DUBLIN, IRELAND, 2017-Oct-17 — /EPR Retail News/ —

Bray Hockey Club Scoops top prize of €10,000

This year, over 3,000 clubs registered for the Topaz’ Cash for Clubs initiative. Since its launch in 2015, Cash for Clubs has €400,000 in prizes to clubs across the island of Ireland.

Bray Hockey Club, Co. Wicklow, is the grand prize winner of Cash for Clubs 2017. After signing up to the community initiative, members and friends of the Wicklow club simply fuelled up at their local Topaz in Brennanstown, Co. Wicklow, and donated their collected tokens to their club. Bray Hockey Club was then randomly drawn as this year’s lucky grand prize winner, scooping the top prize of €10,000.

Being at the heart of local communities across the country, Topaz recognises the vital role that clubs of all shapes and sizes play in providing opportunities for people of every age to learn new skills, socialise and be active. Given the challenges clubs across Ireland face when it comes to vital fundraising, Topaz introduced the ‘Cash for Clubs’ scheme in 2015 to give clubs the opportunity to generate much-needed funds by harnessing the support of their members and the local community.

Sarah O’Connor, Bray Hockey Club Treasurer said: “We are absolutely thrilled to be the winners of this year’s Cash for Clubs grand prize! €10,000 will go such a long way and will enable us to invest in new equipment and the development of our facilities. We are incredibly grateful and excited for what we can achieve, so a massive thanks to Topaz!”

MJ Tierney, Head of Marketing at Topaz, added: “We are delighted to be awarding the €10,000 grand prize to such a deserving club. Topaz strives to be an intrinsic part of communities across Ireland, providing a daily service across the 32 counties, and the Cash for Clubs initiative enables us to reward local clubs of all shapes and sizes. We would like to congratulate all our winners this year, and Bray Hockey Club especially, who have been lucky enough to win the €10,000 grand prize.

“Cash for Clubs offers an all-inclusive platform, which ensures everyone is a winner and rewards the tireless work of clubs across the country that demonstrate commitment to their communities, day in and day out. We are excited to see the positive impact that the grand prize will make to Bray Hockey Club over the coming months.”

Letterkenny RFC gets support from Topaz Cash for Clubs

Letterkenny RFC gets support from Topaz Cash for Clubs

DUBLIN, IRELAND, 2017-Jun-08 — /EPR Retail News/ —  “We have some big targets to achieve, but we are on a roll since the Cash for Clubs win – like the Irish front row there is no stopping us now!”

When Michael MacGinty answered his phone to a call from MJ Tierney from Topaz in August of last year, the timing really could not have been better. As chairman of Letterkenny RFC, Michael was in the process of looking after the various administrative tasks involved in the day-to-day management of a local sports club. By the end of the phone conversation, the Donegal club had received a cash investment of €10,000 after being randomly drawn out as the Grand Prize winner as part of Topaz Cash for Clubs.

“The boost we received through the prize win allowed us to concentrate on getting our finances in order, which we have done successfully,” said Michael. “This sort of competition gives clubs a way to raise funds without selling more tickets to cash strapped parents. It is a great way for Topaz to give back to its community and we appreciate it.”

While the financial benefit of Cash for Clubs made an immediate contribution to club operations, the impact in terms of lifting spirits was felt from the off, and according to Michael, Letterkenny’s participation levels are very much in rude health.

“The publicity surrounding the competition last year has been immensely positive. The kids’ friends have been attracted to try their hands at Rugby, so our numbers are well up. Our challenge for next season is being able to offer membership to all the kids who want to participate in Rugby in Letterkenny. So, we need more coaches, more equipment and a budget for travel, plus an all-weather pitch. We have some big targets to achieve, but we are on a roll since the Cash for Clubs win – like the Irish front row there is no stopping us now!”

As well as receiving a €10,000 cash investment as part of Topaz Cash for Clubs, Letterkenny RFC’s youngest club members enjoyed a very special one-day training camp with one of the world’s leading Fly-halfs and Topaz Cash for Clubs ambassador Johnny Sexton. Taking a trip to Bective Rangers in Donnybrook, where Johnny himself played mini Rugby, a contingent of Letterkenny’s mini’s joined Johnny for the training session of a lifetime.

“Our kids themselves loved winning a prize in Cash for Clubs. And the ones who were lucky enough to meet Johnny Sexton are still talking about that day – as are the coaches!,” said Michael, reflecting on the Training Day experience itself.
Letterkenny RFC’s experience of winning the €10,000 grand prize as part of Topaz Cash for Clubs along with the masterclass with Johnny Sexton, generated enormous positivity around the club and spirits are well and truly buoyed as the club prepares to enter again this year.

Michael commented: “Topaz can expect a lot of other Donegal sports clubs to apply this year, because many clubs said to us that they could do with the same win as us, to help them drive forward and offer better facilities. They asked how did we manage to get that prize – to which we said we entered and simply participated, Topaz did the rest.”

Cantina, Ireland’s most authentic Mexican street food opens at Topaz Dublin Airport

DUBLIN, IRELAND, 2017-Jan-23 — /EPR Retail News/ — Cantina, Ireland’s most authentic Mexican street food experience, has landed at Topaz Dublin Airport. Following a €100,000 investment, the latest Cantina has created 4 new jobs at the site which is located on the Exit Road at Dublin Airport.

In just over a year since the first Cantina launched in Galway, the brand has transformed the landscape of local Mexican food experiences for Irish consumers. The first food outlet of its kind on a forecourt in Ireland, commuters and employees of Dublin Airport will now have the opportunity to take a bite out of Mexico right on their doorstep at Cantina and experience flavour and quality like no other.

The Cantina menu consists of some of Mexico’s favourites, like the taco: made from fresh, soft shelled taco’s which can be filled with an option of Chorizo Con Carne (Irish, lean mince simmered in Mexican herbs & spices) Beef Barbacoa (seasoned Irish beef slow cooked until tender), Chicken Asada (soft strips of chicken marinated in fresh lime and chillies) or a delicious vegetarian option with fresh guacamole. The sauces made fresh from fresh base ingredients will take you on a journey from Oaxaca Mexico all the way to Dublin Airport, with flavours ranging from the mild (Pico de Gallo) to the eye watering (SALSA BANDIDO– extremely hot) and are a feature of the menu in their own right.

MJ Tierney Head of Marketing at Topaz says: “This is a really exciting time for Topaz and I am delighted to be here today to launch our newest Cantina which is bringing 4 new jobs to our service station here at Dublin Airport. With Cantina, we set out to deliver an experience that holds true to a country renowned for some of the best food in the world.

Over the past year, we have seen a tremendous response to the Cantina menu and we can’t wait to continue to spread the full Mexican street food experience across Ireland in 2017. I’d like to extend my thanks to all involved in the development of Cantina at Dublin airport and wish our store manager Elaine and our new colleagues the very best of luck.”

Topaz supports Jack & Jill Children’s Foundation through new initiative ‘The LEGO® Exchange’

Fundraising drive launched across the Topaz network in aid of the Children’s Charity

DUBLIN, IRELAND, 2016-May-03 — /EPR Retail News/ — Topaz, Ireland’s largest fuel and convenience retailer, today announced its support for ‘The LEGO® Exchange’, a new initiative that is seeing much-needed funds raised for their charity partner, the Jack & Jill Children’s Foundation, through unwanted Lego donations to fund home nursing care for sick children nationwide.

The retailer is calling on customers across the Topaz and Re.Store network to donate their unwanted, loose Lego bricks with all proceeds going to Jack & Jill. Every €16 raised will deliver 1 hour of home nursing care to families in need. The charity drive aims to fund thousands of home nursing hours with the contribution of Topaz staff and customers in this Lego ‘exchange’ to fund home nursing care hours.  It is hoped that families, preschools, schools and businesses across the country will jump on board and donate their unwanted Lego to Jack & Jill.

Topaz have already launched this initiative at 5 of their locations where customers can donate LEGO directly onsite. These sites include Clonshaugh, in North Co. Dublin, Kilmacanogue in South Dublin, Kill in West Dublin, Newcastle in Co. Galway, and Douglas in Co. Cork with more locations to follow. People can also donate their Lego by dropping it off at one of 38 DPD Ireland depots situated across the country, or the Lego can be donated or sold at the Jack & Jill Charity Boutique’s located in Newbridge, Arklow, Wicklow, Carlow, Crookstown and Naas, where bricks are being bought for €4 a kilo.  All Lego drop off points are listed on www.jackandjill.ie

The Jack & Jill Foundation, which was founded in 1997, provides direct funding to families of children up to the age of 4 years old suffering from severe intellectual and physical developmental delay as a result of brain damage, enabling them to purchase home nursing and respite care.

While parenting for most is about feeding, changing, teething, and wishing for a good night’s sleep, parenting for the families supported by Jack & Jill involves coping with seizures, feeding tubes and pain, alongside medication, physio appointments and hospital visits.

CEO and founder of the Jack & Jill Children’s Foundation, Jonathan Irwin welcomed the fundraising drive saying: “I am delighted to be at the brand new Topaz City Avenue site today along with Jack & Jill Fundraising Director Deirdre Walsh and we wish to thank our brand partner Topaz for their support in driving The LEGO® Exchange. This campaign is about finding a new home for your unwanted Lego bricks and raising money for home nursing care to help change a young child’s life for the better. We ask customers across the Topaz and Re.Store network to rescue their loose Lego for us, whether they might be stored in a cupboard or hidden under a bed.  No need for boxes, instructions, or full sets – it’s the loose Lego bricks that we’re after.

This fundraising drive by Topaz, along with DPD Ireland’s 32 depots across the country, will make a significant difference to The LEGO® Exchange, through providing financial support to families in need. It also reminds these families that they’re not alone and that others care across the country. Thank you so much to everyone involved”.

MJ Tierney, Topaz Brand Manager said: “It’s impossible to fully comprehend the challenges faced by families across Ireland with children affected by severe neurological issues. The work of the Jack & Jill Foundation provides invaluable support to those who are in need of a helping hand. We’re delighted to be supporting this very worthy cause which we believe will change many lives for the better. This is a hugely creative fundraising initiative which we believe will go far in lending a helping hand to families who need it”.

The LEGO® Exchange is part of an ongoing, three-year charity partnership that will see €400,000 in much needed funding raised for Jack & Jill. Topaz and Re.Store customers can pledge their support to the Jack & Jill Foundation by donating their small change in stores across the network, with the ‘Small Change for Big Change’ campaign. Further staff and company charity engagements are also in planning for the coming months as Topaz aims to raise €200,000 in aid of the children’s charity this year.
