GameStop raised nearly $1.2 million during its in-store donation campaign for Autism Speaks

For the second year, GameStop and its family of retail brands show their passion for autism awareness while raising funds for Autism Speaks®

GRAPEVINE, Texas, 2017-May-18 — /EPR Retail News/ — GameStop, a family of specialty retail brands that makes the most popular technologies affordable and simple, announced today (May 16, 2017) that it collected nearly $1.2 million as part of its World Autism Month in-store donation campaign. In its second year supporting autism awareness, GameStop, along with its Spring Mobile AT&T, Simply Mac, Think Geek, Kongregate and Game Informer brands, invited customers and associates to donate to this important cause through an in-store and online donation campaign. All donations received directly benefit Autism Speaks.

“Our guests and associates never cease to amaze us with their passion and generosity for helping raise understanding and acceptance of people with autism,” said Matt Hodges, vice president of corporate communications for GameStop. “We were touched by the numerous stories of our guests who made donations in honor of a family member or friend impacted by autism. Plus, we were inspired to see our store associates from California to New Jersey going the extra mile in providing inclusive gaming days and special needs fairs for families impacted by autism locally.”

Some GameStop associates experience autism first hand. Christopher Hutton, GameStop district leader in Dallas-Fort Worth area, has worked for GameStop for more than seven years and is personally impacted by Asperger’s, a high functioning form of autism. He believes that a little education and communication can go a long way in increasing understanding and acceptance of people with autism.

“Early on I decided to be frank with my colleagues about how Asperger’s affects me. When you’re straightforward about who you are, there are a lot of ‘aha’ moments for others,” said Hutton. “I also help my staff learn to interact with our customers who have autism. Interacting with them is a huge deal to them. I see their patience level go up when they realize that the customer is really happy to be here. The moment you start to identify with someone, you uncover things that can help you with your personal growth. You never know what you’ll say to someone that will change your perspective, or inspire them.”

A portion of the donations raised through the GameStop campaign will help fund Autism Speaks’ specially trained Autism Response Team, which provides information, tools and resources to help people with autism and their families make informed decisions.

In addition, the money raised will fund Autism Speaks’ science programs that are advancing innovative research into causes and better treatments for autism and its related conditions.

“What an amazing example GameStop and its customers have set by raising more than $2.4 million in the last two years. With their donations, GameStop and its customers are helping to enhance lives across the autism spectrum,” said Angela Geiger, Autism Speaks president and CEO. “We’re thrilled that this donation can help us reach even more individuals and families who are affected by autism.”

GameStop partners with Autism Speaks® to raise vital funds for autism research

GameStop and its family of retail brands will once again help raise funds during World Autism Month to support research, family services and advocacy

NEW YORK, 2017-Apr-03 — /EPR Retail News/ — GameStop Corp., a global family of specialty retail brands that makes the most popular technologies affordable and simple, will once again partner with Autism Speaks®  during April, World Autism Month, to increase understanding and acceptance of people with autism. The campaign also will raise vital funds for autism research and resources for every stage of life.

The second annual in-store campaign runs from April 1 through April 30, with 100 percent of donations going to Autism Speaks, which is devoted to promoting solutions, across the spectrum and throughout the life span, for the needs of people with autism and their families. As a thank-you to customers who donate $1 or more at video game stores or online, GameStop is offering triple PowerUp Rewards points on the donation amount. In addition, customers at all Spring Mobile AT&T, Cricket Wireless, Simply Mac, and ThinkGeek retail stores will also be able to donate.

“What started out last year as a simple donation checkout campaign to help families impacted by autism quickly evolved into something even more meaningful than we imagined,” said Matt Hodges, vice president of corporate communications. “Our customers and associates started sharing with us their personal autism stories, and their commitment to support our company and Autism Speaks by raising understanding and acceptance of autism.”

GameStop’s continued partnership with Autism Speaks follows a successful 2016 campaign that raised more than $1.2 million and helped fully fund the organization’s iPad grant program for low-income children and adults with autism, who use the device to assist with communication.

The donations raised during this year’s campaign will help fund Autism Speaks’ specially trained Autism Response Team, which provides information, tools and resources to help people with autism and their families make informed decisions. Funds will also support Autism Speaks’ mission to improve the health and quality of life for all people affected by autism.

“We can’t thank GameStop and its customers enough for their generosity,” said Alyssa Herman, Autism Speaks chief relationship officer. “Each dollar increases our ability to enhance lives today and accelerate a spectrum of solutions for tomorrow.”

GameStop launches donation campaign to help support our veterans and their families

GRAPEVINE, TX, 2016-Oct-22 — /EPR Retail News/ — GameStop, a global family of specialty retail brands that makes the most popular technologies affordable and simple, announced today a partnership with The Call of Duty Endowment (the Endowment) and Snowball Express to raise funds to help support U.S. military veterans and the children and families of America’s fallen military heroes. PowerUp Rewards members who donate $1 or more will receive triple reward points on the donation amount.

From October 21 to November 15, GameStop will invite customers to show their support of our veterans and their families by donating $1, $5 or $10 at the point-of-purchase. This is GameStop’s first time to conduct an in-store and online donation campaign to benefit the Endowment and Snowball Express. All donations will be equally distributed between the two charities.

The Endowment helps veterans re-enter the civilian job market with high-quality careers by supporting groups that prepare veterans for the job market and by raising awareness of the value vets bring to the workplace. Founded by Activision Blizzard’s CEO Bobby Kotick, the Endowment has placed more than 25,000 veterans in high-quality jobs since 2009. GameStop has been a supporter of the Endowment since 2012, raising more than $3 million through the sale of Call of Duty Challenge Coins and Dog Tags to help put more than 3,400 vets back to work.

GameStop is also working closely with the Endowment on ways to increase the number of veterans it hires within its family of retail brands.

Snowball Express serves the children and families of America’s fallen military service members. Their mission is to honor those service members who have made the ultimate sacrifice since 9/11 by humbly serving the families and children left behind. Each year Snowball Express hosts the largest gathering in the world of children who have all lost a parent while serving our country. More than 1,700 children and surviving spouses attend a special five day holiday program dedicated to help them heal, create hope and happy memories. GameStop has been a sponsor of Snowball Express for many years, providing the ultimate gaming experience for the children and teens attending the annual Snowball Express event.

“We are proud to expand our support of the Call of Duty Endowment and Snowball Express, two charities that have done so much for our military families,” said Matt Hodges, Vice President, Corporate Communications for GameStop. “With so many of our associates and customers having a military background, or a family member in the military, it is an honor to help raise much needed funds to help these charities continue the important work they are doing.”

The GameStop campaign will be supported by specialized in-store and online promotional materials, online outreach through the company’s mobile gaming division, Kongregate, and GameStop’s passionate store associates who are committed to giving back to their communities.
