Topman reveals its AW12 premium suiting collection

AW12 sees Topman launch a series of collections of premium suiting. Each collection has been designed using only the finest quality fabrics and cut to create a luxurious and premium finish and aesthetic. The collections are; Topman’s take on traditional Harris Tweed; Made in England where all cloth is woven and manufactured in the UK; and the inaugural Super Premium collection which uses the finest Italian fabrics to give a bespoke and luxurious feel and finish.

This season Topman introduces a nostalgic look at fabric within the Harris Tweed collection. Traditionally woven textures including berry coloured herringbones, multi flecked birdseye, coloured houndstooth and brushed plaids all lend themselves to giving a stronger sense of pattern and texture.

Focus is given through use of fabric rather than styling which is kept simple and understated. Slim peaked lapels and double back vent details sit alongside more understated double breasted and single-breasted styles.

The silhouette remains slim and maintains an air of a traditional fit. Trims and details remain faithful to the cloth used and include details such as football buttons, collar tabs and button through patch pockets.

A premium and robust collection of suiting and blazers, the Made in England collection combines traditional heritage fabrics and details with contemporary shapes and bold colours to create something altogether new and refreshingly modern. All cloth is woven and manufactured in the UK.

Fabrics are predominantly Shetland based wools in both plain weaves and herringbone pattern in a range of colours including mustard, raspberry and aqua. Key details include bellow pocket styling, contrast donkey patching, fabric contrast, collar tabs and tonal fabric mixing. Three piece suiting in peat brown, navy and industrial grey also appear alongside functional blazers and a beautiful navy marl wool overcoat.

The Super Premium collection is a sophisticated and elegant suiting collection designed using premium Italian fabrics such as super 120’s mohair, pique weave textured wools, two tone and Prince of Wales check. A nod to bespoke details such as two tone dobby linings, functional working cuffs, side adjusters and half lined trousers add refined working features to this collection of suiting to give it a premium and luxurious look and feel.

Gordon Richardson, Creative Director at Topman, said: “Our new elegant Super Premium Suit collection uses the finest cloths woven in Italy to produce a sophisticated and elegant range with refined bespoke details and a longer silhouette.”

This is a prestigious collection of suiting with consideration taken into account in terms of fabric, trim, detail and finish to offer something that little bit extra special. At the heart of the collection is the opportunity to buy into premium, luxurious suiting using the finest Italian fabrics and finish, without having to pay the premium price.

Burton, a classic British menswear brand, has announced that it now ships internationally. Practically wherever customers are in the world, they’ll now be able to receive their Burton.co.uk orders directly, quickly, and at an affordable price. The new service provides a fuss-free way to shop for men’s fashion items when overseas.

Head of Ecommerce at Burton, Richard Wilson, said of the launch: “International delivery is really exciting for us as a brand – it opens up a window of opportunity for the business, and means we can acquire customers from every corner of the globe. There are places where we believe there is a demand for international delivery already, such as in Germany and Australia – other Arcadia brands are enjoying great success there and we would expect to follow suit, but it’ll be interesting to see which other places are keen to use our new service.”

For loyal fans of men’s fashion, international delivery offers greater flexibility when shopping online. For those jet-setting off on a last-minute holiday minus their swimming trunks, that’s no longer a problem. They can log-on to their laptop, poolside, pick a pair from Burton.co.uk and have them delivered, whether it be to their hotel in Ibiza, or hostel in Thailand. Or for those signed-up for a stint working abroad, there is no need to miss out on must-have fashion trends and beloved British clothes.

With birthdays on the agenda year-round, a giftcard may act as a thoughtful present for those living overseas, and a convenient one too, as the recipient can pick and choose their new wardrobe themselves, at their convenience, and have it delivered directly.

Of course, international delivery allows Burton to reach out to new customers and to countries where stores may not yet be available. It’s a way for people from New Zealand to the Caribbean to get to know the Burton brand. With a range of seasonal and transitional items sold all year round at Burton.co.uk, overseas customers will be able to enjoy fashionable clothing from wherever they are in the world, be it summer or winter. And for those holed up in Canada, where it’s all about layering to stay warm, hoodies, crew neck jumpers, heavyweight jumpers and winter accessories are available for the majority of the year too.

For Burton fans living abroad, or for those looking to send gifts overseas, chances are Burton.co.uk can deliver straight to their doors.

Debenhams Announces the Return of the Short Suit

Debenhams has revealed that ‘Just William’ style blazers worn with matching shorts are up 500 per cent on last year, thanks to grown men sporting the look on high streets and in offices across the country.

Debenhams logo - links to home page

The surprise style hit of the summer, tailored short suits have been deemed smart enough for work yet cool enough for public transport, leading to a sales boom throughout the warm weather.

Spotted on the SS11 catwalks of Louis Vuitton, Jean Paul Gaultier and Dries Van Noten, this is one trend that has definitely made the leap to the great British high street.

The short suit is now available in all manner of fabrics and colours from powder blue linen through to black pinstripe cotton.

In fact, the most popular short suit has proved to be light blue, 100% linen Jeff Banks knee-length shorts and matching jackets which have been the store’s top selling menswear product for two weeks running already.

Men are typically wearing short suits with deck shoes – perfect for the tricky smart casual dress code.

Debenhams spokesperson, Ruth Attridge said: “We have heard about the emergence of ‘mankles’ – male ankles peeking out from rolled up trousers. Well, this takes it to the next level.

“All over the world, British men are renowned for exposing their white knobbly knees during the summer holidays. We want this great tradition to continue whether you are jetsetting, staycationing or off to work.”

The look was debuted by AC/DC lead guitarist Angus Young in the seventies and eighties but it wasn’t until recent shots of celebrities including tennis player Roger Federer, designer Henry Holland and The Only Way is Essex’s Mark Wright appeared that the fashion really took off.

Attridge continued: “For the daring few, wearing a short suit can be liberating experience, particularly when faced with the tropic temperatures of a morning commute.

“A certain level of confidence is needed to carry off this style however, and avoid teaming it with a tie and cap. You don’t want to look like Wee Jimmy Krankie.”

Debenhams sells over 300 varieties of men’s shorts, ranging from £13 to £65 in sizes 28 to 44.

Burton Announces The Montague Burton Collection

Burton has been a staple on the British high street for well over 100 years, with a heritage steeped in history, with this in mind, the brand is proud to announce the launch of its new Montague Burton Collection which draws on its history, looks at its archives for inspiration; and ultimately creates a capsule wardrobe for autumn winter that is proud to be British.

The range (named after Montague Burton, the founding father of the company in 1904) builds on the resurgence of national pride as the UK approaches the 2012 Olympics. With a nation united there has never been a better time to turn the nation’s attention to all things British.

The Montague Burton Collection has been crafted within British mills using British fabrics and key pieces from the range that have been designed using original, archived pieces. Through advances in garment technology Burton has created a vintage looking collection with a modern feel.

The classic “Charlie” overcoat for example has actually been designed using Montague Burton’s own personal coat which has been passed down from generation to generation of the Burton family.

The two wool suits in the range (one in a brown and the other in a grey salt and pepper tweed) have been carefully created to produce a stylish, modern take on an original 1958 design; perfect for those men mad on emulating 1950’s tailoring. Each item in the range has been given a typically British name reminiscent of a by gone age, including a trapper hat and flat cap called William and Harry which wouldn’t look out of place for a walk in the grounds of Balmoral Castle.

Knitwear is paramount within this collection with British wool being used to create jumpers, cardigans and roll necks that are perfect for layering. Cable knits add chunky texture that is sure to keep out the British weather this autumn/winter.

The Montague Burton collection has created a capsule wardrobe for the new season that nods to all things British. Celebrating this country’s strengths the new range uses Burton’s heritage as the foundation to create statement, investment pieces on the high street.

The rest of the collection includes trend led outerwear, knitwear and accessories in an earthy colour palette of khaki, ecru, grey, brown, moss and slate that mixes textures such as tweed, wool and suede to full effect.

Design details such as elbow patches, rope ties toggles and football buttons create a classic English country gent aesthetic that is set to be a big look this season. Further more this collection looks equally good in an urban city setting as it does on a long country walk.

The Montague Burton Collection launches in October 2011 in selected stores and online on Burton’s website.

Burton Exclusively Launches Mark Ecko Cut and Sew in the UK

Burton has revealed that it will be the exclusive stockist of Mark Ecko Cut and Sew in the UK.

With an impressive C.V of achievements Mark Ecko now turns his talents to creating classic tailoring, Burton is proud to announce that his Cut and Sew collection will be available exclusively within its stores and online.

Not many people can boast that they were the youngest person to be inducted into the Council of Fashion Designers of America, or that they were the first person to receive a MTV VMA for “Best Video Game Soundtrack”.

Mark can also site such diverse friends such as Lindsay Lohan, Hugh Hefner and George Lucas and was also a key speaker at the United Nations World Entrepreneurship Day in 2010.

As a publishing, internet, fashion and videogame entrepreneur he caused a worldwide news frenzy when he tagged Air Force One with graffiti reading “Still free” emblazoned on it. He actually hired a Boeing 747 and painted it to look like the real deal, receiving over 114 million views on You tube, 7,000 news stories around the world and 3 denials from the Pentagon.

Now the British high street gets the Mark Ecko treatment with the new Cut & Sew collection. This range blends classic tailoring with sharp lines and is designed for those who want to start dressing a little more seriously but still maintain their youthful spirit.

The four single breasted, two button suits arrive in a black tailored, a grey sharkskin, a black narrow pinstripe, and a grey herringbone.

Debenhams Reveal Men’s Age Of Invisibility Increased By At Least A Decade

Debenhams has revealed that the age at which men become ‘invisible’ to women has advanced by at least a decade, according to new research* carried out by the retailer. Men can now win a woman’s attention based on looks alone up until they are 55 years old.

Just 30 years ago, few women would have found any man over 45 years old worth a second glance, rendering them effectively invisible at any gathering.

Ruth Attridge, Debenhams’ spokeswoman said: “Older men are now remaining more attractive to women for longer than ever before.

“They are increasingly seen as eligible, prospective partners rather than old bores with little energy left to catch the female eye.

“It’s great news for George Clooney and Brad Pitt, but might not make that much difference to Bruce Forsyth.”

A much greater emphasis on dressing well and keeping fit has dramatically improved the impression an older man can create across a crowded room, Debenhams’ research shows.

Many men now spend a lot of time, either alone, with a partner or with a professional personal shopper, selecting styles which suit their figure, as well as paying attention to colour co-ordination to complement their complexion, hair and eye colour.

Baldness is no longer seen as a stigma, and even a slight paunch isn’t enough to prevent him from gaining female attention.

The trend towards women marrying and having children in their late 30s and early 40s has also decreased the age difference which would once have made older men ineligible.

They often find the increased financial status of older men reassuring because it can represent increased security for their children.

Burton Unveils The Perfect Black Suit

Burton was set the challenge by the owner of the brand, Sir Philip Green to design the perfect single breasted black suit for the autumn/winter 2010 season. Each suit, as well as the accompanying formal white shirt, was given the brief to look great on any of their customers but without the bespoke Saville Row price tag.

With Burton’s renowned heritage for tailoring dating back to 1903, Sir Philip automatically thought the brand would be able to crack this suiting conundrum. Over the years Burton has achieved such accolades as producing uniforms for British troops in both World War I & II, creating the demob suit (leading to the company coining the phrase “the full Monty”) and suiting and booting the winning England World Cup team in 1966.

Additionally, Burton has dressed such diverse celebrities as Vinnie Jones, Sean Connery, Joe Cole, Bobby Moore and Steve Jones, all of whom know the power of a well cut suit.

Although a hard task to crack, the team have achieved what can only be described as producing a suit which looks great on any man.

The perfect black suits come in four styles, with two slim and two tailored fits creating a clean and masculine silhouette for autumn/winter 2010. This, coupled with the fabric choice of black mohair, as well as the varied lapel widths including a slim and wide peak and a notch lapel, ensure that every man can wear the look this season.

Burton Is Celebrating The Resurgence Of The 80’s And The Reuniting Of Ska Legends ‘The Specials’, With The Launch Of A Limited Edition Tonic Suit

With the 80’s making a forceful statement on the high street once again, the men’s fashion world is drawing influence from many cultural facets, from art to music. To celebrate this new trend and the 30th anniversary tour of cult band The Specials, Burton has designed two new exclusive versions of their classic tonic suit and used key design elements from their archives to create the new ‘Mod’ suit.

More prevalent than with other musical styles, achieving exactly the right look has always been a defining part of the Mod and Ska movement. Sharp suits with precise lines and clean cut styling epitomized the look of 2 Tone, and now with the reforming of The Specials to celebrate their 30th anniversary, the look is also set to make its return.

Available in deep blue and charcoal, the limited edition suit is 100% wool and has an extra finish which creates a slight sheen to give it the tonic look. The style is a one button single breasted slim fit jacket with a narrow peak lapel, while the trouser is narrower on the calf and thigh and at just £99 makes it an affordable style essential for every man. Slim fit tonic waistcoats can be added to help finish the classic ‘Rude Boy’ look.

The Specials tour will see the 2 Tone Coventry Gangsters getting suited and booted again in their iconic suits as they tour 6 venues across England and Scotland in April and May.

The limited edition Burton Tonic Suits will be available in the Bath, Poole, Bluewater, White City, New Enfield, Portsmouth, Liverpool, Swansea, and Braehead stores, as well as online.

Burton Announces Their New Heritage Collection, A Stylish Range Of Quality Contemporary Suiting, Born Out Of A Passion For Traditional Tailoring Methods

Burton, the leading UK menswear retailer, has announced their new Heritage collection. This latest range of stylish quality contemporary suiting is born out of the long held Burton passion for traditional tailoring methods. The collection will be featured in selected stores and online throughout the UK this autumn alongside Burton’s mainline and concession tailoring.

Burton has sought to ensure attention to detail is key throughout the Heritage collection.

These latest mens jackets feature a half canvas construction which forms to the body to give the wearer more comfort. The fabric selections reflect a strong attention to detail with the use of traditional Prince of Wales check and pin stripes inspired by the Burton mens clothing archives.

The fabric selection and labeling of the mens suits take their inspiration from original 1940s, 50s and 60s Burton garments which are then brought up to date with a sharper modern fit. The suits are made from pure merino wool and woven in the British mill first used by Montague Burton over 70 years ago and feature intricate detailing such as trouser brace buttons and an embroidered Burton “B” on the under collar.

Montage Burton once said, “Good clothes develop a man’s sense of self respect”, and the Heritage collection continues his legacy by offering a superior garment at an accessible price.
