EuroShop 2017: 2,368 exhibitors and 113,000 visitors from all over the world

Lines are now open for exhibitors to apply online

DUSSELDORF, Germany, 2017-Oct-24 — /EPR Retail News/ — This year’s EuroShop – the World’s No. 1 Retail Trade Fair – presented itself for the first time with a new concept: 7 dimensions of experience. This forward-looking change was honoured by exhibitors and visitors alike. With 2,368 exhibitors on 127,000 sqm of net space and over 113,000 visitors from all over the world, EuroShop achieved the best result in its 50-year history.

For the trade fair organisers in Düsseldorf it goes without saying that they mustn’t rest on their laurels, that they need to keep in touch with the latest trends and that it’s important to identify market developments in good time. This is why arrangements are already being made for the next EuroShop. In 2020 the seven existing dimensions (Shop Fitting & Store Design, Visual Merchandising, Lighting, Retail Marketing, Retail Technology, Refrigeration & Energy Management and Expo & Event Marketing) will have another one added to them. This 8th dimension at EuroShop will be called Food Service Equipment.

After all, it is becoming obvious at the moment that food service facilities in and around retail stores are gathering momentum. Much planning and many refurbishment projects at food retail stores are currently moving towards adding in-store facilities of this kind. The share of cafés and restaurants in shopping centres is rising, filling stations are offering food for immediate consumption, department stores are setting up themed restaurants that merge into a given environment, and we are seeing an increase in food and beverage services that play a major role in making customers feel happy and welcome.

The EHI Retail Institute, a promotional supporter of EuroShop, has just created the In-store Food Service Initiative with the intention of providing retailers in German-speaking countries with comprehensive information and networking platforms on the subject on a neutral basis. Challenges, trends and best practice examples will be published in the EHI retail magazine stores & shops. An initial study of the size and dynamics of the market, including a retailers’ survey, will be presented in March 2018, and the first convention on in-store food service facilities will take place on June, 26 and 27 next year in Düsseldorf.

It is therefore clearly a booming, up-and-coming market that has its own very special requirements in terms of equipment and design. And so it seems obvious that EuroShop, which covers all the capital goods requirements of the retail trade, should now also have a specially dedicated dimension with the focus on food service equipment. Although FoodTech was already included within the Energy Management dimension at EuroShop, it is reasonable to follow the rise in demand and to set up a separate dimension, Food Service Equipment, which will expand the current range considerably.

Exhibitors are now welcome to apply for this dimension, and indeed for all other dimensions at EuroShop 2020. Application forms for the next EuroShop in Düsseldorf (16 to 20 February 2020) can be downloaded from the EuroShop website:

Wincor Nixdorf once again honoured with Top Retail Supplier award

Paderborn, Germany, 2016-Jun-15 — /EPR Retail News/ — Having won the Top Retail Supplier award in 2015, Wincor Nixdorf has won it again this year. This award is conferred on IT companies that offer retailers an overall package of excellent solutions, and is run by Frankfurt-based Lebensmittelzeitung, a newspaper for the grocery segment, and by Cologne-based EHI Retail Institute.

The Top Retail Supplier award goes, in particular, to those IT service providers who have excelled at the “retail technology awards europe”. For nine years now, these awards have been conferred by EHI for outstanding IT projects in the retail sector. The Polish subsidiary of McDonald’s, the US fast food group, won in the Best Instore Solution category this year. Together with Wincor Nixdorf as its IT partner, McDonald’s has developed an interactive kiosk terminal at which guests can choose their meals and pay by card. The food is then served directly at the table. This minimizes service times and creates a new service experience. McDonald’s Poland is the first of the company’s European subsidiaries to introduce this IT-based Create Your Taste solution for its customers.

Another award went to Coop Switzerland at “retail technology awards europe” – also in the Best Instore Solution category. As part of its service, this cooperative company offers its customers various scanning and checkout options. In many supermarkets and megastores, customers can scan items using either the hand-held scanners provided at the entrance or their own smartphones. On top of that, Coop customers have the choice between attended and self-service checkouts. As an IT partner of Coop Switzerland, Wincor Nixdorf has provided self-checkout systems that are tailored to Coop’s specific requirements.

theLast year, awards were already conferred on companies cooperating with Wincor Nixdorf – for instance Kiabi, the French fashion retailer, and Lunar GmbH, the IT subsidiary of Edeka, which is the largest grocery chain in Germany. These two companies have also implemented pioneering technology projects in conjunction with Wincor Nixdorf. As a result, Wincor Nixdorf is the record award winner at the “retail technology awards europe”.

Daniel Ochs, Head of Sales at Lebensmittelzeitung, presented the Top Retail Supplier 2016 award to Thomas Fell, who is the member of Wincor Nixdorf’s Executive Board in charge of global IT business with retailers, in May 2016. “We are very pleased to receive this award again and view it as a confirmation of our work to date. At the same time, it represents a challenge to continue providing retail businesses around the world with innovative, intelligent, useful solutions for streamlining business processes and optimizing customer service concepts,” said Thomas Fell during the award ceremony at Wincor Nixdorf’s head office in Paderborn, Germany.

Wincor Nixdorf named “Top Supplier Retail” for 2015 by the EHI Retail Institute in Cologne

EHI Retail Institute award

Paderborn, Germany, 2015-8-6— /EPR Retail News/ — The “Top Supplier Retail” award was conferred this year by the EHI Retail Institute in Cologne for the first time.

This new award honors the entire range of excellent services and solutions that an IT partner makes available to retail businesses. Wincor Nixdorf was named a “Top Supplier Retail” in this very first year of the award, and EHI Managing Director Michael Gerling presented Wincor Nixdorf with the certificate recently at the company’s headquarters in Paderborn.

Thomas Fell, who is a member of the Executive Board of Wincor Nixdorf and is responsible for its worldwide IT business with retail companies, noted: “We are very pleased to receive this award and view it as a confirmation of our work to date. At the same time, it represents a challenge to continue providing retail businesses around the world with innovative, intelligent, useful solutions for streamlining business processes and optimizing customer service concepts.”

The “Top Supplier Retail” award distinguishes those IT service providers who have excelled at the “retail technology awards europe”.

These awards have been made by the EHI for eight years now for outstanding IT projects in the retail sector. In February 2015, two projects were honored for which Wincor Nixdorf is the IT partner of the prizewinning retail company. The prize for “Best Multichannel Solution” went to the French fashion retailer Kiabi. As Kiabi’s IT partner in a comprehensive multichannel project, Wincor Nixdorf installed a modern store software at approximately 3,200 Kiabi checkout stations that integrates the online and offline worlds. The prize in the “Best Enterprise Solution” category went to Lunar GmbH, the IT subsidiary of Edeka, Germany’s largest food retailer. Wincor Nixdorf developed a checkout simulation pool for Lunar that analyzes checkout processes in detail on the basis of genuine POS data.

French fashion retailer Kiabi won 2 retail technology awards for IT projects carried by Wincor Nixdorf

Wincor Nixdorf successful as IT partner for retail

Paderborn, Germany, 2015-2-24 — /EPR Retail News/ — This year, two of the coveted “retail technology awards europe” went to projects for which Wincor Nixdorf is the IT partner of the retail company that received the award.

The “retail technology awards europe” are presented by the EHI Retail Institute for outstanding, innovative IT solutions in the retail sector. The winners are selected from a number of submissions by a jury of renowned representatives from industry, universities and research institutes. Prizes are awarded in four categories: Best Instore Solution, Best Enterprise Solution, Best Customer Experience and, for the first time this year, Best Multichannel Solution. The awards were presented on February 24, 2015 at a gala evening as part of the EuroShop / EuroCIS trade fair.

The prize for Best Multichannel Solution went to the French fashion retailer Kiabi, which operates more than 450 stores in France, Spain, Italy, Portugal, Morocco and Russia. Kiabi positions itself rigorously as a multichannel retailer in order to offer its customers a seamless shopping experience across all its sales channels. For example, customers can visit the company’s bricks-and-mortar stores to collect, exchange, or return items they have ordered in Kiabi’s webshop. They can also order items in the store using a touch terminal installed there. Part of the high-tech shopping experience is the equipment issued to Kiabi employees that allows them to accept customer payments anytime, anywhere. Wincor Nixdorf is Kiabi’s IT partner for implementing this multichannel project: Its modern retail store software TP.net 4.5 was installed at approximately 3,200 Kiabi POS stations, the retailer’s online and offline worlds were integrated, and all of its requirements for multichannel retail business with regard to functionality, architecture and an international orientation were met. Among other things, a consistent flow of data between sales and merchandise management is secured so that, for example, order processes and item availability can be coordinated across channels. Moreover, the stationary checkout systems in Kiabi’s stores are connected to a variety of mobile applications on end devices running iOS and Android operating systems, and the integration of POS peripheral devices in mobile processes is ensured.

The category Best Enterprise Solution rewards projects that lead to significant increases in a company’s efficiency through the implementation of innovative systems and technologies. This award was garnered this year by the Edeka Group. As Edeka’s IT subsidiary, Lunar GmbH has taken on the task of optimizing Edeka’s business processes at retail, wholesale and headquarters level, including ensuring effective processes at checkout. Lunar’s IT partner, Wincor Nixdorf, worked closely with Lunar to develop a checkout simulation tool that uses genuine POS data to reconstruct, simulate, and analyze checkout processes in detail on a computer. All the relevant variables flow into these simulations, from customer structures to volumes of merchandise purchased, scanning processes, and even cash handling. The process enables predictions on the expected capacity utilization of the checkouts, their throughput, and even customer waiting time. Through comparisons of available checkout technologies, (staffed checkout, self-service checkout, mobile checkout or tunnel scanner) it is possible to determine which checkout structures and technologies ensure the most effective checkout processes and support the retailer’s strategy optimally. The Edeka Group uses this simulation instrument to make informed decisions about checkout equipment for the situation in a specific market.
