MinuteClinic opened six new locations inside Target stores in South Florida

WOONSOCKET, R.I., 2016-Jun-25 — /EPR Retail News/ — MinuteClinic, the retail medical clinic of CVS Health, has opened six new locations inside Target stores in South Florida. The clinics located in stores in Boynton Beach, Davie, Deerfield Beach,Miami and West Palm Beach have been rebranded and converted to MinuteClinic. There are now 28 MinuteClinic locations in South Florida, including clinics in select CVS Pharmacy stores and Navarro Discount Pharmacy.

“The new MinuteClinic locations inside Target will offer the same scope of services available to patients at all our other clinics in Florida and nationwide,” said Andrew Sussman, M.D., President of MinuteClinic, and Executive Vice President and Associate Chief Medical Officer of CVS Health. “In addition, some services will be new to Target guests, including treatment for minor sprains and strains, contraceptive care and smoking cessation counseling.”

MinuteClinic is open seven days a week and no appointment is necessary. Most major health insurance is accepted. For patients paying cash or credit, treatment prices are posted at each clinic and at www.minuteclinic.com.

Nurse practitioners at MinuteClinic specialize in family health care and can diagnose, treat and write prescriptions for common family illnesses such as strep throat; ear, eye, sinus, bladder and bronchial infections; nausea, vomiting, diarrhea and indigestion. Acne, rashes and skin conditions; sprains and strains; and minor wounds and abrasions are also treated. Common vaccinations are available at most locations, such as influenza, tetanus, pneumonia and Hepatitis A and B.

Prevention and wellness services include screening and monitoring for diabetes, high blood pressure and high cholesterol, tuberculosis (TB) testing, contraceptive care, motion sickness prevention and smoking cessation.

At the conclusion of each visit, patients receive educational material, a prescription (when clinically appropriate) and a visit summary. A copy of the diagnostic record can be sent electronically, or by fax or mail, to a primary care provider with patient permission.

With the new MinuteClinic in Target locations, Sussman says MinuteClinic can continue to play a complementary role in working with primary care providers.

MinuteClinic locations in South Florida are affiliated with Cleveland Clinic Florida.

“About 50 percent of MinuteClinic visits occur on evenings, weekends and holidays when patients may not be able to get an appointment with their primary care provider and otherwise may need to choose more expensive emergency department or urgent care options,” he said. “Also, approximately half of the patients seen at MinuteClinic are ‘medically homeless’ and do not have a personal physician.”

In December 2015, CVS Health acquired all Target pharmacies (1,672 locations across 47 states) and retail clinics (79 locations in seven states). Two MinuteClinic walk-in medical clinics open inside CVS/pharmacy stores in Reno and Sparks Northern Nevada

  • MinuteClinic Walk-in Medical Clinics Open in Northern Nevada
  • First Locations Inside Select CVS/pharmacy stores in Reno and Sparks

Woonsocket, R.I., 2014-12-15 — /EPR Retail News/ — Two MinuteClinic walk-in medical clinics opened today inside CVS/pharmacy stores in Reno and Sparks. They join eight MinuteClinic locations inside select CVS/pharmacy stores in the Las Vegas area in Southern Nevada.  MinuteClinic is the largest and fastest growing provider of walk-in medical clinics in the United States with more than 950 clinics in 31 states and the District of Columbia.

The clinics are located at the CVS/pharmacy store at 1695 Robb Dr. in Northwest Reno and 680 N. McCarran Blvd. in Sparks. Two additional clinics in Northern Nevada are expected to open in 2015.

MinuteClinic is open seven days a week with no appointment necessary. Most major health insurance is accepted. For patients paying cash or credit, treatment prices are posted at each clinic and on www.minuteclinic.com. The cost for most services starts at $79.

“The first MinuteClinic location in Nevada opened at a CVS/pharmacy store on the Las Vegas Strip in 2007 and since then thousands of residents and visitors have taken advantage of the increased access to high-quality, convenient and affordable medical care that is offered,” said Andrew Sussman, M.D., president, MinuteClinic and senior vice president/associate chief medical officer, CVS Health. “The demand for MinuteClinic services will grow in Nevada due in part to the shortage of primary care physicians, the aging Baby Boomer population and the influx of newly insured patients through the Affordable Care Act.”

MinuteClinic nurse practitioners and physician assistants specialize in family health care and can diagnose, treat and write prescriptions for common illnesses such as strep throat and ear, eye, sinus, bladder and bronchial infections. Minor wounds, abrasions, skin conditions and joint sprains are treated, and common vaccinations such as influenza, tetanus, pneumonia and Hepatitis A & B are available at most locations. Walk-in camp, sports and college physicals are available daily.

In addition, MinuteClinic administers a series of wellness services designed to help patients identify lifestyle changes needed to improve their current and future health, including screenings and monitoring for diabetes, high blood pressure and high cholesterol.

MinuteClinic practitioners use a software program that at the conclusion of each visit generates educational material and a prescription (when clinically appropriate) for the patient, as well as a diagnostic record that can be sent via electronic health record, fax or mail to a primary care provider with patient permission.

Sussman says MinuteClinic is committed to helping patients find a medical home and believes it can play a complementary role in working with primary care providers.

“About 50 percent of visits occur on evenings, weekends and holidays when patients may not be able to get an appointment with their primary care provider,” Sussman said. “And about half of the patients seen at MinuteClinic do not have a personal physician.”

Patients who visit MinuteClinic without a primary care provider are provided a list of physicians in the area who are accepting new patients.

The MinuteClinic walk-in medical clinics in Northern Nevada operate from

8:30 a.m. to 7:30 p.m., Monday through Friday; 9 a.m. to 5:30 p.m., Saturday; and 10 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. Sunday.

Walmart expands its Centers of Excellence program to provide services for Breast, Lung and Colorectal Cancers with Mayo Clinic

Centers of Excellence Program to Provide Services for Breast, Lung and Colorectal Cancers

BENTONVILLE, Ark., 2014-10-7— /EPR Retail News/ — Building on its innovative program that has enhanced the quality of health care for its associates, Walmart announced it is expanding its Centers of Excellence program to include three cancers with Mayo Clinic, one of the nation’s leading health care providers.

Effective Jan. 1, 2015, Walmart associates and family members enrolled in the company’s health reimbursement account plans or health savings account plan who are diagnosed with breast, lung or colorectal cancer can obtain a review of their medical records by Mayo Clinic, and when recommended, receive care covered at 100 percent for on-site visits at Mayo Clinic Cancer Center locations in Rochester, Minn., Jacksonville, Fla., or Phoenix, Ariz.

“We are proud to expand our Centers of Excellence with Mayo Clinic to help ensure that our associates and their covered family members who are diagnosed with cancer receive the best care,” said Sally Welborn, senior vice president of global benefits at Walmart. “The three cancers covered under our program are among the most prevalent experienced by associates on our health care plans.”

“We are pleased that Walmart approached us to help its associates diagnosed with breast, colon and lung cancer,” said Jan Buckner, M.D., deputy director for practice at Mayo Clinic Cancer Center. “Our coordinated approach to cancer care offers patients the latest advances in treatment in a compassionate and caring environment.”

Walmart’s Centers of Excellence cancer program will provide a review of an associate’s medical record, or their covered family member’s medical record, by Mayo Clinic oncologists following a diagnosis of breast, lung or colorectal cancer. The review will determine if they would benefit from an on-site visit at a Mayo Clinic location. On-site visits will be covered at 100 percent and will include recommended treatment, such as chemotherapy, radiation or surgery without deductible or coinsurance, plus travel expenses for the patient and a caregiver.

The National Cancer Institute (NCI) reports that breast cancer is the most common type of cancer, with about 235,000 new cases expected in the United States in 2014. Lung cancer, with over 224,000 cases expected this year, and colorectal cancer, with a projected 136,000 new cases in 2014, also rank among the most common cancers in the U.S.

Walmart launched its first-of-a-kind Centers of Excellence program in January 2013, which focused on select spine and cardiac procedures. In 2014, Walmart partnered with the Pacific Business Group on Health to extend the Centers of Excellence program to include knee and hip replacement procedures. Walmart first partnered with Mayo Clinic in 1997 for associates in need of organ transplants.

Walmart remains committed to making healthcare affordable for its associates. Hundreds of associates and their family members have elected to receive Centers of Excellence care since 2013.
