New World Hutt City re-opens just in time for Christmas

Auckland, New Zealand, 2016-Dec-21 — /EPR Retail News/ — New World Hutt City re-opens at 1 pm Tuesday 20 December, 2016 and will be operating as usual with great products and awesome service. The Williams family want to say thanks to patient customers and fantastic staff. The Williams family, owner-operators of New World Hutt City just want to say thanks for the support, best wishes and patience from customers and staff alike. “We had so many customers who have saved their Christmas shop for us, so we’re expecting to be really busy over the next few days,” says Steve Williams.

For the last few days the New World team has been running a pop-up supermarket in the car park to ensure that customers could stock up on essentials at this busy time. “It was such an innovative way to keep our customers happy and the store staff busy,” says Chris Quin, CEO Foodstuffs North Island. “It took some doing, but it’s a model we could now run elsewhere should we need to – fingers crossed we don’t!”

The pop-up closed for good at 8 pm on Monday 19 December and the New World Hutt City store re-opens for business as usual from 1 pm, Tuesday 20 December – in plenty of time for locals to get sorted for Christmas.

“We know there are other businesses still affected by the demolition and we absolutely feel for them – it has really impacted our team and customers. We’re thankful for the support we’ve had from Council who have worked collaboratively with us.  If there is any way we can help other people in the same boat – we’re happy to,” says Steve.

New World Hutt City normal operating hours are 7 am to 10 pm, seven days. The supermarket will be closed on Christmas Day, but is otherwise open for business through the festive season and what is hoped by all will be a great summer.

New World Hutt City Pop-up store will be built in 24 hours

Auckland, New Zealand, 2016-Dec-12 — /EPR Retail News/ — We’ve been blown away by how popular our pop-up supermarket is. It’s so great to have our valued customers back shopping with us again while we wait to hear when we can re-open our proper store.

Come on down and check out the fresh fruit and veg, and our chillers packed with delicious dairy and deli items. 750 top favourite products are here to stock up the fridge and pantry at home. Laundry and bathroom items are also available and of course all at the great prices you’re used to. Your favourite New World team members are here to help you with whatever you need!

There’s loads of parking, you can use EFTPOS, and earn 2x points with your Clubcard.  We’re open from 8am to 8pm. Come on down. Access to the pop-up supermarket is from Kings Crescent.

New World Hutt City owners Steve and Sarah Williams have been truly overwhelmed by the messages of support from long-time customers who are keen for them to be back up and running with Christmas just around the corner. With typical Kiwi ingenuity they’re installing a pop-up shop in a giant marquee in a safe zone outside the existing store to cater to a very patient horde of loyal shoppers.

“We’ve had to close our store due to the required demolition of the Queensgate car park building.  It’s frustrating as our store is perfectly sound and packed to the rafters with awesome products our customers need.  We just can’t let them in safely at the moment,” says Sarah.

“So, the clever team at Foodstuffs North Island put their thinking caps on and together we’ve come up with a ‘New World Hutt Pop-up’ which will be live for a week or so.  The pop-up store will sit in our car park and offer a wide variety of fresh fruit and veg, popular dairy, meats, deli and frozen items and our most sought-after weekly grocery products.  We’ll have around 750 of our most popular items available for sale and of course it’s all the great quality and good value our customers know and love. ”

In the true spirit of the Foodstuffs Co-operative it’s been a real team effort to get this off the ground says Chris Quin, CEO Foodstuffs North Island.  “Our unique culture gives us the chance to think outside the square, and the close personal bonds we have with our owner-operators, and the connection they have in turn with their customers, push the whole team to do extraordinary things every day.”

The large marquee will be a real talking point in Hutt City. “There will still be plenty of parking, customers will be able to use EFTPOS, and everyone can still earn points on their New World Clubcard,” says Steve Williams, the other half of the husband and wife owner-operator team.  “Our staff can’t wait to get back in amongst it again, and catch up with customers they are used to seeing each week.”

The pop-up is likely to be in place until the Hutt City Council declares it’s safe to re-open the store following the demolition of the Queensgate car park and cinema.  “We’ve worked really closely with Council.  They have been very supportive at a very tough time for us and a number of other businesses in the area.  We’re hopeful to be back in the store proper as soon as possible,” says Chris Quin.

In the meantime Steve and Sarah want to thank all their customers and their amazing staff who have pulled out all the stops to get the pop-up going.  “We’re getting back on our feet again, and want to help you get back to normal too,” says Steve.  “Christmas is just around the corner, it’s time to load up on essentials – after all, there’s actually a lot to be thankful for, and it’s a time of year when generosity means everything.”

New World Hutt City closed until further notice due to earthquake damage risk identified

Auckland, New Zealand, 2016-Nov-26 — /EPR Retail News/ — New World Hutt City is currently closed due to the possible demolition of a neighbouring building at the Queensgate Mall.

Just prior to 8pm this evening (24/11/2016) Hutt City Council issued Foodstuffs with a warrant under the s129 Building Act 2004 regarding earthquake damage risk identified with the Queensgate Building. Receipt of the warrant means that with immediate effect the decision was taken to close New World Hutt City. The store will remain closed until further notice.

No other Foodstuffs stores in the Wellington region are affected by this issue and there are no safety issues with the New World Hutt City building. The store has been cleared by engineers following last week’s earthquakes and the closure is a precautionary measure only due to the potential risk posed by the neighbouring Queensgate Building.

“We are unable to give any further detail at this stage,” says Chris Quin, CEO, Foodstuffs North Island Ltd. “Our priority right now is with the customers and staff and ensuring the appropriate measures are taken with the closure of the store. We apologise to customers for the inconvenience, but staff and customer safety is paramount and legally we are required to act.”

The Williams family have been part of the Hutt City community for around 30 years, they are 100% committed to working with council and getting the store open again as soon as possible.

Steve Williams says, “Sarah and I are absolutely gutted that the store has been closed tonight. The team really pulled together following last Sunday night’s earthquake, they pitched in to get the store cleaned up and open for business and despite the aftershocks and bad weather we kept serving our loyal customers. To get through all of that unscathed and have the store closed due to risk from a neighbouring building is really tough to deal with – I’ve personally been at this store for over 25 years and I can guarantee you we’re not going anywhere. Our top priority is working with council to get the store open and serving the community again as soon as we can.”

“On behalf of the Williams family I would like to apologise to all of our loyal customers for the inconvenience, please bear with us, we are doing everything we can to work this through and get back to business as usual,” says Steve.
