Southeastern Grocers launches private label-Fisherman’s Wharf canned albacore tuna to mark its IPNLF membership

JACKSONVILLE, Fla., 2017-Apr-21 — /EPR Retail News/ — Southeastern Grocers LLC, parent company of BI-LO, Fresco y Más, Harveys and Winn-Dixie grocery stores, has become the first North American retail member of the International Pole & Line Foundation (IPNLF), the non-profit association that is committed to supporting small-scale fisheries that pursue high quality, responsible and ethical tuna caught using one-by-one methods.

To coincide with this announcement, Southeastern Grocers has launched an exclusive private label-Fisherman’s Wharf, pole-and-line, canned albacore tuna product displaying the IPNLF ‘Supporting Member’ logo to demonstrate its commitment to the most environmentally and socially desirable methods. The Fisherman’s Wharf Albacore Tuna is on the shelves of select BI-LO, Fresco y Más, Harveys and Winn-Dixie stores for $2.49 a can.

Through the two-week Wall of Honor community donation campaign, held Nov. 2-15, customers were encouraged to visit their neighborhood BI-LO, Harveys and Winn-Dixie to purchase a $1 Dedication Card and write a special message to their own military hero. These personal dedications built elaborate Wall of Honor displays at each store as visual tributes to those who served, continue to serve and sacrifice for the nation.

K-VA-T to acquire 29 BI-LO stores located in Chattanooga, Tennessee and Northwest Georgia from Southeastern Grocers

ABINGDON, Va. And JACKSONVILLE, Fla., 2015-7-24 — /EPR Retail News/ — K-VA-T Food Stores Inc. and Southeastern Grocers, LLC today announced that they have entered into an agreement under which K-VA-T will acquire 29 BI-LO stores located in Chattanooga, Tennessee and Northwest Georgia from Southeastern Grocers. K-VA-T intends to continue to operate all of these stores under the Food City banner and hire the vast majority of their store associates, retaining their years of service.

“We are extremely excited to have this opportunity to expand our operation into the Chattanooga and Northwest Georgia markets. We certainly look forward to welcoming the BI-LO associates to our Food City family and serving the region,” says Steven C. JACKSONVILLE, Fla., 2015-7-20 — /EPR Retail News/ — Through a combination of customer and vendor donations and all profits earned at BI-LO, Harveys and Winn-Dixie grocery stores on Saturday, July 4th, Southeastern Grocers announced today that it will donate $3,044,091.38 to support the Wounded Warrior Project® (WWP) Independence Program (IP), which helps warriors live life fully, on their own terms.

The donation funds were raised through contributions made in BI-LO, Harveys, and Winn-Dixie stores during checkout, as well as on each organization’s dedicated website. Additionally, on Saturday, July 4th, every penny in profit earned at Southeastern Grocers’ nearly 790 stores was donated. One hundred percent of the funds raised will support WWP’s Independence Program, which provides personalized plans that target each warrior’s needs or interests, allowing them to live as independently as possible. These individualized plans are developed at no cost to the Warrior.

Bi-Lo Holdings names Ian McLeod President and Chief Executive Officer, effective March 2, 2015

JACKSONVILLE, Fla., 2015-1-26 — /EPR Retail News/ — Bi-Lo Holdings, parent company of BI-LO, Harveys and Winn-Dixie grocery stores, today announced that Ian McLeod has been appointed President and Chief Executive Officer, effective March 2, 2015. Mr. McLeod succeeds Randall Onstead, who will remain in place through March 2, 2015, to ensure a smooth transition. The Bi-Lo Holdings Board of Directors noted: “Ian is a proven leader with more than 30 years of expertise and a strong track record of driving profitable growth. In his time running over 2,200 Coles food, liquor and convenience stores, which employs 100,000 associates across Australia and includes over 760 full-service supermarkets, he led a major turnaround in that business, improving the quality and value of products as well as the service and store standards offered to customers. Ian significantly increased sales from AUD$28.8 billion to AUD$37.4 billion (USD$23.2 billion to USD$35.2 billion)1, doubling profits (earnings before interest and tax) during six years and outperforming in the market for 20 consecutive quarters. We are confident he will be instrumental in driving continued growth and success at Bi-Lo Holdings as we execute our strategy and work to further enhance our customers’ shopping experience.”

Mr. McLeod previously served as Group Commercial Director for Wesfarmers Group, one of Australia’s largest listed companies and one of its largest employers with diverse business operations, including supermarkets, discount department stores, home improvement and office supplies, coal production and export, chemicals, energy and fertilizers, and industrial and safety products. Wesfarmers Group acquired the Australian retail group Coles in late 2007 and appointed Mr. McLeod as Managing Director to lead the challenging turnaround of the Company, consisting of over 2,200 food, liquor and convenience stores, including over 760 supermarkets, 800 liquor stores and 640 gas stations across Australia. Prior to Coles, Mr. McLeod was Chief Executive Officer of Halfords Group Plc, a British retail chain specializing in car parts, cycling products and outdoor leisure goods. Previously, Mr. McLeod spent 20 years with ASDA supermarkets, a British supermarket group acquired by Wal-Mart in 1999, where he was a member of the U.K. Management Board and also spent 12 months as a member of the Executive Board of Wal-Mart Germany. Mr. McLeod attended the Harvard Business School AMP program in 1999 and was awarded an Honorary Doctorate in Scotland in 2010 for services to Business and Retail.
