GRAND RAPIDS, Mich., 2016-Sep-18 — /EPR Retail News/ — Starting today (September 15, 2016), Meijer shoppers in the greater Detroit area can now have their groceries delivered to their doorstep within one hour.

Not only does the partnership between the Midwest retailer and Shipt, an app-based grocery delivery service, provide southeastern Michigan customers yet another convenient way to shop its stores, it will also employ more than 300 people to shop for Shipt at Meijer stores.

“We strive to provide our customers the best one-stop shopping experience they can find, so we believe this service adds a new convenience when shopping at Meijer.” said Michael Ross, vice president of Digital Shopping and Customer Marketing. “We’re excited to offer our customers another convenient way to shop our stores.”

“Through our relationship with Meijer, we are look forward to making life easier for busy individuals and families, while also creating hundreds of jobs throughout the Detroit area,” said Bill Smith, founder and CEO of Shipt. “Shipt’s shopper community is comprised of reliable, hardworking people who are committed to serving our members. We are excited to expand that community in Detroit and continue doing what we do best – simplifying lives.”

Once customers sign up for the membership-based app, they can shop 55,000 groceries and everyday essentials and perishables – including fresh produce, refrigerated and frozen items – from one of 25 Detroit-area Meijer stores offering Shipt’s home-delivery service. Shipt shoppers will hand-pick the items and deliver orders within a preferred one-hour time window.

Meijer customers can sign up for annual or monthly Shipt memberships. Annual memberships are $99 per year and monthly memberships are $14 per month. For a limited time, new members will also receive $25 off their first order. Delivery is free for orders over $35; a flat $7 delivery fee is added to any orders under $35. Since most Meijer stores are open 24 hours a day, Shipt deliveries will be available at some Meijer locations 24 hours a day, seven days a week with the exception of certain holidays.

Shipt will honor most in-store sales, including buy one, get one free offers, but some of the sale items in the app may differ. While mPerks is currently unavailable through the app, Meijer and Shipt hope to offer mPerks to Shipt members in the future.

While the home delivery service offered by Shipt is currently available at 25 stores in southeastern Michigan, Meijer will continue to evaluate possibilities for expanding to additional stores in the future.

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich., 2016-Sep-02 — /EPR Retail News/ — Meijer is working with Shipt, an app-based company, to launch home grocery delivery service in Detroit and southeastern Michigan, providing customers yet another convenient way to shop its stores.

Beginning Sept. 15, shoppers will be able to use the Shipt smartphone app to shop 55,000 items from one of 25 Detroit-area Meijer stores offering the service and choose a one-hour delivery window that is most convenient for them, 24 hours a day, seven days a week. The new service is part of an agreement between the Grand Rapids, Mich.-based retailer and Shipt.

“This is yet one more option to make shopping at Meijer easier for our customers,” said Michael Ross, vice president of Digital Shopping and Customer Marketing. “We believe our relationship with Shipt will provide many of our customers an all-encompassing service that will save them time and add a new convenience when shopping at Meijer.”

Shipt’s grocery delivery service is membership-based, with either annual or monthly options. For $99 a year, Shipt members receive unlimited free grocery deliveries on all orders over $35. Customers who subscribe to Shipt prior to launch date will also receive $25 off their first delivery.

After signing up for Shipt, members can shop a large selection of Meijer groceries and everyday essentials, including baby, health and beauty products. They can also note any preferences, choose a preferred delivery window and pay for their order. A Shipt shopper will hand pick their items and deliver them in as little as one hour after the order is placed.

Leading up to the launch, Shipt will build a network of hundreds of shoppers and identify opportunities to support community organizations throughout the Detroit area.

“The Meijer commitment to quality food, excellent customer service, and dedication to the communities they serve is what makes them an ideal partner,” said Bill Smith, founder and CEO of Shipt. “Through our relationship with Meijer, we will make life easier for busy individuals and families, and also create jobs in the Detroit area.”

Because most Meijer stores are open 24 hours a day, Shipt deliveries will be available at some Meijer locations 24 hours a day, seven days a week with the exception of certain holidays once the service launches in the Detroit area.

Meijer’s mPerks turns 5 and boasts 4 million members

Record $100 million in savings provided to Meijer customers this year alone

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich.,  2015-8-27— /EPR Retail News/ — Meijer announced that its free digital savings program, mPerks, is turning 5 this week and has already set a company record with $100 million in savings to customers this year. Launched in 2010, the Grand Rapids-based retailer now has nearly 4 million mPerks members who have clipped more than 1 billion digital coupons, with total savings eclipsing $400 million over the last 5 years.

“The popularity of digital coupons and shopping apps is at an all-time high as price-conscious shoppers are realizing how much their iPads, tablets and mobile phones can be used as a tool to help stretch family budgets,” said Michael Ross, vice president of digital shopping and customer marketing. “We’re especially proud that so many of our customers are taking advantage of the time- and money-saving resources we offer and continue to enhance.”

mPerks, which has evolved into a multifaceted rewards program, was launched as a way to help customers save at the register by offering a faster – and more convenient – way to clip coupons. The free program started as a way for savvy, deal-seeking shoppers to earn discounts without having to cut, print or even present a coupon upon checkout and has grown to include personalized rewards and digital tools that help customers plan their entire shopping trip from home. It has a redemption rate that is four times higher than the national average and frequent users are saving an average of 15 percent per year.

Meijer was also one of the first retailers to provide a mobile app that allows customers to access shopping tools and receive digital receipts to better track their spending and savings information. Available as a free download for iPhone and Android smartphones through Apple Inc.’s App Store and the Android Market, other popular Meijer Mobile App features include:

  • Browse sale items and create shopping lists
  • Personalize settings to automatically receive and clip offers based on spending habits.
  • Search and find products on a store map
  • Earn total purchase savings from Personalized Rewards programs
  • Use barcode scanning without entering mPerks ID and PIN at checkout
  • Link credit cards to speed up your mPerks checkout process

Once customers sign up at mperks.com, they can preview and select coupons for their favorite national or Meijer Own brand products that are then stored in their personal mPerks account until redeemed or expired. The applicable coupons are then instantly redeemed when shoppers enter in their mobile phone number and PIN at checkout.

The retailer also offers free Wi-Fi capability in all its stores, making it easier for customers to access their mPerks accounts and the Meijer mobile app, which frees up their smartphone data plans for other uses.

“It’s great to see how much mPerks has grown over the past 5 years to provide our customers with a digital resource that personalizes their shopping experience and maximizes their savings in a huge way,” Ross said. “Meijer is always looking for ways to save our customers money and we’re dedicated to using technology that improves and expands their shopping experience.”

About Meijer:
Meijer is a family-owned and privately-held company committed to meeting the needs of families in the communities of each of its 222 stores throughout Michigan, Ohio, Indiana, Illinois, Kentucky and Wisconsin. Meijer launches new convenient way to shop; Meijer Curbside allows customers to shop for their items online and pick up groceries curbside without leaving the car

Retailer piloting personalized shopping experience in Grand Rapids

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich., 2015-4-17 — /EPR Retail News/ — For shoppers looking to maximize their time, Meijer has launched a new convenient way to shop called Meijer Curbside. This new shopping service allows customers to shop for their items online and enjoy the convenience of picking up their groceries curbside without leaving the car.

Currently being piloted at the Knapp’s Corner store at 1997 East Beltline Rd., the Meijer Curbside program enlists specially-trained team members to hand select every item in a customer’s order and shop according to special instructions and personal preferences. The Grand Rapids, Mich.-based retailer is considering future rollout possibilities in Michigan, Ohio, Indiana, Illinois and Kentucky later this year.

“The way customers shop for food is changing, and Meijer Curbside is one more way we are striving to find solutions to everyday challenges and bring more convenience to our customers,” said Michael Ross, vice president of customer marketing and emerging technology. “Meijer Curbside allows us to help our customers save time by remotely shopping for items throughout our store and choosing their own personal pick-up time.”

After placing orders online at Meijer.com/Curbside, customers choose their preferred pick-up time, between 7 a.m. and 9 p.m. daily. For Meijer Curbside orders of one to 12 items, orders can be picked up in as little as one hour. For orders of 13 or more items, customers can schedule pick up in about three hours. Customers can also place an order up to three days in advance. For a limited time during the pilot program, Meijer is offering the service at no charge. Following this initial phase the service will cost $5 per order.

The Meijer Curbside team shops all orders prior to scheduled pick-up times and keeps all grocery items at the optimal temperature, using dedicated freezers, refrigerators and warmers to keep everything on shopping lists fresh and safe until customers arrive. More than 23,000 of the most commonly shopping grocery items and preferred general merchandise are currently available for Meijer Curbside orders, as well as prepared meals and sides, specialty cakes, and pre-order party trays.

When customers arrive for pick up at the designated drive-thru area, the Meijer Curbside team loads orders in their car and uses a mobile device to take payment by credit card. Meijer mPerks digital coupons are accepted for all orders. Customers can sign up for mPerks at mPerks.Meijer.com. Currently, paper coupons are not accepted on Meijer Curbside orders.
