NACS to advance its advocacy, events and education with SwiftIQ partnership

ALEXANDRIA, VA, 2017-Jul-06 — /EPR Retail News/ — The Association for Convenience and Fuel Retailing (NACS) and SwiftIQ, a leading retail insights, execution and measurement platform, have announced a strategic alliance.

The alliance, initially publicized at the NACS State of the Industry Summit in April, will advance NACS advocacy, events and education by bringing significant shopper, merchandising, data integrity and supply chain insights to the convenience marketplace to help retailers and their suppliers enhance food bundles, improve product offerings and gain operational improvements to drive cash flow.

“Swift IQ’s ability to analyze billions of retail transactions on-demand, including basket-level performance, foodservice, promotions, item correlations, size, seasonality and dayparts will bring an unmatched level of granularity and help convenience retailers gain tremendous benchmarks for success,” said Dae Kim, NACS vice president of research about the partnership.

“Considering the pace of the technological change in the industry, the need for basket-level data and continuous measurement of category management, promotions and supply chain initiatives is greater now more than ever. The ability to utilize artificial intelligence applications and basket-level data to optimize merchandising, foodservice and out-of-stocks is more important than ever,” explained Jason Lobel, CEO and Co-Founder of SwiftIQ. “We have worked with several top convenience chains are very excited to further our collaboration with NACS to help the community understand and leverage the power of basket-level data to drive business value.”

SwiftIQ data will complement NACS’s existing suite of data products: CSX, an online database that lets users benchmark and compare financial performance and operating trends against industry averages, and CTP, a program that conducts shopper intercepts on-site at retail locations to capture actionable insights based on customer perception, opportunity gaps and conversion rates for specific categories as well as effective forms of promotion that customers find engaging.

NACS advances the role of convenience stores as positive economic, social and philanthropic contributors to the communities they serve. The U.S. convenience store industry, with more than 154,000 stores nationwide selling fuel, food and merchandise, serves 160 million customers daily—half of the U.S. population—and has sales that are 10.8% of total U.S. retail and foodservice sales. NACS has 2,100 retailer and 1,750 supplier members from more than 50 countries.

Colruyt Group’s “Recycle” Tricycle Designed To Collect Litter at Events

Halle, Belgium, 2017-Jun-19 — /EPR Retail News/ — Event organisers who want to ban litter, can borrow an electrical ‘Recycle’ tricycle from Colruyt Group’s environment service free of charge. This Belgian novelty was designed to clean up waste separately at events. The tricycle was used for the first time at the children’s art festival SuperVliegSuperMouche in the Park of Forest. “With the Recycle we want to stimulate people not to leave litter behind”, says Goedele Daems, environment co-ordinator at Colruyt Group. “And we take another step in our more general action plan ‘Joining hands for less street litter’.”

Containers and accessories

The Recycle is equipped with containers for PMD, residual waste and glass and has the necessary accessories for the volunteers on board: brush, dustpan, grabbers, vests and gloves. Today Colruyt Group has 5 bikes freely available to event organisers who want to ban litter and commit to collecting the waste separately. Goedele Daems: “We also loan the Recycles to associations that organise a clean-up action, deliver them for free and collect them afterwards. The organiser has to provide the bike-riders.”

First time at children’s art festival at Forest

The Recycle had its official premiere during the free children’s art festival SuperVliegSuperMouche last Sunday in the Park of Forest. “Ideal surroundings”, says Goedele Daems, “since the organisation wanted to make it a green festival and make the young visitors conscious about litter while they play.” The organiser was also enthusiastic about the new carrier tricycles.

Reservations

Organisers and associations interested in booking the Recycle can send a mail with subject ‘Recycle’ to bikes@colruytgroup.com, at least 14 days

SEATTLE, 2017-May-18 — /EPR Retail News/ — Momentum ™ Indoor Climbing and national outdoor co-op REI announce the launch of REI Co-op Climb, a destination for the best climbing gear, programming and events at each of Momentum’s new gyms. REI Co-op Climb will debut inside Momentum Katy when the 36,000 square foot gym opens its doors on Saturday, July 15, 2017. Momentum Silver Street will also feature an REI Co-op Climb; the 40,000 square foot bouldering gym near downtown Houston is slated to open later this year.

“REI is a visionary company dedicated to improving people’s lives through outdoor experiences and education,” said Jeff Pedersen, Momentum CEO and co-founder. “Momentum is committed to building better climbers at our world-class climbing facilities, and we look forward to aligning our Climbing School offering with that of REI Outdoor School. The co-op is an ideal partner to further our vision, by providing Momentum climbers with a gateway to memorable outdoor experiences.”

REI Co-op Climb will serve as a destination for the best climbing gear, programming and events at each of Momentum’s new gyms. Expert instructors from REI’s Outdoor School will help Momentum members and guests gain skills and confidence through gym to crag classes. Classes range from beginner to advanced levels and include Learn to Climb, Learn to Rappel, Sport Climbing Anchors and Climbing Rescue Techniques. REI members who participate in the Learn to Climb program will receive two weeks free climbing at Momentum so that they can fully experience the new gyms. To register for a class or program, visit https://www.rei.com/katy-climb-shop.

“REI has a rich climbing heritage thanks to our founders’ vision to be among the first to bring world class climbing equipment to the American market. We are excited to partner with Momentum to introduce REI Co-op Climb. These gyms are an important resource for avid climbers, and they’re an onramp for getting more people into the sport,” said John Sheppard, REI’s divisional vice president, experiential programs and new ventures. “As a respected climber’s gym, Momentum also shares our ethos around education, and we look forward to introducing more individuals and youth to the growing climbing community.”

REI has had a retail presence in the Houston area since 1996 and today operates three stores in the region, including downtown Houston, Baybrook and Willowbrook. The company also has three locations in the Austin area. REI Outdoor School offers a range of classes and events, including introductory rock climbing at Reimers Ranch Park, a popular destination near Austin for outdoor climbing.

Education is at the core of REI’s purpose. Last year REI Outdoor School helped 350,000 people learn a new activity, brush up on their skills, or experience the outdoors in a unique way. As a different kind of company, the co-op shares the majority of its annual profits with the outdoor community, including local nonprofits working to increase access to and steward inspiring outdoor places.

According to Climbing Business Journal, 188 of the 414 indoor climbing gyms in the U.S. opened between 2010 and 2016, a rate of growth that is projected to continue.

Momentum Katy will be the one of the largest climbing gyms in the United States. The 36,000 square foot facility will offer over 29,000 square feet of rope climbing, bouldering, training walls and kids climbing. Industry leader Walltopia is building the gym’s climbing walls, which were designed by Momentum’s Salt Lake City design team. Momentum Katy will accommodate hundreds of climbers at once, and includes a 5,500 square foot cross training area, dedicated yoga studio, locker rooms and laptop work spaces. The second floor mezzanine will offer “auto-belay” climbing and party space, doubling as a viewing area for local and national level climbing competitions.

Momentum Silver Street is located at less than two miles from downtown Houston in a reconditioned warehouse surrounded by art studios, dining options and residential lofts. The facility will include bouldering, training space, a cardio room, and a yoga studio. The gym will also feature a youth specific climbing area, locker rooms and workspaces. As one of the largest bouldering gyms in the county, Momentum Silver Street will host major competitions.

QATAR, 2017-Feb-20 — /EPR Retail News/ — Stemming from its belief that a healthy mind lies in a healthy body, as well as from its keenness on spreading the culture of sports among the various segments of society, Al Meera Consumer Goods Company (Q.S.C) celebrated Qatar’s 6th National Sport Day (NSD) by supporting various competitions and events held at the Katara Cultural Village.

Al Meera’s role in the 2017 National Sport Day activities revolved around offering sports enthusiasts and participants of the event fresh fruits and water at different locations throughout Katara.

Alongside Al Meera, Katara Cultural Village offered its visitors an exhilarating open-air atmosphere for the National Sports Day, along with a diverse selection of events and sport activities on the beach front, which stemmed from the collaboration with more than 60 private and governmental entities, including the Ministry of Municipality and Environment (MME), the Community College of Qatar (CCQ), and Qatar University (QU) – with the support of the Internal Security Force (Lekhwiya).

The program featured sport booths presented by QU coaches, faculty and students and a health booth and healthy nutrition corner, through which visitors were briefed on the importance of daily exercise in leading happy and healthy lives. Moreover, the NSD program hosted physical fitness and sports training sessions, beach soccer and beach volleyball championships, and a paragliding show performed by the QU Air Sports Club.

The NSD celebration witnessed the active participation of Al Meera’s energetic workforce, who helped create a memorable experience for the participants, in the true spirit of National Sports Day’s call for claiming back one’s zest for an active life.

Al Meera also supported Make A Difference’s (M.A.D) Triathlon’s inaugural event – Katara Aquathlon 2017, with fruits, snacks and water, of which the event offered sports fanatics a fun, friendly and unique ‘swim & run’ experience while racing for the first time within the charming views of Katara Cultural Village, with a route epitomizing the Qatari culture and traditional architecture. The event was supported by Qatar Cycling and Triathlon Federation, and registration was free for all.

Dunkin’ Donuts and Baskin-Robbins celebrate rebranding of its community foundation with events to fight childhood hunger

CANTON, MA, 2016-Oct-19 — /EPR Retail News/ — With the newly-rebranded Joy in Childhood Foundation, Dunkin’ Donuts and Baskin-Robbins franchisees, crew members and employees are committing to improving the lives of sick and hungry children across the country by providing the simple joys of childhood to children whose lives are compromised by health and hunger issues. To celebrate the rebranding, the Joy in Childhood Foundation (formerly The Dunkin’ Donuts & Baskin-Robbins Community Foundation) is teaming up with nearly 70 Feeding America® member food banks nationwide to host volunteer events to fight children’s hunger during the third annual Week of Joy (formerly the Week of Service), October 17-21.

“The rebrand of our Foundation allows us to channel the incredible work of our operators into a mission that so closely aligns with the values of Dunkin’ Brands, our franchisees and our guests to make a meaningful difference in our communities,” said Nigel Travis, Chairman and CEO of Dunkin’ Brands. “The Joy in Childhood Foundation brings together all of our stakeholders and the best of our brands in a way that makes sense and ensures that children who face hunger or sickness have the support and essential services to find joy in their daily lives.”

The Foundation anticipates that over 1,500 Dunkin’ Donuts and Baskin-Robbins franchisees, crew members and corporate employees will volunteer upwards of 4,000 hours and provide hundreds of thousands of meals to kids and families in communities across the country.

“The Foundation has been an important partner to The Greater Boston Food Bank for well over 10 years,” said Suzanne Battit, Vice President, External Affairs and Advancement at The Greater Boston Food Bank, one of the organizations the Joy in Childhood Foundation supports through financial and volunteer activities. “Through the franchisee’s volunteer work and generous grants, the Foundation has provided more than 60,000 meals to families in need. Without partners like the Foundation, we would not be able to provide food for the one in four children across Eastern Massachusetts who are at risk of hunger. Year over year, the Foundation understands that no one should ever question where their next meal is coming from.”

This year’s Week of Joy coincides with the Foundation’s 10th anniversary. To deliver on the Joy in Childhood Foundation’s new mission, the Foundation will continue many of its existing partnerships on both the national and local levels —including its partnership with Feeding America and member food banks, children’s hospitals, and nonprofit organizations directly committed to serving sick and hungry kids.

“The heart of our organization is our franchisees and the communities they serve,” said Karen Raskopf, Chief Communications Officer at Dunkin’ Brands and Co-Chair of the Joy in Childhood Foundation. “Joy is in the DNA of our brands. By focusing the mission of the Foundation on joy, we have a powerful way of bringing all of our strengths together to make a positive impact in these communities.”

Following the Week of Joy, the Joy in Childhood Foundation will make its debut in Dunkin’ Donuts stores through the National Community Cups Program, running from November 1-30, 2016. During this time, guests will be invited to make a $1 donation to the Joy in Childhood Foundation at Dunkin’ Donuts and Dunkin’ Donuts/Baskin-Robbins multi-brand restaurants nationwide. The program will support the Joy in Childhood Foundation’s efforts to provide the simple joys of childhood to sick and hungry kids.
