ePRICE’s Black Friday sales a major hit with Italians

Milan, 2017-Dec-01 — /EPR Retail News/ — Mind-boggling numbers for ePRICE’s Black Friday! The four days of discounts initiative organised by the e-commerce site from 24 to 27 November was a major hit with Italians, increasingly enthusiastic about online shopping.

Indeed, shopaholics did not pass up the opportunity to put large and small appliances into their carts, along with IT items, cell phones, video games and so on, taking advantage of discounts of up to 70%. The item with the absolute highest demand – given the upcoming cold season – was the electric bed warmer, followed by the PlayStation 4 game Gran Turismo Sport. Third and fourth place were respectively occupied by the Smart Tech LED HD Ready 32” TV and the Hotpoint washer-dryer, while the most costly item placed in the carts of Italians was the Samsung QLED Ultra HD 65” TV, worth over Euro 4,000.

“Black Friday 2017 for ePRICE – the seventh since we were the first to introduce it in Italy – lasted four days, until Cyber Monday, and was once again a huge success, with record traffic and visits, more than doubled compared to 2016. This year, we prepared Black Friday in advance – says Raul Stella, ePRICE and Marketplace VP – with an online, TV and radio campaign linked to the Black Hour initiatives. Our clients quickly took advantage of the many Black Friday deals, anticipating part of their Christmas shopping and leading to record orders compared to last year. In particular, the marketplace was up 147% YoY in terms of order value, backed by strong growth in terms of number of sellers on our site. This result confirms our strategy, which involves consolidation of our leadership in the ”core” categories (major domestic appliances, air conditioners and TVs), where the online market is showing double-digit growth, accompanied by strong development of the Marketplace for the mass market electronics categories”.

During the four days of the promotion, there were over 3 million user visits on the ePRICE site (+117%
compared to 2016), while on actual Black Friday alone, there were some 1.6 million (+150% compared to 2016), with peaks between 7 and 11 in the morning, and then in the evening at around 19:00. Of those seeking deals on ePRICE, 70% connected from mobile devices, with 36% using the official app of the e-commerce site. Lastly, the value of orders in the four day was up 39% YoY, or +147% for the marketplace. When looking at the Black Week alone, the numbers are even more impressive, thanks to the success of the Black Hour, which brought an increase of 264% YoY in visits and of 44% YoY in terms of order value. The cities that recorded the highest number of purchases were Milan, Rome, Turin, Naples and Brescia, and the most active buyers were men between 25 and 54 years of age.

Cdiscount becomes France’s leading Black Friday e-tailer after reporting €43 million in business volumes

Bordeaux, France, 2017-Nov-29 — /EPR Retail News/ — Black Friday has become a major event in the e-commerce industry, and Cdiscount ranks as France’s leading Black Friday e-tailer after reporting €43 million in business volumes, or five times the amount recorded on a typical day. A total of 8 million people – i.e., one in three households – visited the Cdiscount website last Friday.

This year’s sales event confirmed that Black Friday is the kick-off point for the Christmas shopping season, with toys and games comprising the bulk of items sold. Nearly 10,000 PS4 consoles and 200,000 toys/video games were purchased during the day, including hoverboards, which this year once again proved to be a stand-out item: 1,500 were sold within a few minutes after the stroke of midnight.

Willenhall, United Kingdom, 2017-Nov-29 — /EPR Retail News/ — Poundland today (24 November 2017) confirmed its highly anticipated “Twin Peaks’ £1 chocolate bar will go on sale across the UK for the first time at 8.00 am on Monday 4 December.

The 180g bar that sent Britain barmy when it was first unveiled in June, had its launch unexpectedly delayed – but Poundland will finally launch Twin Peaks in brand new packaging in its 850 UK stores next month.

Customers will then be able to choose a bar for £1 that has 20 per cent more chocolate than Poundland’s best-selling Toblerone.

Created in Birmingham, the home of British chocolate, by specialist Walkers Chocolates, the Poundland original chocolate bar has a distinctive British flavour compared to Toblerone’s Swiss chocolate nougat.

Inspired by Shropshire’s Wrekin and Ercall hills, Twin Peaks will offer a taste sensation, receiving rave reviews in secret blind taste tests* with two in three customers preferring it to Toblerone.

Kraft (also the owners of Cadburys) complained about the shape of Twin Peaks.  In recent years Kraft has fought hard to keep Nestle from registering the KitKat shape, but this summer it argued that it had similar rights in the Toblerone shape. Poundland disagreed with this.

Following positive discussions, the first 500,000 bars, which will be on sale for £1 throughout December in their original shape, are set to be a collectors’ item. After this Poundland will revise the shape so it better represents the outline of the Wrekin and Ercall hills – the inspiration behind Twin Peaks as a British alternative to Toblerone and offering 30g more chocolate.

“In the last 12 months we believe our customers alone have missed out on 250 tonnes of chocolate after the size of their favourite item was chopped,” said Poundland trading controller Chris Burns.

“That’s why we began development on Twin Peaks in the first place”.

Debenhams research reveals the amount of preparation and planning shoppers make when it comes to Black Friday sales

London, 2017-Nov-28 — /EPR Retail News/ — New research from leading British retailer, Debenhams, reveals the amount of preparation and planning shoppers put into making sure they get the item they want on Black Friday.

The survey, which saw 2,000 shoppers across the UK questioned on their plans, found that more than a third (34%) of shoppers plan to book the day off work or have already got the day off in order to tackle the Black Friday sales. Nearly half (44%) of men have, or are planning to, book the day off work compared to just a quarter (24%) of women.

When it comes to planning for the ‘big weekend’, one in ten (12%) admitted they started thinking about what they wanted to buy 4-7 days before. One in 20 (6%) take it a step further compiling their wish lists a month to six weeks in advance.

Women are more likely to create a plan of action for the sales – 8% of the women spoken to in the study said that they started to pull together a wish list one to three months before the sales. Men on the other hand prefer to wait until closer to the time – a fifth (21%) left it 1-5 days before, while 4% made a snap decision on the morning.

Around the country, Londoners plan the furthest ahead – they start thinking about what they want up to three months in advance (3%). In contrast, Yorkshire and Humber residents wait until the morning of the sales (9%) to snap up a bargain.

It seems that the early bird really does catch the worm when it comes to Black Friday – more than one in ten (14%) are planning to wake up at 6am to face the sales. A further 7% admit that they will be setting their alarm for 5am while 6% will be staying awake until midnight in order to bag a bargain. Shoppers in Sheffield and Southampton will be first up; they are planning to rise at 2.42am to scour the sales.

The majority of shoppers (23%) have given themselves a budget of £151-£250 during the Black Friday sales. Southampton shoppers have the biggest pot (£351-£400) followed by those in Leeds (£251-£300). More than a tenth (13%) are spending more than last year, while 74% have budgeted the same amount. Men are more likely to have increased their funds (15%) while women have reduced theirs (13%).

The main beneficiaries of the bargains are the people buying them (51%), followed by partners (39%) and children (34%). Men are most likely to shop for themselves (53%) compared to women (50%).

B&M opens new store in Skelton, North Yorkshire, England

LIVERPOOL, UK, 2017-Nov-23 — /EPR Retail News/ — There was plenty of excitement in Skelton today as B&M opened up another store in the North Yorkshire region, radically increasing its number of employees.

The addition to B&M’s portfolio in the region comes as a huge boost to the local economy, creating 50 jobs for people from the area, taking their total to over 100 in North Yorkshire.

Visitors to the store, located on Pheasant Field Lane, will be able to browse a wide range of branded and own label goods, including toys, groceries, health & beauty and pet ranges.

As part of the opening celebrations, B&M employees invited local charity, Tees Valley Wildlife Trust, to be their VIP for the day. Local Mayor, Cllr Karen King, was also in attendance.

The charity sets out to protect, manage and enhance the natural environment of Tees Valley. They also promote their programme of education and training, which includes education work with pupils in classroom activities in creating wildlife and growing areas in school grounds, and in supporting school visits to nature reserves and their Margrove Heritage Centre.

The foundation were handed £250 worth of vouchers to spend in-store as a thank you for their hard work in the community.

The store manager, Andrew Kidby, said: “The team from Tees Valley Wildlife Trust really stood out for us as they go the extra mile for local community. We wanted to give them some VIP treatment as a thank you for all the hard work they do.

“We hope that our donation can help them to continue the great work they do.”

He also commented: The new team have been working really hard to get the store ready for opening day and we can’t wait to get the doors open and show customers their new B&M Skelton.”

CVS Pharmacy unveils incentives, rewards and hot deals this Thanksgiving weekend

CVS Pharmacy shoppers will see even more incentives and rewards for in-store and online purchases including a new five-week long gift card promotion, hot deals and special offers throughout Black Friday, Cyber Monday and beyond.

New this year, ExtraCare members will receive $10 in a “CVS Cash Card” after spending $30 on specially marked seasonal merchandise and everyday essentials noted in weekly circular ads and in stores. The cash card can be spent on nearly all non-prescription items in store with no expiration. The promotion runs November 5th through December 9th.*

Poundland partners with three national children’s charities, to change the lives of over 20,000 children and their families by 2020

The Charity Ambassadors also revealed that thanks to Poundland’s fundraising, Make-A-Wish will be able to grant the One True Wish of more than 250 seriously poorly children, Whizz Kidz will be able to provide over 4,000 opportunities for young wheelchair users to achieve their potential and over 17,000 women at high risk of having miscarriage, stillbirth and premature birth will be able to access expert care and support at Tommy’s clinics.

B&M opens its second store in Ashford, Kent

Liverpool, United Kingdom, 2017-Nov-20 — /EPR Retail News/ — B&M continued its expansion today (17 November 2017) as Ashford in Kent welcomed its second store to the region.

The addition to B&M’s portfolio in the region comes as a huge boost to the local economy, creating 40 jobs for people from the area.

With building work completed, it means that the new store has opened in time for Black Friday, giving customers the perfect chance to pick up some bargains.

Visitors to the store, located in Park Mall Shopping Centre, will be able to browse a wide range of branded and own label goods, including toys, groceries, health & beauty and pet ranges.

As part of the opening celebrations, B&M employees invited local charity, Porchlight, to be their VIP for the day, while local Mayor, Cllr Winston Michael, was also in attendance.

The team help vulnerable and isolated people across Kent and the south east get support with their mental health, housing, education and employment. They provide children, young people and adults with the advice, guidance and skills they need to live independently in the future and fulfil their potential.

The foundation were handed £250 worth of vouchers to spend in-store as a thank you for their hard work in the community.

The store manager, Nadine Snelling, said: “The team from Porchlight really stood out for us as they go the extra mile for local community. We wanted to give them some VIP treatment as a thank you for all the hard work they do.

“We hope that our donation can help them to continue the great work they do.”

She also commented: “The new team have been working really hard to get the store ready for opening day and we can’t wait to get the doors open and show customers their new B&M Ashford.”

Giant Tiger continues its successful “Inner Voice” themed advertising campaigns

Real Holiday Moments Representing Real Canadian Families

OTTAWA, 2017-Nov-15 — /EPR Retail News/ — Giant Tiger Stores Limited is excited to debut their second year of holiday commercials celebrating what truly matters; life’s precious family moments. These commercials are a continuation of the successful “Inner Voice” themed advertising campaigns.

“Each of our 2017 holiday commercials features a different mom in a heartfelt and relatable scenario,” explains Karen Sterling, Vice President of Marketing, Giant Tiger Stores Limited. “Whether mom is worrying about a child away at college, or getting ready to tell her partner they are expecting, or relieved to see her partner home safely, these scenarios speak directly to mom and her core values. Regardless of where you live, or your circumstances these moments resonate. They are a reminder that while thoughtful gift-giving is most certainly a part of the holiday season, the truly important and memorable moments have family at the centre.”

The first two commercials end with a gift-giving carousel that will change weekly. Throughout the season, they reflect an up-to-date assortment of this season’s go-to gifts available in Giant Tiger stores.  “Giant Tiger is known to be a destination for on-trend and on-budget gifts for everyone on your list and the gift-giving carousel is a way for us to highlight some of the thousands of low price gifting solutions found in store and online,” adds Sterling.

The third commercial speaks to Giant Tiger’s deep connection to the 240-plus communities it calls home by paying tribute to community volunteers. The commercial was developed in consultation with the Canadian Volunteer Fire Services Association and pays tribute to all Canadians who volunteer to make our communities safer and stronger. To complement the commercials, a social media campaign will be launched to thank community volunteers and help celebrate the spirit of volunteerism that is the fabric of Canadian communities.  Giant Tiger’s proudly Canadian stores support over 1,200 charities and association across Canada.

The commercials, developed in partnership with Yield Branding, will air on national specialty TV stations as well as Tim’s TV and will have geo-targeted placement on the Weather Network.
