SPAR Hungary partner wins numerous industry-recognised awards

Hungary, 2017-Nov-29 — /EPR Retail News/ — SPAR Hungary continues to invest in different areas of the business, from launching new product ranges to rolling out new stores. Here we take a look at a few recent initiatives that are helping to grow the brand and that have led to the partner winning a number of industry-recognised awards.

Five year anniversary SPAR Partner License Programme

SPAR Hungary first launched the SPAR partner format in 2012. Today, a total of 133 SPAR license stores are operated throughout the country, providing employment to almost 1,500 people. The annual turnover of SPAR license stores amounts to over HUF 32 billion (just over €100 million). SPAR Hungary has an agreement with 109 SPAR retailers throughout the country and continues to welcome new independent retailers to the network.

New SPAR plant in Üllő

Construction is underway of a new plant for the preparation of mayonnaise, salads and sandwiches on the site of the existing SPAR logistics centre in the town of Üllő in central Hungary. The investment of more than HUF 1.2 billion (€3.8 million) includes HUF 250 million (€800.000) spent on technology and equipment. The facility will feature two packaging lines and complies with the highest level of food safety standards. It is the company’s short-term aim to supply quality products made in Üllő to all SPAR, INTERSPAR and SPAR Partner license stores in Hungary.

New vegan products launched

SPAR Hungary has expanded its range of plant-based products under the popular Veganz brand. The selection of more than 60 different products includes delicacies found in dedicated SPAR stores such as organic vegetable milk, natural sweeteners, seed creams, high-concentration protein powders and various confectionery and biscuit items.

SPAR Hungary celebrates an array of awards

The ongoing investments being made by SPAR Hungary are paying off with the partner winning numerous awards, reflecting recognition from the industry and customers.

Most recently, SPAR Hungary received awards at three professional competitions one of which was the Superbrands title, which it took home for the ninth time. The Superbrands programme is one of the most important international brand evaluation awards and is currently carried out in 90 countries. The competition puts the focus on customer feedback. After professional and financial screening of brands and evaluation by the expert panel of judges, an additional online brand recognition and popularity survey is conducted by a Market Research Institute. The award gives positive feedback on the brand, highlighting the best based on professional considerations.

SPAR Hungary also received prestigious acknowledgement at the SuperStore competitionorganised by Trade magazine and Trade Marketing Club, in which the Érd INTERSPAR store was ranked first in the hypermarket category. The Érd Hypermarket also came in second at Mastercard’s ‘Retailer of the Year’ competition, in the category Best customer experience.

“These awards mean huge recognition and confirmation for us, meaning that our efforts and investments for providing top quality services to our customers have paid off. During the last years, we carried out numerous investments enabling our customers to visit modern stores every day. This year, we will invest more than HUF 23 billion (€73 million) in the development of our retail chain,” said Márk Maczelka, Head of Communications at SPAR Hungary.

SPAR Hungary completes renewal and renovation of two supermarkets in Budapest as part of its store modernisation program

Hungary, 2017-Aug-04 — /EPR Retail News/ — SPAR Hungary recently renewed two stores in Budapest with a budget of more than 500 million HUF (€1.6 million).

The SPAR Partner is constantly monitoring and meeting customer demands and store modernisation forms an important part of this. During the first half of this year, SPAR Hungary implemented major developments in eight of its stores and has now completed the renewal and renovation of two supermarkets in the capital city. Both stores are located at busy crossroads in districts near residential and office buildings. They provide a modern working environment and a long-term livelihood to 36 employees.

The supermarket located at Rózsa street in District IV of Budapest was renewed with a budget of 399 million HUF (€1.3 million), according to the latest SPAR design concept. The reconstruction included the installation of a new curtain wall structure on the building facade, with the installation of a new canopy. The 851m² retail space was completely renewed, including new cooling equipment and furniture, cashiers and stands. A new bakery was added to the store, offering fresh, locally-made products. An automatic motion-sensor gate welcomes shoppers at the entrance, which leads to the fruit and vegetable department, then to the bakery and delicatessen counters. The building’s energy-efficiency has increased, and LED lighting and closed coolers have also helped to lower energy usage.

Additionally, SPAR Hungary invested 112 million HUF (€366,000) in the development of the SPAR store at Váci street in District XIII of Budapest. This store, located near a busy transport crossing, is popular among employees of the nearby offices. The investment included the renovation of the 168m² retail space with most of the equipment being replaced. New stands, shelves and cashiers were installed and most of the cooling equipment is new.

Hungary: More than 80 independent retailers have become members of SPAR since 2012

AMSTERDAM, The Netherlands, 2016-Oct-12 — /EPR Retail News/ — Since introducing sub-licencing, more than 80 independent retailers employing over 1,300 people have become members of SPAR, operating across the country. The majority of the stores trade in convenience locations and to date the combined annual turnover exceeds €97 million.

Launched in September 2012, four years on, there are over 80 SPAR retailers operating more than 100 SPAR stores. The SPAR principle of voluntary trading appeals to the retailers, who see many development opportunities for the future when partnering with the SPAR brand. The wide range of products, transportation of goods six days a week, extensive marketing support and promotions, as well as access to the modern IT system and the SuperShop loyalty programme are also factors for partnering with SPAR. Many of the retailers are experienced in food retail trading, having family businesses handed down for generations.

One of the most recent members are Gábor Bruzsa and Tímea Bruzsáné Révész who have opened one store in the Zugló district of Budapest this year but will open a second store in 2017, also in Budapest. Their adventure into retail started in 1992 and has grown into a passion for food retailing. Their decision to partner with SPAR came from reviewing opportunities within Hungary and learning from the SPAR business in Austria.

“The 500 m2 store has been completely renovated, implementing modern elements for a growing business. Dependent on consumer response, the reopening of the store may create up to eight new jobs”, said Erwin Schmuck, Managing Director of SPAR Hungary.

The vast range of products offered on the shelves is well-known in SPAR stores all around the country. Upon entering the store, customers first experience the range of fresh fruit and vegetables, a delicatessen counter, a counter of meat products and an open bakery. In addition to these areas, an extensive range of frozen products, packaged goods and dairy products are also offered to the customers. A total of about 4,000 products are available, including the majority of SPAR Own Brand products.
