BELGIUM: Colruyt Group’s energy specialist Eoly to power Flanders’ first public charging station network

Halle, Belgium, 2017-Jun-27 — /EPR Retail News/ — Eoly, Colruyt Group’s energy specialist, was chosen to supply green power to the first public charging station network in Flanders. By order of the Flemish Government, charging station operator Allego is installing 2,500 charging stations by 2020, 650 of which later this year. As a 100 % Belgian and sustainable energy supplier, Eoly will supply the entire network.

Chosen energy supplier

Since 2013, Eoly has been supplying green power to various Colruyt Group entities and recently also started focusing on the external market. Companies with a consumption over 50 MWh a year can go to the energy supplier for 100 % sustainable energy, locally generated with wind turbines, solar panels and combined heat/power. “This partnership with Allego is a nice step in the development of our activities on the B2B market”, says Thomas Decamps, Sourcing & Supply manager at Eoly. “We are very pleased to be able to supply the very first public charging station network in Flanders with our sustainable power. It allows us to contribute to the development of sustainable mobility and help reduce CO2 emissions.”

Encourage electric driving

The Flemish Government wants to encourage electric driving and is therefore developing a public charging station network. As part of the Flemish ‘Clean Power for Transport’ action plan, Minister of Energy Bart Tommelein commissioned utilities operators Eandis and Infrax to invite tenders. It was won by Allego, a charging station operator that will deliver, install and operate a total of 2,500 public charging stations by 2020. “The aim is for every Flemish municipality to have at least one charging station”, says Dirk Thys, account manager at Allego. “We will install the stations spread over a period of four years. The first was symbolically switched on in Ostend in May, the rest will now follow rapidly.”

Important addition to charging at home

Public charging stations are an important addition to charging at home or at work. They are mainly used to top up and to bridge distances. Based on analyses, independent studies and experiences abroad, the best locations were chosen to set up new charging stations. These locations are mainly carpool car parks, office buildings, commercial centres, mobility nodes and recreational places.

Colruyt Group’s “Recycle” Tricycle Designed To Collect Litter at Events

Halle, Belgium, 2017-Jun-19 — /EPR Retail News/ — Event organisers who want to ban litter, can borrow an electrical ‘Recycle’ tricycle from Colruyt Group’s environment service free of charge. This Belgian novelty was designed to clean up waste separately at events. The tricycle was used for the first time at the children’s art festival SuperVliegSuperMouche in the Park of Forest. “With the Recycle we want to stimulate people not to leave litter behind”, says Goedele Daems, environment co-ordinator at Colruyt Group. “And we take another step in our more general action plan ‘Joining hands for less street litter’.”

Containers and accessories

The Recycle is equipped with containers for PMD, residual waste and glass and has the necessary accessories for the volunteers on board: brush, dustpan, grabbers, vests and gloves. Today Colruyt Group has 5 bikes freely available to event organisers who want to ban litter and commit to collecting the waste separately. Goedele Daems: “We also loan the Recycles to associations that organise a clean-up action, deliver them for free and collect them afterwards. The organiser has to provide the bike-riders.”

First time at children’s art festival at Forest

The Recycle had its official premiere during the free children’s art festival SuperVliegSuperMouche last Sunday in the Park of Forest. “Ideal surroundings”, says Goedele Daems, “since the organisation wanted to make it a green festival and make the young visitors conscious about litter while they play.” The organiser was also enthusiastic about the new carrier tricycles.

Reservations

Organisers and associations interested in booking the Recycle can send a mail with subject ‘Recycle’ to bikes@colruytgroup.com, at least 14 days

Colruyt Group’s private label Boni Selection launches new product: Appetit meal drink

Halle, Belgium, 2017-Jan-14 — /EPR Retail News/ — Colruyt Group’s private label Boni Selection markets a new, innovative product: Appetit. It is an easy, nutritious meal drink made of oats and fruit, which offers people with a busy lifestyle an alternative for unhealthy snacks. Appetit is the result of our own research and product development, and will be available at 2.49 euros at Colruyt, Collect&Go, Okay and Spar as from 18 January.

Nutritious meal drink with unique recipe

The unique combination of oats and fruit makes Appetit nutritious and filling. It provides enough energy to keep going until the next meal and offers busy people a nutritious alternative for fast food or unhealthy snacks. “It is important to emphasize that it is not the umpteenthsmoothie, protein shake or diet drink”, says project manager Julie D’Haenens. “Appetit is a nutritious meal drink that leaves you satisfied.”

We also thought of user-friendliness. Appetit is ready-to-drink (no need to add water or powder) and comes in a re-closable bottle easy to take with you. Appetit is available in two flavours: raspberry-blueberry and mango-passion fruit. It will be available in the fresh-market  at Colruyt, OKay and Spar and online via Collect&Go

Gap in the market

Appetit will not only fill the emptiness in your stomach, but the gap in the market as well. Colruyt Group did extensive market research and interviewed different test groups about their lifestyle. “The results showed that many active adults cannot find the time to eat properly. They often skip meals or turn to fast food”, says brand manager Sofie Priëls of Colruyt Group. “The demand for a solution to appease the appetite in a quick and healthy way was very real. So our Food Innovation team developed this product. And at the acceptable price of 2.49 euros.”

Innovation at Colruyt Group

Appetit is a realisation of Colruyt Group’s R&D&I department (that takes care of research, development and innovation), and a milestone in own product innovation. Colruyt Group worked on Appetit for a long time, until it met all conditions.

“We made several prototypes, from powders to drinks. And the latter proved to be the handiest since you can easily put a bottle in your pocket”, explains Julie D’Haenens “We also focused on health, a natural composition and nutritional value. We tested salty variants such as tomato-carrot and paprika-oregano, but they were often associated with cold soup. We continued our tests with different kinds of fruit and selected the two flavours that scored best in tasting tests: mango-passion fruit and raspberry-blueberry.” These two will be on the store shelves as from 18 January.
