Kroger’s QFC partners with Instacart to bring home delivery service in Puget Sound and Portland

CINCINNATI and BELLEVUE, Wash., 2017-Dec-06 — /EPR Retail News/ — QFC, a division of The Kroger Co. (NYSE: KR), today (12/4/2017) announced it is offering home delivery at a majority of its stores in both Puget Sound and Portland, through a partnership with Instacart, a nationally-recognized on-demand retail delivery service. The partnership supports two key drivers of the company’s Restock Kroger Plan: Expand Partnerships to Create Customer Value and Redefine the Food and Grocery Customer Experience.

“By offering home delivery in addition to in-store shopping and online ordering for curbside pickup, we are listening to our customers who are telling us they want the convenience of shopping anyway they choose,” said Suzy Monford, president of QFC. “We know that our customers are busier than ever but still want to feed their families fresh, healthy foods that are available at low prices. This new partnership allows our customers to have their groceries delivered to their doorsteps as soon as two hours after placing an order.”

QFC delivery powered by Instacart will be offered in addition to its ClickList store locations that offer online ordering for curbside pickup.

“Instacart customers prefer doing their online grocery shopping from local stores, where they know the products,” said Andrew Nodes, Vice President, Retail Accounts for Instacart. “We are thrilled to partner with QFC to give our customers in Portland and Seattle a new convenient option for shopping at their favorite local QFC store.”

How does QFC home delivery work?
Customers place their orders through the “Delivery” link at www.qfc.com. The customer enters the zip code where the delivery will be scheduled then chooses from 40,000 offered products, including perishables, which are categorized and sorted for easy viewing and selection. The customer builds a digital cart by clicking and adding products. Once the customer has completed building the online basket, a preferred delivery time between 9 a.m. and midnight can be selected. An Instacart shopper then hand-picks the items and delivers the order within a preferred one-hour time window. The home delivery fee will be waived for first-time customers.

Price Chopper Supermarkets and Market 32 expand home delivery service powered by Instacart to Capital Region of New York

SCHENECTADY, NY, 2017-Dec-01 — /EPR Retail News/ — Price Chopper Supermarkets and Market 32 continue to grow their partnership with Instacart, the technology-driven, nationwide on-demand grocery delivery service, by bringing same-day home delivery of groceries to Price Chopper/Market 32 customers throughout the Capital Region.

To place an order for delivery, customers simply go to shop.pricechopper.com or shop.market32.com. To encourage trial of the new service, Price Chopper/Market 32 is offering a $10 discount to new Instacart customers on their first order of $35 (or more) and waiving the delivery fee. The offer code for first time users is PCDELIVERS. The promotion is good through December 31, 2017.

Instacart’s business model raises the bar for online ordering and home delivery service to customers across Price Chopper/Market 32’s Capital Region footprint. The app efficiently connects an intuitive ordering process to a waiting shopper/driver to the assortment of fresh and high quality packaged products customers have come to expect from Price Chopper/Market 32 – at the same prices customers would find in the stores, including the vast majority of advertised sale prices. Instacart delivery fees vary based on the order size and desired delivery time. The specific delivery fee for each order will be displayed during checkout before the order is placed. For orders over $35, Instacart typically charges $5.99 for orders placed at least two hours in advance, and $7.99 for orders requested within one hour.

Instacart will replace the chain’s Shops4U service immediately in the Capital Region, though Shops4U will operate through Saturday, December 2 so to honor all orders that have already been placed. All Shops4U employees have been offered positions elsewhere within their Price Chopper/Market 32 store.

“We’re proud of the product mix and shopping experience we provide in our stores. And we’re thrilled to extend both beyond our four walls by adding the streamlined convenience of grocery delivery through Instacart. We know that our customers are busy and always looking for ways to save both time and money. Offering fresh produce, the best meats and grocery staples delivered right to the doorstep at a good value is yet another way that we can serve our customers,” said Glen Bradley, Price Chopper/Market 32’s group vice president of marketing.

“Instacart’s success hinges on our ability to offer customers same-day delivery from the stores they love within their own communities,” said Andrew Nodes, Vice President, Retail Accounts for Instacart. “We are proud to partner with Price Chopper and Market 32 Supermarkets to give customers a convenient, time-saving option to get the products they’ve come to rely on from this beloved brand.”

Price Chopper/Market 32 introduced Instacart earlier this month in Binghamton, Endicott, Chenango, Syracuse NY Hartford, CT and Central MA.

Meijer expands home delivery service to include season’s hottest gifts and toys and thousands of other items

Meijer expands home delivery service to include season’s hottest gifts and toys and thousands of other items

Retailer’s home delivery service expands to include toys, wrapping paper, Christmas decorations and thousands of other items

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich., 2017-Nov-07 — /EPR Retail News/ — Meijer is gearing up for the holidays by adding thousands of general merchandise items to its popular store-to-door home delivery service, challenging online retailers as competition for customer wallets continues to increase for Thanksgiving, Christmas and seasonal celebrations.

The general merchandise items now available through Meijer Home Delivery includes the season’s hottest gifts and toys, as well as wrapping paper, artificial trees and Christmas decorations. Other items added to a total of more than 70,000 fresh produce, grocery and general merchandise items hand-picked by Shipt shoppers from local Meijer stores include electronics like TVs, tablets, headphones, drones and gaming systems.

“We’ve had tremendous success delivering groceries to our customers across the Midwest, so we are very pleased to offer them the convenience of having their holiday gifts delivered to their doorstep as well,” Meijer President & CEO Rick Keyes said. “Whether you are looking for a turkey, toys and gifts or even decorations, our brick–and-mortar stores combined with a personal shopping solution provides something for everyone’s holiday shopping needs.”

Since launching in Detroit last September, Meijer and official home delivery partner Shipt have expanded the personalized service to more than 200 stores in just 148 days. The Meijer Home Delivery service is now on-pace to make more than a million deliveries from its stores by year end, and is now available to more than 10 million households in Michigan, Indiana, Ohio, Illinois, Wisconsin and Kentucky.

Keyes said one reason the program has been so successful is the company’s ability to offer product selection from its supercenters. A typical Meijer store features everything from fresh produce and grocery to general merchandise items, including light bulbs, diapers and baby items, as well as bulk items, like bags of rock salt and pet foods.

The National Retail Federation expects retail sales in November and December – excluding automobiles, gasoline and restaurants – to increase as much as 4 percent this year, for a total of $678.75 billion to $682 billion, up from $655.8 billion last year.

Because most Meijer stores are open 24-hours-a-day, customers can choose delivery times most convenient for them, which gives people the flexibility to shop and receive orders very early in the morning or late at night.

Meijer has also provided home delivery service members the ability to earn mPerks Rewards that can be redeemed in store, as well as offering sales on hundreds of items each week found through the Shipt app.

Meijer customers can sign up for the service for $99 per year. Unlimited deliveries are free for orders over $35; a flat $7 delivery fee is added to any orders under $35.

About Meijer:

Meijer is a Grand Rapids, Mich.-based retailer that operates 235 supercenters and grocery stores throughout Michigan, Ohio, Indiana, Illinois, Kentucky and Wisconsin. A privately-owned and family-operated company since 1934, Meijer pioneered the “one-stop shopping” concept and has evolved through the years to include expanded fresh produce and meat departments, as well as pharmacies, comprehensive apparel departments, pet departments, garden centers, toys and electronics. Meijer adds back-to-school items to its home delivery service

Meijer adds back-to-school items to its home delivery service

Retailer adds classroom essentials to home delivery service and drops prices on 300 popular back-to-school items

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich., 2017-Jul-31 — /EPR Retail News/ — Meijer is making it easier for parents to plan ahead for the coming school year. The Grand Rapids, Mich.-based retailer is adding key back-to-school items to its popular home delivery service and cutting prices in-store on more than 300 of its most popular items.

Beginning today, customers with home delivery memberships can shop online for the most frequently-shopped back–to-school items and have everything delivered store-to-door by Shipt shoppers as soon as one hour after the order is placed, or up to one day in advance. For customers wanting to shop in-store, the selection for back to school features price drops on the hottest items and has nearly 200 items priced $1 or less.

“Each year, we see parents and students shopping earlier and earlier, and they continue right up until the week school starts,” said Meijer Back-to-School Buyer Michael McKenzie. “Everyone is looking for the best combination of selection, convenience and low prices, so we hope providing this new way to shop and save time is going to help customers be better prepared for back to school and maximize their fun this summer.”

The Meijer home delivery service combines personalized shopping with fresh grocery and a wide selection of daily essentials available 24 hours a day. It is now available throughout Michigan, Indiana, Ohio, Illinois, Wisconsin, and Kentucky. Since launching the service in Detroit last September, Meijer has expanded the service to more than 160 stores and Shipt shoppers have made more than 250,000 deliveries.

McKenzie said Meijer stores have seen back-to-school business double week over week in late July, and he expects sales will continue to increase through September as families make their weekly grocery trips. Some of the hottest items so far include washable crayons and markers – as parents seek ways to keep clothes and homes clean – and pourable glue and food coloring, which are main ingredients for the incredibly popular slime-making trend.

Other hot items include:

  • Journals and calligraphy back in style: Journals are quickly becoming more popular than binders as students continue to mix durability with style. Following the coloring book craze from the past few years, calligraphy is now gaining popularity as another way to promote art and mindfulness exercises for kids and young adults.
  • Eye-catching accessories and supplies: Licensed products like backpacks, lunch kits and assorted school supplies are ever-popular, with top choices including Minecraft, Emoji, Princess Elena, Paw Patrol, Super Mario, Power Rangers, Despicable Me and Pokémon. For older students, Under Armour, Adidas and Swiss Gear, as well as Rachel Hale and bohemian-style are just some of the 90 different backpacks available at Meijer this year.
  • Stylish and comfortable apparel: Ribbed swing dresses, suede tops and leggings, quirky print mixing, and destructed denim are all hot trends in young girls’ clothing this season. Athleisure styling with velvet and satin details are big for juniors. One-quarter zip action tops, hooded fleece jackets, and jeans and joggers that mix texture and stretch are popular for both boys’ and kids’ outfits.
  • Lunches packing personality and taste: Bento boxes and reusable containers continue to grow in popularity, and kids are personalizing them even more. They are also much more interested in exploring exotic flavors – even trying child-friendly versions of sushi made with fruit, sometimes referred to as “frushi.” Parents are also using more whole grain wraps, pasta and crackers in kids’ lunch boxes.

Meijer expands its relationship with Shipt to bring home delivery service across its six-state footprint

Meijer expands its relationship with Shipt to bring home delivery service across its six-state footprint

Meijer signs deal with Shipt to expand home delivery; Customers to get groceries and essentials from local Meijer delivered in as little as one hour

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich., 2017-Mar-10 — /EPR Retail News/ — Meijer announced today it is bringing home delivery across its six-state footprint, starting with Grand Rapids, Fort Wayne and Indianapolis, and will quickly follow with other major markets in Michigan, Illinois, Indiana, Ohio, Kentucky, and Wisconsin.

“We are excited to expand our relationship with Shipt because together we can offer customers across the Midwest a whole new level of convenience, product variety, and service not available before,” Meijer President & CEO Rick Keyes said. “Now customers can shop a complete grocery list online, having access to our world class assortment of fresh produce, meat, dairy and a number of other essentials that Shipt will hand select from a local Meijer store and deliver to a customer’s doorstep.”

Beginning on March 29, Meijer customers in Grand Rapids with a Shipt membership will have the ability to shop 55,000 items across our stores using the Shipt smartphone app (iOS, android) or place orders directly through shipt.com. Customers can schedule their orders to be delivered in as little as one hour, seven days a week. Meijer and Shipt will also launch the service in Fort Wayne and the Indianapolis area in April. Other major markets in the Midwest will be announced in the coming months.

“The way our customers shop continues to evolve,” said Meijer Chairman Hank Meijer. “We believe the high-touch service that Shipt offers, coupled with what our customers love about shopping at Meijer, creates a new type of shopping experience.”

Bill Smith, Founder & CEO of Shipt, said the expansion of service at Meijer stores will also help create an estimated 10,000 jobs in six states in 2017. Shipt will build networks of hundreds of personal shoppers and identify opportunities to support community organizations in each Meijer market offering the service. “We are excited to partner with a leader in the retail industry who continues to put the customer first,” Smith said.

The retailer’s decision to expand the availability of digital home delivery comes after its highly successful launch of the service in the Detroit area last fall, which prompted Meijer to roll out the service to other markets. Shipt members in the Detroit area placed more than 65,000 orders since September 2016.

The Shipt delivery service is membership-based, with either annual or monthly options. For $99 a year, Shipt members receive unlimited free grocery deliveries on all orders over $35.

After signing up for Shipt, members can digitally shop a large selection of Meijer groceries, fresh produce, and everyday essentials including baby, health and beauty products. They can also note any preferences, choose a preferred delivery window and pay for their order. A Shipt shopper will hand pick their items and deliver them in as little as one hour after the order is placed.

Because most Meijer stores are open 24 hours a day, Shipt deliveries will be available at most Meijer locations around the clock, seven days a week, with the exception of certain holidays.
