Program implementation kicks off in September.

Grocer made a significant investment in Ceres community

CERES, CA, 2017-Jun-30 — /EPR Retail News/ — After months of construction, company officials and community leaders celebrated the grand opening of the new Save Mart store at 2920 Whitmore Avenue in Ceres Wednesday with a ribbon-cutting ceremony. New location fills the need for fresh food offerings in the community

Fair Oaks, CA, 2017-Jun-30 — /EPR Retail News/ — Raley’s advances their strategic growth plan with a new ground-up store opening today at the corner of Sunrise Boulevard and Douglas Road in Rancho Cordova, California. The 40,000-square-foot store offers fresh, high quality and healthy products in a format tailored to complement the local community. It marks the second new store Raley’s has opened in 2017 and provides residents with a much-needed full-service grocery store in a previously underserved area.

The Rancho Cordova store will offer fresh grocery items, an extensive selection of grab-and-go prepared foods, and a full-service deli, sushi and bakery department. This new store extends Raley’s vision to infuse life with health and happiness, and offers an extensive variety of natural and organic products, including an expanded probiotics section and more than 200 organic product items. Customers can expect high-quality products at affordable prices.

Raley’s eCart service will be available at the new location, allowing customers to shop online and pick-up in-store. As an extension of Raley’s commitment to world class customer service, eCart customers can specify their produce/shopping preferences, which are hand-selected by a Raley’s e-commerce personal shopper.

Raley’s is consistently investing in the sustainable elements for new locations. The new store generates 240 KW of solar energy, reducing the impact on the grid. In addition, there are energy efficient refrigerated cases with doors to conserve energy and rooftop adiabatic condensers water/air cooled system that saves over 2 million gallons of water per year.

Raley’s has hired 115 new team members to serve the community, with over 50 percent of them living in the Rancho Cordova community. The grand opening celebration was held today in partnership with the City of Rancho Cordova, Donahue Schriber, Moorfield Construction and Stafford King Wiese Architects.

ZURICH, Switzerland, 2017-Jun-30 — /EPR Retail News/ — Unter der Leitung von Andrea Broggini hat die Verwaltung des Migros-Genossenschafts-Bundes (MGB) an ihrer Sitzung vom 29. Juni 2017 Sarah Kreienbühl (46) zur neuen Vorsteherin des Departements HR, Kulturelles & Soziales, Freizeit und zum Mitglied der Generaldirektion des MGB ernannt. Damit tritt sie am 1. Januar 2018 die Nachfolge von Fabrice Zumbrunnen an, der zum gleichen Zeitpunkt seine neue Funktion als Präsident der Generaldirektion MGB übernehmen wird.

Sarah Kreienbühl studierte Angewandte Psychologie an der Universität Zürich und arbeitete während fünf Jahren als Psychologin bei der Swissair im Bereich der Selektion von Piloten und Flugverkehrsleitern. Anschliessend war sie als Beraterin bei Amrop International tätig, einem weltweit auf die Besetzung von Führungskräften spezialisierten Unternehmen. Später baute sie bei der im Bereich Laborautomation führenden internationalen Tecan Group als Mitglied der Geschäftsleitung und Personalchefin eine globale HRM-Struktur auf.

Seit 2004 ist die schweizerisch-französische Doppelbürgerin für die Sonova AG tätig, in der Schweiz auch durch ihre Kernmarke Phonak bekannt. Beim Weltmarktführer für Hörlösungen mit über 14‘000 Mitarbeitenden, weltweit 60 Niederlassungen und 2,4 Milliarden Franken Umsatz ist Sarah Kreienbühl seither Mitglied der Konzernleitung und verantwortlich für das HRM. Sie baute für die ganze Gruppe erfolgreich eine globale HRM-Strategie auf sowie ein wegweisendes, integriertes und softwarebasiertes Managementsystem mit gruppenweit einheitlichen Prozessen, Standards und Messkriterien. Vor fünf Jahren übernahm sie zusätzlich die Leitung der Unternehmenskommunikation, zu der die Media Relations und die interne Kommunikation, das Corporate Branding sowie die Corporate Social Responsibility gehören. Zudem ist sie im Stiftungsrat der karitativen „Hear the World Foundation“, die bedürftigen Kindern weltweit das Hören ermöglicht.

Herbert Bolliger, bis Ende Jahr noch Präsident der Generaldirektion MGB, ist überzeugt, dass Sarah Kreienbühl „nicht nur alle notwendigen fachlichen Kompetenzen mitbringt, sondern auch die Migros-Werte hochhalten und sich dank ihrer langjährigen Erfahrung in einem weltweit tätigen Unternehmen rasch in der komplexen Migros-Gruppe zurechtfinden wird“.

Für Fabrice Zumbrunnen, designierter Präsident der Generaldirektion MGB, war für die Neubesetzung neben den fachlichen und sozialen Fähigkeiten auch entscheidend, dass seine Nachfolgerin über die notwendigen digitalen Kompetenzen verfügt. „Sarah Kreienbühl wird dank ihrer Führungskompetenz, ihrer profunden Fachkenntnisse und ihres ausgeprägten unternehmerischen Denkens das Departement erfolgreich führen und eine wichtige Rolle in der digitalen Transformation der Migros einnehmen“, sagt Fabrice Zumbrunnen.

National Retail Federation supports William Emanuel as National Labor Relations Board nominee

WASHINGTON, 2017-Jun-30 — /EPR Retail News/ — The National Retail Federation today offered support for William Emanuel, President Trump’s latest nominee for the National Labor Relations Board, and urged the Senate to swiftly confirm both Emanuel and Trump’s earlier nominee, Marvin Kaplan.

“Mr. Emanuel is a highly qualified and well-respected labor attorney who will bring decades of relevant expertise to the board,” NRF Senior Vice President for Government Relations David French said. “Retailers are confident that he will be a fair arbiter of the law and urge the Senate to confirm him promptly.”

“Over the past eight years, the retail industry and employers across the country have faced a crushing regulatory burden that has created immense uncertainty in labor relations and made it much harder to grow,” French said. “Much of this uncertainty has stemmed from the NLRB’s pursuit of an activist agenda that consistently put the interests of labor unions before the rights of employers and employees. Both job creators and employees will benefit from a more balanced approach in labor relations.”

Emanuel and Kaplan would fill the two current vacancies on the five-member board.

In recent years, retailers have been burdened by NLRB decisions on policies such as the joint-employer standard, micro-unions and changes to union election procedures.

BRC appoints William Bain to accelerate its research and further strengthen its voice on Brexit

LONDON, 2017-Jun-30 — /EPR Retail News/ — The British Retail Consortium (BRC) has appointed William Bain to accelerate its research and further strengthen its voice on Brexit.

Bain’s previous experience includes five and a half years as a Member of Parliament, during which he served as Shadow Food and Farming Minister, and was a member of the BIS Select Committee working on inquiries which focused on trade issues. Since leaving Westminster, he has worked as a consultant to companies on the implications of Brexit. He is reporting to Andrew Opie, the Director of Food Policy at the BRC.

Bain will work on the BRC’s Fair Brexit For Consumers campaign, which is aimed at supporting the Government in ensuring a fair deal for consumers in negotiations with the EU.

The BRC’s recently published research advocated a “smart Brexit”. Its Tariff Roadmapmade the case for an orderly and sequenced process that prioritises across the board tariff-free arrangements with the EU before securing new trading relationships with the rest of the world. The research found that:

  • Retailers directly import approximately £5 billion of food products and indirectly import approximately £15 billion through wholesalers or manufacturers;
  • The weighted average tariff, if the UK were to default to WTO tariffs on UK food imports from the EU, would be 22 per cent;
  • New partners in the rest of the world present a big opportunity as nearly half the UK’s non-food imports come from countries where there is no pre-existing EU trade arrangements. If new deals were negotiated with these countries, UK retailers could see reductions in tariffs on clothes of 12 per cent and leather handbags at three per cent, for example.

 

Commenting on the announcement, Helen Dickinson OBE, Chief Executive of the British Retail Consortium said:

“The retail industry’s biggest priority is to work alongside the Government to secure a fair Brexit for consumers. This means ensuring that ordinary shoppers aren’t hit with the cost of unwanted new tariffs and the UK is able to build new trading relationships with the rest of the world in the long-term. William’s experience and skills will further strengthen the BRC’s voice on crucial trade and regulation issues during a pivotal period of time.”

William Bain said:

“The retail industry is at the epicentre of the changes ahead arising from the UK’s transition to a new relationship with the European Union involving some of our biggest markets and industry supply chains. I’m thrilled to be part of the BRC’s pioneering work as the voice of the industry at such an important time for UK businesses and consumers.”
