The John Lewis Partnership announces that Andy Street to step down as Managing Director

London, 2016-Oct-03 — /EPR Retail News/ — The John Lewis Partnership today (30 September 2016) announces that Andy Street will step down as Managing Director, John Lewis on 28 October. After a 31 year career with the Partnership, including nine years as Managing Director, John Lewis, it was confirmed last night that Andy has been selected as the official Conservative Party candidate for the office of Mayor of the West Midlands.

The successor to the position of Managing Director will be announced in due course.

Sir Charlie Mayfield, Chairman of the John Lewis Partnership, said: ‘Andy has led John Lewis brilliantly and leaves the brand with great momentum for the future. I would like to thank him for his passionate contribution to the Partnership.’

The John Lewis Partnership comments on its Managing Director Andy Street running for the office of the Mayor of the West Midlands

London, 2016-Sep-10 — /EPR Retail News/ — The John Lewis Partnership notes recent speculation that Andy Street, Managing Director, John Lewis is to run for the office of the Mayor of the West Midlands.

Andy has indicated to the Chairman that he is interested in running for the office, but at this stage has not been formally selected. A formal process within the Conservative party will now take place.

Should Andy be successful in his application to be the Conservative Party candidate, he has agreed with the Chairman that he should step down from his role and a further announcement will be made to confirm the succession plan for the future leadership of the John Lewis brand.

John Lewis to open shop-in-shops within 7 branches of Netherlands’ leading department store de Bijenkorf

Retailer to open seven shop-in-shops with The Netherlands’ leading department store

LONDON, 2015-11-17 — /EPR Retail News/ — In a first for the retailer, John Lewis has announced it will have a physical presence in Europe by opening shop-in-shops within seven branches of The Netherlands’ leading department store, de Bijenkorf.

The first three shop-in-shop departments will open in spring 2016 at de Bijenkorf’s flagship stores in Amsterdam, Rotterdam and The Hague. This will be followed by additional openings in Eindhoven and Utrecht by the end of next year and in Amstelveen and Maastricht in 2017.

The John Lewis departments will be between 300 sq ft and 500 sq ft in size with the retailer’s in-house store design team designing the look and feel of the retail space.

On offer to customers will be the best of John Lewis’s own brand home and lifestyle products across bed, bath, living and gifting assortments.

Today’s announcement builds on John Lewis’s ambition to increase awareness and engagement with more international customers and to expand its existing international presence. Throughout May and July 2015, John Lewis opened 14 shop-in-shops across Singapore and the Philippines and by 2014 had opened seven shop-in-shops in South Korea.

Andy Street, Managing Director, John Lewis, said: ‘We’re delighted to be debuting our first European shop-in-shop and de Bijenkorf is the perfect partner to enable us to bring John Lewis to a new customer base and country. Our existing shop-in-shops in Singapore, the Phillipines and South Korea have been well received and are trading well. John Lewis opens its largest new shop in four years – the new £35m Birmingham shop

Opening marks £35 million investment and retailer’s largest new shop in four years

LONDON, 2015-9-28 — /EPR Retail News/ — John Lewis today opened its new £35million Birmingham shop, signalling the business’ commitment to the British High Street and the importance of investing in physical shops as part of its growth strategy.

Anchor tenant of the city’s new Grand Central retail development, John Lewis Birmingham is the retailer’s largest shop to open in four years and one of the biggest John Lewis department stores in the UK.

The 250,000 sq ft shop has created 650 new jobs across Birmingham and the wider region with the business having committed to reaching the local long-term and youth unemployed in its recruitment process. The retailer today revealed it received over 10,000 applications for the new jobs – more than 15 applicants per role.

John Lewis Birmingham is the retailer’s most innovative shop to date, having been chosen to debut several brand new services and concepts, including fashion and lifestyle concept loved&found, and the first John Lewis-branded spa, &Beauty. These form part of the business’ ambition to expand the services and experiences within its shops and its commitment to investing in shops as part of an omnichannel approach.

John Lewis to create more than 100 new jobs with the opening of ‘at home’ shop in Worcester in 2017

LONDON, 2014-9-18— /EPR Retail News/ — John Lewis has today announced plans to open an at home shop in Worcester in 2017. The shop will be located in between junctions six and seven of the M5 on a new retail scheme. The site at Newtown Road is being developed by Land Securities plc.

John Lewis will invest £7 million in the shop and will create more than 100 new jobs, boosting local employment. The John Lewis at home will be a new build, extending over two floors with the ground and first floor selling areas totalling 40,000 sq ft, the plans also include a customer café.

The John Lewis at home format focuses on furniture, furnishing accessories, electrical and home technology. To allow customers to access and order a wider John Lewis assortment from johnlewis.com, customer online ordering points will be located throughout the shop and customers will also be able to use the free John Lewis Click and Collect service.

Andy Street, managing director, John Lewis, said: ‘Worcester has long been a sought after destination for us, and I am delighted that we have now found an opportunity to bring John Lewis to the city. We believe the opening of a John Lewis at home in Worcester will offer customers in the local area a broader, modern, more convenient shopping offer. The John Lewis at home concept successfully launched in Poole in October 2009 and there are now 10 at home shops across the country. The opening of Worcester will follow the opening of a flagship regional department store in Birmingham demonstrating increased investment from the retailer in the West Midlands area.
