Halle, Belgium, 2016-Oct-22 — /EPR Retail News/ — On Wednesday 19 October, the renovated Colruyt store in Merelbeke will open its doors after a few months of renovation work. The store was transformed into a new-generation Colruyt store with a larger fresh market and a brand-new butcher’s department. Colruyt Merelbeke will also test an electronic price label system.
New-generation store
Store manager Ruth Van Gyseghem: “Colruyt renovates its stores to make them more efficient and nicer for customers to shop. For instance, near the fresh market we replaced the plastic flaps with an air curtain. When making renovations, we always aim at simplicity and the lowest costs, as our customers expect of us.”
Electronic price labels
In the new store, Colruyt tests new, electronic price labels with which it can adapt the prices automatically.”With this innovative system, the lowest prices will be visible even more rapidly”, explains the store manager.”Furthermore, we can represent Colruyt’s price policy literally in colour. The new labels can change colours so that normal lowest prices are black and lowered or ‘Red’ Prices really colour red. And if there is an Extra discount, it is visible with the charged price.”
Lower costs, environment-friendlier
The new, electronic price labels have more advantages. Ruth Van Gyseghem: “No need to print and transport labels and to put them in the shelf channels. Better for the environment and we save a lot of paper and costs, enabling us to keep guaranteeing the lowest prices. And the store employees have more time for their basic tasks such as filling the shelves before opening time so they have more time to help customers while the store is open.”
Broader product range and new butcher’s department
Customers will find an even broader range of products in the renewed store. “The fresh market is twice as large as before, and the frozen products department has also been expanded considerably”, says the store manager.
For fresh quality meat, customers can visit the brand-new butcher’s department. Head butcher Steven De Rycke: “Our customers have a nice overview of the range of meat, cold cuts and salads. And they can see the butchers at work in an open workshop. Customers can easily talk to them if they have questions or special orders.”
2 extra check-out points – 11 in total – ensure an even smoother service. The car park has also been expanded. And there is still a Collect&Go pick-up point at the Colruyt store in Merelbeke.
Special open evening
From Wednesday 19 October, store manager Ruth Van Gyseghem, head butcher Steven De Rycke and their 38 employees – 4 more than in the old store – will be on hand to welcome their customers at the revamped Colruyt Merelbeke.
Ruth Van Gyseghem: “The evening before, on Tuesday 18 October from 5 to 8 p.m., everyone is invited for a store preview. During this special open house, customers will be offered snacks and a drink. Everyone is most welcome!”
