New And Innovative Offers to Passengers With SSP and Dusseldorf Airport Partnership

New And Innovative Offers to Passengers With SSP and Dusseldorf Aiport Partnership

Eschborn, 2017-Mar-21 — /EPR Retail News/ — Since the beginning of the year, visitors at Düsseldorf Airport have been able to enjoy a completely new food and beverage concept. As new main tenant, SSP, the Food Travel Experts, is opening seven new gastronomic units and, together with Düsseldorf airport, is focusing on growth. With individually tailored concepts and a wide range of strong brands, SSP successfully competed in the selection process against other leading players in the market.

An important part of the expansion is the highly modern conference centre “DUSconference plus”. From May, passengers and visitors to the airport, as well as local companies, will be able to conduct large conferences, work creatively in small groups or simply answer e-mails in a calm environment.

Ilse Ruffer, Vice President Business Unit Customer Management at the Airport, explained; “Over 3,000 square meters, we offer everything necessary for conferences, events and working on the move. Together with SSP, we have developed a state-of-the-art conference centre that offers the ideal space for any kind of communication – whether in large groups of up to 320 people, in pairs or alone at one of the workstations. Located in the middle of the terminal, the ‘DUSconference plus’ is very flexible. It offers a contemporary environment, a convenient location, and in places direct views over the airfield. If visitors are hungry, food can also be personally arranged and delivered from any of our SSP outlets.”

Working exclusively with a view of the airfield

From the conference centre, travellers are within a minute of the check-in desk. With optimal connection and various catering options, flexible work areas are available for a total of 740 people. There are 10 conference and meeting rooms, 15 boardrooms, a web corner and plug-in workstations as well as three foyers for business meetings or events and exhibitions.

Jan-Henrik Andersson, Chief Commercial Officer SSP DACH commented; As Germany’s third-largest airport and the key hub in NRW, Düsseldorf Airport is an important partner for us, and we have already working closely and successfully with the team here for a number of years. As operators of the conference centre, in partnership with Düsseldorf airport, we are delighted to be building on this successful partnership.”

New gastronomic concepts

SSP has opened a Jamie’s Deli and Jamie’s Deli Van. Alongside this, there is also the popular Hausmann’s restaurant from Patrick Rüther and his partner the well-known TV Chef Tim Mälzer, which is also new to the airport. Famous and well-established in the region are French café and patisserie épi and 4Cani. épi combines the craftsmanship of a French bakery and patisserie with the hospitality of a café, 4Cani brings the flavours of Italy to Germany. Directly in front of the check-in desks serving eastern Mediterranean destinations, visitors will find Mosaic. This concept was developed by SSP especially for Düsseldorf Airport and offers a dash of the culinary arts of the Middle East. The offer will be completed with the opening of KFC in March as well as another bar in 2019.

The conference centre is perfectly complemented by the new gastronomic offers. In addition to the self-service snacks in the Welcome & Work area, the entire SSP brand portfolio can be accessed from the boardrooms and conference rooms. Catering can therefore be adapted according to taste and needs: whether budget-oriented or sophisticated, or whether as an order from the menu or included in the conference package.

Before the opening of “DUSconference plus” and the new units, SSP was already present at the airport with a Caffè Ritazza and two Kamps bakeries. In relation to new business, SSP expects a total turnover of 112 million euros over the term of the contract.

He commented; ‘The Smart Departure Gate opening is another moment to be celebrated following the conversion work and the introduction of our new brand image. It is our way of taking into account the airport’s continued growth and its significance as a pillar of the regional economy. We are now offering passengers an airside area in which they can feel at home before a flight to one of 20 international destinations. We are especially delighted to have SSP as a long-standing, reliable partner and foodservice specialist who admirably reconciles international expertise with a local grounding and who understands our vision for the future. Jamie Oliver’s newest restaurant concept and his first restaurant opening in Norway, Jamie’s Deli serves rustic ‘Jamie-style’ food that’s fast, honest and responsibly sourced. Provenance is a priority, and, for example the new brand serves meat that is always higher welfare and traceable to a sustainable source as well as fish that is also always traceable to a sustainable source. Fresh produce is sourced as locally as possible.

Catering for all types of customers, Jamie’s Deli offers plenty of healthy balanced choices, as well as occasional treats such as freshly baked pastries. A smoothie station provides fresh drinks, blended to order. Customers can choose to eat in or take away, enjoying the same high quality whether they sit down and dine or grab and go. An informal and friendly environment gives passengers an experience that suits them perfectly, whatever the time of day. Hot food displays, a pizza oven and open kitchens add a little theatre to the visit.

“Jamie Oliver is one of the world’s best known chefs and his name is instantly recognisable here in Norway,” says Morten Solberg Nilsen, managing director of SSP Norway. “This new deli, which has been specifically designed to meet the needs of the airport passenger from breakfast time to late in the evening, will be very popular with passengers at Oslo, and will be the perfect complement to the excellent range of brands SSP will be offering at this important travel location.”

Torgeir Kjos Sørensen, Commercial Director at Avinor Oslo airport, was similarly enthusiastic about the prospects for the new brand. “We are excited to welcome Jamie Oliver to Oslo Airport. We are certain this will be well received, and are looking forward to further strengthening the food and beverage offer at the airport.”

SSP will open a Jamie’s Italian restaurant at the airport in April next year as part of the next stages of the development. A Ritazza coffee shop also opened on 1st November.

Avinor Oslo airport is Norway’s leading international airport.

SSP will also be opening Jamie’s Deli at Dusseldorf Airport in early 2017.

SSP brings LEON to Liverpool Street Station

LONDON, 2016-Sep-23 — /EPR Retail News/ — Naturally Fast Food chain LEON launches its new menu today [Wednesday 21 September].

The autumn menu includes an exclusive new dish, made in collaboration with professional chef, food writer and TV presenter, Gizzi Erskine. Rooted in their shared passion for satisfying nutritious recipes, and keen to create a fun new menu item together, the LEON X Gizzi Chicken Satay Salad takes inspiration from Gizzi’s cookbook Gizzi’s Healthy Appetite and proves that it is possible for fast food to be good food created by chefs.

It has also opened its new Liverpool Street Station store, the first to be opened by franchise partners SSP. The partners signed a deal earlier this year which will see LEON bring its fun, fresh and fast food to additional new sites in railway stations across the UK.

The chain’s commitment to helping everyone eat well, live well and eat more plants is borne out by the addition of three new vegan items to the menu (coconut bircher, black bean and avocado pot and sweet potato falafel salad). This comes as LEON’s Vegan Superclean Quinoa Salad scooped the Best Vegan Salad award at Peta UK’s Vegan Food Awards.

The Gizzi satay salad comprises a sweet potato, carrot and daikon spiralised salad, topped with LEON’s chargrilled chicken and finished with a punchy pot of satay sauce. A generous sprinkling of LEON’s toasted seeds is added last for extra crunch.

For those reluctant to abandon meat eating entirely, the new menu will include Pulled Ham Black Bean [LEON’s current black bean dish with ham added] and Sicilian Chicken Meatball Salad.

Excited for the launch of the brand new dish, CEO John Vincent says, “I love working with people that I love working with. Gizzi cares about and enjoys food as much as us, and has always believed as we do that food can both taste good and do you good. We’ve found a soulmate – together we’re going to create the next chapter in the future of fast food.”

Gizzi adds: “I’ve always loved LEON, and working with them to turn my recipe into a quick and healthy dish has been so much fun. There have been so many unexpected obstacles – from sourcing affordable ingredients without compromising quality, to making the method simple enough to serve the dish within thirty seconds across thirty-eight stores. I’ve really enjoyed coming up with innovative solutions to these challenges, and I’m really proud of what we’ve created together and the fact it’s available for all LEON lovers. We’re working on more exciting projects this year, so watch this space.”

Simon Smith, CEO of SSP UK said: “We are delighted to be bringing this great brand to passengers at London Liverpool Street as well as those who live and work in the local area. Offering a fresh take on the concept of ‘fast food’ Leon is a brand that will undoubtedly prove popular with SSP’s customers and our clients. “

SSP to open its first Ed’s Easy Diner at London’s Liverpool Street Station

LONDON, 2016-Sep-09 — /EPR Retail News/ — SSP, a leading operator of food and beverage brands in travel locations worldwide, is set to open its first Ed’s Easy Diner at London’s Liverpool Street Station. The new restaurant is scheduled to open this month.

Launching over a quarter of a century ago Ed’s Easy Diner welcomed its first customers in London’s Soho, bringing a flavour of 1950’s America to the capital. With its shiny chrome fittings, red and white signature colour scheme and neon signage Ed’s quickly became a must-visit on the itinerary of locals and tourists alike. To the classic Diner experience – a quick bite, reliable food, sassy service and customers always remembered – Ed’s added fun and nostalgia.

“We are pleased to welcome Ed’s Easy Diner to Liverpool Street as part of another major Network Rail retail development,” said Hamish Kiernan, Commercial Director at Network Rail. “Ed’s is one of the fastest growing Casual Dining formats in the UK and their franchise partnership with SSP is a perfect combination to drive operating success in the more complex station environment. We believe Ed’s will be a welcome addition to our Liverpool Street portfolio, providing locals and station users a unique US-style diner experience.”

Simon Smith, CEO of SSP UK was similarly upbeat about the prospects for the new Diner. “Ed’s is a much-loved brand that has a truly unique personality and a stand-out style that captures the imagination. It will be the perfect complement to the wide choice of bars restaurants, cafes and shops that visitors to Liverpool Street will be able to enjoy.”

CEO of Ed’s Easy Diner, Andrew Guy comments: “We are delighted to be embarking on the expansion of Ed’s and our first station opening, working with experienced partners SSP. Dwell time at train stations is certainly increasing and with a daily footfall of 180,000 people, we’re confident the Liverpool Street Diner will be a success. Together with SSP, we’ll aim to open 10 more Diners by the summer of 2020 in UK stations, airports and visitor attractions.”

In addition to Ed’s Easy Diner, SSP will also open a new Mi Casa Burritos, and, as previously announced, a Leon restaurant. The company currently operates 12 units in Liverpool Street and the brands it operates include M&S Simply Food, Delice de France, The Pasty Shop, Camden food co., The Merchant, Whistlestop, and Starbucks. SSP opened two new outlets at Cardiff Airport

LONDON, 2016-May-24 — /EPR Retail News/ — SSP, a leading operator of food and beverage brands in travel locations worldwide, has opened two new outlets at Cardiff Airport following the agreement of a new five-year deal.

The Beer House, one of the company’s most successful premium pub concepts, made its first appearance in London in 2011, and today there are eight Beer House bars at airports and rail stations across the UK. Each Beer House shines a spotlight on the foods of the region it serves, and the new bar and restaurant at Cardiff Airport is no exception. The menu features a number of locally sourced ingredients including Welsh beef burger as well as favourite dishes for which the region is renowned such as Welsh Rarebit. The menu is complemented by an excellent selection of local craft ales from Welsh breweries, including Tiny Rebel and Brains. Decorated in true patriotic-style and with walls adorned with images of iconic landmarks of Cardiff and Wales, the bar highlights the very best of the city the airport serves. A zoned approach provides a comfortable environment for all – whether it’s friends or families heading on holiday, or business people flying from Wales’ national airport.

Ritazza is the perfect place to escape the hustle and bustle of the departure lounge – a haven for those seeking a place to relax and revive, enjoy great coffee, and perhaps a light bite to eat. The brand is inspired by cosmopolitan and multicultural European café culture, where coffee is less of a caffeine hit and more of an opportunity to regenerate.

Commenting on the new opening Simon Smith, CEO of SSP UK, said the new outlets will help Cardiff Airport achieve its aspirations to offer an even higher quality experience to its passengers. “Beer House and Ritazza are great brands that have real resonance with the travelling consumer. We have been working with the team here at Cardiff Airport since 2002, and we are delighted to be building on this long and successful relationship.”

Debra Barber, Managing Director and Chief Operating Officer at Cardiff Airport, added: “We’ve been making significant improvements to the overall customer experience for some time now, and the addition of these new facilities really complements the terminal’s offering.

“Cardiff Airport is in an exciting phase in its development with consistent passenger growth, so it’s essential to provide facilities that meet the needs of our leisure and business customer base. I’m sure passengers will like the food and drinks now on offer and will enjoy sampling some iconic Welsh products at Wales’ national airport.”

The initial five-year deal will allow LEON to bring its fun, fresh and fast food to an additional number of railway station sites across the UK.

It is expected the first Leon stores operated by SSP will open later this year at London’s Liverpool Street station and in Paddington station.

Guests at LEON stores, run in partnership with SSP, will get the same warm welcome that they do in all LEON stores and have the opportunity to try dishes that have been on the menu since the first LEON opened, including the Moroccan meatball hotbox, the signature fish finger wrap, and the original super food salad, as well as new seasonal specials.

Simon Smith, CEO of SSP UK said; “LEON was described by the Times as the ‘future of fast food’. We agree. LEON is the perfect partner for our travel sites. We are delighted to be able to add such an innovative brand to our portfolio.”

John Vincent, co-founder and CEO of LEON said: “When we started we imagined what fast food would be like in heaven – fast, fresh and naturally flavourful. And just like traditional fast food, we aim to be where people need and want us – on busy high streets, in airports and in train stations. This partnership with SSP in UK train stations means that together we can bring naturally fast food to even more busy people across the UK.”

LEON currently has 35 stores in London, Birmingham and transport hubs in the UK. They are set to open in Scotland and mainland Europe (Amsterdam) for the first time this summer.

SSP issues Interim Management Statement for the first quarter of its financial year ending 30 September 2016

LONDON, 2016-Feb-01 — /EPR Retail News/ — SSP (“SSP” or “the Group”), a leading operator of food and beverage outlets in travel locations worldwide, issues an Interim Management Statement for the first quarter of its financial year ending 30 September 2016, covering the period from 1 October to 31 December 2015.

Group

SSP has had a good start to the new financial year and expectations for the full year remain positive and unchanged.

Total revenue increased by 6.2% on a constant currency basis, comprising like-for-like sales growth of 4.3% and net contract gains of 1.9%, in line with our expectations. Total revenue growth at actual exchange rates was 1.9%.

Like-for-like sales grew strongly in the UK and Continental Europe in the early part of the new financial year. This has moderated slightly in recent weeks reflecting the impact of geopolitical activity. In North America the positive trends in like-for-like sales growth in 2015 have continued throughout the first quarter of 2016. In the Rest of the World, like-for-like sales growth is in line with expectations, although trading in Egypt remains challenging due to the fall in passenger numbers. The pipeline of new contracts remains encouraging.

Currency

Trading results from outside the UK are converted into sterling at the average exchange rates for the year. The overall impact on revenue of the movement of foreign currencies (principally the Euro, US Dollar, Swedish and Norwegian Krone) in the first quarter compared to the same period in 2014 was -4.3%. If the current spot rates were to continue throughout the remainder of FY 2016, we would expect a positive currency impact on full year revenue of 0.4%. This is however a translation impact only.

Outlook

The new financial year has started in line with our expectations and the pipeline of new contracts is encouraging, although it is difficult to predict the precise timing of the openings of new units. Whilst a degree of uncertainty always exists around geopolitical events and passenger numbers in the short term, the geographical and sectoral diversity of our business, together with the significant structural growth opportunities and our programme to deliver operational improvements, leave us well placed to continue to deliver for both our customers and our shareholders.

Annual General Meeting

The Group’s Annual General Meeting will be held at 11:00am on 4 March 2016, at the offices of Freshfields Bruckhaus Deringer LLP, at 65 Fleet Street, London EC4Y 1HT.
