s been seven years since a nonfiction book was selected as the Best Book of the Year. The last time was in 2010 when the Editors selected The Immortal Life of Henrietta Lacks by Rebecca Skloot.
  • Number of space exploration-related books in the top 100 and Children’s categories: 5

The top picks in Children’s books are:

  • Nevermoor: The Trials of Morrigan Crow by Jessica Townsend (ages 9-12): A mentor reminiscent of Willy Wonka helps a cursed girl escape death, kicking off a wildly imaginative adventure full of magic, trials of courage and friendship. An exciting debut for fans of Harry Potter or any young reader looking to begin a fast-paced new series.
  • The Antlered Ship by Dashka Slater, illustrated by Eric Fan and Terry Fan (ages 6-8): Breathtakingly beautiful illustrations accompany this charming story of a fox who learns that friends come in all shapes and sizes, curiosity brings adventure, and that—though life may be unpredictable—the journey is magical.
  • Dog Man: A Tale of Two Kittens by Dav Pilkey (ages 6-8): Dav Pilkey’s latest series has taken off like wildfire, and in the third book the crime fighting and evil-doing continue, with the addition of a kitten who brings a few surprises. Pilkey again gives young readers – reluctant or not – a reason to pick up a book and discover the fun within.

This year five debut authors top the category lists, including Jessica Townsend with Nevermoor (Children’s Books), Ray Dalio with Principles: Life and Work (Business and Leadership), Jane Harper with The Dry (Mysteries and Thrillers), Katherine Arden with The Bear and the Nightingale(Science Fiction and Fantasy) and Katie Green with Lighter Than My Shadow (Comics and Graphic Novels).

In addition to being available for purchase online and via Kindle, the Top 15 Best of the Year adult and children’s books are available for purchase at all Amazon Books locations (www.amazon.com/amazonbooks) and the Top 20 Best of the Year titles and many more within the Top 100 are available to listen to via Audible.com as well.

Argentine author Cristian Perfumo wins Amazon’s Literary Award for independent Spanish-language authors

  • El Coleccionista de flechas by Argentine author Cristian Perfumo, will get the chance to be published globally in Spanish by Amazon Publishing in digital, print and audio formats, and translated into English and published globally by AmazonCrossing
  • Winning entry selected from more than 1,800 works of fiction and non-fiction submitted from 39 countries using Amazon’s self-publishing serviceKindle Direct Publishing (KDP)

SEATTLE, 2017-Nov-08 — /EPR Retail News/ — Amazon today (Nov. 6, 2017) announced that Argentine author Cristian Perfumo has won its Fourth Annual Literary Award for independent Spanish-language authors with his thriller El Coleccionista de flechas. The winning entry was selected from more than 1,800 submissions from 39 countries that were self-published through Kindle Direct Publishing (KDP) between July 1 and August 31.

Perfumo was one of five finalists whose books were reviewed by a panel of celebrity judges that included best-selling author and coach Ismael Cala, popular Latin American author Blanca Miosi, and Jordi Sierra i Fabra, a best-selling author from Spain.

To be eligible, stories had to be original works written in Spanish, published only through KDP in both digital and print formats, and available exclusively to Kindle through enrollment in KDP Select. The countries with the highest number of participating authors were (in order) Spain, Mexico, Argentina, the United States, and Colombia.

“When I hung up the phone, I hugged my wife and found myself overcome with happiness,” Perfumo said after learning his book had been selected to receive the award. “It was then that I realized the true meaning of winning Amazon’s Literary Award: a lot of new readers were about to transport themselves to my homeland, Patagonia (Argentina), through my stories. A beautiful dream come true.”

One of the judges, Sierra i Fabra, described El Coleccionista de flechas as “a classic police thriller that presents Patagonia and its people with precision, kindling readers’ interest. The plot is well-threaded, excellently crafted, with solid characters. It also has a coherent and precise ending as well.”

As the winning entry, El Coleccionista de flechas will get the chance to be published globally in Spanish by Amazon Publishing in digital, print and audio formats, and translated into English and published globally by AmazonCrossing. Perfumo also will receive a cash prize of $5,000 USD.

Charles Kronbach, Director, Kindle Direct Publishing, explained that self-publishing with KDP gives authors more choices than ever about how to bring their writing to readers.

“This award recognizes the fact that there are many incredibly talented writers out there who have stories to tell and readers eager to access their work,” Kronbach said. “We’re proud to help bring these authors and readers together.”

All books entered in the contest are available at the Kindle Store and can be read on any device with the free Kindle app for iPhone, iPad, Android phones and tablets, PC and Mac, and on Kindle e-readers and Fire Tablets. Kindle Unlimited subscribers also can read many of the books with no additional cost. The full catalog of 2017 Literary Award submissions, as well as this year’s finalists, are available online at www.amazon.com/premioliterario. Previous winners of the award include Ningún escocés verdadero (2016) by Ana Ballabriga and David Zaplana, La hija del dragón (2015) by Myriam Millán, and La mirada de piedra (2014) by Jorge Magano.

(NYSE: BKS), the world’s largest bookseller and a leading retailer of content, digital media and educational products, today (November 1, 2017) announced the new NOOK GlowLight 3, the Company’s first device with enhanced front light technology. This innovation allows users to read with a cool white light during the day, then manually or automatically switch to an “Auto Night Mode,” providing a warmer orange tone for perfect bedtime reading. The beautifully designed and lightweight new eReader is available now for pre-order at BN.com/NOOK and will be on sale at Barnes & Noble stores starting Wednesday, November 8, for just $119.99

“We’re so excited to launch this new NOOK for the holiday season because it’s designed with the Barnes & Noble reader in mind. The First NOOK to Feature Night Mode Control

NOOK GlowLight 3 has enhanced front light technology that makes it the perfect eReader from day-to-night. The automatic setting mimics the sun’s natural progression throughout the day, gradually changing the color on the screen from a cool white during the day to a warmer orange tone – perfect for bedtime reading. Readers will notice and appreciate the reduced amounts of blue light emitted by the LED used in the front light when reading at night.

Comfortable Soft Touch Design and Additional Features

The new soft touch finishes on the NOOK GlowLight 3 offer a comfortable paper-like experience that’s easy to grip and hold for long periods of time, while page turning buttons featured on both sides of the device accommodate left- and right-handed customers. Readers will enjoy being able to jump from chapter to chapter with a few clicks or a fast flip. Customizing the screen display to fit any reading style is made easy by adjusting the font size. Whether large or small, the NOOK GlowLight 3 has the perfect-sized text, enabling readers to breeze through their favorite books.

Our Highest Resolution E-Ink Display

Reading in dim light, total darkness, or outdoors in the bright sun is more immersive than ever on the NOOK GlowLight 3. Crisp text, no full-page flashing while reading, a no-glare screen, and screen warmth control features make this NOOK the most comfortable eReader to date.

  • All-new Kindle app turns your phone or tablet into a book—read anytime, anywhere
  • An app built for book lovers—with everything you need all in one place, seamlessly move between the pages of your book, your library, your personal bookstore, and more
  • Be part of a community of readers—with Goodreads built into Kindle for iOS you can now discover and discuss books with friends, authors, and more

SEATTLE, 2017-Oct-27 — /EPR Retail News/ — (NASDAQ: AMZN) — Today, Amazon announced an all-new Kindle app that makes it easier than ever to turn your phone or tablet into a book—so you can read anytime, anywhere. The Kindle app is designed for book lovers and provides easy access to the most popular Kindle features—you can effortlessly move between the pages of your book, your library, your personalized bookstore and more. Also, with the Goodreads community built into Kindle for iOS, you can easily discover and discuss books with friends. The all-new Kindle app is available now in the App Store and Google Play, and will be delivered as part of a free, over-the-air update starting this week.

“We’ve built the new Kindle app from the ground up for book lovers, giving readers easy access to everything they might want to do with their books, all in one place,” said Chuck Moore, Vice President, Kindle. “It’s now easier than ever to turn your phone or tablet into a book and immerse yourself in an author’s world at any time.”

All-New Design

With the new Kindle app, it is easier to get to what you want. Whether it’s starting the next chapter in the book you’re reading or a quick search through your library, the all-new design makes switching back and forth seamless. Key updates include:

  • All-New Look—The Kindle app features a new look and feel inspired by books. Details include larger book covers, new fonts, a new app icon, and new light and dark background themes to choose from.
  • One-Tap Access—New bottom bar navigation automatically shows an icon of the book you’re currently reading, making it easier than ever to get back to reading at any moment. The bottom bar also provides quick access to Kindle’s most popular features allowing you to switch between the pages of your book, your library, your personal bookstore, and more.
  • Easy Search—The search bar is now always available throughout the app, so whether a book is in your library or among the millions of titles in the Kindle Store, it’s easier than ever to find it.

Discover and Discuss Books with Friends and the Goodreads Community on Kindle for iOS

The new Kindle for iOS app also helps customers discuss and get book recommendations from their friends, authors, and other readers with the Goodreads community now built right into the app. Goodreads, an Amazon subsidiary, is the world’s largest community of readers, with more than 65 million members.

“For as long as there have been books, people have discussed them with friends,” said Otis Chandler, CEO and co-founder of Goodreads. “When you finish an amazing book, you can’t wait to find out if other readers feel the same way. Readers trust their friends for recommendations, with around half of them saying they discover books through word-of-mouth. With the new features on Kindle, connecting with your friends and similar readers in the Goodreads community is now built into the app.”

Reading is better when you can discuss it with friends. In Kindle for iOS you can now:

  • Find New Books to Read—Browse the new Community tab to keep up-to-date with what friends and readers you follow are reading. When you find a book you are interested in, you can add it to your Want to Read list for quick reference when you are ready to start your next book.
  • Connect with Readers Who Like Similar Books—To help you get recommendations from readers who like the same books, Goodreads also suggests people to follow, including authors and popular Goodreads reviewers.
  • Share Your Thoughts About Books You’ve Read—Post notes and highlights from your book for friends to see and comment on. Easily share when you start reading a book, as well as your rating/review when you’ve finished a book.

Starting today, the Community tab featuring Goodreads discovery and discussion features are available on Kindle for iOS (in the US only), and will be coming to Kindle for Android in a future release. To learn more about how Kindle helps you read anytime, anywhere visit www.amazon.com/kindleapps.
