Carrefour announces a potential investment by Tencent and Yonghui in Carrefour China as well as a strategic cooperation agreement with Tencent in China.

Potential Investment by Tencent and Yonghui in Carrefour China
Carrefour has signed a term sheet with Tencent and Yonghui regarding a potential investment in Carrefour China. The potential investment will leverage Carrefour’s global retail knowledge with Tencent’s technological excellence and Yonghui’s operational knowhow and in particular its deep knowledge of fresh products. Upon completion of this investment, Carrefour will remain the largest shareholder of Carrefour China.

Strategic Cooperation Agreement with Tencent
Moreover, Carrefour and Tencent are pleased to announce they have signed a preliminary agreement regarding a strategic business cooperation in China, in order to bring together Carrefour’s longstanding retail knowledge and Tencent’s digital expertise and innovation capabilities.

Thanks to this partnership, Carrefour will improve its online visibility, increase the traffic of its offline and online retail activities and benefit from Tencent’s advanced digital and technological expertise to develop new smart retail initiatives.
Tencent will further develop the retail services offered on its social platforms and promote the use of Weixin as well as Weixin Pay, cloud computing and other services within the Carrefour ecosystem.

The contemplated scope of cooperation includes key partnership areas such as cooperation on data, smart retail, mobile payment, in-store experience and data analysis to boost Carrefour China’s customer traffic.

The strategic cooperation and investment are subject to further diligence and agreement of the parties on the terms of a definitive documentation. Carrefour will keep the market informed of further progress as appropriate.

China, 2017-Mar-31 — /EPR Retail News/ — The project One Store, One School, One Farm is designed to choose Carrefour stores, primary schools and farms to establish cooperation relations, encouraging students to participate in the practical activities and educating them for the knowledge of food safety, nutrition and anti food waste. 2000+ students, 2000+ employees from 100 Carrefour stores and farmers nationwide will join hands to accomplish the project in three years.

By end March, 2017, 300+ students from 13 primary schools and 250+ employees from 12 Carrefour China stores have joined One Store One School One Farm Project across China (Shanghaï, Schenzhen, Chendu, Beijing, Shenyang and Wuhan). 13 activities including bakery class, little experts (lab test) and farm experience were organized, and the education and knowledge of food safety, nutrition and anti food waste have been promoted to all of those students and their families.

This operation has been rewarded by China Youth Development Foundation with the Contribution Award 2016  for One Store One School One Farm Project launching in China.

Carrefour China opens new hypermarket in XiangYang China

Hubei, China, 2015-12-1 — /EPR Retail News/ — The Carrefour Zhongyuanlu Hypermarket  opened in XiangYang in Hubei province in the East of China, on November 20th.

The store has a sales area of 6,790 square meters and 18 check-outs, as well as a parking with 338 lots.

Carrefour China has more than 230 hypermarkets.

Carrefour China installs connected digital ads in two of Shanghai metro’s main stations to coincide with its Wine Fair

Shanghai, China, 2015-10-23 — /EPR Retail News/ — Carrefour.cn, Carrefour’s e-commerce website in China, is running advertisements and is causing a stir in the corridors of the Shanghai metro after installing connected digital advertisements in two of the city’s main stations to coincide with its Wine Fair.

For one month, thousands of daily users of metro lines 2, 7 and 10 will be able to discover the Wine Fair selection and make their purchases using twenty or so digital walls and a virtual wine cellar.

All passengers need to do is scan the QR code of their selected product with their smartphone to find out more about the wine, buy it on Carrefour.cn – the e-commerce website launched last May – and arrange for home delivery.

A total of more than 10 million people in Shanghai are expected to see the temporary display.

LIXIN, China, 2015-9-8 — /EPR Retail News/ — On August 28th, Carrefour China inaugurated a new store in the city of Lixin in the province of Anhui in the West of the Country.

The Carrefour Lixin Renmin Road hypermarket extends over a sales area of 6,240 sqm. The store has 25 cashiers as well as a car park of 320 places.

Carrefour China opens two new hypermarkets

CHINA, 2015-5-13 — /EPR Retail News/ — On 30 April, Carrefour China opened two new hypermarkets.

The first store to be opened in the north-east of China. With a sales area of more than 7000 m², it has 22 checkouts and a car park with space for 750 cars. This hypermarket is located in a shopping centre of 25 stores.

The second store – “Hefei Mingbang Store” – has a sales area of 7761 m² and 22 check-outs, as well as a car park with space for 780 cars. It is located in a large shopping centre made up of 48 stores.

Carrefour China launches its first fleet of electric shuttle bus at Caoying Store, Shanghai

SHANGHAI, CHINA, 2015-5-6 — /EPR Retail News/ — On 23 April, Carrefour China launched its first fleet of electric shuttle bus at Caoying Store, Shanghai. This marks Carrefour the first chained retailer in China to drive the “green consumption, green transportation” into the local communities.

Mr. Eric Deliers, The Carrefour East Territory President & Carrefour China Vice President attended the ceremony, and cut ribbon with  local government representative as well as the bus supplier. All participants and Carrefour customers were invited to visit the E-bus and made trial ride.

Carrefour China now with 233 stores in the country

Boulogne-Billancourt, France, 2014-12-29 — /EPR Retail News/ — On 20 and 23 December, Carrefour China opened two new Carrefour stores. The country now has a total of 233!

On 20 December in the Shanghai region, a store with a sales area of more than 9400 m² opened to the public. The Carrefour Shanghai Cao Ying Store is surrounded by a car park with space for 1100 cars. 28 checkouts are available to customers.

The second store – the Wuhan Nanhu Wuchangfu store – has been trading since 23 December. With a sales area of 7900 m², it has 28 checkouts and a car park with space for 500 cars.
