Gary Philbin appointed Enterprise President of Dollar Tree, Inc. and Duncan Mac Naughton as President of the Family Dollar Banner

Gary Philbin, age 60, has been promoted to Enterprise President of Dollar Tree, Inc. In his new role, Mr. Philbin’s responsibilities will include store operations, merchandising, marketing and real estate across all banners including Dollar Tree, Family Dollar and Dollar Tree Canada. He will continue to report to Bob Sasser, Chief Executive Officer.

With more than 15 years at Dollar Tree, Mr. Philbin has served in numerous leadership capacities within the Dollar Tree, Dollar Tree Canada and Family Dollar banners. He most recently served as President and Chief Operating Officer of Family Dollar, where he oversaw the development of strategic initiatives and the successful achievement of budgetary, synergy, and transition goals following Dollar Tree’s acquisition of Family Dollar in July 2015. From 2007 to 2015, prior to the acquisition of Family Dollar, he served as President, Chief Operating Officer for the Dollar Tree banner. He began his career with Dollar Tree in 2001 as Senior Vice President of Stores.

Mr. Mac Naughton has more than 30 years of leadership experience in the food, grocery, mass merchant and specialty retail industries. He most recently served as Chief Executive Officer of Mills Fleet Farm. He has held numerous leadership roles at Wal-Mart Stores, Inc., including Chief Merchandising and Marketing Officer of Wal-Mart U.S. from 2011 to 2014, Executive Vice President of Consumables Healthand Wellness and Walmart.com from 2010 to 2011, and Chief Merchandising Officer of Wal-Mart Canada from 2009 to 2010. From 2006 to 2009, he served as Executive Vice President, Merchandising and Marketing for Supervalu, Inc., including serving as the Head of the Health and Wellness Division.

Walmart’s Pre-Black Friday Event begins Nov. 21 at 8:00 a.m.

Retailer Moves Up Additional Offers Typically Found on Black Friday to Pre-Event

BENTONVILLE, Ark., 2014-11-20 — /EPR Retail News/ — Walmart just upped the ante once again. For the second year, the retailer is lowering the prices on popular toys, electronics and more to match or beat select Black Friday offers from top national competitors one week early. Walmart’s Pre-Black Friday Event begins Friday, Nov. 21 at 8:00 a.m. and also gives customers an early taste of Walmart’s Black Friday prices by moving up items typically found on Black Friday.

“The retail environment is incredibly competitive and we know that our customers are looking to us for the lowest prices and great deals all season long,” said Duncan Mac Naughton, chief merchandising officer, Walmart U.S. “That’s why we’ve more than doubled the amount of items included in our Pre-Black Friday Event. Combined with our Black Friday weekend, there is absolutely no other place to shop this holiday season.”

Walmart’s Pre-Black Friday Event will kick off on Nov. 21 and run through Nov. 27, while supplies last.

Walmart unwraps its first round of 2014 holiday offerings

’Tis the Season for 20,000 Rollbacks, Free Shipping, 24-Hour Cyber Event and Savings Catcher with a Holiday Twist

Walmart is unwrapping its first round of 2014 holiday offerings, including the low prices it’s known for and its broadest assortment ever on the items customers need for gift-giving, decorating, family gatherings and every occasion in between.

On Nov. 1, the retailer will offer more than 20,000 Rollbacks on items including groceries and popular brands such as Disney “Frozen,” Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, Samsung, and Dell. Just two days later, Walmart is bringing back its popular 24-hour holiday cyber savings event. All season long, customers can take advantage of free shipping on millions of items* from Walmart.com.

“Helping families deliver an amazing Christmas doesn’t start on Black Friday, it starts now,” said Duncan Mac Naughton, chief merchandising officer, Walmart U.S. “As soon as they put away their Halloween costumes, our customers start prepping for Thanksgiving, buying Christmas trees and shopping for gifts. They want the best deals now and we’re here for them today, next week and throughout the season. Our strategy is simple: lead with low prices, offer the best brands, make shopping easier than ever and bring the holiday joy that only Walmart can deliver.”

Walmart has expanded its digital shelves to include 7 million items – one million more than last holiday season. Deals typically reserved for Black Friday and Cyber Monday start on Walmart.com shortly after midnight Pacific Time on Monday, Nov. 3. They include:

In addition, Walmart has rolled out another new feature within its mobile app. With “Search My Store,” customers can search for nearly any item carried in a Walmart store and see the item’s availability at that store, its aisle location, ratings and reviews.

“Search My Store” is currently available on Android devices and expands to iPhones by mid-November.

Holiday Inspiration and Convenience
