RUSSIA: Lenta launches its ‘Christmas Tree of Wishes’ charity event to help make New Year’s wishes of children in foster care come true

Saint Petersburg, Russia, 2017-Dec-08 — /EPR Retail News/ — Lenta (LSE, MOEX: LNTA), one of the largest retail chains in Russia, launches its ‘Christmas Tree of Wishes’ charity event to help children in institutional foster care make their New Year’s wishes come true.

Lenta customers will have the opportunity to act as Santa Claus, helping make the New Year’s wishes of children in state-sponsored foster care homes and specialised institutions come true. Christmas trees will be decorated with children’s wish cards in 179 Lenta hypermarkets across 76 Russian cities.

Taking part in the event is easy: customers need only choose a child’s wish card from the tree and purchase the New Year’s present listed within. Lenta will then collect all the gift items and send them to participating foster care homes and institutions, ensuring that every child receives a gift from Santa Claus during the New Year’s celebrations. Gifts will be collected in stores until the end of December, and will benefit around 6,000 children from 170 social institutions throughout Russia.

Lenta’s Chief Executive Officer Jan Dunning said:
“New Year is one of the most important and beloved holidays in the Russian calendar – a time of affection and generosity. We invite our customers to join our ‘Christmas Tree of Wishes’ initiative and become a part of the New Year’s magic for several thousand children living in state sponsored foster care homes. I hope this event will become a great tradition, for we all know that giving a gift is as heart-warming as receiving one.”

The ‘Christmas Tree of Wishes’ event was first held in 2015 five stores in the North West Region of Russia, at the initiative of our employees.

Thirty two Lenta hypermarkets in eight cities took part in the event in 2016, granting the wishes of over 1,300 children from 30 specialised institutions.

Visa releases travel and spend data timed with the Final Draw for the 2018 FIFA World Cup Russia™

Visa, the Official Payment Service Partner of FIFA, releases travel and spend data timed with the Final Draw for the 2018 FIFA World Cup Russia™

SAN FRANCISCO, 2017-Nov-29 — /EPR Retail News/ — In celebration of the Final Draw for the 2018 FIFA World Cup Russia™, Visa (NYSE: V), the Official Payment Service Partner of FIFA, released travel and spending data for the 2018 FIFA World Cup™. Throughout official FIFA venues, Visa will enable a cash-free fan experience by implementing point-of-sale terminals that accept a Visa credit or debit card and a range of digital payments, such as those made via phone or watch.

These enhancements ensure official FIFA venues are equipped with the latest in payment innovation and are ready for the increase in expected international visitors to Russia. Based on spending trends and insights from Visa, it is projected that Russia will host an additional 300,000 to 500,000 international visitors1 during the months of June and July 2018, on top of a baseline average of 4.3 million total international visitors2 to Russia during that same time period over the past four years.

Based on historical data1 from the previous four FIFA World Cup™ tournaments, Visa projects foreign visitors to Russia will represent a 6 to 10 percent increase in foreign visitors to the country in June and July 2018. The largest share of non-native travelers to Russia are forecast to come from:

  • Europe (69 percent)
  • Asia Pacific (12 percent)
  • Americas (8 percent)

Based on historical data3 from the 2014 FIFA World Cup Brazil™, Visa anticipates Russia can expect to see an increase in per traveler spending. On average, visitors attending the 2014 FIFA World Cup Brazil™ spent 31 percent more3 per card than regular tourists in Brazil. Visa projects this difference was a result of FIFA World Cup™ fans spending:

  • Over 25 percent more at restaurants
  • Over 10 percent more on transportation
  • Close to 10 percent more on lodging

“As the Official Payment Service Partner of FIFA, Visa is excited for fans all over the world to join us in Russia,” said Ekaterina Petelina, country manager, Visa Russia. “From unveiling the latest payment innovations to upgrading payment terminals to allow for contactless cards and digital payments, such as those made via phone or watch, throughout official venues, Visa will continue to elevate the fan experience. Visa provides simple and secure payment options for those in attendance, so they can get back to their seats quickly and focus on the match.”

Global ticket sales for the 2018 FIFA World Cup Russia™ continue to perform well, as FIFA recently reported4 that:

  • Close to 800,000 tickets have been sold so far to the FIFA World Cup global fan base.
  • Nearly 50 percent of the ticketing demand is coming from the host country, Russia, with Argentina, Australia, Brazil, China, Colombia, Germany, India, Mexico and the United States making up the largest number of international requests.

To ensure fans have a seamless and secure payment experience when attending the 2018 FIFA World Cup Russia™, Visa developed the following recommended travel tips that fans can take advantage of.

Know Before You Go to Russia

  • Notify your issuing bank or financial institution of anticipated travel plans, including use of Visa debit, credit or prepaid cards abroad to avoid any issues while processing transactions. Issuing banks can also provide information about travel-related benefits for Visa account holders, including opt-in mobile services, such as Mobile Location Confirmation through your bank’s mobile app or Visa’s Travel Authorization Tag.
  • Register for SMS notifications with your specific bank, or the bank’s transaction notification service, to track purchases made on your Visa accounts as you travel.
  • Set up automatic bill pay for any credit cards to give you some peace-of-mind that your account will be current while traveling abroad.
  • Make two copies of important travel documents, namely your passport, in case of emergency. Leave one copy with a friend or relative and carry the other separate from your original documents. You can also take a photo with your cellphone of important documents.

Travel Tips for Fans in Russia

  • When paying by card, pay in “local currency” for a competitive exchange rate.
  • Use a credit or debit card for purchases. Visa offers security, convenience and ease when paying abroad. It is safer than carrying cash.
  • Whenever possible, pay through a chip-activated terminal when using your credit or debit card for enhanced security.
  • Look for the Visa or PLUS logo at any point-of-sale terminal to ensure international payment cards are accepted.

As the Official Payment Service Partner of the 2018 FIFA World Cup Russia™, Visa will be celebrating the spirit of football in Russia and is looking forward to showcasing the future of digital payments with fans from all over the globe. Methodology

Visa International Travel (VISIT) platform is a proprietary model that combines Visa’s cardholder data with publicly-available cross-border arrival statistics. The database provides a comprehensive view into high-frequency cross-border travel flows, currently encompassing the top 82 origin and destination countries, which collectively account for more than 80 percent of global travel. VISIT combines unique counts of Visa cardholders that register a face-to-face transaction at a merchant outside their home country in a given calendar month with other transaction data such as average spend per cardholder, card usage patterns at lodging merchants and others. Visa uses this data to econometrically model official arrival statistics compiled by various government sources and to generate estimates that fill in the large gaps existing in the cross-border travel data.

The redesigned store is the first to feature the updated Karusel logo and some other elements of the chain’s new concept.

X5 strengthens its logistics operations with the opening of two new distribution centres in Yekaterinburg, Russia

Yekaterinburg, 2017-Jul-12 — /EPR Retail News/ — X5 Retail Group N.V. (“X5” or “the Company”), a leading Russian food retailer (LSE ticker: “FIVE”), announces the launch of two new state-of-the-art distribution centres (“DCs”) in Yekaterinburg: “Yekaterinburg” and “Kosulino”. The new DCs will help boost the efficiency of X5’s logistics operations, encourage more local sourcing and provide the best available prices to customers in the Ural, Volga and Siberian Federal Districts.

The Yekaterinburg DC has over 35,500 sq m of space and will service 1,260 Pyaterochka stores in the Sverdlovsk, Tyumen, Chelyabinsk, Kurgan, Novosibirsk, Omsk and Kemerovo regions, Khanty-Mansi Autonomous Area – Yugra, Yamal-Nenets Autonomous Area, and Perm territory. Featuring six storage zones with individual temperature bands, the facility is designed to accommodate all categories of goods.

The Kosulino DC consists of 13,700 sq m and will support supplies to 36 Perekrestok supermarkets and 9 Karusel hypermarkets in the Sverdlovsk, Tyumen, Chelyabinsk regions, Perm territory, and Khanty-Mansi Autonomous Area – Yugra. Featuring five storage zones, the DC is the first to service the Perekrestok and Karusel chains in the Urals.

The new DCs will ensure the freshness and availability of goods as X5 continues its rapid expansion. They will also help to cut transportation costs and unlock new opportunities for local producers. The DCs will also help to increase sales volumes for local producers and make their products available in new regions. At its full capacity, the Yekaterinburg DC will be able to handle and store products from over 480 suppliers, and the Kosulino DC will handle over 1,000 suppliers. The share of local goods in the product mix of Pyaterochka stores in the Sverdlovsk region is 35%, while for Perekrestok and Karusel it exceeds 20%.

The centre will deploy innovative solutions like dynamic slotting (a mathematical algorithm that provides for a shorter run for the picker based on order histories), voice picking (goods picked with the help of a voice terminal), EDI systems to maintain shelf availability and plan sales, and RFID technology to label goods and monitor their movement online. All these solutions, along with biometric employee identification, will help double labour productivity compared to peers.

X5 Retail Group invited managers of over 150 major suppliers from the Ural, Volga, and Siberian Federal Districts to the event. After the ceremony, the Kosulino DC hosted the X5 Dialogue Forum, where representatives of X5 Retail Group’s chain stores shared X5’s best practices in partnering with local suppliers and food producers. Russia: Lenta 1Q2017: total sales grew 17.2%

St-Petersburg, Russia, 2017-Apr-21 — /EPR Retail News/ — Lenta Ltd, (LSE, MOEX: LNTA / “Lenta” or the “Company”) one of the largest retail chains in Russia, is pleased to announce the Company’s consolidated sales and operating results for the first quarter ended 31 March 2017.

To download the full press release, please click here

1Q 2017 Operating Highlights:

• Total sales grew 17.2% in 1Q 2017 to Rub 77.9bn (1Q 2016: Rub 66.5bn);
• Like-for-like (“LFL”)1 sales growth of (1.7%) vs. 1Q 2016;
• LFL traffic growth of (2.0%) combined with a 0.3% increase in LFL ticket;
• Four new hypermarkets and four supermarkets opened during the first quarter of 2017 while one supermarket was closed;
• Total store count reached 247 stores as at 31 March 2017, comprising 195 hypermarkets and 52 supermarkets;
• Total selling space increased to 1,167,601 sq.m. as at 31 March 2017 (+30.3% vs. 31 March 2016); and
• Number of active loyalty cardholders2 increased to 11.1m (+25% y-o-y) with approximately 93% of transactions in the first quarter made using the loyalty card.

Material events in 1Q 2017 and after the reported period:
• The Company signed lease contracts with the ADG Group real estate development company to open 36 supermarkets (approx. 47,000 sq.m of total space and 30,300 sq.m of selling space) in Moscow shopping and entertainment centers in 2018-2019; and
• Lenta started expansion of its supermarket format in Novosibirsk with two stores opened in 1Q 2017.

Lenta’s Chief Executive Officer, Jan Dunning commented:

“The macro and consumer environment for food retail remained challenging in the first quarter of 2017. While Lenta stores continue to win customers from competitors, sales growth came under pressure due to a combination of falling inflation, changes in customer behaviour, one day less in February and our own rapid expansion which resulted in expected higher cannibalization effects. We hope to see some improvement in the environment later in the year and are putting sales initiatives in place to capitalize on this to deliver a pick-up in sales growth.

Customer numbers are running ahead of sales growth in both new and LFL stores, but as expected, cannibalization effects increased due to our rapid expansion in cities with existing Lenta presence. Consumers continued trading up in our stores for the second consecutive quarter, but this was offset by historically low on-shelf inflation and lower volume as customers reduced their food spending to compensate for pressure on their budgets. We see some stabilization of customer’s promo sensitivity, supported by the attractiveness of Lenta’s offering and low inflation. Visit frequency declined across much of the food retail sector – Lenta traffic improved compared to the previous quarter, but still remained in a negative territory.

We continue rolling-out new supermarkets in Moscow, St.Petersburg and the Central region3 and, as planned, started expanding the format in Siberia with two successful store openings in Novosibirsk. Our store opening guidance for 2017 and our long-term growth targets are unchanged, but we have decided to shift some store openings planned for 2018 into the second half of the same year which in combination with more predictable and efficient construction cycles will enable us to reduce capital expenditure in 2017. This will result in reduced leverage and provide more financial flexibility in case small acquisition opportunities appear in the future.”

Featuring four separate temperature zones, the facility is designed to store nearly all categories of goods.

The new logistics centre is designed to ensure the availability and freshness of goods even as Pyaterochka continues its active expansion. It will also help to cut transportation costs and unlock new opportunities for local suppliers. The Orenburg DC will be the focal point for local producers, helping them to increase sales and bring their products to new regions. Some have been enjoying the benefits of the DC for several months, as centre has been in operation since November 2016. Today, the DC has reached 100% capacity: it is now ready to handle and accommodate products from over 300 suppliers. The logistics facility increased the number of jobs supported by the Pyaterochka retail chain in the Orenburg Region by 180, with the total now exceeding 2,800 jobs.

The official opening ceremony for the DC was attended by Orenburg region Governor Yuri Berg and Pyaterochka CEO Olga Naumova. X5 Retail Group also invited management from over 50 suppliers to take part in the event. After the ceremony, Orenburg DC hosted the X5 Dialogue Forum, where representatives of X5 Retail Group’s stores shared best practices in partnering with local suppliers and food producers. Local manufacturers received valuable advice on how to build relationships with retail chains, including information on product quality controls and requirements for transportation, storage, sales and disposal of food products set out in the Customs Union’s and X5’s technical regulations.

X5 Retail Group views the development of logistics infrastructure as a strategic priority for the next several years. For the second year running, X5 leads the market by the number of DCs opened throughout the year. In 2015, X5 opened six new DCs with a total area of 142,000 sq m, while the seven new DCs opened in 2016 totalled 212,000 sq m.
