Experian QAS has announced that it is working with Charles Tyrwhitt, the fine menswear retailer. The deal supports the retailer’s increasingly multichannel approach, helping to ensure customer contact details are accurate and validated for Charles Tyrwhitt’s offices in the UK, US and Germany.

Charles Tyrwhitt has implemented a range of products from Experian QAS to help improve its contact data management strategy and meet growth targets that forecast sales of £55 million in 2010. The company’s menswear range, which includes formal shirts, suits and ties, is currently sold through a combination of 12 European retail outlets, a call centre and a dedicated website.

At the front-end, QAS software, including an address finder and postcode finder, is used to add accurate data to its database for order fulfillment and future marketing communications. In the UK, it is also used to cross-reference customer addresses against the edited Electoral Roll to verify that a person claiming to live at a given address actually lives there.

Taking its contact data accuracy principles online, Charles Tyrwhitt will also use the application to help customers to enter their address details quickly and accurately when placing an order via the website. This will improve customer service and ensure information and products are dispatched to the correct address.

The software will be used to clean and maintain address data that is entered onto its system via Amazon, which also sells Charles Tyrwhitt’s goods online. This helps to ensure that data captured by third parties is kept uniform with in-house processes, improving the targeting of future mailings received by customers.

Debenhams Provides World Cup Solace

Debenhams has organised its own World Cup Crèches in selected stores around the UK so that women can shop in peace and the men can watch their beloved team without being moaned at.

This means that customers at Debenhams can watch the England games on screens in dedicated areas which are being called ‘crèches’. The stores that are open during the games will show England vs. Algeria on the 18th of June and England vs. Slovenia on the 23rd of June. This can be up to 8pm in the evening for late night shoppers.

Shopping search engine, Kelkoo, conducted the research and revealed that with product imitations in South Africa rampant, around 1 in 5 products are likely to be forgeries, costing official, legitimate businesses around £50m.

The most popular and widespread fakes are believed to be of replica kits, particularly of England and Brazil.

The news comes as the UK Border Agency announced its most-recent seizure of counterfeits were of a thousand replica England shirts – primed for the lucrative World Cup market.

Matt Spencer, founder of UK-based personal finance blog Moneystand.co.uk, has explained the situation: “With the World Cup looming it is enormous opportunity for retailers and sporting goods manufacturers to amplify the sales of the official merchandise. The worry is that fakes are becoming increasingly difficult to spot and in some cases, the price may be identical to that of genuine products.

“Those who knowingly purchase counterfeited items for the reason that they are cheaper are likely to find the situation a false economy. Product quality and durability are more often than not compromised. In many situations people are paying full price for these short- term items.”

The practice of buying fake goods is not a victimless crime either, as Spencer continues; “Theres a very strong chance, almost a certainty, imitated items have not been through the same vigorous safety tests that genuine items face. Potentially, these un-tested products could be lethal.”
