IKEA provides update on impact of Hurricane Harvey

Houston, TX, 2017-Sep-06 — /EPR Retail News/ — As the impact of Hurricane Harvey has unfolded, we have been saddened by its impact on our co-workers and neighbors. But we’ve also been touched by the heroic acts and the community spirit of those involved in the rescue and recovery efforts. As a member of the local community, we believe it’s important for IKEA to be a part of these efforts, too.

At IKEA, we are one big family. And like family, we have come together to support one another. There are over 400 co-workers working in our Houston store and our Baytown Distribution Center. We’ve heard many stories of these co-workers bravely helping one another. We are also supporting our co-workers by:

  • providing temporary housing;
  • continuing to pay all co-workers for the time our Houston locations have been closed;
  • providing financial assistance through our WeCare Co-worker Emergency Relief Fund; and
  • giving co-workers free meals at our staff café for the next two weeks.

The IKEA family also extends into the community. To play our part in helping the community recover, we are working with our partners at the American Red Cross, Save the Children, FEMA and the Houston Food Bank. This includes:

  • creating care packages for the American Red Cross which consist of everyday home items, such as sheets, pillows, towels, and toys to help families get back on their feet;
  • donating products to Save the Children to create child-friendly spaces in rescue centers which enable children to play, socialize, and begin to recover after a disaster;
  • offering FEMA the use of our parking lot as a command center and the IKEA restaurant as a disaster relief station where FEMA workers can meet families in need of assistance; and
  • coordinating a volunteer day at the Houston Food Bank where IKEA co-workers can take part in recovery efforts.

We’re glad to have welcomed our co-workers and customers back into our store on Friday, September 1st. This is part of getting back to the normalcy of our everyday lives. Yet for many of us, our everyday lives continue to be impacted because we must rebuild our homes. PetSmart Charities to help pets and pet parents impacted by Hurricane Harvey

The organization has earmarked at least $1 million in emergency relief funding to help animal welfare agencies who are working on the front lines to rescue, relocate, feed and care for pets that have been left homeless due to the floods. $100,000 grant to SPCA of Texas: PetSmart Charities’ donation will support this animal welfare agency’s ongoing efforts to help pets in need at the Mega Shelter recently opened in Kay Bailey Hutchison Convention Center in Dallas.  Funds will also support the SPCA of Texas as it cares for more than 300 pets who have been surrendered or evacuated.

$75,000 grant to Rescue Bank: Last week Rescue Bank in Houston, Texas received nearly 80,000 pounds of donated pet food generated by PetSmart’s Buy a Bag, Give a Meal™ program. One pallet of food has been delivered to the Houston Convention Center to help feed the pets of people who have arrived in this temporary hurricane shelter. PetSmart Charities’ financial grant will help Rescue Bank to continue to distribute the donated pet food to animal welfare agencies and hurricane shelters in the Houston area.

$50,000 grant to Houston PetSet: As a locally-based nonprofit dedicated to working with animal welfare agencies and rescues, Houston PetSet will use its emergency relief grant from PetSmart Charities to help smaller nonprofits who are assisting with Hurricane Harvey relief efforts and require grants of $5,000 or less.

Providing In-Kind Donations of Pet Food and Supplies:
In addition to providing financial support for animal welfare agencies, PetSmart Charities has allocated two truckloads of donated pet care supplies like collars, leashes, food and water bowls, pet beds, kitty litter and more to help with emergency relief efforts in Texas. Fellow animal welfare agency, Rescue Bank, will deliver these supplies leveraging its fleet of trucks. One truckload is on its way to the SPCA of Texas in Dallas, while the other will soon be arriving in the Houston area. A third truck filled with 50 pallets of donated pet food from PetSmart’s Buy a Bag, Give a Meal program has been rerouted to help feed pets in need in Texas.

McDonald’s supports Hurricane Harvey relief and recovery efforts with $1 million donation to the American Red Cross

DEERFIELD, Ill., 2017-Aug-30 — /EPR Retail News/ — Walgreens is supporting relief efforts in Southeast Texas through a number of initiatives in the aftermath of Hurricane Harvey.

Walgreens is donating food items, first aid and medical equipment including blood pressure cuffs, glucometer strips, catheters and transport wheelchairs to the American Red Cross emergency shelter at the George R. Brown Convention Center in Houston. Walgreens is working with United Airlines to transport the first aid and medical items from Chicago to Houston on a flight with relief supplies.

In preparation for Hurricane Harvey, Walgreens staged portable generators throughout southeast Texas and deployed them to a number of stores. Walgreens provided one of those generators to the City of Victoria, Texas to support its city facilities.

ALDI supports Hurricane Harvey disaster relief efforts with $150,000 donation

National Grocery Retailer Also Distributing 1,000 Disaster Relief Packages to Hard-Hit Areas

CVS Health and the CVS Health Foundation donates $200,000 to support Hurricane Harvey relief efforts

WOONSOCKET, R.I., 2017-Aug-29 — /EPR Retail News/ — CVS Health and the CVS Health Foundation today (August 28, 2017) announced $200,000 in cash and in-kind product donations to organizations helping with relief efforts for those affected by Hurricane Harvey.

Following widespread damage to communities across the coast of Texas, federal officials are anticipating the storm will drive 30,000 people into shelters and spur 450,000 victims to seek some sort of disaster assistance. In response, the CVS Health Foundation has donated $50,000 each to the Greater Houston Community Foundation and the American Red Cross, as well as $25,000 to Salvation Army, to aid the greater Houston area in supporting local residents as they begin the recovery and rebuilding process. CVS Health colleagues are invited to make a donation amount of their choosing, which will be matched by the CVS Health Foundation, up to $25,000.

CVS Pharmacy is continuing to identify how Hurricane Harvey has impacted over 200 locations in the greater Houston region. The company’s mobile pharmacies will be moved into the area once it is safe to do so. Customers will be able to pick up their prescriptions, purchase over-the-counter medications and receive recommended vaccines.

In addition, CVS Health will also donate $25,000 worth of in-kind products including personal hygiene, clean-up and over-the-counter items. The CVS Health Employee Relief Fund is prepared to provide support to colleagues who have been affected by the disaster.

CVS Caremark, the pharmacy benefit management division of CVS Health, is able to provide one-time emergency refills of a 10-day supply of medication for plan members in impacted areas at local pharmacies.

Stanley Black & Decker commits up to $125,000 for immediate Hurricane Harvey disaster relief

MOORESVILLE, N.C., 2017-Aug-28 — /EPR Retail News/ — In response to the widespread devastation caused by Hurricane Harvey in Texas, Lowe’s announced today (Aug. 26, 2017) a $500,000 contribution to American Red Cross Disaster Relief to help the Red Cross provide food, emergency shelter, relief supplies and comfort to those affected by disasters like Hurricane Harvey and countless other crises. Lowe’s is working with its national nonprofit partners to provide both immediate and long-term support to local communities.

Lowe’s has also activated its American Red Cross customer donation program at its Texas stores to provide a convenient place for customers to make a donation. People also can make a contribution online through the Lowe’s American Red Cross Online Donation Site.

Lowe’s Emergency Command Center continues to expedite truckloads of needed clean-up and recovery supplies including generators, bottled water, gas cans, chainsaws, water removal equipment, insect repellant, shovels, rakes and other tools to our Lowe’s stores impacted by the storm.

“Our thoughts and concerns are with those impacted by this storm, including our own Lowe’s employees,” said James Frison, Lowe’s community relations director. “As families begin the difficult recovery process, we want them to know Lowe’s will work closely with the Red Cross and our other partners to support their rebuilding efforts every step of the way.”

Lowe’s employs more than 23,000 people in Texas and in the coming weeks, Lowe’s Heroes volunteers will help with relief and recovery efforts in communities affected by the storm.

Lowe’s is also supporting employees affected by the storm through its Employee Relief Fund which provides financial assistance in times of crisis. Since it was established in 1999, the fund has helped approximately 26,000 employees by providing more than $29 million in financial aid.

As a member of the Red Cross’ Annual Disaster Giving Program, Lowe’s pledges donations on an ongoing basis in advance of disasters to help ensure the Red Cross can take immediate action. Since partnering with the Red Cross in 1999, Lowe’s and its customers have contributed more than $28 million for disaster relief.
