New augmented reality app to visualize dishes in restaurant menus in 3D format

Harald Xperience logo

HELSINKI, Finland, 2018-Mar-14 — /EPR Retail News/ — Harald Xperience Ltd. is the first company in Finland to introduce an application with AR aimed to enhance the customer experience in restaurants. The application called EatX allows the customer to visualize the various dishes in 3D format by moving a smartphone or tablet on different items on the menu.

According to Jaana Kettunen, producer and CEO of Harald Xperience, EatX brings the restaurant experience to a whole new level. The customer sees the dish together with additional information, which makes it easier to decide what to order. Kettunen reveals that EatX will be launched at the trade fair for the restaurant and catering industry in Helsinki, 14-16 March 2018.

The menu of the restaurant “På Kroken”, created by chef Magnus Ekström, will be used as an example, including a 3D presentation of the dessert served at the prestigious Nobel banquet.

Kai Lindevall, producer and chairman of the board, points out the almost limitless potential of AR technology in the field of consumer goods, events and entertainment: “You can get any product to ‘speak’ and tell its story.”

Lindevall says the next AR application of Harald Xperience will target the hotel industry, helping hotel guests to access useful information in a natural and unique way by using AR. The needs of families with children will also be addressed.

Chick-fil-A to open new restaurant in Midtown Manhattan on March 1

Chick-fil-A to open new restaurant in Midtown Manhattan on March 1

NEW YORK, 2018-Feb-14 — /EPR Retail News/ — Next month, the third locally-owned and operated Chick-fil-A restaurant will open in Midtown Manhattan. The restaurant, located across from Grand Central Station at the corner of East 42nd Street and Madison Avenue, will open on Thursday, March 1 and will employ more than 200 team members under the leadership of local franchise owner Ellie Kim. Kim will celebrate the opening by hosting Chick-fil-A’s signature First 100 campout in the Bank of America Winter Village at Bryant Park.

Locally Owned and Operated

Kim is a first-generation Korean immigrant who moved to the city with her family at age 16. She graduated from New York University and Rutgers Law School, and later practiced as a law clerk in Manhattan for several years before owning a dry-cleaning business in the Theatre District. She spent the past 11 years in Washington, D.C., where she owned a Chick-fil-A franchise, and recently relocated back to NYC with her family to open Chick-fil-A Grand Central.

Quick, Easy and Efficient Service
Kim’s Midtown restaurant is expected to be one of the busiest Chick-fil-A locations in the country given its proximity to Grand Central Station, which serves more than 750,000 commuters each day. To meet demand, Chick-fil-A designed the restaurant to handle extreme volume. Utilizing the company’s proprietary “upstream ordering” technology, team members will take orders on tablets as soon as guests walk through the doors – ensuring a shorter queue time.

In addition to efficiency, the 6,263-square foot restaurant is also designed for comfort. More than 100 guests can dine on the second level with views of Grand Central Station and One Vanderbilt, a 1.7 million-square-foot skyscraper in development that, once completed, will bring thousands more people to the area each day.

This will be the company’s third location in Manhattan and will be followed by the opening of Chick-fil-A Fulton Street, a five-story restaurant with a rooftop terrace located next to Fulton Center Station in the Financial District.

The Chick-fil-A First 100 Celebration
Chick-fil-A Grand Central will officially open for business at 6:30 a.m. on Thursday, March 1 following its signature First 100 campout and celebration, taking place for the first time in the Bank of America Winter Village at Bryant Park. The First 100 celebration will transform the Winter Village into a 12-hour indoor campout where participants will be awarded a year’s worth of free Chick-fil-A (52 No. 1 meals total). To be eligible, participants must be 18 years or older, U.S. residents with a valid government-issued photo ID, and reside in eligible zip codes. Participants must arrive at Bryant Park to register no earlier than 5:30 p.m. on Wednesday, Feb. 28. If more than 100 people are on-site when the campout officially begins at 6 p.m., a drawing will be held to select the First 100. Those chosen will be required to stay for the duration of the 12-hour campout until the Grand Central restaurant opens at 6:30 a.m. on March 1 in order to receive the prize.

Due to limited space and the indoor nature of the campout, tents are not permitted and personal items should be limited to one item such as a backpack or purse. Chairs and blankets will be provided to all campers.

This event is open to guests residing in specific zip codes surrounding the Grand Central restaurant, inclusive of all zip codes in the five boroughs of NYC. A complete listing of eligible zip codes, Official Rules and other important details can be found at www.chick-fil-a.com/Locations/Openings in the Grand Central section.

Chick-fil-A announces grand opening date of its first restaurant in Oregon

ATLANTA, 2016-Mar-09 — /EPR Retail News/ — Chick-fil-A, Inc. announced today the grand opening date of its first freestanding restaurant in Oregon. The restaurant, located at 2855 NW Town Center Drive in the Tanasbourne neighborhood of Hillsboro, Ore. is set to open Thursday, March 31. Formally named Chick-fil-A at Tanasbourne, the restaurant will be independently owned and operated by local resident Brian Hogan.

Locally Owned and Operated

Hogan is a fifth generation Oregonian and recently returned to the Hillsboro area with his wife, Jaclyn, to open the franchise just three miles down the road from his childhood home on Hennig Street. He is a long-time Chick-fil-A team member, having started with the company at age 16 after moving to Charlotte, N.C. During his 10 years as a team member, Hogan worked in all areas of the restaurant, and even served as a trainer for new franchise owners and team members across the country. He pursued the path to becoming a Chick-fil-A franchisee soon after graduating from UNC Charlotte with a degree in Organizational Communication by entering Chick-fil-A’s Interim Manager program. In the program, Hogan spent 18 months managing Chick-fil-A restaurants in Louisiana, Illinois, Wyoming, North Carolina, South Carolina and Alabama. After building his career with Chick-fil-A, he is excited to return to his hometown to open Oregon’s first Chick-fil-A restaurant.

“I’m so glad to be back in my hometown with my family, and I can believe we’ll be opening the doors to our restaurant in one month,” Hogan says.  “Everyone has been so welcoming since I’ve moved back to Hillsboro, and I’m ready to repay that hospitality when we’re open for business. I hope community members will visit our restaurant to experience the great food and service that we’re known for, and to see what we’re all about.”

Fresh, Regionally Sourced Food

Chick-fil-A is known for its menu of fresh, hand-crafted food and offers a variety of options for guests. Chick-fil-A sources all potatoes used to make hash browns and Waffle Potato Fries from the Columbia River Basin – buying more than 438 million pounds of potatoes last year alone. Additionally, all of the apples used to supply Chick-fil-A’s West Region restaurants are grown in the Pacific Northwest, sourcing more than 2.25 million pounds of apples from the region each year. Chick-fil-A is also collaborating with national and regional poultry suppliers to ensure it serves chicken raised without antibiotics in all its restaurants nationwide by 2019.

Sustainable Design

Chick-fil-A announces grand opening date of its first restaurant in Oregon

Darden Restaurants completed its previously announced spin-off of select real estate and restaurant assets into Four Corners Property Trust, Inc.

Company will reduce approximately $1 billion in debt and affirms combined DRI and FCPT annualized dividend is expected to be at least $2.20 per share

ORLANDO, Fla., 2015-11-10 — /EPR Retail News/ — Darden Restaurants, Inc. (NYSE: DRI) (“Darden”) announced today that it successfully completed its previously announced spin-off of select real estate and restaurant assets into Four Corners Property Trust, Inc. (NYSE: FCPT) (“FCPT”).  FCPT has become an independent, public company that intends to elect and qualify to be treated as a real estate investment trust (REIT) effective January 1, 2016.

Under the terms of the spin-off, Darden shareholders received one common share of FCPT for every three shares of Darden common stock held as of the record date, which was the close of business on November 2, 2015.  Darden shareholders will receive cash in lieu of fractional FCPT shares.  The spin-off is expected to be tax-free to Darden shareholders.  Darden has received opinions from Skadden, Arps, Slate, Meagher & Flom LLP and KPMG LLP that the spin-off will qualify as tax-free and has received a private letter ruling from the Internal Revenue Service on certain issues relevant to the qualification of the spin-off as tax-free.

In connection with the spin-off, Darden received cash proceeds from FCPT of $315 million, which it anticipates using, together with cash on hand, to retire approximately $1 billion in debt in the near future while maintaining its investment grade credit profile.

“Our successful spin-off of FCPT significantly advances Darden’s commitment to deliver value to shareholders,” said CEO Gene Lee. “Additionally, this transaction makes Darden stronger financially, with an improved capital structure and less debt.”

FCPT shares will commence trading on November 10, 2015, on the New York Stock Exchange under the symbol “FCPT.”  Darden will continue to trade on theNew York Stock Exchange under the symbol “DRI.”

With the transaction complete, Darden expects the total combined dividend received by holders of Darden and FCPT will be at least equivalent to Darden’s current dividend of $2.20 per annum.  This will include FCPT’s expected annualized dividend of $1.35 per share which, as a result of the ratio of one share of FCPT common stock for every three shares of Darden common stock, would be equivalent to $0.45 per Darden share, plus at least $1.75 per share paid by Darden.

Minimum Aggregate Annualized Dividend Per Share (DPS)
DRI Annualized DPS – Pre Spin ($0.55 per quarter) $2.20
Minimum DRI Annualized DPS – Post Spin ($0.4375 per quarter) $1.75
FCPT Annualized DPS ($1.35, adjusted for 1:3 spin ratio) $0.45
Minimum Aggregate DRI and FCPT annualized DPS – Post Spin $2.20

The declaration and payment of any future dividends will continue to be at the discretion of the Board of Directors and will be dependent upon Darden’s financial position, results of operations, available cash, cash flow, capital requirements and other factors deemed relevant by the Board.

Darden’s previously announced shareholder rights plan has expired as a result of the spin-off.  Stockholders are not required to take any action as a result of this expiration.  In addition, as previously announced, FCPT CEO Bill Lenehan has resigned his seat on Darden’s Board of Directors now that the spin-off is complete.

Darden was represented in the spin-off by Skadden, Arps, Slate, Meagher & Flom LLP and Hogan Lovells US LLP.  J.P. Morgan and Moelis & Company served as financial advisers.
