UN recognises ICA for its Climate right project

Solna, Sweden, 2016-Sep-30 — /EPR Retail News/ — The UN today (2016, 29 September) announced that ICA has received an award for its Climate right project. The award will be presented in the middle of November at the UN Climate Change Conference in Marrakech, Morocco. Klimaträtt has helped and inspired the residents of an apartment building in Uppsala to reduce their climate impact in a simple manner.

Climate right was cited as one of the most innovative and scalable global examples of what companies can do to address and create solutions for reduced environmental impact. ICA and Klimaträtt were one of the winners in the Information and Communication Technology category. A total of 13 winners are named globally in each of the different categories.

“It is a great honour for us that the UN has taken notice and highlighted the Climate right project as a global model,” comments Per Stromberg, President and CEO of ICA Gruppen. “By developing innovative ways to help customers make sustainable choices in their daily lives, we at ICA can make a big contribution.”

The award is spearheaded by the United Nations Climate Change secretariat through its Momentum for Change initiative and will be presented at the UN Climate Change Conference (COP22) in Marrakech, Morocco, in mid-November.

“What a fantastic award! This is further proof of how exciting and interesting our project is,” comments Kerstin Lindvall, SVP Corporate Responsibility ICA Sweden. “Climate right resulted in an average 31% lower climate footprint among the project’s participants. If everyone in Sweden were to achieve as big a reduction in carbon emissions, it would correspond to half of Sweden’s target for lower emissions by 2020.”

About Klimaträtt
The Climate-right project has helped and inspired the residents of an apartment building in Uppsala to reduce their climate impact through a number of simple, practical tools as they go about their daily lives. Using an app that converts the participants’ various purchases into CO2 emissions, the participants have had an opportunity to measure and reduce their climate impact since April 2015. Using the Klimaträtt app, the building residents have been able to measure their daily climate impact caused by the food they buy, their housing, transportation, and other consumption. Klimaträtt was started at the initiative of ICA and Uppsalahem, with the support of sponsoring partners WWF/Världsnaturfonden, Chalmers, ICA Bank, ICA Supermarket Torgkassen, Sunfleet, UL, Automile, Uppsala municipality and Energimolnet. The Swedish innovation agency VINNOVA also participated by funding development of the app for the Klimatträtt project through its environmental technology testbed programme.

About Momentum for Change
The award is headed by the United Nations Climate Change secretariat through its Momentum for Change initiative, which which operates in partnership with the World Economic Forum Global Project on Climate Change and the Global e-Sustainability Initiative.

Sweden: ICA signed agreement with Fabege on new premises for its head office in Arenastaden in Solna, Stockholm

Solna, Sweden, 2015-9-1 — /EPR Retail News/ — ICA has signed an agreement with Fabege on new premises for its head office, in Arenastaden in Solna. This means that ICA’s employees who today work at various offices in Solna Business Park, in IT-huset in Sundbyberg, and in Apotek Hjärtat’s offices in Solna centrum, will be gathered together in the same building. The preliminary date for the move to the new offices is 1 July 2018.

ICA currently works from three office locations in Solna and Sundbyberg, and has therefore been conducting a review of its premises for some time. Last autumn an evaluation was conducted of the alternative to expand the offices in Solna Business Park or to move to a new property. It has now been decided that ICA will move to new premises in the Signalen block of Arenastaden in Solna.

“We have wanted to gather our employees in Stockholm in a single office for some time,” comments Petra Albuschus, Senior Vice President Human Resources for ICA Gruppen. “We have now found a solution that we are very satisfied with. We will remain in the same area, can gather our employees in a better way, and will obtain modern and environmentally certified offices.”
