7‑Eleven launches its second single-origin coffee, this time from Chiapas, Mexico

Sustainable Coffee from Chiapas Region Carries the Rainforest Alliance ‘Certified™ Seal

IRVING, TEXAS, 2017-Apr-05 — /EPR Retail News/ — 7‑Eleven, Inc. has introduced its second single-origin coffee, this time from the Chiapas growing region of Mexico. Rainforest Alliance Certified™, the new premium, sustainable coffee is available exclusively at participating 7‑Eleven® stores. The world’s largest convenience retailer introduced its first single-origin coffee, sourced from Nicaragua, last fall.

This single-origin coffee from Chiapas is made exclusively from beans harvested in the mountainous highlands of southern Mexico, an area known for its dense rain forests and ancient Mayan ruins. Notes of cocoa balance the full-bodied, dark roast, which has a smooth, clean finish.

7‑Eleven coffee drinkers’ taste preferences continue to shift toward darker, richer flavors. With 100 percent Colombian coffee experiencing the fastest growth in its hot beverage lineup, the retailer introduced the darker roast, single-origin coffee from Nicaragua last fall. The new Mexican single-origin coffee is bolder still, with roast levels falling between the Colombian and Brazilian Bold flavors giving our customers more of a selection in the flavor profiles that they like.

“Colombia, Brazil, Nicaragua and now Mexico… these dark roast coffees sourced in Latin America are some of the most popular with 7‑Eleven coffee-lovers,” said Nancy Smith, 7‑Eleven senior vice president of fresh food and proprietary beverage merchandising. “When we began our sustainable coffee program, we naturally looked for robust flavor profiles that they would love to drink even more, knowing that doing so had minimal impact on the environment. Working with the Rainforest Alliance gives us assurances that we, as a company, are helping to foster sustainable farming practices that protect natural resources.”

For 30 years, the Rainforest Alliance has sought to conserve biodiversity and ensure sustainable livelihoods. Carrying the Rainforest Alliance Certified seal with the little green frog means the 100 percent Arabica beans for 7‑Eleven stores’ new coffee are sourced from coffee growers whose farms are required to meet strict standards designed to protect the environment, conserve wildlife and promote the well-being of local communities.

“The Rainforest Alliance is proud to be working with 7‑Eleven, a company that understands the value of sustainably sourced coffee and shares our belief that everyday actions add up to meaningful impact,” said Alex Morgan, Rainforest Alliance global director of Markets Transformation.

All 7‑Eleven coffee varieties, flavors and blends are exclusive, with roasting levels and specifications developed exclusively for the retailer. The global convenience store chain is the fourth largest coffee retailer in the U.S.

In 2016, 7‑Eleven began working with Conservation International (CI) to set measurable corporate social responsibility (CSR) goals to reduce its environmental footprint. 7‑Eleven’s CSR mission has three focus areas – planet, products and people. The retailer also joined CI’s Business and Sustainability Council, a forum for corporate leaders taking positive environmental actions in their businesses, to explore mutually beneficial ways to further reduce its environmental impact.

As part of its CSR objectives, 7‑Eleven will continue to seek out responsibly sourced coffees and other products and packaging with less environmental impact.

Like all its proprietary beverages sold in a cup, the new single-origin coffee qualifies for 7Rewards®, 7‑Eleven’s customer loyalty program. Through its mobile app, 7Rewards customers earn a free any-size drink after the purchase of six beverages such as coffee, Chillers® Iced Coffee, or Big Gulp® and Slurpee® drinks. The 7‑Eleven app is available for download in Google Play and the App store.

7‑Eleven® introduces hot, ready-to-eat breakfast pizza!

7‑Eleven® introduces hot, ready-to-eat breakfast pizza!

New Breakfast Pizza with Biscuit Crust is Available Whole, by the Slice

IRVING, TEXAS, 2017-Jan-18 — /EPR Retail News/ — Good gravy! Participating 7‑Eleven® stores now have hot, ready-to-eat breakfast pizza! While some like to eat traditional breakfast foods for the first meal of the day, others choose what’s easy, like leftover pizza, for breakfast. To bring the best of both worlds together, 7‑Eleven, Inc. has created a breakfast pizza that has everyone’s favorite breakfast foods in every slice.

The world’s largest convenience retailer’s new breakfast pizza is loaded with smoked bacon, breakfast sausage, hickory-smoked ham, scrambled eggs, cheddar and mozzarella cheese, and peppered cream gravy on top of a flaky biscuit crust.

The hot breakfast pizza is part of 7‑Eleven stores’ two-for-$2 pizza slice offer. Whole breakfast pizzas are $5.55.

Breakfast is the fastest-growing food daypart in food service, according to a Technomic consumer survey. Fast-food restaurants have extended their breakfast menu beyond the morning hours and shown sales increases as a result.

“This is a hearty option for customers craving a warm breakfast in addition to their fresh-brewed cup of coffee on cold mornings,” said Nancy Smith, 7‑Eleven senior vice president of fresh food and proprietary beverages. “And it’s great for sharing at the office giving co-workers another great option from the usual box of great donuts.”

During a successful test at select 7‑Eleven stores, the breakfast pizza proved so popular with customers that it became the second highest-selling pizza. Once customers tried it, they came back for more.

“Since we started carrying hot pizza, it has become one of the best-selling ready-to-eat foods at 7‑Eleven stores,” said Dennis Phelps, 7‑Eleven vice president of fresh food and proprietary beverages. “Mornings are our busiest time of day, and adding a breakfast pizza will prove to be as popular with the a.m. crowd as our other pizzas are for lunch and dinner.”

7‑Eleven launches two new Melt sandwiches

Text to Taste: Free Breakfast Melt with Coffee Purchase Feb. 23-26

DALLAS, 2016-Feb-25 — /EPR Retail News/ — 7‑Eleven, Inc. is heating up its breakfast menu with the launch of two new Melt sandwiches – the Bacon, Egg and Cheese Breakfast Melt and Maple Sausage, Bacon and Cheese Breakfast Melt. Suggested retail price is $2.99 at participating stores.

To encourage customers to try the new Breakfast Melts, 7‑Eleven is offering a free Breakfast Melt sandwich with any coffee purchase from Feb. 23-26. To receive a free Breakfast Melt sandwich, customers will need totext “Breakfast” to 711711 for a coupon link sent to their smartphone (limit one per customer).

Available in the fresh-foods case at participating 7‑Eleven® stores, the new toasted breakfast sandwiches are toasted fresh and come in two flavors:

  • Bacon, Egg and Cheese – Fluffy egg, topped with thick-cut, hickory-smoked bacon, melted aged cheddar cheese and garden vegetable cream cheese, all on a fresh artisan ciabatta roll
  • Maple Sausage, Bacon and Cheese – Maple sausage and thick-cut, hickory-smoked bacon topped with melted aged cheddar cheese on a fresh artisan ciabatta roll

“Our goal was to create a high quality, great tasting toasted breakfast sandwich that is best in class in the market,” said Nancy Smith, senior vice president of fresh food and proprietary beverage merchandising. “Through careful selection of premium ingredients with our partners, I believe we more than achieved that goal.”

“Instead of an English muffin or toast, our breakfast Melt is served on authentic artisan ciabatta bread. We use smoked cheddar instead of American cheese, plus thick-cut hickory-smoked bacon and maple sausage. Taste tests indicate our customers recognize the quality and great taste.”

As with all Melt sandwiches at 7‑Eleven stores, both can be purchased and toasted fresh at any time of day or night.

7‑Eleven’s Breakfast Melt sandwiches are made fresh daily in our local kitchens and delivered daily to participating 7‑Eleven stores.

Breakfast sandwiches are one of the most convenient ways to enjoy a protein-rich breakfast. Three out of four consumers say they eat one at least once a month, with four in 10 saying they have one at least once a week, according to research by NPD Crest. And most consumers say they prefer a hot breakfast over cold.

“All-day breakfast is heating up at quick-serve restaurants,” Smith said. “While some food outlets are just now realizing the importance of offering all-day breakfast, 7‑Eleven has long offered its fresh foods – and every product – morning, noon and night.”

7‑Eleven added toasted Melt sandwiches to its menu less than a year ago following the success of hot foods like pizza, chicken tenders and wings, and mini-tacos. The Melt sandwiches were in development for almost a year, during which every ingredient, each recipe, even the packaging was researched, sourced, tested and, if necessary, refined to improve taste and quality.

Already, the retailer sells well over 1 million Melt sandwiches each month, and the number is growing.

7‑Eleven, Inc. joins Feeding America network of food banks in a pay-it-forward campaign to buy bananas for families in need

Customers Can Pay it Forward by Donating Bananas to Local Feeding America Food® Banks

DALLAS, 2014-11-7— /EPR Retail News/ — 7‑Eleven, Inc. is joining the Feeding America network of food banks in a pay-it-forward campaign to buy bananas for food-insecure individuals and families in the U.S. To participate, 7‑Eleven®customers can purchase two Del Monte bananas for $1, which will be donated to Feeding America and distributed through its network of  local food banks to families in need.

For every two bananas donated by a customer, 7‑Eleven also will contribute an additional dime for the Feeding America network, up to $100,000. The campaign runs from Nov. 6 through Dec. 2, 2014.

“Too many families suffer from hunger in our country, and this is a quick and easy way 7‑Eleven and the people who shop our stores can help,” said Nancy Smith, 7‑Eleven senior vice president of merchandising. “Fresh produce is always highly requested at food banks and is important to good nutrition, especially for children. Our goal is to donate, with the help of our customers, bunches of bananas before the end of the year.”

Customers who make a contribution at their local 7‑Eleven store can choose to sign a holiday donation recognition card to be displayed in the store during the campaign. The retailer hopes to donate at least 2 million bananas to local food banks through the holiday campaign.

“This holiday season 7‑Eleven will support our focus on providing more nutrient-rich food choices for our clients,” said Nancy Curby, vice president of corporate partnerships at Feeding America. “This program provides a way for consumers to get involved in one of the most pressing issues our country is facing and support hunger-relief efforts at such a vital time.”

The mission of Feeding America, the nation’s leading domestic hunger-relief charity, is to feed America’s hungry through a national network of 200 member food banks and engage the country in the fight to solve hunger. Its member food banks supply food to more than 46.5 million Americans each year, including children and seniors.

“Food is an important part of the holiday season,” Smith said, “and we wanted to give our customers an opportunity to make a simple gift of food to the needy households in their community this Thanksgiving.”

7- Eleven is promoting its “banana benevolence” campaign on social media sites like Twitter and Facebook.

Because the banana donations are tax-deductible, customers should ask a store associate for a receipt.
