Starting today through December 24, Kmart will donate $1.00 to St. Jude* for every qualifying Facebook, Instagram or Twitter post that tags @Kmart and @stjude and includes the campaign hashtag #UglySweaterforBetter.

They are a fabulous fad that everyone loves!” said Kelly Cook, Chief Marketing Officer for Kmart. “What better way to spread holiday cheer for a good cause than by wearing your silliest, wackiest, straight-up tackiest ugly sweaters to benefit the patients and families of St. Jude? This relationship means so much to Kmart’s associates and members, and we ask for people of all ages to join in on the fun, strike a pose and help us raise a ton of money for this special organization.”Since 2006, Kmart has been one of the top fundraising corporate partners for St. Jude and raised more than $105 million for the hospital’s patients and families.

“Every year Kmart associates and shoppers open their hearts to the lifesaving mission of St. Jude through their incredible support of the St. Jude Thanks and Giving campaign,” said Marlo Thomas, National Outreach Director for St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital. “As a result of their efforts, Kmart has raised a remarkable $105 million for St. Jude, more than any company in the hospital’s history, allowing St. Jude to continue groundbreaking research and treatment all while keeping our founding promise that no family receives a bill from St. Jude for anything — not for treatment, travel, housing or food — because all a family should worry about is helping their child live.”

Target celebrates 20 years of supporting the mission St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital to end childhood cancer

Target has been proud to support the mission of St. Jude since 1996

MINNEAPOLIS, 2016-Dec-07 — /EPR Retail News/ — This month, Target Corporation (NYSE: TGT) and St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital® are celebrating 20 years of partnership in helping save the lives of children battling cancer and other life-threatening diseases. Target’s dedication to children and families at St. Jude began in 1996 with a commitment to design and build Target House, the hospital’s long-term housing facility that gives patients and families a home-away-from-home while undergoing treatment. Since opening in 1999, Target House has hosted more than 4,500 families from 45 states and 47 countries and territories. While accommodating up to 98 families at a time, each apartment is fully furnished with products donated by Target and vendor partners. Staying true to the mission of St. Jude, none of these families ever receive a bill for treatment, travel, housing or food – because all a family should worry about is helping their child live.

Beyond Target House, Target has donated millions of dollars throughout the years to help fuel groundbreaking research at St. Jude, giving the world new insights into some of the most aggressive childhood cancers and helping St. Jude to improve the quality of life for survivors. Treatments invented at St. Jude have helped push the overall childhood cancer survival rate from 20 percent to more than 80 percent since it opened more than 50 years ago.

“Target has been an incredible part of the St. Jude family, showing unwavering dedication to our lifesaving mission for two decades,” said Richard Shadyac Jr., president and CEO of ALSAC, the fundraising and awareness organization for St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital. “Target’s generosity means St. Jude patients and families can maintain a sense of normalcy during treatment, because Target has provided an amazing home-away-from-home through Target House as well as unique opportunities for patients to just be kids. The magical moments and unforgettable experiences Target has created help our patients and families escape the realities of their treatments and enjoy childhood. We are incredibly grateful to Target for its 20-year partnership and look forward to many more years to come.”

In addition, over the course of the 20-year partnership, Target’s support has included:

  • Target House Events: Target has thrown more than 100 St. Jude Target House events and other fun-filled carnivals, parties and more for the patients and families of St. Jude.
  • Sponsorships: Target sponsors events such as the National Walk/Run to End Childhood Cancer, Fall Festival of Hope and Red Carpet for Hope. Since 2009, there have been 25 Target-sponsored events.
  • St. Jude Thanks & Giving® Campaign: From 2004–2013, Target and key vendors supported the St. Jude Thanks & Giving® campaign through an in-store cause program benefitting St. Jude and Target House.
  • St. Jude School: In 2010, Target sponsored and helped fully renovate the St. Jude School, a space that houses programs that continue patients’ educational growth while at St. Jude and ensure they can celebrate important milestones, such as kindergarten graduation. Through 2015, Target’s support helped continue to expand the space and update furnishing and technology.
  • Target Team Member Volunteers: Thousands of Target team members around the country have gotten involved with St. Jude over the years, volunteering their time and energy to help further the St. Jude mission.

“We’re proud of Target’s longtime partnership with St. Jude and are honored to have helped the incredible patients and families at St. Jude over the past 20 years,” said Laysha Ward, chief corporate social responsibility officer, Target. “I visit Target House every year – the families that I’ve met and the hope and resilience I see in these children is awe-inspiring. On behalf of Target, I want to extend a huge thank you to the St. Jude team and all of the Target partners and volunteers across the country who have dedicated countless hours and financial resources to help St. Jude achieve their mission of saving lives and finding cures.”

The 20-year sponsorship celebration culminated last week with Target’s holiday Bullseye Bash, which was attended by Target’s chairman and CEO, Brian Cornell, and other Target leaders. Hundreds of patients and their families had a chance to enjoy a variety of holiday-themed activities, including Nutcracker-inspired performances featuring a cast of fun characters.  They also had an opportunity to meet Target’s dog mascot, Bullseye. Best Buy presented $10.2 million to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital from its St. Jude Thanks and Giving campaign

Richfield, MN, 2016-Feb-12 — /EPR Retail News/ — The recent St. Jude Thanks and Giving® campaign at Best Buy was the most successful one yet, but it’s the faces behind the cause that really matter. And this week, a group of Best Buy store general managers (GMs) got to see those faces, in person, at St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital®.

The GMs were from the stores that led the company in dollars donated or the percentage of transactions with a donation attached. As recognition for their fundraising, the leaders got to tour the hospital in Memphis and meet with patients and families. The leaders also ran Geek Squad activities that included coding, circuits and showing how music keyboards and game controllers work.

“It’s amazing to come here,” said Tommy Mejia, general manager of Best Buy Store 419 in Salem, N.H. “I felt last year how positive everyone is here and how the money we raise goes to the mission of helping kids fight cancer. This year I got to go in the lab and talk to the researchers who are working to crack the code on cancer.”

Sharon McCollam, Best Buy’s Chief Administrative Officer and Chief Financial Officer, presented St. Jude with a check for $10.2 million.

“Every time I come to St. Jude, I am overwhelmed not just by the standard of care the families are receiving, but also by the compassion, empathy, love and commitment of the St. Jude staff,” Sharon said. “We are humbled and grateful to partner with St. Jude once again.”

Best Buy welcomes the St. Jude Thanks and Giving campaign in its stores and online annually during the holiday season. Thanks to the generosity of Best Buy customers, this year the company made its largest donation yet. The contribution may help in any number of ways, including:

  • The ability to fully operate St. Jude for more than 5 days or
  • Providing 1,020,000 meals for St. Jude patients or
  • Covering the cost of 6,919 days of chemotherapy or
  • Paying for bone marrow transplants for 55 children or
  • Financing 2,040 days in the ICU

Every dollar will help St. Jude remain at the forefront of the global effort to research, treat, and defeat childhood cancer and other life-threatening diseases. In addition, the financial support helps ensure that no family will ever receive a bill from St. Jude for treatment, travel, housing or food. Best Buy customers donated more than $9.7 million to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital

Odessa, Texas, 2015-3-2 — /EPR Retail News/ — This past holiday, Mary Collett’s Best Buy mobile store in Odessa, Texas, was a company-wide leader in contributing to the St. Jude Thanks and Giving® campaign.

On Wednesday, she got to see first-hand all the good that money can do at St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital®.

“Until you visit St. Jude, you don’t really grasp the immenseness of it all,” she said during the tour of the Memphis-based hospital. “There are so many staff members. So many children. And they’re all so happy. The parents are happy, too. I had a mom give me a hug and say, ‘Thanks for what you do for my children.’”

Collett was one of more than two dozen Best Buy store leaders from across the nation who visited St. Jude’s, capped off by Best Buy’s Chief Administrative Officer and Chief Financial Officer Sharon McCollam presenting the hospital with a check for more than $9.7 million.

“The men and women of Best Buy are honored to help the children of St. Jude with this donation,” Sharon McCollam said. “We care deeply about St. Jude’s mission and it is heart-warming to know that the fundraising efforts in our stores and the generosity of our customers will help save the lives of some very special children. It is also extremely gratifying to know that the families of these children will never receive a bill. Through donations like ours, St. Jude makes it possible for families to only focus on one thing – making their child well.”

The $9,763,445 comes from Best Buy customers who donated to St. Jude while making their purchases this holiday season – and that total is more than three times Best Buy’s St. Jude Thanks and Giving® campaign goal of $3 million.

At St. Jude, families never receive a bill for treatment, travel, housing or food. During the campaign, which ran from Oct. 26, 2014 through Jan. 4, 2015, customers could make a donation at the register of every Best Buy store nationwide. New this year was a signature-pad prompt that made the donation process easier for employees and customers alike.

Seventy-five percent of the funds necessary to operate St. Jude are covered by public contributions like Best Buy’s, and every dollar given will help to make sure that families of patients never receive a bill from St. Jude for treatment, travel, housing and food. This contribution could:

  • Operate St. Jude for more than four days, or
  • Provide 970,000 meals for St. Jude patients, or
  • Fund 6,580 days of chemotherapy

“As we enter the second decade of our St. Jude Thanks and Giving® campaign, we could not have asked for a more wonderful performance from our partners,” said Marlo Thomas. “Best Buy and its customers truly came through for us this year, not only raising vital funds for the hospital, but also showing such care and concern for the children and their Moms and Dads.”

Ms. Thomas is the National Outreach Director for St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, and the co-creator of the St. Jude Thanks and Giving® campaign.
