Zalando sent out the first parcel from its fulfillment center in Brunna, Sweden

Zalando sent out the first parcel from its fulfillment center in Brunna, Sweden

Berlin, 2017-Oct-20 — /EPR Retail News/ — Zalando, Europe’s leading online fashion platform, sent out the first parcel from its fulfillment center in Brunna yesterday. Earlier in May this year, Zalando fruitfully completed its location search for the first Nordic fulfillment center in Sweden in order to better serve its customers in the Nordics. The fulfillment center in Brunna, close to Stockholm, is operated by the local partner Ingram Micro. The test operations just commenced and logistics processes will be further ramped up over the course of the next months.

“We are continuously advancing our logistics network and strive to be internationally well positioned in order to keep improving our localized offer. The fulfillment center will ensure that Zalando’s strong and growing customer base experiences a more convenient service and receives orders faster in all Nordic markets. The first parcels will be shipped today, and full operations are expected to be secured in 2018. The satellite warehouse in Brunna will decrease lead times significantly, enabling next day deliveries to all Nordic capitals and the possibility for same day delivery in Stockholm”, says Kenneth Melchior, Nordic Cluster Head at Zalando.

The fulfillment center in Brunna is ideal strategically due to its geographic location. The position close to Stockholm in combination with the sophisticated infrastructure at hand, will make it possible to cut lead times in half. Denmark and Sweden will see the average delivery time decrease to 1-2 days from 2-5. Finland and Norway can expect a decrease to 1-3 days instead of the current 3-7. The fulfillment center will moreover provide a foundation for testing new services catering to changing customer needs, like the return on demand pilot ‘Zalando Hämtar’ currently running in Stockholm.

Bol.com opens new BREEAM certified fulfillment center

Bol.com opens new BREEAM certified fulfillment center

Zaandam, the Netherlands, 2017-Sep-29 — /EPR Retail News/ — On September 27 Bol.com opened its new fulfillment center, one of the biggest projects in its history that will help the brand ensure the most reliable and fast delivery of eCommerce orders in the Netherlands and Belgium.

The fulfillment center, which has space for around 7 million items, is a highly sustainable building and earlier this year received an international BREEAM sustainability award in the industrial buildings category.

Facts and figures

  • Construction of the facility started on February 16, 2016
  • Ground floor space is 50,000 square meters, the equivalent of eight soccer fields
  • Total floor space over three floors: 135,000 square meters
  • Total length of transportation belts: 7 kilometers
  • Expected production at peak times: ~30,000 items per hour

“Every day our customers order tens of thousands products and at peak moments even hundreds of thousands,” said Huub Vermeulen, Brand President of bol.com. “We believe it is very important that our customers can choose from a big assortment of millions of articles and that their orders are delivered to their homes within several hours. With this new fulfillment center we have the ability to grow and innovate in the future and provide our customers with maximum service.”

Huub Vermeulen officially opens the bol.com fulfilment center together with 13-year old Romy, one of our “customers of the future” and representative of bol.com‘s more than 8 million customers

The new facility distinguishes itself by combining fulfillment and sorting orders in one location, as bol.com partners with Dutch mail and package delivery company PostNL. The advantage is that the back-office process of online shopping is more efficient and powerful and customers receive their orders faster. Further, carbon emissions are reduced as less transport is needed to deliver the packages.

The fulfillment center will additionally have a positive effect on the local economy and the availability of jobs, including positions for people with disabilities. Expectations are that it will grow in phases and ultimately employ 2,000 associates every day.

Amazon to open new fulfillment center in Florida

The robotics site will be the tenth Amazon facility in Florida

SEATTLE, 2017-Jun-08 — /EPR Retail News/ — Amazon.com, Inc. (NASDAQ: AMZN) today (Jun. 7, 2017) announced plans for a new fulfillment center in the Sunshine State to be located in Miami. The more than 800,000-square-foot fulfillment center will create over 1,000 full-time jobs with benefits and opportunities to engage with Amazon Robotics in a highly technological workplace.

“Florida has been a bright spot for Amazon operations with its dedicated and talented workforce who have found great, full-time opportunities with us,” said Akash Chauhan, Amazon’s vice president of North America Operations. “This new fulfillment center will join a sortation center and Prime Now hub in the area and we look forward to deepening our ties in the Miami-Dade community.”

Amazon has created more than 4,000 full-time jobs in Florida since first entering the state in 2013. Two new fulfillment centers were recently announced in Jacksonville and with this new facility, the company’s presence will increase to 10 locations, including fulfillment and sortation centers and Prime Now hubs. The new fulfillment center will bring Amazon’s workforce in the Sunshine State to more than 7,500.

Governor Rick Scott said, “I am proud that Amazon has committed to continue investing and creating opportunities across Florida. This facility will create thousands of new jobs and is great news for families in Opa-locka. This announcement is further evidence of the important role of Enterprise Florida and local economic development agencies, and I look forward to seeing Amazon’s ongoing success throughout our state.”

“Miami-Dade County is happy to welcome Amazon’s more than 800,000-square-foot fulfillment center to our world-class community with the opening of the new fulfillment center at Opa-locka Executive Airport,” said Miami-Dade County Mayor Carlos A. Gimenez. “This high-tech project will bring 1,000 full-time jobs to our residents, and serves as further evidence that Miami-Dade is a community where major companies want to grow, invest and do business.”

“I’m excited that we can share with the public the amazing news of Amazon coming to District One at the Miami-Opa locka Executive Airport,” said County Commissioner Barbra Jordan. “The development means thousands of jobs for the area and significant community benefits, spearheaded by the Carrie Meek Foundation. It’s been my pleasure to be involved in a process which will change the face and economic progress of our community and I’d like to thank all the characters involved over the past several years that helped make the Amazon deal possible.”

The new Amazon fulfillment center will be located at The Carrie Meek International Business Park. The Carrie Meek Foundation and Foundry Commercial started working together in 2010, when the two entities came together over a shared vision for creating a stronger South Florida community. Carrie Meek International Business Park is the first public/private partnership of its kind in South Florida, as it will not only strive to create thousands of jobs in the area through the development itself, but will also prepare and assist area residents to take advantage of the new jobs through training provided by The Carrie Meek Foundation.

“The Carrie Meek International Business Park is a unique and special development for all of Miami-Dade County that started as a vision on the part of former U.S. Congresswoman Carrie P. Meek and is now a dream realized,” said Pryse Elam, principal and president of development and investment at Foundry Commercial. “Working collaboratively, Foundry, the Carrie Meek Foundation and Mayor Gimenez’s office have developed one of the largest job creating projects in the history of Miami-Dade County, and we are so honored to be a part of this partnership.”

Employees at the fulfillment center will pick, pack and ship small items to customers such as books, electronics and toys. The facility will feature innovative technology such as Amazon Robotics that will assist employees in fulfilling customer orders.

“Growing and diversifying our economy through job creation is our mission at Enterprise Florida, and we are proud to work with great American companies like Amazon as they expand right here in Florida. It is exciting to see more than 1,000 new-to-Florida jobs create opportunities for Florida families in Opa-locka,” said Chris Hart IV, President and CEO of Enterprise Florida, Inc.

“We are pleased to continue to assist Amazon in bringing a significant amount of jobs to an underserved area in our community. This is our third and largest project with them,” said Miami-Dade Beacon Council President and CEO Michael A. Finney. “Amazon’s decision to add this new fulfillment center illustrates Miami-Dade’s strategic location as a global business hub.”

Full-time employees at Amazon receive competitive hourly wages and a comprehensive benefits package, including healthcare, 401(k) and company stock awards starting on day one. Amazon also offers regular full-time employees maternity and parental leave benefits and access to innovative programs like Career Choice, where it will pre-pay up to 95 percent of tuition for courses related to in-demand fields, regardless of whether the skills are relevant to a career at Amazon. “Amazon’s presence in Fall River and their commitment to create hundreds of new jobs will bring an important economic boost to one of our gateway cities and the surrounding region,” Governor Charlie Baker said. “Our administration is focused on paving the way for more companies to grow and expand in the Commonwealth and increasing economic opportunities available for our residents to succeed.”

Hourly employees at Amazon fulfillment centers also enjoy maternity and paternity leave benefits. These benefits offer up to 20 weeks of paid leave, a flexible Ramp Back Program, and a Leave Share Program that allows employees the ability to share their paid leave with their spouse or partner.

The more than a million-square-foot fulfillment center will be developed by the Trammell Crow Company.

Walmart opens new fulfillment center in Bethlehem, Pa. to support its rapidly growing e-commerce business

New State-of-the-Art Center Brings Nearly 400 New Full-Time Jobs to Bethlehem; Enhances Retailer’s Ability to Deliver Online Orders Faster and at Lower Cost

BETHLEHEM, Pa., 2015-7-24 — /EPR Retail News/ — Walmart today held a sneak preview event at its new fulfillment center in Bethlehem, Pa. The facility, one of two Walmart centers in the Lehigh Valley dedicated to filling online orders, is part of a next-generation network to support the company’s rapidly growing e-commerce business.

The new 1.2 million sq. ft. facility in the Majestic Bethlehem Center, which features state-of-the-art automation and warehousing systems, created nearly 400 full-time jobs in the Lehigh Valley. Roughly 200 additional jobs were created at the second Walmart fulfillment center in the Lehigh Valley Industrial Park VII. Walmart’s combined centers are expected to generate nearly 1,000 new jobs over the next few years.

“We are grateful to the Lehigh Valley for welcoming us with open arms, and we’re proud of the role we’ve played in strengthening this community with the jobs and community support we’re bringing to the area,” said Mike McGraw, general manager of the Bethlehem fulfillment center.

“This project will give workers new opportunities while helping to grow the economy throughout the entire Lehigh Valley,” said Governor Tom Wolf. “New business expansion like this shows why it is such an exciting time to live and work in the growing and vibrant Lehigh Valley community.”

Supporting the Lehigh Valley Community
“I welcome Walmart to the City of Bethlehem and Lehigh Valley Industrial Park VII,” said Bethlehem Mayor Robert Donchez. “I applaud Walmart for its commitment to creating sustainable jobs and strengthening this community.”

The grand-opening celebration featured donations to local organizations, including a $31,000 check to Second Harvest Food Bank of the Lehigh Valley as part of Walmart’s “Fight Hunger. Spark Change.” campaign. Through this initiative, more than $400,000 will be distributed to food banks throughout Pennsylvania this summer.

As part of Walmart’s and the Walmart Foundation’s $2 billion commitment to fight hunger through 2015, Walmart stores in Pennsylvania donated approximately 12.9 million pounds of food, or the equivalent of 10.8 million meals, in fiscal year 2014.

Gov. Wolf and his family have been personally involved in the fight against hunger locally and across Pennsylvania. The governor has donated tens of thousands of dollars to Pennsylvania food banks, and he and his family routinely volunteer time to help out and serve food at local pantries.

New Centers Provide Faster Deliveries at Lower Cost
This new facility is part of a network — Walmart distribution centers, existing e-commerce facilities, 4,500 Walmart stores and a world-class transportation fleet — that ships packages faster and more efficiently, while offering customers more choices for how they want to receive their online orders.

“This Bethlehem facility is part of a dense, multi-faceted network that combines new buildings, existing fulfillment assets, and our portfolio of stores to create thousands of points of distribution,” said Neil Ashe, chief executive officer, Walmart Global eCommerce. “All of these elements working together enhance our ability to get more products to customers faster, at a lower cost, and provide more choices for shoppers.”

bol.com to start the construction of its own fulfillment center in Waalwijk, the Netherlands in 2016

In 2016, bol.com will start the construction of its own fulfillment center in Waalwijk, the Netherlands that will put it in a better position to keep growing and innovating. This expansion will enable customers to choose from an even broader assortment, while they will be able to count on the fastest delivery and the best possible service.

Zaandam, the Netherlands, 2015-7-13 — /EPR Retail News/ — The new fulfillment center, which will have a floor space of some 50,000 square meters, will open its doors in 2017. It is expected to create around 1,000 new jobs in the Waalwijk area. Docdata, bol.com’s current fulfillment partner, will continue to support bol.com at the new location, and will be responsible for HR and day-to-day management, as well as innovation development.

Convenience and choice

“To make sure our customers and partners can keep relying on bol.com as the best online store, continuous growth and innovation are essential,” says Daniel Ropers, Managing Director of bol.com. “We’re always expanding our assortment, and our customers expect fast and reliable delivery. Our current fulfillment center’s capacity is limited. The new center will give us plenty of extra space to keep growing. We’ll also be able to develop even more innovative concepts that maximize convenience and choice for our customers.”

Innovative services

Examples of innovative services already introduced by bol.com are “Vandaag Ophalen” (“Pick up Today”), which allows customers to pick up orders they place before noon on the same day at Albert Heijn stores, and “Logistiek via bol.com” (“Logistics via bol.com”). The latter service makes it possible for bol.com’s selling partners to outsource their stock management and distribution. “Our own fulfillment center enables us to keep expanding innovative services like this,” says Daniel.

Sustainable solutions

The construction of the new fulfillment center will be characterized by sustainable and environmentally friendly choices and solutions, with a focus on energy efficiency and an optimized work climate. For example, the building will make use of recycled water and renewable energy.
