Rite Aid pharmacies are currently stocked with flu shots

Camp Hill, Pa., 2018-Feb-15 — /EPR Retail News/ — In response to a flu season that health experts are calling one of the most severe in the past decade, Rite Aid is making sure its pharmacies are stocked with flu shots. The effort comes as the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) reported on Friday the highest rate of influenza-like illnesses since 2009 and the highest flu hospitalization rate since 2010, when the agency began keeping such records. The CDC also reported that between Jan. 28-Feb.3, 2018, flu and pneumonia accounted for 10% of deaths in the country.

“With the CDC reporting that we’ve not yet reached the peak of flu season and the potential for flu activity for several more weeks, we’re following the situation closely and making every effort to have flu shots available in all of our pharmacies,” says Jocelyn Konrad, Rite Aid executive vice president of pharmacy. “We encourage anyone who hasn’t yet received a flu shot to get one today and protect themselves and those around them for the duration of the flu season.”

Flu shots are currently available at all Rite Aid pharmacies and are covered by most insurance plans with $0 co-pay, including Medicare Part B. Rite Aid certified immunizing pharmacists are able to administer flu shots, subject to state regulations, during pharmacy hours; no appointment is necessary.

Since pneumonia can be a serious and sometimes deadly complication of the flu, especially for older adults, the CDC also recommends the pneumococcal vaccine for those 65 and over. Rite Aid pharmacies also have supplies of pneumococcal shots, which can be administered at the same time as the flu shot, subject to state regulations. Like flu shots, pneumococcal shots are covered by many insurance plans and most customers with Medicare Part B will have $0 co-pay.

To locate the nearest Rite Aid pharmacy, visit www.riteaid.com or call 1-800-RITE-AID.

Rite Aid pharmacies also have supplies of the prescription medications Tamiflu and Relenza for those patients whose doctor has prescribed one of these medications. If necessary, Rite Aid pharmacists are trained to be able to compound Tamiflu for pediatric patients.

In addition, Rite Aid pharmacists are available to counsel customers on over-the-counter medicines, like pain relievers, cough and cold medicines and hydration products that can be used to help manage symptoms associated with the flu. To help prevent the spread of the flu, Rite Aid store shelves are also stocked with additional supplies of hand sanitizer and soaps, masks, gloves, tissues and household disinfectants.

Rite Aid Corporation (NYSE: RAD) is one of the nation’s leading drugstore chains fiscal 2017 annual revenues of $32.8 billion. Information about Rite Aid, including corporate background and press releases, is available through the company’s website at www.riteaid.com.

National Influenza Vaccination Week: CVS Health encourages families to get their flu shots in preparation for peak flu season

WOONSOCKET, R.I., 2017-Dec-01 — /EPR Retail News/ — CVS Health (NYSE: CVS) is encouraging families to get their flu shots during National Influenza Vaccination Week (Dec. 3-9) in preparation for peak flu season. A recent survey released by CVS Health found that nearly two-thirds (61 percent) of Americans get a flu vaccine every year, or plan to get one this year. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) established National Influenza Vaccination Week (NIVW) in 2005 to remind people to get vaccinated through the busy holiday season and into the new year, when cases of the flu typically increase.

According to the CDC, only about 40 percent of the U.S. population reported having been vaccinated by the end of November last year. “National Influenza Vaccination Week is a great reminder to make time during the busy holiday season to get your annual flu shot,” said Papatya Tankut, Vice President of Pharmacy Affairs at CVS Health. “With many people gathering for the holidays and flu activity beginning to increase, getting vaccinated will help ensure a healthier holiday for you and your loved ones.”

The flu vaccine is the most effective way to prevent the flu and is considered a preventive service under the Affordable Care Act. The vaccine is fully covered and available at no cost through most insurance plans. With more than 9,700 CVS Pharmacy stores and 1,100 walk-in MinuteClinic locations accepting most insurance plans, CVS Health has made vaccinations quick, easy and accessible for patients.

This year’s flu survey sheds light on the increasing number of factors families consider when deciding where, when, and how to get vaccinated. Among those who have ever received a flu vaccine, the top considerations on where to receive the vaccine include convenience (37%), doctor recommendations (36%) and where insurance is accepted (35%).

The survey also revealed that nearly two in three (65 percent) employed Americans would still go to work even if they were feeling ill with flu-like symptoms.

“The influenza virus is highly contagious and can be easily spread through a workplace environment through direct contact with co-workers or infected surfaces,” said Angela Patterson, Chief Nurse Practitioner Officer at MinuteClinic. “Influenza infection can have potentially serious effects and getting vaccinated is vital to staying healthy, especially when working alongside co-workers who may have already contracted the virus.”

Getting the flu shot protects you and those around you who may be more vulnerable to serious flu illness, like babies and young children, older people, and people with certain chronic health conditions. With seasonal flu outbreaks beginning as early as October and lasting as late as May, it is not too late to get a flu shot as it is the best defense against getting the flu.

Flu shots are available seven days a week, with no appointment necessary at CVS Pharmacy and MinuteClinic locations nationwide, including locations inside select Target stores.1 Consumers can easily find the store closest to them using CVS.com or the CVS Pharmacy app, and for those patients planning to go to MinuteClinic for their flu shot, location information and current wait times can be found on the CVS Pharmacy app or MinuteClinic.com.

In addition, customers will receive a $5 off $25 coupon when they get a flu shot at CVS Pharmacy or MinuteClinic. Patients who receive a flu shot at CVS Pharmacy or MinuteClinic locations inside select Target stores will receive a $5 Target coupon.2

Kmart now offering flu shots and other back-to-school immunizations for the whole family

Kmart now offering flu shots and other back-to-school immunizations for the whole family

Pharmacies nationwide will offer no cost* flu shots

HOFFMAN ESTATES, Ill., 2017-Aug-30 — /EPR Retail News/ — Knocking back-to-school shopping off the to-do list isn’t the only thing families can do at Kmart this summer — they can also knock out the flu. Kmart is kicking off flu season with pharmacies fulfilling the promise of a one-stop, convenient health destination, offering flu shots and other back-to-school immunizations for the whole family.1

According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), influenza (flu) is a contagious respiratory illness caused by influenza viruses, which can cause mild to severe illness, or even more serious outcomes.2 The best way to prevent seasonal flu is to get vaccinated every year. By visiting a Kmart Pharmacy, customers can receive $0 [no cost] flu shots with most insurance plans* and with no appointment needed.

“Our message is simple this season – Kmart is offering a convenient, early start to knocking out the flu,” said Jennifer Speares Lehman, registered pharmacist and director for Kmart Pharmacy. “Many forget that back-to-school season means flu season isn’t far behind. As people prepare, we want to remind customers that Kmart can provide flu and other back-to-school immunizations to fulfill your family’s health needs.”

The CDC estimates that less than half of adults were vaccinated last flu season, with childhood rates just below 60 percent.3 Even more concerning is a poll sponsored by CityMD, an urgent care center network, that found 52 percent of adults aged 18-34 didn’t plan to get the flu shot during last year’s season, and 25 percent blamed cost as the main deterrent.4

The physical burden of flu is bad enough; however, the cost of catching flu can be staggering. A 2016 study from the University of North Carolina estimated that American adults sick with flu cost the economy about $5.8 billion annually in medical visits, medication and lost productivity.5 While catching the flu can be costly, Kmart believes knocking it out with a flu shot shouldn’t be, offering $0[no cost] flu shots with most insurance plans*.

Kmart’s commitment to its members doesn’t stop with administering flu shots. In an effort to offer a well-rounded health experience with Kmart’s “Care Beyond the Counter” approach, the pharmacy team helps customers select over the counter healthcare items. This is another reason why Kmart Pharmacy is ranked #1 in Customer Satisfaction, according to the American Customer Satisfaction Index.6

Macey’s, Lin’s, Dan’s, Dick’s Market and Fresh Market offer guests flu shots at the in-store pharmacy

Salt Lake City, UT, 2016-Oct-07 — /EPR Retail News/ — The flu and winter go together like peanut butter and jelly, but are a much less appetizing combo. Macey’s, Lin’s, Dan’s, Dick’s Market and Fresh Market are working to break up the unpleasant partnership by offering store guests flu shots at the in-store pharmacy. For a small fee, shoppers can get the vaccine by visiting the pharmacy at any store and speaking with the pharmacist. The program is designed to help keep guests healthy while saving them time, since they can get the shot when they come to grocery shop.

“Our pharmacies are focused on providing total wellness to our patients through a variety of consultations, classes and medications,” said Chris Sheard, Operations Manager for Associated Retail Operations pharmacies. “By offering flu shots to our guests, we are helping prevent the spread of the seasonal flu, which is something everyone can be happy about.”

The pharmacies have offered flu shots to shoppers since 2007 as a way to help protect against the seasonal illness. There is a small fee for the vaccine, but the pharmacies accept most insurance plans and the fee may be waived. The program is part of a larger initiative to provide total wellness care to patients in partnership with their primary care physician. Macey’s, Lin’s, Dan’s, Dick’s Market and Fresh Market operate 42 locations across Utah.

Wegmans offer employer on-site flu clinics to provide flu shots to employees

ROCHESTER, N.Y., 2016-Aug-19 — /EPR Retail News/ — With fall right around the corner, employers may see an increase in absenteeism as employees battle illness this flu season. According to Flu.gov, nearly 111 million workdays are lost due to the flu, equating to approximately $7 billion per year in sick days and lost productivity. While it’s impossible to eradicate the flu from the workplace, the Wegmans Pharmacy Business Partnership Program can help employers minimize the impact of seasonal flu on their workforce with its employer on-site flu clinics.

Wegmans makes it easy for employers to host an on-site flu clinic with simple online scheduling for employees to sign up for a flu shot timeslot, and the ability to bill individual plan sponsors or billing direct to employers. The employer on-site flu clinics are offered throughout all of Wegmans’ market areas, and provide flu shots to employees 18 years and older.

“Protecting our employees from the flu is important to us,” said Mike Stojkovic, Director of Wellness at the Rochester Institute of Technology. “The Wegmans Pharmacy team provides convenient, friendly service ensuring our employees get the care they need.”

According to the Center for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), an annual flu vaccine is the best way for individuals to protect themselves from seasonal flu. Yet, three out of every five people in the United States report not being vaccinated.

“Employers can help boost vaccination rates among their workforce by offering an on-site flu clinic, which gives employees easy access to the flu shot at little to no cost, and without leaving the office,” said Brian Pompo, Wegmans Pharmacy Business Relations Manager. “Even if an on-site flu clinic doesn’t make sense for an organization, employers play an important role in educating their employees on the importance of an annual flu shot and the resources available to them in their community.”

The flu vaccination for the 2016-2017 season is also available at all Wegmans Pharmacy locations. Customers can stop by the store pharmacy during normal business hours; no need for a prescription or appointment, and in most cases, the fee is covered by insurance in full.

“Millions of Americans come down with the flu every year, and by offering the employer on-site flu clinics and the flu vaccination in our pharmacies, we’re making it easy for those in our community to protect themselves from seasonal flu,” said Pompo

For more information about the Wegmans Pharmacy Business Partnership Program, contact Brian Pompo, Wegmans Pharmacy Business Relations Manager, at Brian.Pompo@wegmans.com.

Wegmans Pharmacy ranked “Highest in Customer Satisfaction Among Supermarket Pharmacies” by J.D. Power and Associates in 2015.  The study was based on 14,914 total responses.

Wegmans Food Markets, Inc. is a 90-store supermarket chain with stores in New York, Pennsylvania, New Jersey, Virginia, Maryland, and Massachusetts. The family-owned company, recognized as an industry leader and innovator, is celebrating its 100th anniversary in 2016. Rite Aid announces availability of flu shots at its pharmacies nationwide

Camp Hill, Pa., 2016-Aug-18 — /EPR Retail News/ — Rite Aid announced today the availability of seasonal flu shots at Rite Aid pharmacies nationwide. Customers can visit any of Rite Aid’s nearly 4,600 convenient pharmacy locations to receive a flu shot from a certified immunizing Rite Aid pharmacist, subject to state regulations. Flu shots are covered by most insurance plans, including Medicare Part B and are available during pharmacy hours; no appointment is necessary. To locate the nearest Rite Aid pharmacy, visit www.riteaid.com or call 1-800-RITE-AID.

“Immunizations play a key role in a person’s overall health and wellness year-round, but this is especially true when it comes to protecting oneself from the flu,” said Jocelyn Konrad, Rite Aid executive vice president of pharmacy. “With more than 11,000 immunizing pharmacists and thousands of locations across the country, getting a flu shot at Rite Aid is a convenient and easy way for people to make sure that they are protected.”

Rite Aid pharmacies offer a number of vaccine options that may include the trivalent flu vaccine, which offers protection against three strains of the flu: the influenza A H3N2 virus, the influenza B virus and the influenza A H1N1; a high-dose influenza vaccine for people age 65 and older, and a quadrivalent vaccine which protects against an additional influenza B virus. Upon request, Rite Aid pharmacists can administer an intradermal flu shot, which uses a smaller needle that is injected into the skin instead of the muscle, 18-64 years of age.

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) recommends that everyone six months and older get a flu vaccination as soon as it is available because it takes up to 14 days to develop full protection against the flu. While the CDC recommends flu shots for everyone over six months, certain groups of people are at greater risk for complications from the flu. These groups include: people with diabetes, pregnant women, adults over 65, children under 5, those with asthma and other chronic lung diseases, those with kidney and liver disorders, heart disease patients and those with compromised immune systems.

Added Konrad, “We also encourage people to use flu season as an opportunity to review their immunization history and need for other vaccinations. Rite Aid pharmacists can review a person’s immunization history and make recommendations for additional vaccinations based on the individual’s unique needs.”

Additional Immunization Needs

Receiving the annual flu shot also presents an opportunity to review other immunization needs. Subject to state regulations, Rite Aid pharmacists are able to administer vaccines that protect against tetanus/diphtheria/pertussis (Tdap), as well as pneumonia, and shingles at the same time as the seasonal flu shot. One dose of Tdap is routinely given at age 11 or 12, and the CDC recommends a Td (tetanus/diphtheria) booster be administered every 10 years. The CDC also recommends a pneumococcal vaccine for those 65 and older and the shingles vaccine for people aged 60 and older. To better understand personal immunization needs, customers can visit Rite Aid’s Vaccine Central at www.riteaid.com/vaccinecentral, to complete an immunization evaluation, track their personal immunization history, and find other educational resources on immunizations.
Shield Your Workforce Against the Flu

To help employers fight the flu, Rite Aid will once again have a team dedicated to planning and implementing onsite workplace flu clinics staffed by certified immunizing Rite Aid pharmacists. Rite Aid is also able to offer employers a voucher program, in which employees would receive a flu shot voucher to use at any Rite Aid pharmacy. In addition, immunizations against other vaccine preventable diseases are also available for employees, subject to state regulations. For more information, employers can visit www.shieldmyworkforce.com  or call 1-800-622-2106.

With millions of newly insured Americans having gained coverage the past two years, more than 90 percent of those receiving flu shots at Walgreens points of care now have their immunization covered under some form of insurance, often with no co-pay or other out-of-pocket cost. Flu shots are covered for eligible patients under Medicare Part B as well as a vast majority of insurance plans.

“For nearly a decade, Walgreens has been administering flu shots to help protect our patients, customers and those around them throughout the flu season,” said Richard Ashworth, Walgreens president of pharmacy and retail operations. “With unprecedented convenience and broader coverage than ever before from health plans and insurers, it’s not only the most important preventive measure you can take for flu season, it’s also now one of the easiest.”

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) recommends an annual flu shot for everyone over the age of 6 months as soon as the vaccine becomes available.

Walgreens points of care this season will offer a number of vaccine options that may include trivalent flu vaccine, a needle-free nasal alternative, a high-dose influenza vaccine for those over age 65 and a quadrivalent vaccine which protects against four strains of influenza.

Methodology

The Walgreens Flu Index is compiled using retail prescription data for antiviral medications used to treat influenza across Walgreens locations nationwide. The data is analyzed at state and geographic market levels to measure absolute impact and incremental change of antiviral medications on a per store average basis, and does not include markets in which Walgreens has fewer than 20 retail locations.

The Flu Index is not intended to illustrate levels or severity of flu activity, but rather, illustrate which populations are experiencing the highest incidence of flu.

Flu shots conveniently available at all Roundy’s pharmacies

CDC urges that it’s not too late to get vaccinated during peak flu season

MILWAUKEE, WI, 2014-12-5 — /EPR Retail News/ — As we are in the midst of the flu, and holiday, season, Roundy’s stores – Pick ‘n Save, Copps, Metro Market and Mariano’s – are conveniently making flu shots available at all pharmacies, with no appointment needed during all pharmacy operating hours.

All Roundy’s pharmacies have certified immunizers on staff and are available to administer the traditional flu vaccine and the HD vaccine for patients ages 65 and older. For added convenience, customers can simply stop by the pharmacy during their weekly grocery shopping, and pharmacists can administer the vaccinations in-store. Roundy’s flu shots are given at a regular price of $26.00, five dollars less than Walgreens.

Roundy’s flu shots will protect against A/California/7/2009(H1N1)pdm09-like virus, A/Texas/50/2012(H3N2)-like virus, and B/Massachusetts/d/2012-like virus. There will also be a Quadrivalent vaccine available that protects against the additional B virus B/Brisbane/60/2008-like virus.

“We’re pleased that year after year more and more of our patients and customers take advantage of this advanced service that we offer,” said George Kowalski, RP, vice president Roundy’s Pharmacy. “We will be encouraging as many people as possible to protect themselves and their loved ones this year by getting their flu shot.”

The CDC recommends that all people aged 6 months and older receive a flu vaccine, as a yearly vaccination is the best way to protect against the flu. They also say that even though the holiday season has arrived, it is not too late to receive a flu vaccine. It takes two weeks for the antibodies to develop and provide protection. Flu season typically peaks in winter and can last a few months but virus activity is unpredictable year to year. However, immunity to the vaccination can be expected to last 6-8 months.

The vaccination is not a guarantee that the virus will not be contracted, but those that are vaccinated will experience a shorter duration of the illness and milder symptoms. Other flu prevention techniques include drinking plenty of water, washing hands frequently and thoroughly and getting an adequate amount of sleep each night.

For more information please visit the Pick ‘n Save, Copps, Metro Market or Mariano’s website for a list of pharmacies and their hours of operation.
