DICK’S Sporting Goods to bring 210 jobs with the opening of four new stores in February

The retailer will celebrate with four grand opening celebrations

PITTSBURGH, 2018-Feb-13 — /EPR Retail News/ — DICK’S Sporting Goods (NYSE: DKS), the largest U.S.-based, full-line omni-channel sporting goods retailer, will be opening four new DICK’S Sporting Goods stores in February.

DICK’S will now have 721 DICK’S Sporting Goods stores nationwide in 47 states. The new DICK’S locations will bring approximately 210 collective jobs to four communities through the hiring of full-time, part-time and temporary associates for these stores.

DICK’S Sporting Goods announces the appointment of Paul Gaffney as Chief Technology Officer

Paul Gaffney to Lead DICK’S Overall Technology Efforts

PITTSBURGH, 2017-Nov-15 — /EPR Retail News/ — DICK’S Sporting Goods (NYSE: DKS) today  (November 14, 2017) announced Paul Gaffney has been named Chief Technology Officer, effective November 20. In this role, Gaffney will be responsible for the Company’s technology, including infrastructure, eCommerce platforms and new and evolving digital platforms.

“Paul is joining the Company at a critical time as we’re evolving every day through our digital transformation efforts,” said Edward W. Stack, Chairman & Chief Executive Officer. “Paul’s experience will make an immediate impact on the Company and we’re thrilled to welcome him to the DICK’S family.”

Gaffney joins DICK’S from The Home Depot, where he most recently served as the Senior Vice President of Information Technology, responsible for the organization’s software engineering, user-centered design and applications. While at The Home Depot, Gaffney was responsible for leading their digital revolution, inspiring the engineering team to deliver customer focused software to millions of customers and over 400,000 associates.

Paul Gaffney remarked, “I’m excited to join the DICK’S Sporting Goods team at this important time of focus and investment in technology as a key enabler to better communicate with and serve our customers.”

Throughout his career, Gaffney held a variety of senior leadership roles, most notably serving as President and Chief Executive Officer with AAA Northern California. He holds a bachelor’s degree in Computer Science from Harvard University and is a Henry Crown Fellow at the Aspen Institute.

DICK’S Sporting Goods supports number of winter athletes on their quest to be part of Team USA

PITTSBURGH, 2017-Sep-20 — /EPR Retail News/ — DICK’S Sporting Goods (NYSE: DKS), the official sporting goods retail sponsor of Team USA, announced today (September 19, 2017) its roster of winter U.S. Olympic and Paralympic Contenders that are being supported by the Company through flexible employment or sponsorship agreements.

Headlining the roster of 41 U.S. Winter Olympic and Paralympic Contenders are Team USA hopefuls figure skater Ashley Wagner and women’s hockey goalie Alex Rigsby. In addition to serving as an ambassador for the Contenders program, Rigsby is employed as a DICK’S Store Associate as she trains for Team USA in the lead up to the Olympic Winter Games PyeongChang 2018. Rigsby credits the Contender program as the first job that has provided the flexibility to accommodate her intense training schedule, and hopes the program can generate awareness of the financial need of many U.S. Olympic and Paralympic hopefuls.

“This program provides an amazing opportunity to athletes like me who need assistance to fund our dreams of playing for Team USA,” said Rigsby. “I’ve really enjoyed working at DICK’S Sporting Goods and helping customers select the gear they need to enjoy the sports they love. The Contenders are offered flexible work schedules and competitive compensation, allowing them to devote the necessary time for training to be part of Team USA at future Olympic or Paralympic Games. For the winter 2017-2018 season, 41 U.S. Olympic and Paralympic hopefuls from ten different sports are participating in the program, currently working in 24 stores across 17 states.

Donations of clothing, footwear, supplies and monetary support to aide short-term emergency requests and long-term disaster recovery efforts

PITTSBURGH, PA, 2017-Sep-15 — /EPR Retail News/ — DICK’S Sporting Goods (NYSE: DKS) along with The DICK’S Sporting Goods Foundation today announced a $5.5 million commitment to support communities impacted by Hurricanes Harvey and Irma. The short-term emergency requests and long-term recovery support ranges from monetary donations, to equipment and apparel and other much needed supplies distributed in partnership with The American Red Cross and local authorities.

“Our heart goes out to all impacted by Hurricanes Harvey and Irma,” said Lauren Hobart, President, DICK’S Sporting Goods and The DICK’S Sporting Goods Foundation. “We are committed to helping our valued customers and Associates begin to rebuild. Together with our Foundation, we are working closely with local and national organizations to maximize our support for both the immediate and long-term recovery of those in need.”

DICK’S is donating $3.5 million worth of clothing and footwear to those in need through its partnership with The American Red Cross.DICK’S is also helping to minimize the risk of lost wages and assisting Associates with getting back on their feet. Additionally, DICK’S and The DICK’S Foundation will donate $2 million to rebuild and refurbish youth sports programs and facilities across the Gulf Coast, Florida and other states impacted by the Hurricanes.

As part of this commitment, The DICK’S Sporting Goods Foundation has established a $1 million Sports Matter relief fund on DonorsChoose.org, in which eligible schools will be able to receive up to $25,000 in funding for their sports programs. An additional $1 million from DICK’S Community Marketing efforts will provide support to impacted community youth sports leagues, teams and organizations as they begin to rebuild.

Developed in 2014, Sports Matter provides equipment, uniforms and monetary donations to youth sports teams in need, and raises awareness surrounding the decline in funding for youth sports nation-wide.

The ESPN Corporate Community Impact Award recognizes a corporation that uses the power of sports to help advance a social issue, cause or community organization. DICK’S was honored for their long-standing commitment to sports and actions in helping to save youth sports.

“It’s a tremendous honor for us to receive this important award from ESPN” said Lauren Hobart, DICK’S Sporting Goods President & President of the DICK’S Foundation. “Youth sports are in trouble.  Studies tell us that billions of dollars have been cut from youth sports in recent years and 60% of children must now pay a fee to play. Yet sports are one of the best youth development tools that exist, so we’re working hard to reverse this frightening trend.”

DICK’S and The DICK’S Foundation have been working to combat this crisis and since 2014 have pledged more than $50 million to support teams and leagues in need, while working to raise awareness of the importance of youth sports across the country through the Sports Matter campaign. To date, Sports Matter has saved thousands of youth sports teams and given hundreds of thousands of kids the opportunity to play.

In this role, Hudler will be responsible for the Company’s overall marketing and consumer engagement strategy and implementation, and will report to Lauren Hobart, President, DICK’S Sporting Goods.

Hudler joins DICK’S from an 11-year career with Dunkin’ Brands, where he most recently served as Senior Vice President, Chief Digital Officer, responsible for the brand’s digital strategy and product roadmap, including mobile, loyalty and all consumer-facing technology. Previously, he was Vice President, Global Consumer Engagement, and was responsible for advertising, media, promotions and eCommerce functions for the 12,000 Dunkin’ restaurants globally.

Grand Opening celebrations for new stores in Norwalk, CT and Sunnyvale, CA will occur March 17 through March 19.

The new stores will bring the retailer’s total to 682 DICK’S Sporting Goods locations in the country. The Norwalk location will be the  DICK’S 12th Connecticut, while the Sunnyvale location will be the first for that community and 47th store in California.

DICK’S Sporting Goods to open five new stores in IA, NY and GA during the second week of March

The retailer will celebrate the opening of three DICK’S Sporting Goods, one Field & Stream and one Golf Galaxy during events that will run March 10 through March 12

PITTSBURGH, 2017-Feb-23 — /EPR Retail News/ — DICK’S Sporting Goods (NYSE: DKS), the largest U.S.-based, full-line omni-channel sporting goods retailer, will be opening five new stores during the second week in March, totaling approximately 180,000 square feet of retail. Grand Opening celebrations for new stores in Davenport, IA, Queens, NY and Hinesville, GA will occur March 10 through March 12.

In the Glendale area of Queens, DICK’S will celebrate the grand opening of one of the former Sports Authority locations that the Company took over late last year. This will be the 678th DICK’S in the country and 41st in the state of New York. It will also be the retailer’s second location in New York City, the first of which opened on Staten Island in 2011.

A new DICK’S Sporting Goods will also open in Hinesville, GA which will be the 679th DICK’S store in the country and 20th in Georgia.

The Company will open a DICK’S Sporting Goods, Field & Stream and Golf Galaxy all under one roof in Davenport – the third store of its kind in the country. This will be the 680th DICK’S store in the country and eighth in Iowa, 29th Field & Stream in the country and first in Iowa and the 92nd store in the country that Golf Galaxy is operating and second in Iowa.

DICK’S Sporting Goods launches Sports Matter green shoelace movement as part of its fight against youth sports funding crisis

Dexter Fowler, Jennie Finch, Isaiah Thomas and others have joined the sporting goods retailer to support the sale of green laces with two dollars from every purchase going to The DICK’S Sporting Goods Foundation’s Sports Matter program

PITTSBURGH, 2016-Nov-22 — /EPR Retail News/ — DICK’S Sporting Goods, a leading omni-channel sporting goods retailer, announced today (November 21, 2016) the launch of a Sports Matter green shoelace movement as part of its fight against the youth sports funding crisis.

Billions of dollars have been cut from youth sports funding in recent years and 27% of U.S. public high schools may not have any sports programs by 2020(1). DICK’S and The DICK’S Sporting Goods Foundation have pledged more than $50 million to support teams and raise awareness of this issue since 2014, and to date, have helped nearly 2,000 youth sports teams.

Those who want to be part of the movement to help save youth sports can purchase Sports Matter green shoelaces at any DICK’S store nationwide or on dicks.com. DICK’S will donate two dollars from every shoelace sale to The DICK’S Sporting Goods Foundation’s Sports Matter program, which is dedicated to helping to save underfunded youth sports programs. Laces are available in oval and flat varieties and in various lengths.

Customers can show their support socially as well by taking a picture of their casual or athletic shoes or cleats laced up with green shoelaces and use #SaveYouthSports.

PREIT announces DICK’S Sporting Goods and Field & Stream to open at Viewmont Mall in Scranton, PA

Transaction reinforces PREIT’s proficiency in proactively replacing anchors

PHILADELPHIA, 2016-Apr-12 — /EPR Retail News/ — PREIT (NYSE: PEI) today announced a lease has been executed that will bring DICK’S Sporting Goods and Field & Stream to Viewmont Mall in Scranton, PA. The dual store format concept will replace the existing Sears at the property in 90,000 square feet of space. Sears will close this July, with DICK’s Sporting Goods and Field & Stream scheduled to open for business for Holiday 2017.

Over the past several years, Viewmont Mall has been a main focus in PREIT’s strategy to upgrade the quality of its tenant mix within its portfolio. Viewmont’s remerchandising, which include the recent addition of national tenants Ulta, Buffalo Wild Wings, Forever 21 and Yankee Candle, set the stage for a second phase of redevelopment to join DICK’s Sporting Goods and Field & Stream in the near future.

The addition of DICK’S Sporting Goods and Field & Stream as a replacement for Sears also underscores PREIT’s ability to proactively replace vacant anchors. As the Company recasts its anchor mix, it continues to add value to its repositioned portfolio, expanding its dialog with key tenants and adding dynamic retail concepts to its roster.

DICK’S Sporting Goods launches its first Team USA-themed TV and digital advertisements

  • New creative tells the story of the sacrifice and dedication of U.S. Olympic and Paralympic hopefuls participating in the retailer’s in-store employment program

PITTSBURGH, 2016-Apr-12 — /EPR Retail News/ — DICK’S Sporting Goods (NYSE: DKS), the largest U.S.-based, full-line omni-channel sporting goods retailer, today launched its first Team USA-themed TV and digital advertisements as part of its sponsorship of the U.S. Olympic Committee.

The inspiring creative celebrates the journey and sacrifice made by Team USA hopefuls in their pursuit of their Olympic and Paralympic dreams. Campaign elements tell the story of the grit and determination shown by five Team USA hopefuls who work in DICK’S Sporting Goods stores as part of the Company’s Contenders program, which provides flexible work schedules and competitive compensation to qualified athletes.

The athletes featured in the commercial are a small portion of DICK’S roster of nearly 200 U.S. Olympic and Paralympic Contenders across 35 sports who are currently employed at 89 stores in 32 states. Athletes featured in the 60-second commercial include:

  • Jon Jones (Track & Field – Shot Put) – Jones, who works in the team sports and fitness departments at a DICK’S Sporting Goods in Amherst, N.Y. is the reigning NCAA Champion in shot put. The recent University of Buffalo graduate became the school’s first-ever NCAA track and field national champion. Since graduating, the 24-year-old has turned his attention to international competition where he placed fifth at the 2015 Pan-American Games in Toronto and earned a gold medal at NACAC Senior Area Championships in Costa Rica.
  • Jessica Medina (Wrestling) – The 29-year-old Medina is currently ranked as the number three woman in the U.S. in her weight class. Born in Chicago and raised in California, she has brought home several podium finishes in U.S. and international competition. She works at an Arizona-based DICK’S Sporting Goods.
  • Desiree Miller (Wheelchair Basketball) – 28-year-old Desiree Miller has already represented Team USA at the London 2012 Paralympic Games where she and the women’s wheelchair basketball team placed fourth. When she isn’t training or competing with her team, she works in the team sports department at a Madison, Wis. DICK’S Sporting Goods.
  • Laura Ryan (Diving) – Laura Ryan works at a Georgia DICK’S Sporting Goods while she trains to represent Team USA in Rio. The 23-year-old University of Georgia graduate has won several collegiate and national titles and plans to attend physician’s assistant school on top of working, training and competing.
  • N’aithan Scott (Track & Field – Hurdles) – Scott, a U.S. Olympic hopeful in the 110m hurdles, works at an Arizona-based DICK’S Sporting Goods. In addition to his grueling training each day, he is a father of two and regularly volunteers to help teach children the importance of nutrition and exercise.

To supplement the support that DICK’S is providing to this current group of Contenders, the DICK’S Sporting Goods Foundation has also announced a commitment to support the next generation of Contenders.

For every Olympic and Paralympic Games medal that Team USA wins in Rio, the DICK’S Foundation will donate $1,000 to select youth sports organizations who are part of the USOC family to ensure future Contenders are able to play the sports they love. Each of the DICK’S Sporting Goods Contenders will have the opportunity to select an organization that will benefit from this program. A full list of benefitting organizations will be announced at a later date.
