Zenith and Bulgari recognized at the 2017 Grand Prix d’Horlogerie de Genève awards

Paris, 2017-Nov-14 — /EPR Retail News/ — The prestigious Grand Prix d’Horlogerie de Genève awards took place on November 8th in Geneva. The international jury saluted watchmaking excellence, innovation and expertise, awarding 16 prizes. The Innovation Prize went to the Zenith Defy Lab, while Bulgari took home two prizes for its Octo Finissimo Automatic and Octo Finissimo Tourbillon Skeleton men’s watches.

Considered “the Oscars of watchmaking”, the Grand Prix d’Horlogerie de Genève announced its 2017 prizes on November 8th. Zenith won the Innovation Prize for its Defy Lab, the world’s most accurate mechanical watch thanks to a groundbreaking oscillator. Awarded triple certification, this exceptional timepiece revisits the balance and hairspring regulator invented in January 1675 by the scientist Christiaan Huygens. A concentrate of precision and innovation, the Defy Lab is the first watch made from Aeronith, an aluminum composite lighter than titanium, aluminum or carbon fiber.

Bulgari was also celebrated at the awards, receiving the Men’s Watch Prize for the Octo Finissimo Automatic, plus the Tourbillon and Escapement Watch Prize for the Octo Finissimo Tourbillon Skeleton. Unveiled at the 2017 edition of Baselworld, the Octo Finissimo Automatic has a thickness of just 5.15 mm, making it the thinnest automatic watch in the market.

The Octo Finissimo Tourbillon Skeleton features the world’s thinnest tourbillon, revealing an open-work movement with 253 components and featuring 13 rubies and eight ball bearings. This double win recognizes two icons of contemporary horological creativity and unrivalled watchmaking mastery.

Bulgari redesigns its flagship store on Fifth Avenue

©Bulgari

NEW YORK, NY, 2017-Oct-27 — /EPR Retail News/ — Forty years after opening its first store in New York, Bulgari reaffirms its love for the city with a redesign of its flagship store on Fifth Avenue. Conceived by architect Peter Marino, the store’s architectural concept fuses Rome and New York, two iconic and strikingly contrasting cities.

In the 1970s Bulgari opened its first store in New York. With its distinctive avant-garde spirit, the Roman Maison brought the essence of Roman lifestyle across the Atlantic to celebrate the city that never sleeps, becoming the jeweler of the modern woman.

Forty years after opening its first store, at the end of 2017 Bulgari has reimagined its flagship, which boasts one of Manhattan’s most strategic locations, on the corner of 5th Avenue and 57th Street. Created by Peter Marino, the store’s design concept draws inspiration from architectural elements of the mythic Bulgari flagship store on Via Condotti in Rome, proposing a timeless yet contemporary vision of the Eternal City.

Combining classic and contemporary, tradition and innovation, the space becomes an invitation to travel through the Roman Maison’s 130-year history. Roman inspiration is omnipresent, referencing the Pantheon in Rome and the geometric circle and square motifs that grace the building’s precious floor. The best of Italian craftsmanship is showcased in more than 30 meticulously selected traditional noble materials, including marble, different tones of marmorino, precious walnut, iron, brass, silk and velvet.

To fete the redesign of the store the Maison has also created the Bulgari New York Collection, featuring Roman sophistication and joie de vivre, along with a tribute to America’s famous Stars and Stripes flag. Among the most magnificent pieces in the collection is a necklace made of a blue, red and white cascade, with alternating tanzanite, rubelite and diamonds. There is also a Serpenti bracelet in white gold set with pavé diamonds, lapis and coral.

Bulgari and British footwear designer Nicholas Kirkwood collaborate on Serpenti Forever bag

PARIS, 2017-Sep-27 — /EPR Retail News/ — This fall, legendary jeweler Bulgari has invited British footwear designer Nicholas Kirkwood to revisit a line of accessories. The two Maisons have unveiled an exclusive collaboration, melding their savoir-faire for a distinctive reinterpretation of the Serpenti Forever bag.

A symbol of wisdom, renewal and vitality, the snake is an iconic Bulgari motif.   Both talisman and accessory, the serpent is revisited this season by British footwear designer Nicholas Kirkwood, known for his bold creativity. The capsule collection is resolutely contemporary, with backpacks, clutches and shoulder bags, including the Serpenti Forever bag first designed by Bulgari in 2012.

The bags come in a richly textured chevron pattern defined by varnished studs, with a mix of flat, round and matte pyramidal buttons. Nicholas Kirkwood also adds a new twist to the enameled snake head clasp that adorns the backpacks and shoulder bags. The innovative collection boasts graphic forms and a color palette inspired by gemstones such as pink spinel and royal sapphire, melding the design codes shared by both houses. Nicholas Kirkwood drew inspiration from the distinctively sophisticated Bulgari universe. “I created the chevron patterns using rubberized studs which have faceted ends that reminded me of diamond settings and some of the spectacular gemstones I had seen in the Bulgari High Jewelry atelier in Rome,” says the designer. The limited edition collection inaugurates a series of Bulgari collaborations dubbed “Serpenti Through The Eyes of”.

Bulgari muse Bella Hadid exquisitely shows off the range in the capsule collection campaign, photographed by Terry Richardson. The bags are available exclusively at the Printemps Haussmann Paris department store in France until October 14, as well as on the Net-A-Porter website.

Bulgari expands its exclusively “made in Italy” manufacturing network with a new jewelry manufacturing facility in Valenza, Italy

Bulgari expands its exclusively “made in Italy” manufacturing network with a new jewelry manufacturing facility in Valenza, Italy

Paris, 2017-Mar-23 — /EPR Retail News/ — Bulgari inaugurated its new jewelry manufacturing facility in Valenza, Italy, on March 17. Bridging tradition and innovation, the 14,000-square-meter site expands Bulgari’s exclusively “made in Italy” manufacturing network.

Bulgari has continually amazed, innovated and renewed its creativity since its founding in Rome in 1884. The storied Maison bridges tradition and future once again with the inauguration of a new jewelry manufacturing facility in Valenza, Italy, a cradle of goldsmithing. The launch of the new 14,000-square-meter site will lead to the creation of 300 new jobs by 2020.

The Valenza site joins the network of Italian manufacturing facilities where Bulgari products are crafted by Italian artisans: high jewelry in Rome, accessories in Florence, perfumes in Lodi and silk in Como. Only watches are made outside Italy, in Switzerland, where they bear the prestigious Swiss Made label.

The new Manifattura Bulgari spans two buildings. The Cascina dell’Orefice is where the first goldsmiths worked in Valenza in the early 19th century.  Featuring a new wing encased entirely in glass, the completely renovated building has been dubbed the Glass House,. The second building houses production operations on three floors around a 600-square-meter interior courtyard, inspired by a Roman domus and bathing the interior in natural daylight. “This new facility is a perfect fusion of past and present, bringing together a love of beauty and the artisanal savoir-faire that has made Italy the world leader in jewelry and goldsmithing,” says Jean-Christophe Babin, Chief Executive Officer of Bulgari.

Designed by Open Project, an architecture and engineering firm specialized in integrated management of complex building systems, the Manifattura Bulgari seamlessly integrates the surrounding environment. It has been constructed using innovative technologies, materials with low environmental impact and an emphasis on sustainability. The project aims to earn certification to LEED (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design), the world’s most demanding sustainable building standard.

This ambitious project also includes the new Bulgari Jewellery Academy, where all new employees will learn time-honored jewelry making skills. The first class counts 21 young jewelry artisans and has capacity for 42 students.

Bulgari unveiled the newly restored Spanish Steps in Rome

Paris, 2016-Sep-24 — /EPR Retail News/ — Bulgari today (SEPTEMBER 23, 2016) unveiled the newly restored Spanish Steps, one of Rome’s most iconic monuments, after two years of work. The storied Roman jeweler is proud to contribute to the preservation of Roman heritage.

On Friday, September 23rd, Romans were once again delighted to walk up the monumental Spanish Steps, a symbol of Rome’s cultural and architectural heritage. Following a restoration project financed by Bulgari that began in October 2015, the 138 steps have been returned to their gleaming splendor. The inauguration took place on Thursday, attended by Rome mayor Virginia Raggi and Jean-Christophe Babin, CEO of Bulgari.

To mark the 130th anniversary of the House in 2014, Bulgari donated 1.5 million euros to the city of Rome to finance the project. “Today we are delighted to celebrate with the city the return of a monument whose splendor represents the grandeur of Rome,” said Jean-Christophe Babin. The Spanish Steps have special historic resonance for Bulgari as the connection between Via Sistina, where Roman jeweler Sotirio Bulgari opened his first shop in 1884, and Via dei Condotti, now home to its flagship store.

To celebrate the event, Bulgari organized an inaugural evening Piazza di Spagna, inviting 30 Roman citizens whose names were drawn at random from a list provided by the municipality. Also attending were ten prisoners who volunteered to work on the renovation project without pay as part of a rehabilitation program organized by the city of Rome and supported by Bulgari.

Bulgari is deeply attached to Rome and its heritage and has plans for future projects designed to help preserve the city’s unique beauty.

Bulgari supports the Save the Children charity with #RaiseYourHand campaign

PARIS, 2016-Aug-02 — /EPR Retail News/ — Bulgari has launched the new campaign #RaiseYourHand to support the Save the Children charity. Bulgari and Save the Children have had a global philanthropic partnership for the past seven years. An impressive lineup of artists and personalities have raised their hands to support this eminently worthy cause.

In 2009, Bulgari began helping vulnerable children through support for Save The Children, a charity that works around the world to protect the rights of thousands of children and sustainably improve their living conditions in 120 countries. A portion of the proceeds from sales of the bracelet is donated directly to Save The Children.

Bulgari one of the few houses today with a Manufacture that allows control over the entire creative process

PARIS, 2016-Mar-29 — /EPR Retail News/ — Since its founding in Rome in 1884, Bulgari has always known how to surprise, innovate and reinvent itself. These high standards have contributed to its ascent in watchmaking, making Bulgari one of the few houses today with a Manufacture that allows control over the entire creative process, end to end. Here’s a close-up look at Bulgari’s high-precision production mechanism.

Divided among four sites located in Switzerland’s Jura region, the Bulgari Manufacture covers all the stages in the creation of the most outstanding contemporary watches. From horological mechanisms and casings to metal watchbands and high-end dials, all watch components are produced in-house. Some 350 employees meticulously execute the design and development processes, from the initial design sketch to final quality control. Several dozen métiers are represented, spanning both traditional expertise and state-of-the-art technologies.

The Sentier facility produces and assembles the Solotempo self-winding watch, the collection of grand complications, and the Finissimo extra-thin watches. Advanced technologies and highly qualified technicians ensure flawless design of miniature functional components, demanding incredible technical dexterity.

At the Saignelégier facility, production focuses on casings and gold and steel bands for some of Bulgari’s most high-profile models. This unit brings together an array of highly-specialized métiers to ensure the various production stages, including numerical control milling machines that shape blocks of gold or steel, lubricated by oil sprays, and an imposing polishing chamber where all components are processed by hand, down to the smallest links in a watchband.

The Chaux-de-Fonds facility makes high-end dials, whose elaborate design requires a wealth of expertise, as well as extensive experience. Impeccable quality is imperative at each stage in the manufacturing process to ensure that the product complies with the highest standards of excellence.

Neuchâtel, Bulgari’s fourth production site, is the operational nerve center, where final assembly, mechanism casings and the ultimate quality controls are carried out. This is also where jewelry and watchmaking come together to finalize high jewelry watches designed in close cooperation with Bulgari Jewelry teams. For each piece, the precious components are crafted at one of two Bulgari facilities, either the Valenza Manufacture or the Haute Joaillerie workshop in Rome. Watches are made using a traditional technique called lost-wax casting. Specialized goldsmiths clean, assembly and finish all precious metal parts to give shape to bands and casings set with precious gems, following the natural movement of the wrist.

Bulgari’s watchmaking operations take advantage of natural synergies, making the Italian House a benchmark in terms of quality and precision in the demanding world of high-end watch manufacturers.

The Italian jeweler innovates continually, associating its mastery of precious materials with Swiss watchmaking precision. The precious new Serpenti Incantati watch highlights the iconic serpent theme, a symbolic creature long since tamed by Bulgari. In this interpretation, for the very first time the reptile coils around the watch dial. Each part of the head and the body has been entirely rethought and redesigned with extremely contemporary lines. Without losing sapphire’s unique and rare character, Hublot has made it more accessible with this absolutely transparent collection that consecrates the acclaimed architecture of the Big Bang model and the performances of the brand’s Unico movement. Finishes, textures and materials fuse to create an indivisible whole. The case middle, bezel and back of the Big Bang Unico Sapphire are cut from blocks of sapphire.
