StubHub gives current and former NFL players exposure to hands-on business experience through the NFLPA’s Externship and Fellowship programs.

In addition and separate from the NFLPA’s Externship program, StubHub announced they will pilot a year-long paid Fellowship program with the NFLPA later this year for transitioning NFL players evaluating their next career moves.

In its fifth year, the 2018 NFLPA Externship program pairs 41 athletes with 20 organizations that best fit participants’ interests and career development goals. As part of StubHub’s NFLPA Externship program, players will learn what it’s like to work in a fast paced Silicon Valley business environment, tasked with solving a real-life business problem and presenting the solution to StubHub’s leadership upon completion of the program. Each player will be assigned a mentor and learn every aspect of StubHub’s business from technology and finance to sitting in on customer service calls to helping fans find the perfect seats and tickets at StubHub’s Flagship ticket location in New York City.

StubHub and the NFLPA’s Fellowship initiative will be a separate program and will kick off later this year.

eBay expands its Seller Hub with acquisition of Terapeak

Terapeak’s Tools and Insights to Help Sellers Better Manage and Grow Their Businesses on eBay

San Jose, CA, 2017-Dec-14 — /EPR Retail News/ — eBay today announced that it has signed an agreement to acquire Terapeak, a Toronto-based company that uses supply, demand and pricing data to help ecommerce sellers know what to sell, when to sell it and at what price on marketplaces such as eBay.  Upon the close of the transaction, eBay will begin integrating certain functionality from Terapeak into its Seller Hub. Financial terms of the deal were not disclosed.

Seller Hub brings valuable insights from eBay’s vast array of data directly to its sellers to help them manage and grow their business in one place – making professional selling on eBay easier.  The user-friendly interface enables sellers to manage their inventory and orders, access valuable performance insights, identify opportunities for growth and take advantage of ways to get their products in front of the right buyers faster and more efficiently.

With the new integration, Shopify merchants will have the opportunity to surface their brand and products to a massive new audience of more than 169 million active eBay buyers. eBay shoppers will benefit from added selection and choice from potentially hundreds of thousands of Shopify merchants.

This integration will also enable Shopify merchants to immediately sync inventory information such as product title and description, item specifics, price and quantity from Shopify to eBay. Customer orders will also be imported to Shopify and allow merchants to fulfill orders from both platforms in one location, while messages from buyers on eBay will also be visible within Shopify so their sellers won’t miss any important communications.

The first of seven global events are taking place at the company’s headquarters in San Jose. The event brings together eBay’s community of innovative and influential developers to introduce new APIs and updated features for the eBay platform. The updates follow last Fall’s announcement of ten new APIs.

“Over the past seven months, we’ve not only grown the number of registered developers who are part of our program, but our APIs have continued to accelerate selling and buying,” said Gail Frederick, Senior Director of eBay’s Developer Ecosystem and Services. “As a team, we have an API-first mentality – we’re taking a developer-centric model for delivering APIs. Working with third-party developers and launch partners to build and update APIs is important for eBay as we aspire to become the world’s most powerful selling platform, and a platform that developers love.”

This summer, conferences will take place in seven locations across the US, Europe and Asia. eBay’s global community of developers will share best practices and learn from API developers and product leaders. And, most importantly, developers will get a chance to hear into how eBay is leveraging its technology to make it easier for our developer ecosystem to create innovative new eBay experiences.

What’s New

Today, we are announcing new Commerce APIs, which is useful for buying and selling on eBay. The first capability in the Commerce APIs is the Taxonomy API. With this API, sellers get the category taxonomy for the eBay marketplace, and suggested categories. Sellers can also use this to organize their inventory. Buyers use the API to easily browse and discover what they are looking for.

We are also introducing a new Buy API, Buy Marketing API, which gives developers the best-selling products in a category, ranked by product demand metrics.

Over the summer, eight of our Sell and Buy API capabilities will be available globally.* On the sell-side, the APIs will enable easy listing management. On the buy-side, shoppers can purchase without ever having to visit eBay.

We are also adding new features through the various Sell and Buy APIs:

  • Browse API – Buyer-driven search enhanced by providing more filters.
  • Inventory API – A migration tool that provides a retail-standard inventory model for seller’s listings.
  • Sell Marketing API -For the Promotions Manager capability, developers can choose inventory by category and other criteria. Also, a new reporting capability that enables sellers to use APIs to get performance reports for their promotions.
  • Sell Marketing API -For thePromoted Listings capability, developers can get asynchronous performance reports for their promoted listings.

All of these updates can be found on the eBay Developer Portal. On the portal, we will be adding API usage reports for latest RESTful APIs, modern layout for API documentation and providing OpenAPI specifications for our RESTful APIs, allowing developers to generate client SDKs in over 40 programming languages.

eBay’s APIs By The Numbers

At the end of Q1 2017, the eBay Developer Program had 362,000 registered users across 190 markets. Through its APIs, eBay onboarded partners who leveraged both the Sell and Buy APIs, including: Chairish**, Snupps, WineDirect and SHIFTMobility**.

  • Create more than 800M new listings in Q1
  • Manage about 4x that number

The new option begins this month in Germany, and will be rolled out to the U.S. later this summer.

But still, we know many consumers may be hesitant to purchase certain types of high-end merchandise online.

Later this year, eBay will be launching an authentication program – eBay Authenticate™, a service powered by a network of professional authenticators. The program is designed to boost consumer confidence when purchasing high-end merchandise. This is another step in raising the standard of online commerce to help every eBay customer find their perfect – from the new to the unique and everything in between.

eBay sat down with Laura Chambers – Vice President of eBay Consumer Selling, and lead of this new program – to hear more about the program.

Q: Tell me more about this authentication program?

Laura: eBay pioneered buying and selling online. We created the first ever ecommerce trust infrastructure at scale, making it safe and secure for consumers to transact. We’re currently developing a service that will further benefit both buyers and sellers on our marketplace. We know that many shoppers may be hesitant to purchase high-end products online. This service is designed to help quell some of those concerns – and in turn – enhance the opportunity for our sellers to get top dollar for their items.

Q: How will the authentication program work?

Laura: Throughout the course of the year, we’ll be testing and building out the foundation of the program, but the basic premise is there will be an authentication service powered by a network of professional authenticators that sellers and buyers can take advantage of.

eBay sellers who sell certain types of inventory, such as high-end handbags, will have an opportunity to opt-in to the authentication service for a fee when listing a product. In return, there will be messaging on their listing that highlights that the item will be reviewed by a professional authenticator before it’s delivered to the buyer. If the item sells, a professional authenticator will examine the item for authenticity. If the item passes inspection, the item will be forwarded to the buyer. To further bolster consumer trust in this program – if a buyer receives an item following inspection and it’s found to be inauthentic – eBay will refund the buyer two times the cost of the original purchase price*.

For listings within specific categories where the seller hasn’t adopted the authentication service, the buyer will still have the ability to utilize the service for a fee.

Q: Is there a certain category of inventory this service pertains to?

Laura: We’ll initially be focusing on areas within the fashion category, such as high-end handbags, as we know this particular set of inventory causes some consumers apprehension in their purchase journey. Based on our learnings, we’ll look to broaden the service out further.

Q: Who does the program benefit?

Laura: For buyers, the service adds another layer of trust to allow them to shop confidently. And for sellers, the service will be most beneficial for those who are looking to part ways with their high-value items, but don’t necessarily have a long established selling history on eBay. For our more established sellers, the service may not be as meaningful given they’ve likely established a trusted reputation, but it will certainly be available to all sellers.

Q: How does this program tie into eBay’s anti-counterfeit efforts?

Laura: We view this program as an extension of our existing industry-leading anti-counterfeit initiatives. We utilize a combination of sophisticated detection tools, enforcement and strong relationships with brand owners, retailers and law enforcement agencies to present our customers with a safe, trusted shopping experience. Back in 1998, we launched our best-in-class Verified Rights Owner (VeRO) program, which allows more than 40,000 rights owners to quickly report possible counterfeit goods. Less than a fraction of a percentage point of all items listed on eBay were identified as potentially counterfeit. This program simply helps our buyers have more confidence on the great, authentic inventory that we have on the site – and enable our sellers to benefit from that confidence.

Q: What is the timing for launching this program?

Laura: We’ll be piloting various elements of the program in the coming months, and aiming to make this broadly available toward the end of this year.

eBay has signed an agreement to acquire Corrigon Ltd., a pioneer of visual search technologies. Corrigon helps identify objects within an image, matching both visual and textual elements to ensure that the image is recognized, correctly classified and best-matched to its corresponding product. With more than one billion live listings on eBay’s platform, Corrigon’s expertise and technology will help match the best images to their products so that shoppers can be confident that what they buy is exactly what they see.  Corrigon is the third acquisition in 2016 to further bolster eBay’s structured data efforts, following the acquisitions of SalesPredict and Expertmaker.  Financial terms of the deal were not disclosed.

Corrigon brings deep experience in image processing and computer vision to eBay.  Specifically, Corrigon’s technology and expertise will contribute to eBay’s efforts with image recognition, classification and image enhancements as part of its structured data initiative. There are three parts to eBay’s structured data initiative: first, collect the data; second, process and enrich the data; and third, create product experiences. Corrigon will support the second and third parts – processing and enriching the data and creating product experiences.

“As we continue to evolve the eBay shopping experience, Corrigon’s technology and expertise will help buyers find the best results when shopping on eBay through experiences that were not possible a year ago, before our investments in structured data,” said Amit Menipaz, Vice President and General Manager of Structured Data at eBay. “Corrigon represents eBay’s third acquisition in the structured data space this year, further underscoring our commitment to powering deeper inventory insights for our sellers and compelling new user experiences for our buyers.”

Corrigon was co-founded in 2008 by Avinoam Omer and Einav Itamar.  Prior to Corrigon, Omer founded Zoomix (acquired by Microsoft), which developed machine learning technology for data quality and master data management and, before that, DataChase.
