Chinese produced Cabernet Sauvignon now available at Tesco stores

CHESHUNT, England, 2017-Apr-28 — /EPR Retail News/ — It’s already one of the UK’s most popular cuisines but now shoppers across the UK will be able to complete the Oriental dining experience with a bottle of Chinese wine.

Tesco has started selling an impressive Chinese produced Cabernet Sauvignon that it believes could finally open the doors in Britain to this fast emerging wine-making nation.

The new wine, Chateau Changyu Moser XV Cabernet Sauvignon 2015, is a cross between a classic Bordeaux and a rich fruity Australian wine, and is available for less than £10.

While China may not immediately conjure up images of classic vineyard country, the International Organisation of Vine and Wine (OIV) has placed China- after Spain- as the country with the second biggest vineyard area in the world.

In fact, the Chateau Changyu Moser XV estate claims to have become one of the world’s biggest wine producers- with 100 winemakers who make 150 million bottles a year.

The wine is produced in the region of Ningxia, in northern China, which has a warm and dry climate and boasts an average of 3000 sunshine hours a year – 800 hours more than Bordeaux – earning it a reputation of being the country’s Napa Valley.

Tesco’s Master of Wine James Davis believes China will soon be a powerful player in the wine world and this launch could help give it its first major push in the UK.

He said:

“China is one of the world’s biggest consumers of wine, drinking almost two billion bottles of red wine each year.

“And now they are one of the largest wine producing countries in the world, ahead of the more traditional regions of Chile and New Zealand.

“Produced in a warm and dry climate, the Chateau Changyu Moser XV Cabernet Sauvignon 2015, is a dark ruby red.

“The smooth, full bodied wine is a combination of a classic Bordeaux style with the riper, richer fruit flavours which are characteristic of Australian wines.

“At a great introductory offer of £7, this wine offers customers an opportunity to discover a unique, but quality wine at an affordable price.

“This Chinese wine is very food friendly and works well with a variety of dishes – they are also a great talking point at the dinner table!”

James recommends trying the wine with Crispy Aromatic Duck or a slow roasted lamb shoulder as it compliments and balances the rich meat flavours.

The addition of the Chateau Changyu Moser XV Cabernet Sauvignon 2015 means that Tesco now sells wine from 20 countries around the world- including Hungary, Israel and Greece.

It will be available in over 700 stores and online, and will go on sale with an introductory price of £7. Following that it will be priced at £8.

Over the last 18 months, Tesco has continued to develop its wine range to offer customers a great selection of quality of wines. Tesco is the UK’s largest wine retailer.

Narragansett turkey available online and in Tesco stores across the UK this Christmas

CHESHUNT, England, 2016-Dec-13 — /EPR Retail News/ — A rare breed of premium heritage turkey which has not been sold in supermarkets for more than 70 years has been brought back by Tesco.

The Narragansett turkey, which was bred by crossing old English breeds together over 200 years ago, is a real gourmet treat.

It’s been selected by the supermarket for its finest range, because of its unique, succulent and flavoursome taste.

Narragansetts are particularly distinctive because of the way they are reared. Living on acres of land, they are among the most free range birds in the UK- they can eat, rest and play whenever they like.

They spend their days exploring their surroundings in woodland and rural areas, pecking at soil and eating the same natural diet they would have in the wild.

Game cover – such as strips of plants like kale and chicory – is also planted on the land so the birds are sheltered from the late summer sun, winter wind and rain.

Tesco turkey buyer Suzanne Eldridge explains:

“With only a few days to go before the big day, the Narragansett is the bird to impress guests and to treat the family this Christmas.

“Considered to be the king of British turkeys, the wonderful tasting dark meat and a succulent breast certainly has the flavour to match its reputation.”

The Narragansett is being bred for Tesco by award-winning farmers in East Anglia and is available online and in Tesco stores across the UK from £9 per kg.

It was reintroduced to customers, after trials over the last two years proved that there was a huge appetite for this heritage turkey.

Note to editors

*The last dates for turkey ordering at Tesco are midnight on Wednesday Dec 14 for tesco.com orders and Thursday midnight for store shoppers.

The Narragansett gets its name from the area in Rhode Island, North America where some of the English pioneers settled in New England and starting breeding the turkeys they brought with the native, wild American variety.

Customers can order turkeys here, but supply is limited. A whole Narragansett will cost £9 per kilo while a crown will cost £16 per kilo.

New partnership brings Holland & Barrett health and wellbeing products in Tesco stores across the UK

CHESHUNT, England, 2016-Jul-27 — /EPR Retail News/ — Tesco and Holland & Barrett have today announced an exciting new partnership to introduce a health and wellbeing ‘store in store’ format in a number of Tesco stores across the UK.

The new partnership follows Tesco’s successful introduction of several Arcadia sites in its larger stores last year which showed that shoppers find it more helpful to combine shopping at Tesco with other well-known brands. Both businesses are keen to learn how the new proposition and format will be received by customers, but are confident the brands and propositions will work successfully alongside each other in store.  The first Holland and Barrett store opened in the Dudley Tesco Extra on Monday 25th July, with a number of further concessions set to be introduced over the summer.

Holland & Barrett’s sales areas will include a range of popular brands from the specialist health and wellness retailer, including Bootea, snail gel and its best-selling coconut-based products.  The new format will be integrated within Tesco’s store sales floors, enabling Tesco customers to shop across some 3000 product lines from Holland & Barrett’s health, food, beauty and sports ranges. Customers will also be able to access Holland & Barrett’s popular natural beauty section showcasing the brand’s ethical and natural beauty products, its natural Tea Bar and its Pick n Mix station for healthy snacking.

Holland & Barrett staff in the trial stores will be trained in the same way as all Holland & Barrett staff in the company’s ‘Qualified to Advise’ standards, the equivalent of an A-level in nutrition, and will be able to answer and advise on a range of customer queries from sports nutrition through to pregnancy supplementation.

Matt Davies, Tesco UK and ROI CEO said:
“We’re always looking at new ways our stores can best serve the needs of our customers, so we’re excited to be embarking on this partnership with such a recognized and trusted brand as Holland and Barrett. The new concessions will provide an exciting new offer for our customers that will complement our Tesco stores.”

Commenting on the trial, Holland & Barrett CEO Peter Aldis said:
“This pilot is a fantastic opportunity to demonstrate the value of a partnership between two trusted and complementary brands in retail and we are excited to be exploring with Tesco how their customers respond to this innovative in-store concept.

“We know that Tesco’s customers are diverse, like ours, but one thing that they have in common is that they want access to a wide range of health and wellbeing products without having to take too much time out of their busy routines to source them. We hope that this pilot will help them to achieve this as we continue our mission to bring health and wellbeing to high streets across the UK.”
