QATAR, 2016-Oct-31 — /EPR Retail News/ — As part of the ambitious expansion strategy being adopted to reach all regions of the country and provide its exceptional services to the various segments of society, Al Meera Consumer Goods Company (QSC) has opened its new branch in Bu Sidra; the first shopping center opening its doors to consumers as part of Al Meera’s ‘14 shopping centers’ expansion plan, which is part of the Company’s mission to provide consumers in every region of the country a great shopping experience that provides true value for money.

The opening of the new shopping center comes in the framework of Al Meera’s Corporate Social Responsibility, in terms of providing the highest quality products at affordable prices to the communities in which it operates, as well as keep pace with the urban and population boom Qatar is witnessing, in line with the Qatar National Vision 2030.

The new Bu Sidra Al Meera shopping center is located on the street parallel to the Al Furousiya Street in the Al Rayyan area, landing on the intersection of the Al Ishraq Street and Al Ikhaa Street. The 4250 m2 branch entails 2100 m2 of supermarket area, in addition to 10 other shops and a food court, which will begin providing its services to the shopping center’s visitors at the soonest.

The shopping center was built in accordance with the highest international standards and has been equipped with modern interior designs and lighting systems that ensure a distinctive shopping experience. The center feature a supermarket equipped with world-class technologies and facilities, a huge parking space, and a variety of shops and restaurants, further fulfilling the Company’s vision of becoming consumers’ ‘Favourite Neighbourhood Retailer’.

The opening ceremony was inaugurated by Dr. Mohammed Nasser Al Qahtani, Deputy CEO of Al Meera in the presence of Mr. Mohammed Hamad Al-Marri, a member of the 13th District Central Municipal Council and Al Meera representatives.

Community shopping centers represent an important element in the growth and development strategy that Al Meera Consumer Goods Company is pursuing. QATAR, 2016-Oct-28 — /EPR Retail News/ — Al Meera Group gross profit increased 6.2% (QAR 18.4 million), from QAR 295.5 million to QAR 313.9 million. Meanwhile, Group gross shops rental income increased 49.6%, from QAR 35.6 million to QAR 53.3 million, compared to the same period last year.

Dr. Mohammed Nasser Al Qahtani, Al Meera Deputy Chief Executive Officer said:
“For the third quarter of 2016, Al Meera’s Group sales increased 7.2% (QAR 129.2 million), from QAR 1,805.0 million to QAR 1,934.2 million, compared to the same period last year. Al Meera’s Group operating income increased 9.4%, from QAR 349.6 million to QAR 382.6 million, compared to the same period last year.”

Al Meera’s financial results for 2016’s third quarter reflect the Company’s sound policies, high standards of service, and the continued progress achieved in its medium and long term expansion plans, including the recent soft opening of its 4,239 m2 Bu Sidra branch; the first of five new shopping centers set to open their doors to consumers in succession in the soon future, adding a total of 9,709 m2 Supermarket Area to Al Meera’s presence in Qatar.

Al Qahtani continued:

QATAR, 2016-Apr-26 — /EPR Retail News/ — In the framework of its annual commitment to present generous offers that satisfy customers during the holy month of Ramadan, Al Meera Consumer Goods Company (QSC), yesterday, announced its distinctive offers for Ramadan for the year 1437 AH, which is based on selling 1437 consumer goods at cost price, in honor of the Islamic Year 1437. The offer’s coming into effect will be announced within days and will continue until the end of the holy month at all of Al Meera branches in the country through various shelf tags that indicated the products at cost – in the context of Al Meera’s pursuit to provide the best and highest quality and most attractive products to all customers according to the highest standards in shopping and food safety.

Exceptional Offers

Al Meera has also begun, in coordination with its local suppliers, working on providing the largest possible number of offers on consumer products, which will reach around 850 items, in addition to approximately 300 deals on household  and kitchenware items.

Working with the company’s overseas suppliers is also underway, to import the best products and to provide imported items from the company’s various sources, prior to the holy month, such as Turkey, Thailand, Vietnam, the United States and the United Kingdom, among others.

Social initiatives

In parallel with its open handed initiative at branches and sales operations, Al Meera continues to support strides aiming to help achieve food and health safety. Al Meera has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Ministry of Public Health (MPH) and Weill Cornell Medicine-Qatar (WCM-Q to implement a public health awareness campaign, through the provision of a wide range of nutrition information to aid in selecting a healthy and balanced diet, via posters displayed in a number of Al Meera branches. The company is working hard with its partners to launch the project before the holy month.

Moreover, Al Meera will not hesitate to support campaigns that introduce some chronic diseases or ones that require raising awareness about, such as “diabetes,” “obesity” and others, through the provision of suitable spaces to host such events to educate Al Meera patrons about healthy lifestyles that must be adopted on a daily basis, especially during the holy month of Ramadan.

Supporting charitable organizations

Honoring the company’s annual traditions, Al Meera will support Ramadan projects and programs carried out by associations and charitable organizations in the country, along the lines of “Eid Charity”, “Qatar Charity”, and the “Qatar Red Crescent,” according to the resources available. In this context, it is worth mentioning that Al Meera will coordinate with the Ministry of Endowments and Islamic Affairs for the distribution of water and paper tissue during the “Tarawih” prayers at the major mosques in the country during the holy month.

Expansion

In the framework of its commitment to the Qatar National Vision 2030, Al Meera has developed a strategic plan to expand in the Qatari market, where it is currently working on the completion of its plan to establish 14 new branches in various regions of the country. In addition to beginning works at five shopping centers last year in each of North Sailiya (Al Miarad), Leabaib 2, Al Wakra (West), Umm Salal Ali, and Bu Sidra, which are expected to be delivered within the next three months.

Construction agreement with Al Muftah Contracting Company and Al Khayarin Group Contracting and Trading

Recently, the company announced that it has signed contracts with with Al Khayarin Group Contracting and Trading and Al Muftah Contracting Company, to build six new stores in the coming period with a total contract value of QR 238,730,146 – These agreements were made in accordance with the company’s procedures through the tender and auction committee’s recommendation being lead by Dr. Saif Said Al Sowaidi and of course the board of director’s approval.

Al Muftah Contracting Company will handle executive works at each of the branches located in Rawdat Aba El Heran, Azghawa, Leabaib and Umm Qarn, that will be built on a land area of 10,805 m2, 6,311 m2, 17,390 m2 and 10,230 m2 respectively.

On the other hand, Al Khayarin Group Contracting and Trading, will work on establishing two new Al Meera shopping stores in Al Khor and Saileya, on a land area of 15,000 m2 each.

Emanating from its cooperation with national companies and in line with the country’s vision of the development of areas outside of Doha, Al Meera has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) for the operation and management of two shopping centers, in Fox Hills North and North Residential Villas districts in Lusail City.

Al Meera’s expansion plans also include the opening of new branches that serves students at Qatar Foundation for Education, Science and Community Development, where negotiations are currently underway to sign contracts for the operation of two spaces at student housings (around 80 square meters each), and a space at the Students Center in Education City (approximately 150 square meters).

The company is also negotiating with the “Doha Institute For Graduate Studies”, to operate a supermarket which is approximately 150 sqm to serve the Institute’s students. Not to forget that negotiations are also being undertaken with Qatar Arm forces and Ahmed Bin Mohammed Military College for the inauguration of a branch there.

The drive is in line with Al Meera’s commitment to Qatar’s communities as part of its corporate social responsibility program, helping to ensure a secure blood supply in Qatar’s hospitals. The success came by the company’s tradition of working with like-minded Qatari organizations such as Hamad Medical Corporation, who are committed as fervently to the same cause.

The campaign saw a very positive response from Al Meera staff who were more than happy to participate in a humanitarian cause that aids patients in need in their journey to recovery.

“The blood donation drive is testament to our commitment to Qatar’s communities and individuals. QATAR, 2015-11-9 — /EPR Retail News/ — Al Meera Consumer Goods Company (Q.S.C) announced the opening of its Al Thuamama branch, marking the 46th addition to the successful supermarket chain.

The opening of the new branch came as a response to the needs of Al Thumama’s community and those surrounding it, due to their lack of shopping facilities; and also as part of Al Meera’s aim to serve all areas in Qatar. The new branch was constructed according to international standards and with modern interiors to provide customers with a more convenient and enjoyable shopping experience.

The Al Thumama branch has an area of 3770 sqm, and two entrances to provide convenient access to shoppers in addition to a huge parking space. In the near future, the branch will feature 5 shops that are set to open soon to provide customers with a variety of services. The 1,430-sqm-supermarket area utilizes high-tech lighting and storage techniques and technologies that adhere to international standards.

The store offers shoppers a wide variety of food and non-food related items as well as fresh products. The branch includes a butchery, fishery, delicatessen, fruits and vegetables area and bakery to answer to the consumers’ various daily needs at very competitive prices.

Dr. Mohammed Nasser Al Qahtani, Deputy CEO of Al Meera Consumer Goods Company, inaugurated the opening ceremony in the presence of Mr. Mohammed Ibrahim Al Sulaiti, Member of the Board of Directors, in addition to Ms. Sheikha Bint Yousef Al Jufairi, Member of the Central Municipal Council and Ms. Fatima Bint Ahmed Al Kuwari, Area Representative at the Municipal Council, along with several Al Meera representatives.

Commenting on this occasion, Dr. Al Qahtani said:

“Al Meera has made a big effort to complete the Al Thumama branch, and succeeded in doing so as well as preparing it for its opening as per schedule, after obtaining the necessary permits and approvals for that. That being said, we are very happy to be serving a new segment of the Qatari society.”

Dr. Al Qahtani pointed out that the new branch will be serving the Al Thumama, Al Matar Al Qadeem, and Rawdat Al Matar areas.

He added: “The opening of the Al Thumama branch is in line with Al Meera’s slogan to be ‘Your Favourite Neighbourhood Retailer’, and expand into newly developed areas as well as areas that have witnessed a significant increase in population.”

Dr. Al Qahtani stressed that Al Meera’s expansion and development strategy will not stop at any point, and will continue to keep pace with the development of the different areas in State, which is in line with Qatar National Vision 2030. “We will not stop developing, expanding and serving all areas,” he said.

He also gave thanks to all those who worked together with Al Meera to open the Al Thumama branch, especially the Ministry of Municipality and Urban Planning, the Ministry of Economy and Commerce, the Public Works Authority “Ashghal”, and the KAHRAMAA Corporation.

Al Meera is set to launch another branch in Rawdat Ekdeem later this year in the coming weeks, after obtaining the necessary approvals and licenses from the relevant authorities. Al Meera Q3-2015: Profit from the retail segment surged 53.8% YoY

QATAR, 2015-11-04 — /EPR Retail News/ — Al Meera Consumer Goods Company (Q.S.C.) recently disclosed its third quarter financial statements for the nine month period ended September 30, 2015.

Sales for the period grew 12.1%, to QR 1.80 billion from QR 1.61 billion, compared to the same period in 2014.

Dr. Mohammed Nasser Al Qahtani, Al Meera Deputy Chief Executive Officer said: “Profit from the retail segment surged 53.8% to QR 85.6 million, compared to QR 55.6 million for the corresponding period of 2014, and profit from the leasing segment rose 12.8%, from QR 29.2 million to QR 33.0 million”. He added: “Net profit from Investment Segment was down by 76.3% to QR 18.1 million, compared to QR 76.2 million for the same period in 2014, due to adverse Qatar stock market conditions”.

Al Meera’s financial results come as a result of the company’s successful expansion plans to serve the diverse communities in the state of Qatar and meet the needs of all citizens and residents wherever they are, with competitive prices that take into account all segments of society.

The results also showed a net profit attributable to owners of the company amounting to QR 137.0 million for the nine month period ended September 30, 2015, down by QR 24.1 million, compared to QR 161.1 million for the same period in 2014, due to decline in net profit from investment segment. Earnings per share for the period were QR 6.85, compared to QR 8.05 for the same period of last year.

Al Qahtani continued: “These results clearly demonstrate Al Meera’s ascending performance throughout the years. We are glad to maintain this growth with achieving an ambitious expansion plan involving 40 branches in the State of Qatar. Our aim is to not only increase our retail space, but also to broaden our product offerings to all our customers. This strategy prioritizes the benefit of everyone in the country – shareholders and clienteles alike”.

While discussing the expansion plan, Dr. Mohammed Nasser Al Qahtani, Deputy CEO of Al Meera, said:

“The opening of the Al Wajba branch is in line with Al Meera’s slogan to be ‘Your Favourite Neighbourhood Retailer’, and expand into newly developed areas as well as areas that have witnessed a significant increase in population, with a commitment to provide a unique and all-inclusive service to all segments of the Qatari community.”

He added: “We are very pleased to be serving yet another segment of the Qatari community and look forward to the opening of our upcoming branches.”

He made sure to stress that, through its expansion strategy, Al Meera continuously seeks to support the Qatar National Vision 2030 in its plan to develop all areas of the nation.

Al-Qahtani explained that the new branch will be serving the Al Wajba area, in addition to the New Rayyan, Muaither, Rawdat Abal Heeran and Al Sailiya until the completion of the new branches in those areas. He also thanked all parties that have supported the opening of the new branch specially the Ministry of Municipality and Urban Planning, the Ministry of Economy and Commerce, the Public Works Authority “Ashghal”, and the KAHRAMAA Corporation for their great support on the opening of the new branch.

Al Meera is set to launch two more branches this year in Al Thumama and Rawdat Ekdeem. The aforementioned stores will be opening their doors weeks apart, one following the next, after obtaining the necessary approvals and licenses from the relevant authorities. This comes after the opening of seven stores this year in Muaither, Al Azizia, Muraikh, the Gulf Mall, Thakhira, Jeryan Njeima and Al Wakra 2.

Within its framework to open 56 outlets in all areas of Qatar, Al Meera has begun the construction works on several other branches as part of its expansion strategy to construct 14 new shopping malls across the State, located in Sailiya North (Miarad), Bu Sidra, Al Wakra 3, Umm Salal Ali, Leabaib 1, Leabaib 2, Rawdat Aba El-Heran, Azghawa, Al Khor, Um Qarn, Rawdat Al Hamama, Jeryan Jenaihat, Al Sailiya and Ain Khaled.

It is worth mentioning that Al Meera signed a memorandum of understanding with Lusail Real Estate Development for the operation and management of two shopping centres in  Fox Hills and North Villas District.

Al Meera also plans to establish two additional branches, characterized by a unique design in Al-Jamiliyah and Al Shamal, and will continue opening other new branches whenever the opportunity presents itself.

It should be noted that there is constant coordination with the Ministry of Municipality and Urban Planning in order to act upon their suggestions while considering our requests in terms of new locations, such as Rawdat Al Hamam North, Al Sheehaniya North, Madkhal al Khuraib, Rawdat Rashed, Umm Al Umd, Al Khuraitiyat and others.
