17th annual Hannaford Helps Schools campaign raised $640,000 for more than 1,500 local schools

Scarborough, Maine, 2017-May-10 — /EPR Retail News/ — Hannaford Supermarkets today (May 9, 2017) announced that the 17th annual Hannaford Helps Schools campaign has raised $640,000 for local schools in Maine, New Hampshire, Vermont, New York and Massachusetts.

More than 1,500 schools received funds that they can use to support their educational program — field trips, supplies, activities, or new playground equipment. Customers make the Hannaford donations possible when they purchase eligible products. Schools from kindergarten to grade 12 can participate.

“These funds make a big difference in extending the local budget so teachers and schools can provide a different kind of learning opportunity or do something extra for students,” said Hannaford Spokesman Eric Blom.

The top recipients in each state are:
Maine: Mabel I. Wilson School, Cumberland — $2,683
Massachusetts: Taunton High School, Taunton — $2,113
New Hampshire: Alton Central School, Alton — $2,314
New York: Duanesburg Middle School, Delanson — $2,914
Vermont: Milton Elementary School, Milton — $2,566

Customers earned $3 for their local school when they purchased four participating products.  The program generated $441,894 in these donations, and the top-raising school at each store received $1,000 bonus checks from Hannaford.  Overall, the program contributed $640,894 to local education this year.

Since its inception, Hannaford Helps Schools has raised $10.3 million for schools in New England and New York.

Hannaford’s Help Fight Hunger Campaign raises $1.3M For Local Pantries and Food Banks

Scarborough, Maine, 2017-Mar-21 — /EPR Retail News/ — Hannaford Supermarkets today (03/15/2017) announced that it will soon deliver more than 11,500 cases of food to hunger relief organizations, as the final piece of its Hannaford Helps Fight Hunger campaign.  The program raised more than $1.3 in food and cash for local pantries and food banks.

The upcoming deliveries to food banks include more than 21,000 cans of vegetables, 7,000 boxes of oat cereal, 15,000 jars of peanut butter and 17,000 boxes of spaghetti.  The donations take place at a time of year when many pantries and food banks see a dip in donations.

In addition to these donations, Hannaford Helps Fight Hunger generated $1 million in food staples for local pantries through the sale of “Fight Hunger” boxes filled with nutritious items and another $58,000 in cash donations.  Hannaford also donated more than $100,000 to local food pantries, giving money to organizations in each of the communities served by Hannaford.

“Hannaford Supermarkets is committed to working throughout the year with local food pantries and food banks in Maine, New Hampshire, Vermont, New York and Massachusetts to ensure all those who are at risk of going hungry have access to the nutritious food they need,” said Eric Blom, Hannaford spokesman.  “We are proud that this donation of 11,558 cases of food will provide thousands of meals to those who are struggling financially.”

The program took place during the 2016 holiday season.  Hannaford Helps Fight Hunger holiday campaigns have raised more than $7.8 million in food and cash since it began in 2008.

Hannaford Supermarkets launch charitable campaign, Hannaford Helps Fight Hunger

SCARBOROUGH, Maine, 2016-Nov-11 — /EPR Retail News/ — Hannaford Supermarkets today (November 10, 2016) announced the 2016 launch of Hannaford Helps Fight Hunger, a charitable campaign focused on helping feed individuals who do not have access to enough nutritious food.

Hannaford Helps Fight Hunger is a partnership between the supermarket and its customers in Maine, New Hampshire, Vermont, Massachusetts and New York to provide food and monetary donations to local pantries and regional food banks. Donations benefit the nearly one in seven Americans – 42.2 million people — who do not have access to all the nutritious food they need.

Last year, Hannaford Helps Fight Hunger generated enough food and cash donations to purchase 679,000 meals for individuals at risk of going hungry in the Northeast.

“This program makes it convenient for Hannaford customers to support neighbors who are struggling,” said Eric Blom, company spokesman. “At a time when the need continues to grow, Hannaford Helps Fight Hunger allows people to make donations right at the supermarket and purchase food items that trigger matching donations by Hannaford.”

Hannaford Helps Fight Hunger has three parts:

Hannaford Helps Fight Hunger Boxes: Customers purchase a box of food staples for $10, and choose whether to have the box delivered to the local pantry or to donate it personally. With every box purchased, customers receive a coupon book containing $21 in coupons.
Register Donation: Throughout the month of December, customers may donate money to a local food pantry, in $5 increments, right at the register. Donors will receive a coupon book containing $21 in coupons.
Buy One, Give One: For four weeks, starting Nov. 20 customers can trigger Hannaford donations to food banks by purchasing a particular product on specific days. For each item purchased, Hannaford will donate an identical product to the state or regional food bank.

“Hannaford works all year to help fight hunger in the communities we serve, with regular donations, awareness efforts and other support,” Blom said. “We are particularly proud of the generosity shown by customers during the holiday season through Hannaford Helps Fight Hunger.”

Since 2008, Hannaford Helps Fight Hunger has contributed a total of more than $7.7 million in food, customer cash gifts and Hannaford cash donations to local food pantries and food banks.
