Gap launches limited-edition girls and boys apparel and accessories inspired by Sarah Jessica Parker’s childhood heirlooms

INSPIRED BY PARKER’S CHILDHOOD HEIRLOOMS, THE COLLECTION CELEBRATES LOVE, LUCK AND MAGIC

NEW YORK, 2018-Feb-23 — /EPR Retail News/ — Gap, the iconic American clothing brand, launches the Gap | Sarah Jessica Parker collection, a limited-edition assortment of girls and boys apparel and accessories. The collaboration was a natural fit as it reunites Gap and Parker, who starred in a series of Gap ads in the early aughts. Stemming from Parker’s family tradition of saying “rabbit, rabbit” on the first of every month for good luck, the collection celebrates love, luck and magic.

Inspired by Parker’s childhood heirlooms, the collection embraces prints and texture by playing with ginghams, stripes, florals and eyelet in classic Gap silhouettes. Available in toddler and kids sizing, Gap | Sarah Jessica Parker captures all the nostalgia of passing along well-loved, storied pieces to family and friends, the exuberance of starting your own story in those same pieces, and the joy inherent in wishing luck upon children as they move forward in the world. Parker also worked with Gap to help create two women’s dress styles that are available in the collection.

“Creating this collection with Gap has been such a treat as a mother, as one of eight children, and as a reconnection with the brand,” says Parker. “I hope the pieces are cherished by the children who wear them, that items are passed down among generations, and that some great memories are created while wearing them.”

Channeling Parker’s good luck tradition, there are embroidered rabbits found throughout the collection as well as special ‘property of:’ sewn-in tags to detail each wearer throughout the years which takes inspiration from her own family’s rituals. Gap | Sarah Jessica Parker collection favorites for girls include gingham dresses and separates with eyelet hems, a navy and white stripe flutter sleeve dress with pink roses, a signature rabbit embroidered light blue bomber jacket and a rabbit inspired basket weave mini handbag while boys and toddler boys can choose from graphic tees and gingham shirting with khakis. The collection will also include ‘Ebbit the backpack,’ an egg-inspired character and playful companion perfect for school, travel or towing along for a spring picnic.

“It’s been a delight to collaborate with Sarah Jessica Parker on this special collection for kids that combines her nostalgic childhood memories with signature Gap favorites,” says Wendi Goldman, Gap executive vice president and chief product officer. “We are so thrilled to have Sarah Jessica back with the Gap brand in this new collaboration capacity. Together we created a collection that we hope will be passed down from generation to generation, just as we envisioned.”

With prices starting from $16.95 up to $78, the collection will be available on March 1 through gap.com and GapKids stores in select countries including United States, Canada, United Kingdom, France, Italy, Greater China, Hong Kong and Japan.

JACK & JONES expands its denim and jeanswear with a junior collection

JACK & JONES expands its denim and jeanswear with a junior collection

BRANDE, Denmark, 2018-Feb-20 — /EPR Retail News/ — This autumn JACK & JONES expands its denim brotherhood with a junior collection. The junior collection is a line of styles in the well-known JACK & JONES design, scaled down to fit young guys aged 5 to 16. Building on its solid reputation for high quality and knowhow from 28 years in the menswear business, JACK & JONES now introduces a range of styles for the younger consumers. The first junior range will be available from autumn 2018.

FUTURE FASHION LEADERS

The junior collection is based on the existing, well-known JACK & JONES design – just scaled down in size. The expression therefore differs from the typical childlike look often offered for the younger audience.

Sales Director at JACK & JONES, Dennis Birk Jørgensen, explains; “These young consumers have evolved with digitalization into strong and independent opinion makers. They’re heavily influenced by social media and they’re discovering their own opinions on style at a rapid pace,” says Dennis and continues, “Never before has this group had more interest in clothing and as the influencers of the future, we want to be part of their world where they connect, share and shape future trends.”

By adding a junior collection, JACK & JONES closes the loop of size ranges, offering styles to the male consumer throughout his lifetime.

CRAFTSMANSHIP AND DEDICATION – IN SMALLER SIZES

Created with passion and craftsmanship, the youngest consumers will see a collection that echoes the coolest looks of the JACK & JONES adult styles. The junior collections will reflect the brand’s dedication to denim and jeanswear, offering styles from the three lifestyles; CORE, ORIGINALS and PREMIUM as well as JEANS INTELLIGENCE. “In JACK & JONES we are denim addicts and we put tons of energy and dedication into every collection and every pair of jeans. In our company, we set high standards for everything we do, and these values will naturally be reflected in each junior collection”, Dennis elaborates. The junior collections will focus on casual jeanswear with a quality, design and fitting that will appeal to the younger target group.

AVAILABILITY

The junior range will be offered six times a year, following the JACK & JONES collection flow. The first collection will be online at jackjones.com in August this year. In spring 2019, the junior collections will be available in top wholesale stores across Europe. The range will initially not be available in the JACK & JONES retail stores.

Under the program, kids 12 and younger receive a free banana, clementine or other seasonal fruit while shopping with a parent or guardian. The fruits are located in the produce aisle, and the program is overseen by the supermarket’s team of in-store dietitians.

“We are committed to providing healthier food choices for children while shopping in our stores,” says Natalie Menza-Crowe, Director of Health and Wellness at ShopRite. “We believe that teaching children to develop good eating habits at an early age is extremely important. Topaz announces new car raffle to raise funds for the Jack & Jill Children’s Foundation

Topaz announces new car raffle to raise funds for the Jack & Jill Children’s Foundation

New fundraising initiative launched as Topaz celebrates €250,000 raised to date for the children’s foundation

DUBLIN, IRELAND, 2018-Jan-30 — /EPR Retail News/ — Topaz (Circle K Ireland), Ireland’s largest fuel and convenience retailer, has announced the details of a new car raffle that will see much-needed funds raised for its charity partner, the Jack & Jill Children’s Foundation. Over a two-month period, customers can pledge their support by purchasing raffle tickets for €5 each and, in turn, will be in with a chance of winning the award winning all-new SEAT Ateca SUV, worth approximately €30,000. All proceeds raised via the raffle will go directly to The Jack & Jill Children’s Foundation.

Tickets for the car raffle will be available to purchase from sites across the Topaz network and at all 23 SEAT dealerships nationwide from Thursday, 1st February. The initiative aims to fund the provision of thousands of home nursing hours much needed by Jack & Jill children and families. The winner of the raffle will be announced at the end of March and customers are encouraged to keep an eye on the Topaz Energy Facebook pages as well as @topazenergy on Twitter for full details.
€250,000 Milestone

The launch of this initiative coincides with Topaz announcing that it has raised €250,000 to date for the Jack & Jill Children’s Foundation, through various fundraising initiatives by Topaz staff and customers, including Small Change for Big Change, TheLEGO® Exchange and Raise a Teacup, along with multiple fundraising events held internally for staff. These campaigns have resulted in the provision of over 15,000 hours of home care nursing to date for the Jack & Jill Children’s Foundation.
The partnership, launched in 2015, will see Topaz raise €400,000 in vital funds for the children’s foundation, and the winter car raffle will really help to accelerate efforts to reach the target.

The Jack & Jill Children’s Foundation, which was founded in 1997, provides direct funding to families of children up to the age of five suffering from severe intellectual and physical developmental delay from brain damage, enabling them to purchase home nursing and respite care. The Jack & Jill model of care puts the family at the centre of the help it gives, and a bespoke package is developed around them.

Judy Glover, Market Director, Topaz (Circle K Ireland) said: “I am delighted to be at Topaz City Avenue today to mark this significant announcement. Not only is this car raffle one of our biggest fundraising drives for the Jack & Jill partnership to date, but we are also celebrating the news that €250,000 has been raised to date across the network in support of this vital charity. Thanks to Topaz staff and customers for their continued support – the funds that have been raised will enable the Jack & Jill Children’s Foundation to continue providing invaluable services to families nationwide.

Tesco supports the first Public Health England Change4Life campaign to promote healthier snacking for children

Tesco supports the first Public Health England Change4Life campaign to promote healthier snacking for children

Welwyn Garden City, UK, 2018-Jan-02 — /EPR Retail News/ — As part of a wider approach to help colleagues and customers on health, Tesco has today stepped up plans to help make healthier choices a little easier for shoppers by backing the first Public Health England Change4Life campaign to promote healthier snacking for children.

Building on the success of Tesco’s 2017 ‘Little Helps to Healthier Living’ campaign which saw the biggest monthly increase in the healthiness of their customers’ baskets, the new initiative will help parents, shopping in-store and online, choose affordable healthier snacks that are 100 calories or less.

The campaign, which runs for the month of January, will appear in all Tesco stores and online at Tesco.com. It includes in-store point of sale promotional materials of healthier kids’ snacks featuring Change4Life branding. The snacks – which include Pink Lady Apple Snack Packs, Goodness Strawberry Cereal bars and Tesco Pineapple Pieces in Juice 120g – will be available at everyday low prices.

Online, Tesco will use innovative technology in partnership with SpoonGuru to allow customers to quickly and simply find 130 healthier snacks containing 100 calories or less.

Support for the Change4Life healthier snacking campaign is part of Tesco’s integrated approach to help colleagues and customers at a time of the year when healthier eating is front of mind. Other key initiatives include:

  • Helpful ‘little swaps’ – at the front of all large stores a helpful basket comparison will highlight ten ‘little swaps’ that are lower in sat fat, salt and sugar. Taken together the ten little swaps will be 18% lower in price than the less healthy alternative basket. Additionally, 60 healthier alternatives will be highlighted under a ‘Helpful Little Swaps’ banner in-store and online.
  • Weekly Little Helps – each week in January Tesco will offer lower prices on fresh fruit and vegetables in store and online, including apples, avocados and salad tomatoes.
  • Food Love Stories advertising – Tesco will promote the recipe for ‘Nana’s Magic Soup’, offering 2 of your 5 a day per portion, on TV and offer 25% off all ingredients – alongside other Food Love Stories spanning all meal occasions, offering inspiration on healthier cooking.
  • Free Fruit for Kids – increased communication of Tesco’s pioneering Free Fruit for Kids scheme in stores which has seen kids enjoy over 32 million pieces of fruit since launch in 2017.

Matt Davies CEO for UK and ROI said:

“We know that our customers want us to help them eat more healthily and it can be particularly difficult to encourage children to eat healthy snacks. By promoting a wide range of snacks, aligned with Public Health England’s campaign, we hope to make it easier for families to make a healthier start to the year. This is part of a wider programme to help our colleagues and customers stay healthy.”

Duncan Selbie, Chief Executive of Public Health England, said:

“Half of the sugar children eat and drink is coming from unhealthy snacks and sugary drinks. The Change4Life campaign is our way of giving parents a helping hand to make healthier choices for their children. We highly value Tesco’s support for Change4Life and its wider efforts to make it simpler to eat healthily.”

Further action Tesco has taken on health to help customers make healthier food choices every time they shop includes:

  • In 2014 Tesco announced it would remove sweets and chocolates from its checkouts across all store formats, including smaller convenience stores.
  • In 2015 Tesco announced that all the children’s lunchbox-sized soft drinks it sells would have no added sugar in them.
  • In 2016, Tesco introduced Free Fruit for Kids in over 800 Tesco stores across the UK. This is aimed at promoting healthy eating habits among kids that will stay with them as they grow up, and to make it easier for children to get the fruit they need.
  • For three years, Tesco has worked in partnership with Diabetes UK and the British Heart Foundation, raising £24m.
  • Tesco has also partnered with Cancer Research UK’s Race for Life since 2002 raising over £40m.
  • Tesco has also increased the number of healthier options at Tesco Cafés, making it easier for customers to have an affordable, healthier meal while shopping in store.
  • In May 2017, Tesco delivered integrated colleague and customer health events in all UK stores, with little helps to make it easy for consumers to choose healthier food, many of which have become permanent:
    • Permanent price reduction on over 200 healthier lines, including fresh fruit and vegetables.
    • Free Fruit for Kids offer always available in larger stores.
    • Increasing the number of promotions and the promotional space for healthier lines.
    • Making the healthier version of brands cheaper than less healthy option.
    • Front of store basket comparisons showing customers that swapping to healthier choices is cheaper as well as healthier.
    • Tesco’s food brand campaign, Food Love Stories featuring healthy, affordable recipes with prominence of ingredients in store.
    • In store fundraising for charities raising over £1m.
  • The event marked the biggest change seen in the healthiness of customers’ baskets in response to a campaign – Tesco saw customers choose more items lower in calories, fat, salt and sugar as a result.

Further details of Tesco’s health strategy can be found here: tescoplc.com/little-helps-plan/products-health/

Notes to editors

  • Tesco’s Healthy Little Differences Tracker reports the nutrient profiling score (as defined by the Food Standards Agency) of the products it sells, and through this Tesco has been able to measure the impact of interventions on shopping behaviours. During the period of the 2017 ‘Little Helps to Healthier Living’ event, it saw a significant improvement in the score of the average shopping basket at Tesco: the biggest increase it has seen outside of seasonal changes.
  • In partnership with SpoonGuru, Tesco is helping customers quickly and easily search for healthy, dietary and lifestyle options through 13 new online filters, including low fat, gluten free and lactose free.
  • The Public Health England Change4Life campaign will run from Tuesday 2 January 2018 across England for 8 weeks and will be supported with an exciting new TV and radio advert, out of home and digital advertising, social media, partnerships and nationwide roadshows. nhs.uk/change4life

Carrefour launches The Boucles du Cœur 2018 edition; continues its support to children in need

Carrefour launches The Boucles du Cœur 2018 edition; continues its support to children in need

Boulogne-Billancourt, France, 2017-Dec-28 — /EPR Retail News/ — The Boucles du Cœur – the event created by Carrefour – has just launched a call for charity projects to decide which association is to be the beneficiary, at national level, of the donations given during the 2018 edition. The general public will vote for the best project on the Internet.

The Boucles du Cœur
In 2011, Carrefour created the Boucles du Cœur, a charity event held in the group’s stores for one month every year. The Boucles du Cœur is a means to collect donations and so finance research projects or initiatives designed to help children in difficulty. Every year, one particular national charity and more than 300 local organisations benefit from the generosity of Carrefour’s customers and the commitment of its employees. In 2017, €2.6 million were donated, €375,000 of which went to the Grégory Lemarchal association. Since they were set up, the Boucles du Cœur has raised €8 million.

The call for projects
New for 2018: the charity supported at national level will be chosen by people over the Internet. They will get to vote for one of the 12 finalist charities short-listed by a Carrefour panel. Applicants spearheading a project to help children in difficulty in France should submit their application online by 6 January 2018 at http://www.carrefour.fr/engagements/boucles-du-coeur/inscription

People will then have from 22 January until 18 February to vote on www.carrefour.fr. The winning beneficiary charity will then be revealed on 1 March. The 11 other charities will each get an award of €1000.

Eligibility criteria: The project must have something to do with supporting children and must be originated by a general-interest, non-profit making organisation, or one that is recognised as being in the public interest. It should relate to the day-to-day lives and environments of ill children, preventive healthcare, nutrition, education or protecting children in France. It must be delivered by the charity within 2 years of the 2018 Boucles du Cœur, and it must be possible to identify its impact.

Spotlight on seven years of initiatives to help children in need
The 7 previous editions have supported projects managed by the Laurette Fugain association (in 2016), the Etoile de Martin (in 2015), SOS Children’s Village, ELA (the European Leukodystrophy Association), the Mécénat Chirurgie Cardiaque (set up to enable children with heart malformations to undergo surgery in France) and the Fêtes le Mur (which fosters community involvement among disadvantaged children). Thanks to the Boucles du Cœur, the Laurette Fugain association, for example, has been able to get its “LEA” project off the ground – a large-scale study designed to further our understanding of post-illness recovery. The Etoile de Martin was able to fund a research project into rare tumours in children. The Mécénat Chirurgie Cardiaque association brought 30 children suffering from heart malformations to France so they could be operated on – children who could not receive treatment in their home countries. The Grégory Lemarchal association is funding a wide research programme into infections, and is increasing life expectancy for cystic fibrosis sufferers.

Funding Will Support Feeding America® and Nearly 200 Other Organizations Across the Country

CANTON, Mass., 2017-Dec-22 — /EPR Retail News/ — With the holidays upon us, the Joy in Childhood Foundation SM is making a special gift to help address critical child health and hunger needs. The Joy in Childhood Foundation, the charitable foundation supported by Dunkin’ Donuts and Baskin-Robbins, today (December 20, 2017)  announced a new $2.7 million commitment to help bring joy to sick and hungry children. As part of this commitment, a $1 million grant will be awarded to Feeding America®, the largest domestic hunger-relief organization, and $1.7 million in grants from local Joy in Childhood Foundation Chapters will be distributed to nearly 200 non-profit organizations in local communities, including Boston, Chicago, Miami, Philadelphia and New York, that address children’s health and hunger issues.

In 2017 alone, including this most recent grant, the Joy in Childhood Foundation has awarded over $5 million in grants to help bring joy to sick and hungry kids nationwide.

“The Joy in Childhood Foundation brings joy to kids year-round, but to have an opportunity to bring joy to kids facing hunger and health issues during the holiday season is very special to us,” said Karen Raskopf, Co-Chair, Joy in Childhood Foundation. “We know that this time of year can be difficult for children and their families and it’s also an especially busy time for the food banks and health organizations they rely on. Our new commitment will help ensure that children in our local communities who are facing hunger and health issues can experience the joy of the holidays – just like any other child – without having adult-like worries, such as where their next meal will come from.”

The $2.7 million in funding reinforces the Joy in Childhood Foundation’s commitment to bringing joy to sick and hungry kids nationwide. Earlier this year, the Joy in Childhood Foundation announced a three-year, $3 million commitment to Feeding America and Starlight Children’s Foundation®.

“We are very grateful for the generous support we have received from the Joy in Childhood Foundation and are proud of the impact we’ve been able to make in the lives of children facing hunger,” said Nancy Curby, Senior Vice President of Corporate Partnerships and Operations, Feeding America. “The holiday season is a critical time for our network of food banks.  The support we are receiving will help us provide programs that will bring joy to millions of children nationwide who face hunger and will help keep them healthy so they can reach their full potential.”

In the 2016 – 2017 school year, the Foundation helped provide more than 2.4 million pounds of food – the equivalent of more than 1.4 million meals – to children and families struggling with hunger in communities nationwide through grants made to the Feeding America network of member food banks. Feeding America and the Joy in Childhood Foundation have partnered together for over a decade to help fight hunger.

The toy drive aims to send 10,000 toys to children throughout the island and begins today online at Toysrus.com/Toys4PuertoRico, with donations accepted until Tuesday, January 2.

Supporters can visit Toysrus.com/Toys4PuertoRico to give a gift of $5, $10, and $20 which will be used to purchase from a suggested list of toys featured on the website. Hispanic Federation and partner organization R.Evolución Latina will handle the distribution of the purchased items, and ensure that dozens of community partners receive gifts for a mix of ages.

On Three Kings Day (Saturday, January 6, 2018), the donated toys will be distributed to towns throughout the island at local celebrations. Three Kings Day is one of the most important holidays for Puerto Ricans and Latin Americans across the world. Families celebrate through generous gift-giving to honor the gifts given by the Three Wise Men to Jesus Christ.

As the official media partner, under the banner of its corporate social responsibility initiative, “El Poder En Ti” (The Power in You), Telemundo will make a donation of $30,000 to the toy drive. The network will also air national and local promos encouraging viewers to donate, in-show segments across network shows including “Un Nuevo Día,” “Al Rojo Vivo” and “Noticias Telemundo,” daily digital and social amplification, and participation in numerous community events to support the drive. In addition, Telemundo talent will participate in the local celebrations to help distribute toys.

“One of the greatest and most indescribable pleasures I remembered as a kid was receiving a gift during Three Kings Day, a celebration we all keep in my family” said Lin-Manuel Miranda, creator of the award-winning musical Hamilton. “This holiday season in Puerto Rico, so many kids could go without gifts for Three Kings Day and that is truly heartbreaking. If there is anything the last three months have taught us, is that the spirit of generosity and unselfish humanity is alive and well in our country. All you have to do is visit the Toys“R”Us website and make a gift. Our partners at Toys“R”Us, Telemundo, Hispanic Federation, and R.Evolución Latina will take care of the rest. The more gifts you buy, the more families we can reach. Together, we can bring some holiday cheer to thousands of children in Puerto Rico on January 6.”

“We’re honored to partner with Lin-Manuel Miranda, Hispanic Federation and Telemundo to bring joy and toys to children in some of the hardest hit areas of Puerto Rico for this Three Kings Day,” said Dave Brandon, Chairman and Chief Executive Officer, Toys“R”Us, Inc. “The holiday season can be incredibly difficult for those struggling to regain normalcy after a disaster, and we wanted to help give kids on the island an opportunity to do what they do best – be kids. Thanks to Lin-Manuel and the generosity of our customers across the country, we hope January 6 will bring smiles and playtime where it’s needed most.”

“Restoring a sense of normalcy is key to any long-term recovery, and the holidays are the perfect opportunity to do that,” said José Calderón, President of Hispanic Federation. “Thanks to the tireless support of Lin-Manuel Miranda, the Hispanic Federation and its partners have been able to raise tens of millions of dollars for the relief and recovery efforts in Puerto Rico. Now, with the holidays fast approaching, we are grateful to Toys“R”Us and Telemundo as they help to transform what could all too easily be a time of renewed uncertainty and fear into a cause for celebration and hope. If we can send 10,000 toys to Puerto Rico this year, we can reach kids in every part of the island, particularly those areas that were hardest hit and in most need of basic goods and services.”

“NBCUniversal Telemundo Enterprises is committed to partnering with the Puerto Rican community to help them during the devastation caused by Hurricane Maria and beyond,” said Monica Gil, Executive Vice President of Corporate Affairs, NBCUniversal Telemundo Enterprises. “Under our corporate social responsibility initiative, ‘El Poder En Ti,’ our goal is to empower our viewers when they are in need and let them know that they are not alone. This collaborative effort is a small way in which we can share our support and commend the families and children of Puerto Rico during this holiday season.”

Since September 20, when Hurricane Maria slammed into Puerto Rico and devastated the island, Hispanic Federation and Lin-Manuel Miranda and his family have worked together to raise money and awareness for the 3.5 million American citizens whose lives were upended and changed forever. The outpouring of support from the rest of the country and around the world has been incredible, and has enabled Hispanic Federation and its partners on the ground to provide millions of pounds of food, clean water, and basic medical care to some of the hardest hit and hardest to reach places on the island.

H&M Foundation and UNICEF launch new initiative to make early childhood development programmes more accessible to children with disabilities

H&M Foundation and UNICEF launch new initiative to make early childhood development programmes more accessible to children with disabilities

H&M Foundation and UNICEF have launched a new partnership to support young children, in particular those with disabilities. The initiative is worth SEK 30 million (USD 3.7 million) and one aim is to reach more than 9,000 young children with disabilities and their family members with specialized early childhood development services over the next three years.

STOCKHOLM, Sweden, 2017-Nov-29 — /EPR Retail News/ — During the earliest years of life, love, good nutrition, protection, and stimulating activities such as play, singing and early learning give young children the best possible chance of reaching healthy brain development. Yet, millions of young children around the world, in particular those with disabilities, are deprived of these critical experiences and are growing up in unsafe and unstimulating environments.

“When the brains and bodies of young children are protected from violence and pollution, stimulated through love, play and early learning activities, and nurtured with responsive caregiving and nutritious food, they have the best possible chance of developing fully, learning effectively, and contributing to their economies and societies when they reach adulthood,” says Pia Britto, UNICEF Chief of Early Childhood Development.

The initiative aims to scale up existing UNICEF early childhood development programmes in Bulgaria, Peru and Uganda to make them more accessible and tailored to the needs of children with disabilities and their families. Around 20,000 family members and caregivers will be reached with support to help them provide young children with the good nutrition, stimulation and protection they need through health, education and social services.

“Through our new partnership with UNICEF, we hope to transform the lives and futures of thousands of young children with disabilities. We hope this initiative inspires the private sector to invest in children’s early years – helping them reach their full health, happiness, wellbeing and learning ability, says Diana Amini, Global Manager at H&M Foundation.

The support provided to UNICEF’s early childhood development programmes through the partnership will help better assess babies and young children for disabilities and developmental delays, improving their chance of receiving specialised early childhood development care at the earliest opportunity. Creating a more inclusive support system aims to reduce discrimination that young children with disabilities may face.

“UNICEF is grateful to H&M Foundation for its commitment to helping provide life-changing support to young children, in particular those with disabilities.”

Pia Britto, UNICEF

Giving young children with disabilities the best chance of reaching their optimal development also helps considerably reduce the costs of special education, unemployment and institutionalization.

This initiative is the newest in a longstanding partnership between H&M Foundation and UNICEF, who have collaborated since 2014 to provide quality education and early learning opportunities for the most vulnerable children.

Melbourne, Australia, 2017-Nov-27 — /EPR Retail News/ — With the Australian Retailers Association (ARA) and Roy Morgan Research predicting Australians to spend more than $50 billion over the Christmas trading period from November 15 to December 24, 2017, the ARA believe toy retailers will be as busy as elves this Christmas.

With the ARA and Roy Morgan Research tipping Australian consumers to spend 2.8% more on Christmas compared to last year, ARA Executive Director, Russell Zimmerman said it’s a busy time for toy retailers across the country.

“Keeping up with hottest-selling toys for kids at Christmas is like keeping up with digital technology in the retail landscape… both retailers and consumers need to be prepared,” Mr Zimmerman said.

“With many new toys hitting the shelves this year, parents need to start their shopping early to ensure they can get the toy at the top of their children’s wish list.”

“Likewise retailers need to be prepared for the onslaught of parents trying to secure the perfect gift for their children.”

With the ARA and Roy Morgan Research predicting Aussies to increase their spending in the ‘Other retailing’ category by 3.96%, the ARA have worked with Toys“R”Us to identify the Top 20 Toys for kids this Christmas.

“It appears Hatchimals continue to outperform retailer’s expectations as they completely sold out last year, so we urge retailers to be prepared for a similar toy rush this pre-Christmas period,” Mr Zimmerman said.

New to the toy scene, LEGO Boost Creative Toolbox is one of the most sought-after interactive toys in the tech space this year. This innovative creation targeted for boys aged 7+, enhances the building and learning experience for boys by not only building the robot but also coding its behaviour.

“Gone are the days when we used to fly model planes, it seems LEGO Boost is now a must have for tech savvy youngsters this Christmas,” Mr Zimmerman said.

“Just like retail, Christmas is all about the consumer experience, and for girls aged 3+ this year’s highly sought-after toys include LOL Dolls and Pikmi Pops as they provide the ultimate unwrapping experience this silly season.”

With many Australian children on Santa’s nice list this year, the ARA expect both retailers and Santa’s elves to be extremely busy over the next few weeks.

SPAR India supports local farming community school in Soppahalli village, near Bangalore

India, 2017-Nov-27 — /EPR Retail News/ — Community involvement is a key aspect of SPAR’s vision and in India, SPAR has been taking steps to positively impact the lives of employees, customers and other members of the communities it serves. Recently, this led to an opportunity to support a local farming community school in Soppahalli village, near Bangalore.

SPAR India sources most of its fresh fruits & vegetables from the farmers of Soppahalli village, so when the team learnt that the village’s only school was in need of support, they decided to step in.

The school was closed for about six years and was reopened in 2017. At present, there are 16 students and only one teacher and like many schools in rural India, it lacks basic infrastructure.

A team of 20 SPAR India colleagues visited Soppahalli in October – interacting with the villagers and spending time with the school children. The team distributed notebooks and stationery among the students and also donated desks and benches to promote a better educational environment.

During the visit, the mood in the village was upbeat and the students were excited with the new additions to their school: “I like my new notebook and pencils,” said one student, while another added that not having to sit on the ground was a relief.

This was the first of many activities that SPAR India has planned for Soppahalli’s primary school and the village as a whole. The response has been overwhelming and has encouraged SPAR India to carry on adding value to the communities in which it operates with greater enthusiasm.
