Retail Industry Leaders Association praised nominations of Marvin Kaplan and William Emanuel to the NLRB

Arlington , VA, 2017-Jul-03 — /EPR Retail News/ — Today (June 28, 2017), the Retail Industry Leaders Association (RILA) praised the nominations of Marvin Kaplan and William Emanuel to the National Labor Relations Board (NLRB). President Trump nominated Kaplan who currently serves as a counsel at the Occupational Safety and Health Review Commission and Emanuel, an attorney with the law firm Littler Mendelson.

“We are thrilled to see Marvin and William nominated to the NLRB. A full and complete NLRB has been one of the top priorities for companies that are grappling with the misguided decisions of the previous Board,” said Evan Armstrong RILA’s Vice President of Government Affairs. “The Board’s decisions that created micro unions, ambush elections, and a new joint employer standard threaten the flexibility and upward mobility that retail employees value. It is critical that the Board is made whole so it can begin the important work to interpret the law in a way that supports innovation, growth, and opportunity. We encourage Senate leadership to move swiftly and look forward to a smooth and seamless confirmation process.”

RILA: We welcome today’s ruling blocking the implementation of new U.S. DOL overtime regulations

Arlington , VA, 2016-Nov-23 — /EPR Retail News/ — The Retail Industry Leaders Association (RILA) issued the following statement in response to an injunction issued late today by a federal judge blocking the implementation of new U.S. Department of Labor (DOL) overtime regulations.

“We welcome today’s ruling. As RILA has argued since the final rule was announced earlier this year, the DOL over reached beyond their authority increasing the threshold too much, too fast,” said Evan Armstrong, vice president for government affairs. “We will continue to monitor the appeal process with a focus on ensuring that employees are able to maintain the flexibility and upward mobility that they value.”

RILA detailed its objections to the proposed rule in comments submitted to DOL last year.

RILA is the trade association of the world’s largest and most innovative retail companies. RILA members include more than 200 retailers, product manufacturers, and service suppliers, which together account for more than $1.5 trillion in annual sales, millions of American jobs and more than 100,000 stores, manufacturing facilities and distribution centers domestically and abroad.

Armstrong will lead advocacy efforts related to workforce and employment issues before Congress and federal agencies, including the Department of Labor (DOL), the EEOC and NLRB.

Armstrong brings years of experience on Capitol Hill to the new job. For the past two years, Armstrong served as Legislative Counsel to Rep. Tim Walberg (R-MI). In this role, Armstrong was responsible for advising Rep. Walberg on all issues related to workforce policies, as Rep. Walberg serves as the Chairman of the Subcommittee on Workforce Protections for the House Committee on Education and the Workforce. Prior to joining Rep.
