Abu Dhabi, UAE, 2017-Jun-06 — /EPR Retail News/ — Earmarks Dhs. 40 million to subsidize various products.

With an aim to help shoppers save on their shopping during the holy month of Ramadan, Lulu hypermarkets has announced special initiatives. As part of the initiative, subsidized Ramadan baskets comprising of various essential products were launched this morning by Dr. Hashim Al Nuaimi, director of the Customer Protection Department at the Ministry of Economy at Al Wahda Mall in Abu Dhabi.

The baskets come in two variants, one containing 12 and other 20 essential products at a very nominal price of AED 85 and AED 120 respectively. These baskets contain cooking oil, rice, lentils, water, dates, oats, sugar, etc., and are discounted up to 32. Last year Lulu sold close to 500,000 such baskets and this bigger numbers are expected.

Elaborating about the Ramadan initiatives, Saifee Rupawala, CEO of Lulu Group said, “we have always taken special care to see that the shoppers are not unduly burdened during the holy month of Ramadan, when there is a tendency to hike the prices by the suppliers. We have earmarked a budget of Dhs. 40 million to be used for subsidizing various products in all categories. Last week we started by launching a 3-day promotion at Lulu Hypermarket in Khalidiyah Mall, where more than 50 discount were offered in all categories”.

“We will be heavily publicizing our special offers & promotions all throughout the holy month, mainly focusing on essential food products while also covering other categories such as garments, home linen, household, etc.” added Saifi Rupawala.

Lulu, which has its own sourcing and food processing facilities in UK, USA, India and the far East recently opened another one in Sri Lanka to secure uninterrupted supply of fresh produce for their 134 stores across various countries at most competitive prices, by eliminating “middle men”.

Speaking at the launch of RAMDAN BASKET, Dr. Hashim Al Nuaimi said “LULU has always supported all our initiatives and have been a role model for CSR activities. These subsidized Ramadan Baskets will be available in all their hypermarkets in the UAE from today. I glad to note that LULU has increased their subsidy budget from Dhs. 25 million last year to Dhs. 40 million this year, which will benefit larger segment of society. Also, Lulu in cooperation with ministry of economy has locked the price of 140 products throughout the year 2017”.

Lulu hypermarket opens in the city of Hail, in Kingdom of Saudi Arabia

Abu Dhabi, UAE, 2017-Feb-06 — /EPR Retail News/ — Lulu Group has opened its latest hypermarket in the city of Hail, in the north-western province of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia on Sunday.

The Hypermarket was officially inaugurated by Dr. Saud Hamood Al Bugami, Under Secretary of Hail province in the presence of several high-ranking officials from various government departments and representatives from local business communities. Yusuff Ali MA, Chairman of Lulu Group, Saifee Rupawala, CEO, Ashraf Ali Executive Director other senior officials of Lulu were also present at the event along with a large number of residents.

The hypermarket, which is 7th in Kingdom and 133rd of the group, is spread over an area of about 160,000 square feet and will serve the residents of Al Jamiyeen District and its surrounding areas with easy access and ample parking.

Salim Bin Mohammed Al Naimi – Undersecretary for Transport, Ministry of Transport & Communications in the presence of several high-ranking officials from various government departments and representatives from local business communities. LuLu Hypermarket awarded first position in the overall consumer satisfaction index conducted by the Department of Economic Development

Abu Dhabi, UAE, 2016-May-12 — /EPR Retail News/ — LuLu Hypermarket has been awarded by the Dubai Department of Economic Development as a result of the Consumer Friendliness Index exercise conducted earlier this year.

The awards ceremony for CFI in its 4th edition was organized by the Department of Economic Development in Dubai under the patronage and in the presence of HH Sheikh Mansour Bin Mohammad Bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Chairman, Dubai International Marine Club, to honor winning facilities in the seven categories monitored by the index.

The award was handed out by HH Sheikh Mansour Bin Mohammad Bin Rashid Al Maktoum and received by Mr. Salim M.A., Director of LuLu Group, at a ceremony held at Armani Hotel, Burj Khalifa, Dubai, on 11th May 2016.

LuLu Hypermarket was awarded for the first position in the overall consumer satisfaction index conducted by the Department of Economic Development, which monitors all retailers in the region for consumer satisfaction. Evaluation was based on six major criteria, namely: Product quality, product price, money value, after sales service quality, clarity of service and warranty policies, and overall customer satisfaction. LuLu Hypermarket was also conferred with the Award for the Best Consumer Friendly Retailer in the region by the Department of Economic Development in the same function.

The Consumer Friendliness Index had assessed companies across the United Arab Emirates to select the best consumer friendly retailer among them. The process included an online survey completed by residents of Dubai as well as an overall score given by the Department of Economic Development. This score was a combination of consumer rating of the retailer, customer complaints received about the retailer and the retailer’s fairness in pricing.

After receiving the award, Mr. Salim M.A. said “We are extremely delighted to be selected as the most consumer friendly Hypermarket in Dubai, as also to be the best overall performing retailer of Dubai. LuLu Group enters Malaysia with its first hypermarket set to open in February 2016 in Kuala Lumpur

ABU DHABI, 2015-11-30 — /EPR Retail News/ — LuLu Group is in the final stages of starting its operations in Malaysia with its first hypermarket set to open in February 2016 in the capital Kuala Lumpur.

Elaborating on the group’s expansion plans during an official luncheon hosted by Malaysian Prime Minister Najib Abdul Razak in honour of Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi in Kuala Lumpur on Tuesday, Yusuffali M.A., chairman and managing director of Lulu Group, said: “We plan to initially invest $300 million in rolling out 10 hypermarkets in the next two years and gradually expand to all parts of Malaysia. Today the whole world knows about Malaysia’s economic stability, investor-friendly approach, liberalised policies and world-class infrastructure and we are confident about our success here.”

LuLu, which currently operates 118 hypermarkets and shopping malls in the Middle East and India, offers world-class shopping experience, highest-quality products, competitive prices and excellent customer service. Global consultancy firm Deloitte ranked Lulu among the top 10 fastest-growing retailers in the world.

“Our hypermarkets encompass both supermarket and department store formats and we intend to bring a whole new world of shopping to the residents of Malaysia,” Yusuffali said.

During Razak’s visit to UAE last year, he had personally visited Lulu Hypermarket in Abu Dhabi and had shown much appreciation for store quality, product range and especially the various Malaysian products being sold there.

LuLu is also one of the biggest importers of Malaysian agricultural products and non-food products to the Middle East.

Agreements have already been finalised with prominent retail developers such as Greenhill Resources for Setia City Mall and KLIA Properties for their new project in Bangi, PNB Commerce Perling Mall in Johar Baru. Other hypermarkets will come up in Kalandhan Kotabaru, Shaa Aalam, Ippoh, Malaka, Penang and Kuala Tringanu.

The work on other hypermarkets has already started.
