IKEA U.S. focuses on disadvantaged homeless at this year’s product donation program to the American Red Cross

Conshohocken, PA, 2017-May-16 — /EPR Retail News/ — Now in its third year, IKEA U.S. continues its product donation program to the American Red Cross running May 15th – 31st. This year, IKEA is focusing on the vulnerable and disadvantaged homeless in its 45 local markets through its donation of 4,500 ‘Care Kits for the Homeless.’ These kits consist of backpacks packed with necessity items such as a poncho, washcloths, towels, water and food. Each designated location will receive 100 ‘Care Kits for the Homeless’; backpacks, packed by IKEA co-workers to be distributed nationally.

“IKEA wants to help create a better life for the many people and communities touched by our business,” said Evamay Lawson, Head of IKEA US Community Affairs. “Through our partnership with the American Red Cross, we are hoping to extend a hand of help to the homeless families and individuals in our local communities without access to basic necessities.”

Last year, IKEA worked with the Red Cross and donated over 4,000 care packages for the Disaster Responder Program. These comfort care packages consisted of everyday home items, such as: sheets, pillows, towels and toys to help families get back on their feet.

“We are grateful for the IKEA partnership and their focus on helping homeless and vulnerable populations,” said Barb Larkin, American Red Cross Senior Director of Corporate Relationships. ”These kits will provide comfort to thousands of people – including support for the homeless veteran standowns that the Red Cross supports across the country and vulnerable people who have experienced emergencies.”

The Red Cross depends on the generous support of the American public to fulfil its crucial mission. By making a charitable donation to the Red Cross, you are there for millions of people who face emergencies every year and help as they rebuild their lives. Bartell Drugs and Union Gospel Mission to distribute “flu kits” and free flu shot vouchers to the homeless on October 12

SEATTLE, 2016-Oct-10 — /EPR Retail News/ — Bartell Drugs and Seattle’s Union Gospel Mission (UGM) have teamed to help protect the homeless and insecurely housed residents of the downtown core by distributing “flu kits” and vouchers for free flu immunizations.

Members of Bartell staff will join UGM’s Search and Rescue street team from 7:30 p.m. to 11:30 p.m. on Wednesday, October 12 to distribute these materials in Seattle downtown core, including the area known as “The Jungle” as well as the Chinatown-International district.

Many of us take for granted the small items we need when we have the cold or flu such as tissues, cough drops and pain relievers. But for community members that daily struggle with housing and other basic needs, these items can be nearly impossible to obtain. And affording flu shots can be even more challenging.

Along with each flu kit, Bartells is providing a voucher for a free flu vaccination at any one of our 65 locations in the Puget Sound area. By protecting all the residents of our region—especially those who may lack resources or opportunities—we are helping to protect everyone.

“As the oldest family-owned pharmacy in the United States, Bartell Drugs has been part of the Puget Sound community since 1890,” says President and CEO Brian Unmacht. “This means we have a deep connection to our neighborhoods as well as a responsibility to be a caring and convenient source of community health and wellness—especially individuals and families who may be struggling to meet basic needs.”

“We are excited by Bartells commitment to helping our community’s most vulnerable residents,” says Ralph Rowland, UGM’s vice president for community engagement. “By working with our night patrol street teams, we will be able to get needed items directly into the hands of those who need them, as well as the opportunity to further protect their health with the free flu vaccine vouchers.”

Both organizations hope to distribute more than 1,500 of the flu kits during this effort.

PetSmart and PetSmart Charities come to the aid of animals left homeless by the Louisiana floods

PHOENIX, 2016-Aug-23 — /EPR Retail News/ — PetSmart and PetSmart Charities are dedicated to helping pets and pet parents every day — especially during times of crisis. Through a dedicated emergency response effort, the leading pet specialty retailer in North America and its charitable nonprofit are coming to the aid of hundreds of animals left homeless by the Louisiana floods, which are being dubbed the worst natural disaster to hit the U.S. since Hurricane Sandy.

According to news reports, the rising water has forced more than 30,000 people to evacuate their homes. As well, hundreds of animals have been rescued with a high percentage of them being pets. Local animal welfare organizations are overwhelmed as they care for the rescued animals, providing shelter, food and care and working to reunite pet parents with their beloved pets. The emergency relief is in direct response to PetSmart and PetSmart Charities’ partners requesting the support.

Funded by PetSmart Charities, a large 28-pallet shipment of much-needed pet supplies such as pet food, cat litter, feeding bowls, leashes, crates and beds valued at more than $80,000 arrived from the PetSmart central region Distribution Center (DC) to Louisiana today. PetSmart DC associates worked round the clock to get the shipment out to those in need, while grant makers at PetSmart Charities worked diligently to provide more than $30,000 in financial support to local animal welfare organizations. The grants will help with the financial strain these nonprofits are facing due to the increased need to provide shelter, food and veterinary care for rescued animals.

About PetSmart Charities®
PetSmart Charities, Inc. is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit animal welfare organization that saves the lives of homeless pets. Each year nearly 500,000 dogs and cats find homes through our adoption program in all PetSmart® stores across the U.S. and sponsored adoption events. Each year millions of PetSmart shoppers generously contribute to pets in need by making donations directly to PetSmart Charities on a pin pad at the registers in PetSmart stores.  PetSmart Charities administers and efficiently uses 90 cents of every dollar of those donations by issuing grants and providing other support to help pets in need.  PetSmart Charities grants more money to directly help pets in need than any other animal welfare group in North America, with a focus on funding adoption and spay/neuter programs that help communities solve pet overpopulation. PetSmart Charities has received the Four Star Rating for the past 13 years from Charity Navigator, an independent nonprofit that reports on the effectiveness, accountability and transparency of nonprofits, placing it among the top one percent of charities rated by this organization.
