Pasticceria Marchesi opens at Galleria Vittorio Emanuele II; its third store in Milan

Milan, 2016-Sep-07 — /EPR Retail News/ — Pasticceria Marchesi opens a third shop in the heart of Milan in Galleria Vittorio Emanuele II, an emblematic symbol of the city. The new venue, located on the mezzanine floor of the building that houses Prada’s Men’s store, can be accessed by stairs or elevator both from the Galleria arcade and the Prada Men’s boutique.

After the opening of the Prada menswear store, the inauguration of the Marchesi pastry shop is the second phase of a major project in which the prestigious Galleria location of Prada Group will become a genuine hub of its many facets, where fashion, food, art and a wide range of cultural activities will harmoniously coexist.

The new Marchesi shop covering an area of 250 square metres reinterprets the atmosphere and allure of its historic shop on Via Santa Maria alla Porta, Milan. Its striking ambiance with several arched windows overlooks the splendid frescoes and mosaic pavements of the Galleria.

The green Venetian plaster walls are covered in part by floral silk jacquard tone-on-tone fabric, with glass-shelf display cases dedicated to Marchesi specialties. Cherry wood and crystal shelves are topped by large mirrors. The green alpine marble floors and the ceilings with exposed wooden beams, consistent with the image and tradition of the pastry shop, reflect the original style and spirit of the historic shop on Via Santa Maria alla Porta, recreating in the new space of the Galleria an elegant atmosphere that has been characteristic of Marchesi for over 150 years.

Like the Marchesi shop on Via Monte Napoleone, part of the space in the new store is used as an elegant tea room which serves a variety of dishes throughout the day: breakfast, lunch, tea, and an evening aperitif.

Citycon’s Iso Omena shopping centre opens first phase of extension

Citycon’s Iso Omena shopping centre opens first phase of extension Citycon’s Iso Omena shopping centre opens first phase of extension

Helsinki,  Finland, 2016-Aug-13 — /EPR Retail News/ — Once the total extension project is completed in 2017, Iso Omena will have a GLA of over 100,000 square metres, offering premises for over 200 different shops, restaurants and service units. This will make Iso Omena one of the largest shopping centres in Finland. A total of approximately 60 new shops, restaurants and service units will be opened in the first phase with an additional 40 units opening in the second phase. Tenants have shown a strong interest in the premises of Iso Omena, 95 percent of the GLA in the first phase has already been leased.

The extension will significantly increase the offering of fashion, entertainment, restaurants and services available at Iso Omena. In the first phase, retail brands such as Superdry, BikBok, Brothers, Gina Tricot, Carlings, Björn Borg, Peak Performance and Efva Attling will open new stores. H&M will also open an extended 3,000 square metre store in the new part of the shopping centre.

One of the unique features of the new Iso Omena is the extensive restaurant concept M.E.E.T (meet, eat, enjoy, together) that is the first of its kind in Finland. M.E.E.T will be opened in two phases, now and in the spring 2017, and when completed it will include 40 different restaurants. The new restaurant world can be compared to the Helsinki City Centre when it comes to the diversity of the offering. New restaurants to be introduced in Iso Omena in the first phase include e.g. artisan pasta restaurant Makaronitehdas, Goodwin steak house, the Mexican style restaurant Eatos and viking restaurant Harald. The selection of cafés will also grow: additions include La Torrefazione, Choco lab, and the Choux Company.

The third floor of the shopping centre will house a service square for the City of Espoo, a novel concept for providing public services. The service square will be bringing a library, a health centre and other public services together into a single space of 6,000 square metres. The accessibility of the municipal and healthcare services will significantly improve for the residents in the area with the extended opening hours and increased traffic connections.

New additions for the second phase include a seven screen Finnkino cinema, Zara, and a large selection of different restaurants, as well as various shops and services targeted at families and children. Iso Omena’s current grocery stores Prisma and Citymarket, recently renovated in spring 2016, will be joined by grocery store Lidl, which will be opened on the same level.

“Iso Omena’s selection is unique in Finland. In addition to a strong fashion offering and other specialty shops, we have a diverse selection of restaurants, entertainment and both public and private services. The quality of architecture and building materials has been in focus in the shopping centre extension project. Iso Omena is about much more than just buying things: it offers the surrounding community a place for spending time and socialising,” explains Sanna Yliniemi, Commercial Director at Citycon.

The final station of the first phase of the western metro line and the feeder bus terminal will be located under Iso Omena. They will strengthen the role of Iso Omena as a significant traffic hub for all of southern Espoo with an expected 35,000 daily commuters. In addition to excellent public transport connections, Iso Omena will have 3,000 parking spaces.

The Iso Omena shopping centre has been awarded a LEED® Platinum certificate for its extension, the highest rating level within the environmental certification system.

Citycon takes over full ownership of Iso Omena

For the first phase of the Iso Omena extension, NCC Property Development acted as Citycon´s development partner with a 50 per cent stake of the total investment. In accordance with the agreement, Citycon purchased NCC Property Development’s share for approximately EUR 80 million. Citycon is now the sole owner of the Iso Omena shopping centre.

“Citycon’s strategy is to focus on owning and managing shopping centres in urban areas in growing cities. Iso Omena’s location is excellent: Matinkylä is an important public transportation hub with strong purchasing power in one of the fastest growing residential areas in Finland. Iso Omena meets all of Citycon’s investment criteria and is expected to provide strong growth also in the future,” says Nils Styf, Chief Investment Officer at Citycon.

Prada opens 670-square meter space store at the GUM Mall in Moscow

Moscow, Russia, 2016-Aug-05 — /EPR Retail News/ — Fashion is an experience in intimacy. The relationship between garment and wearer creates a personal narrative informed by texture and color, contrast and complement. Garments toy with perception – who we are, who we will be – realized in the way we dress. The Prada store at the GUM Mall in Moscow has evolved into a new constellation of intimate rooms featuring the Men’s and Women’s collections. The new experience embraces femininity and masculinity, light, texture, color, all within the two- level, 670-square meter space.

Overlooking Moscow’s Red Square, the new store features large windows that convey the interior spaces to the passers-by. Marble, velvet, and glass invite customers into the luxurious space. The interior preserves the original GUM vaulted ceiling, while the Prada’s classic black-and-white chequered marble floor pays homage to the original boutique in the Galleria Vittorio Emanuele II in Milan. Comprising elegant rooms and retail salons, the store is replete with signature Prada colors and textures: velvet, marble, glass, in the familiar Encausto Green.

Prada at the GUM Mall embodies the twinned contradictions of the Prada brand. The retail experience is an investigation of space, culminating in the moments generated in grand rooms and unique salons. The intense design, detailing, and materiality reflect Prada’s century long commitment to craftsmanship and luxury since Mario Prada founded his first shop in Milan in 1913. Luxury and care are integral to the Prada GUM experience, manifested in the typology of highly crafted intimacy. Prada’s focus remains, as always, on customer service: the comfort, surprise, and delight of the customer is paramount.

SPAR Austria opens new state-of-the-art logistics centre in Ebergassing, Austria

The existing SPAR warehouse located in the town of St. Polten had become too small to efficiently supply the growing number of SPAR stores in Vienna. Recognizing that this would only become more difficult over time, SPAR Austria invested in a new state-of-the-art logistics centre in the area of Ebergassing (Lower Austria) in co-operation with the Austrian logistics supplier Knapp.

Vienna, Austria, 2016-Jul-15 — /EPR Retail News/ — The construction of the most modern logistics centre in Europe took two years to realize and an investment of €85 million. On 11 June 2016, the official opening of the new distribution centre was celebrated in the presence of Federal Minister Dr. Hans Jörg Schelling and 500 guests. The population of Ebergassing and surroundings will be invited to visit the centre in spring 2017, when it will be fully operational. This investment has resulted in the creation of 150 new jobs in the area.

SPAR Austria Board Member, Friedrich Poppmeier, who is in charge of logistics, explains the objectives behind the new centre: “To achieve local supply at the highest level, perfect processes have to be applied. SPAR is a leader in innovation and has always invested in new technologies in the area of logistics. Innovation supporting the security of supply and the support of our SPAR retailers in their day-to-day work is an ongoing investment within SPAR Austria. The SPAR logistics centre Ebergassing has become a model operation!”

Unique worldwide innovations
The new facility is currently one of the most innovative and sustainable logistics centres in the world. Some of the technologies which have been incorporated are being used for the first time. They were developed in co-operation with logistics supplier Knapp.

Gerald Hofer, CEO of Knapp AG, explains: “Based on SPAR’s industry knowledge and Knapp’s technology know-how, we jointly developed a completely new picking method, improving management of peaks, the reduction of investment and offering employees an ergonomic working environment. We are particularly proud of specially developed workplaces and the initial use of ‘swarm intelligence’ in the form of freely navigating shuttles. This innovation will set new standards worldwide and create jobs in Austria.”

Sustainability & Social Responsibility
Right at the start of construction in May 2015, it was clear that this logistics centre is a great example of the inclusion of many elements focused on sustainability. The centre has already been pre-certified with the ÖGNI certificate in platinum by the Austrian Society for Sustainable Real Estate (ÖGNI). The official ceremony recognizing this achievement will take place in the autumn of 2016.

To celebrate opening day, Whole Foods Market will host its version of a ribbon cutting called a “Bread-Breaking Ceremony” with Whole Foods Market Team Members and Hyde Park neighbors beginning at 8:45 a.m. Doors open and shopping officially begins at 9 a.m. The first 500 customers through the doors will receive a Whole Foods Market Gift Card with a mystery value between $5 and $50. One customer will receive a $500 gift card.

During the ceremony, The Oriental Institute will receive a $25,000 Healthy Kids Innovation grant from Whole Kids Foundation in partnership with United Health Foundation.

Whole Foods Market’s dedication to quality and service extends beyond the bricks and mortar of the store.

Whole Foods Market’s new store in Hyde Park will also empower Team Members and customers to support local causes. Several times a year, the store will hold community giving days, also known as “5% Days,” where 5 percent of a select day’s sales will be donated to a local nonprofit or educational organization. In celebration of the new location, the store will hold five “Days of Community Giving,” where 1 percent of each day’s sales will go towards five area organizations:

  • Hyde Park Art Center
  • Hyde Park Jazz Society
  • Hyde Park Neighborhood Club
  • Experimental Station
  • Hyde Park Historical Society

Another way Whole Foods Market will support the Hyde Park community is through its One Dime at a Time program which provides an incentive to customers who bring their own bags for shopping and helps develop stronger communities.  At the register, customers will have the option to receive a 10-cent per bag refund as cash back off their purchase or they can choose to donate it to that month’s selected charity organization. Whole Foods Market Hyde Park’s first One Dime at a Time recipient will be 62 Garden.
