Ireland’s largest convenience and fuel retailer Topaz Energy Group Ltd to be acquired by Canadian company Alimentation Couche-Tard

DUBLIN, Ireland, 2015-12-4 — /EPR Retail News/ — Topaz Energy Group Ltd, Ireland’s largest convenience and fuel retailer, is to be acquired by the publicly quoted Canadian company Alimentation Couche-Tard (known as Couche-Tard).

The two companies signed an agreement today that will lead to the acquisition by the Canadian company of Topaz Energy Group Ltd together with linked companies Resource Property Investment Fund plc and the recently-acquired Esso Ireland Ltd (collectively referred to as Topaz).  The transaction is expected to close in Spring 2016, subject to the usual regulatory approvals and closing conditions.

Couche-Tard is one of the world’s leading convenience and fuel retail businesses.  The company has approximately 15,000 sites across its network in North America (U.S. and Canada), Europe (Norway, Sweden, Denmark, Poland, the Baltics and Russia), Asia and the Middle East.  Approximately 100,000 people are employed in its network across the world.

Topaz is Ireland’s largest convenience store and fuel retail business.  Its network includes 464 service stations, 162 of which are company owned and a commercial fuels operation with over 30 depots.  The business employs over 2,000 people across the island of Ireland.

Ireland: Competition and Consumer Protection Commission approved Topaz’s purchase of Esso Ireland’s fuels and convenience business in Ireland

Dublin, Ireland, 2015-10-19 — /EPR Retail News/ — Emmet O’Neill, Chief Executive of Topaz Energy Limited (Topaz), has welcomed today’s decision by the Competition and Consumer Protection Commission (CCPC) to approve the purchase of Esso Ireland’s fuels and convenience business in Ireland.

The deal will see the Esso businesses [Esso Ireland Ltd and its wholly owned subsidiaries, Ireland ROC Ltd and Esso Ireland Manufacturing Company Ltd] acquired by Topaz Investments Ltd. the parent company of Topaz Energy Limited.

Following the acquisition the Topaz network will extend to 425 service stations; 162 of which will be company owned.  The business will have a presence in every county on the island of Ireland.  Topaz also has market leading home heating and commercial and aviation fuel supply businesses.

Following the transaction Topaz will have a turnover of approximately €3.5 billion and will employ approximately 2,000 staff.  The company will be one of the top 10 largest companies in Ireland.

Topaz Chief Executive, Emmet O’Neill, said the deal cemented the position of the company in the Irish market; “in just 10 years Topaz has successfully taken on and bought out the Irish retail businesses of three of the largest oil companies in the world (Shell, Statoil and now Esso) to create a truly significant and innovative Irish business and a major Irish employer.  This deal adds real substance to our operations here.  It will bring our employee numbers in Ireland to 2,000 and we believe there is real scope to develop this business further through innovations like our Re.Store convenience stores and our partnership with Rockets in the years ahead.“

The deal will close formally on December 1st.

45 new jobs to be created as part of an 11.4 million investment

Dublin, Ireland, 2015-10-9 — /EPR Retail News/ — Topaz, Ireland’s largest fuel and convenience brand, has announced a €11.4 million investment which will see them introduce Ireland’s newest fresh, urban food concept, Rocket’s to 40 forecourts nationwide. The rollout, which will take place over a seven year period, will result in the creation of 45 direct jobs in 2015.

The first Rocket’s at Topaz concept has been launched at Topaz in Douglas, Co. Cork and sites at Dublin Port and Brennanstown, Co Wicklow will be serving the best in fresh quality food to Topaz customers before the end of 2015. A further 15 outlets will be rolled out throughout 2016.

Rocket’s is a new fast casual way to enjoy the best hamburgers around.

The concept has been designed with forecourts in mind and will offer Topaz customers the most innovative forecourt dining experience in Ireland.

With an emphasis on the best quality fresh ingredients, all hamburgers are made using 100% natural, freshly ground Irish beef. The new offering will also serve up unique and portable, freshly-made salads, hotdogs, tenders and milkshakes. All menu options are freshly made-to-order with a speedy service guaranteed.
