Paris, 2016-Sep-07 — /EPR Retail News/ — After Brazil, Japan and Brooklyn, Paris is in the spotlight at Le Bon Marché Rive Gauche and La Grande Epicerie. The PARIS! exhibition presents secret, cosmopolitan and surprising facets of the city through the eyes of entrepreneurial creative talents who are passionate about and inspired by the City of Light.

Accessories, fashion creations, home decor, beauty care, delectable foods and more all celebrate Paris in an exhibition bursting with creativity. Le Bon Marché is welcoming exciting collaborations with a contemporary breed of brands and designers, united by a shared love of the French capital.

Proudly championing “Made in Paris”, their creations are crafted in the heart of the city in workshops that reinvent inimitable Parisian savoir-faire and celebrate their home neighborhoods, including Maison Château Rouge, emblematic of a cosmopolitan Paris, or Pairs in Paris, whose sneakers are named after Paris streets. The event features forty highly original brands, plus exclusive creations by celebrated houses such as a Dior pochette purse with motifs that celebrate Paris.

Another exhibition guest is street artist Fred le Chevalier, whose well-known characters – generally found on the walls of the capital –  are featured beneath the glass canopy and in display windows, joined by traditional newsstand kiosks, cafés and other Paris fixtures interspersed throughout the store.

The PARIS! exhibition on the ground floor of Le Bon Marché runs until October 15th.

Le Bon Marché presents the first exhibition in France of original works by Chinese artist Ai Weiwei

PARIS, France, 2016-Jan-19 — /EPR Retail News/ — Le Bon Marché continues its dialogue with the art world, presenting “Er Xi”, the first exhibition in France of original works by Chinese artist Ai Weiwei. Inspired by an immersion into the collective consciousness of popular Chinese tales and legends, the installation transforms Le Bon Marché into a parallel world of dreams.

The exhibition is an entirely new experience for the Chinese artist, who has never previously displayed his work in a commercial setting. “Showing at Le Bon Marché Rive Gauche is using a new medium, the department store, to encounter a new audience that is every bit as broad as a museum’s,” Ai Weiwei explains. Calling his exhibition “Er Xi”, which translates as “child’s play” in Chinese, the artist reconnects with his childhood, appropriating a space dedicated to contemporary trends as his playground.

Ai Weiwei drew inspiration for the exhibition from Shan Hai Jing, the “Classic of Mountains and Seas”, a collection of popular legends and epic tales that have been told to children for over 2,000 years in China. Le Bon Marché becomes home to several dozen chimerical characters represented by traditional kites, crafted from bamboo and tissue paper.

This poetic tribute to China’s heritage spans three areas: the display windows on rue de Sèvres, the atriums of Le Bon Marché and a special exhibition gallery on the main floor. The exhibition runs from January 16 to February 20, 2016, welcoming everyone who delights in remaining a child at heart…

Practical information:
Guided tours for adults Thursday evenings from 7 pm to 8 pm and Saturdays from 11 am to 12 pm (free reservations).
Tours for children (6 to 11) followed by an art workshop on Wednesdays and Saturdays from 2 pm to 4 pm (reservations required, 20 euros).

LVMH: Le Bon Marché’s annual autumn cultural theme features Brooklyn and its “Makers”

PARIS, 2015-9-11 — /EPR Retail News/ — Following last year’s spotlight on Japan, Le Bon Marché’s annual autumn cultural theme features Brooklyn and its “Makers”. The Makers are a new generation of designer-entrepreneurs who have redefined the entire New York scene over the last decade. Now their inventive energy is being exported to the Left Bank department store for an exhibition in their honor.

Ardent promoters of the “Do-It-Yourself” philosophy, The Makers have little by little been reinventing New York chic. They embrace an art of living that promotes a circular economy, local work and controlled production. Over a hundred Brooklyn Makers, including fashion designers, ceramicists, chefs, florists, chocolate makers, carpenters and upholsterers, will be at Le Bon Marché from September 3 – October 17. The selection of products, for the most part on exclusive display for the first time in France, includes recycled bags by Brooklyn Industries, vintage-inspired menswear by Knickerbocker, and hand-made colored knit hats and sweatshirts by All Knitwear.

In addition to displaying the Makers’ wares, Le Bon Marché has prepared an eclectic and original program for the month of September, inspired by the constant stream of events taking place around the city. Celebrity tattoo artist Scott Campbell is opening a pop-up tattoo studio in the heart of the department store. The Brooklyn Amusement Park, a monumental installation inspired by Coney Island, has been built on the upper level. Foodies can explore the Brooklyn Rive Gauche delicatessen at the Grande Epicerie, where they can buy crispy kale by New York Naturals, jarred pickles by Brooklyn Brine and honey infused with chilies from Mike’s Hot Honey.
