€250,000 Milestone

The launch of this initiative coincides with Topaz announcing that it has raised €250,000 to date for the Jack & Jill Children’s Foundation, through various fundraising initiatives by Topaz staff and customers, including Small Change for Big Change, TheLEGO® Exchange and Raise a Teacup, along with multiple fundraising events held internally for staff. These campaigns have resulted in the provision of over 15,000 hours of home care nursing to date for the Jack & Jill Children’s Foundation.
The partnership, launched in 2015, will see Topaz raise €400,000 in vital funds for the children’s foundation, and the winter car raffle will really help to accelerate efforts to reach the target.

Not only is this car raffle one of our biggest fundraising drives for the Jack & Jill partnership to date, but we are also celebrating the news that €250,000 has been raised to date across the network in support of this vital charity. Topaz awards €10,000 to Bray Hockey Club as part of its Cash for Clubs initiative

DUBLIN, IRELAND, 2017-Oct-17 — /EPR Retail News/ —

Bray Hockey Club Scoops top prize of €10,000

This year, over 3,000 clubs registered for the Topaz’ Cash for Clubs initiative. Since its launch in 2015, Cash for Clubs has €400,000 in prizes to clubs across the island of Ireland.

Bray Hockey Club, Co. Wicklow, is the grand prize winner of Cash for Clubs 2017. After signing up to the community initiative, members and friends of the Wicklow club simply fuelled up at their local Topaz in Brennanstown, Co. Wicklow, and donated their collected tokens to their club. Bray Hockey Club was then randomly drawn as this year’s lucky grand prize winner, scooping the top prize of €10,000.

Being at the heart of local communities across the country, Topaz recognises the vital role that clubs of all shapes and sizes play in providing opportunities for people of every age to learn new skills, socialise and be active. Given the challenges clubs across Ireland face when it comes to vital fundraising, Topaz introduced the ‘Cash for Clubs’ scheme in 2015 to give clubs the opportunity to generate much-needed funds by harnessing the support of their members and the local community.

Sarah O’Connor, Bray Hockey Club Treasurer said: “We are absolutely thrilled to be the winners of this year’s Cash for Clubs grand prize! €10,000 will go such a long way and will enable us to invest in new equipment and the development of our facilities. We are incredibly grateful and excited for what we can achieve, so a massive thanks to Topaz!”

MJ Tierney, Head of Marketing at Topaz, added: “We are delighted to be awarding the €10,000 grand prize to such a deserving club. Topaz strives to be an intrinsic part of communities across Ireland, providing a daily service across the 32 counties, and the Cash for Clubs initiative enables us to reward local clubs of all shapes and sizes. We would like to congratulate all our winners this year, and Bray Hockey Club especially, who have been lucky enough to win the €10,000 grand prize.

“Cash for Clubs offers an all-inclusive platform, which ensures everyone is a winner and rewards the tireless work of clubs across the country that demonstrate commitment to their communities, day in and day out. We are excited to see the positive impact that the grand prize will make to Bray Hockey Club over the coming months.”

Topaz Cash for Clubs supports Powerchair Trailblazers Club of Co. Antrim

Topaz Cash for Clubs supports Powerchair Trailblazers Club of Co. Antrim

DUBLIN, IRELAND, 2017-Jun-23 — /EPR Retail News/ — Powerchair Football is the first competitive team sport designed and developed specifically for power wheelchair users. When the Powerchair Trailblazers Club of Co. Antrim got the call to say they’d won £1,500 having entered their club for Topaz Cash for Clubs 2016, they were the delighted at the thought of being able to raise awareness of a sport which is still somewhat in its infancy and to also have the opportunity to build on the great strides made by the club over the past decade or so.

Six months after Michael Hilland attended an IFA wheelchair football event in Belfast in 2008 with his son, Trailblazers PFC was formed in order to provide an opportunity for people with physical disabilities to play football. Since then, the club has grown and developed with the help of committed parents and the supporting local community. In September 2013 Michael and Stephen McVeigh began coaching the team.

When asked what the Cash for Clubs win has done for the club and its members, Michael commented on the great improvements that have been made.

“Our Cash for Clubs prize win has been a great financial help for the club. The money has allowed us to replace tyres on the powerchairs and we will now be able to purchase tracksuits and tops for the new season in September.”

The interest in Cash for Clubs first came about when one of the club’s members, John Stewart, mentioned the Topaz initiative and suggested registering the team. Gordon Stewart, whose family business is the Topaz Airport Road Service Station, Tully Road offered to nominate the Trailblazers in the hope of them becoming one of the lucky winners. Following on from their win, the club is already registered this year and are urging more clubs to enter Cash for Clubs 2017.

The club provides people with disabilities from across Northern Ireland with the opportunity to participate in sport as well as socialise and have fun, and Michael believes the club’s involvement in Topaz Cash for Clubs has helped spread this important message by leveraging the support of the wider community.

“The prize has very much impacted the local community and has helped us achieve greater awareness of the club, letting other people with physical disabilities know that there is a football game that they can play and enjoy.”

Not only do Trailblazers provide a platform for young people with disabilities to express themselves and their love of the game, the opportunity to participate and be a part of a team environment is one of the club’s primary areas of focus, according to Michael.

“Everybody wants to have an identity and the players have built the identity of Trailblazers up over the past five or six years. That has given the players a sense of purpose in a social and competitive environment through which to enjoy football with their peers. That’s more important than the game itself.”

Letterkenny RFC gets support from Topaz Cash for Clubs

Letterkenny RFC gets support from Topaz Cash for Clubs

DUBLIN, IRELAND, 2017-Jun-08 — /EPR Retail News/ —  “We have some big targets to achieve, but we are on a roll since the Cash for Clubs win – like the Irish front row there is no stopping us now!”

When Michael MacGinty answered his phone to a call from MJ Tierney from Topaz in August of last year, the timing really could not have been better. As chairman of Letterkenny RFC, Michael was in the process of looking after the various administrative tasks involved in the day-to-day management of a local sports club. By the end of the phone conversation, the Donegal club had received a cash investment of €10,000 after being randomly drawn out as the Grand Prize winner as part of Topaz Cash for Clubs.

“The boost we received through the prize win allowed us to concentrate on getting our finances in order, which we have done successfully,” said Michael. “This sort of competition gives clubs a way to raise funds without selling more tickets to cash strapped parents. It is a great way for Topaz to give back to its community and we appreciate it.”

While the financial benefit of Cash for Clubs made an immediate contribution to club operations, the impact in terms of lifting spirits was felt from the off, and according to Michael, Letterkenny’s participation levels are very much in rude health.

“The publicity surrounding the competition last year has been immensely positive. The kids’ friends have been attracted to try their hands at Rugby, so our numbers are well up. Our challenge for next season is being able to offer membership to all the kids who want to participate in Rugby in Letterkenny. So, we need more coaches, more equipment and a budget for travel, plus an all-weather pitch. We have some big targets to achieve, but we are on a roll since the Cash for Clubs win – like the Irish front row there is no stopping us now!”

As well as receiving a €10,000 cash investment as part of Topaz Cash for Clubs, Letterkenny RFC’s youngest club members enjoyed a very special one-day training camp with one of the world’s leading Fly-halfs and Topaz Cash for Clubs ambassador Johnny Sexton. Taking a trip to Bective Rangers in Donnybrook, where Johnny himself played mini Rugby, a contingent of Letterkenny’s mini’s joined Johnny for the training session of a lifetime.

“Our kids themselves loved winning a prize in Cash for Clubs. And the ones who were lucky enough to meet Johnny Sexton are still talking about that day – as are the coaches!,” said Michael, reflecting on the Training Day experience itself.
Letterkenny RFC’s experience of winning the €10,000 grand prize as part of Topaz Cash for Clubs along with the masterclass with Johnny Sexton, generated enormous positivity around the club and spirits are well and truly buoyed as the club prepares to enter again this year.

Michael commented: “Topaz can expect a lot of other Donegal sports clubs to apply this year, because many clubs said to us that they could do with the same win as us, to help them drive forward and offer better facilities. They asked how did we manage to get that prize – to which we said we entered and simply participated, Topaz did the rest.”

  • 10 clubs thereafter will win €5,000
  • 140 clubs after that will win €1,000

DUBLIN, IRELAND, 2017-May-22 — /EPR Retail News/ — Topaz, Ireland’s leading fuel and convenience retailer, has partnered with two of Ireland’s leading sportspeople, Kevin McManamon and Bríd Stack, to officially launch Cash for Clubs 2017 and encourage people across Ireland to go the extra mile for their local community.

The programme offers clubs of all types and sizes from across the island of Ireland the chance to win up to €10,000 in funding with a total of €200,000 in cash prizes up for grabs as part of the initiative, which returns for a third year.

Following the huge success of Cash for Clubs over the past two years, Topaz is continuing to recognise the intrinsic role that passionate people play in driving clubs across Ireland and the vital role that these local heroes play in providing members of the public with opportunities to meet new people, be active and learn valuable.

Both Kevin and Bríd are best known for their talents and achievements on the field of play, but they share a common understanding of the importance of cross-code participation at a grassroots level and are known for going the extra mile off the field as well as on it.

With a significant national footprint and extensive customer network located across the country, Topaz understands the difficulties that local clubs can face to raise much needed funds to support the services and facilities they provide.

Speaking at the launch of Topaz ‘Cash for Clubs’, Marketing Director of Topaz, Margaret Barron said: “With 430 forecourts located nationwide and a presence in every county on the island of Ireland, Topaz is really at the heart of Irish communities and we understand the important role of local clubs in bringing people together. Following the huge success of ‘Cash for Clubs’ over the past two years, we are thrilled to continue this initiative in 2017 by recognising the hard work of club networks across the country and contributing a further €200,000 to local clubs.

Topaz ‘Cash for Clubs’ is open to all clubs no matter how big or small, so whether your local club is passionate about sport, dance, food or even language based, we are encouraging people to go that extra mile for their chosen club by collecting ‘Cash for Clubs’ tokens at Topaz service stations. It is also a great opportunity to get your friends, family and neighbours to come together to help to win funds for your local community.”

Topaz ‘Cash for Clubs’ ambassador Kevin McManamon added: “I’m very happy to be involved in this year’s Topaz ‘Cash for Clubs’ initiative, which plays a vital role in bringing clubs and communities even further in their efforts to secure much-needed support and funds. I have seen first-hand how challenging it can be for clubs to continually raise funds to keep services and facilities to the standard they need to be.

With Topaz Cash for Clubs, everyone can get behind their local club and help show their support for a cause they feel strongly about – whether it’s a team they play for, a local music group they’re involved with or simply a club they follow.”

How it works:

The programme works directly through the Topaz Play or Park Loyalty platform. Clubs can register at playorpark.ie/cash-for-clubs (ROI) or playorpark.co.uk/cash-for-clubs (NI) and, once registered, members of the club and customers in their community can start collecting tokens using a Play or Park gametag, which are available in-store or through the Topaz Play or Park app. You’ll receive one token once you spend €30/£20 or more on fuel purchases and once you have linked your gametag to your chosen club your tokens will be automatically allocated to your club. Once a club has collected 2,000 tokens, they will be automatically entered into an ‘everyone-wins’ draw.

Topaz announces €6 million investment to introduce its new fuel brand miles

Topaz announces €6 million investment to introduce its new fuel brand miles

DUBLIN, IRELAND, 2017-May-01 — /EPR Retail News/ — Topaz, Ireland’s largest fuel and convenience retailer, has announced a €6 million investment to introduce miles, its new fuel brand, across its 430-strong network of service stations in Ireland. The rollout of miles is set to be completed at all Topaz sites by August 2017. This is the latest initiative as part of Topaz’s ongoing promise to bring leading global innovations to the Irish market in line with their continued integration with Circle K.

miles is a new and improved fuel that contains a unique blend of additives designed to take motorists up to 3% further. Its performance has been tested and verified by a third party independent research and development centre – which confirms miles as a superior quality fuel.

The main innovation with miles is a powerful new fuel additive, which can provide better economy on a tank of miles fuel when compared to standard fuels. This innovation comes with direct benefits to motorists; miles can clean and protect engines, enhance engine efficiency and improve reliability, and reduce harmful exhaust emissions.

The €6 million figure represents an investment across all areas of implementation for the new brand, to include marketing, forecourt renovations and new pump installation. It is part of Topaz’s wider plan to adopt best practice and technology, and to invest in market-leading innovations as it continues to grow and improve its network in Ireland.

Gordon Lawlor, Fuels Director, Topaz, said of the announcement: “At Topaz, one of the core aspects of our business is innovation; whether in food offerings, customer service, or fuel. The rollout of miles in Ireland, and the significant investment in the brand, represents a commitment to innovation, and to providing customers with the best quality fuelproducts in Ireland.”

“Across our 430-strong network of service stations, our fuels are randomly tested by the AA to ensure our fuel quality meets the highest standards. In addition, miles has received the Quality Approved endorsement from AA Ireland,  so customers can rest assured their fuel is assessed to the highest standards and they are getting the best available on the market.”

This latest investment announcement by Topaz follows a string of significant investments, including the recent creation of 230 new jobs through the opening of two new motorway service areas in Carlow and Fermoy later this year. In the past 24 months, Topaz has invested over €36 million in its retail network with investment going towards the development of its Re.Store brand, the upgrade and rebrand of the recently acquired Esso network, and the development of major Topaz sites at City Avenue in Dublin and Ballysimon in Limerick.

Topaz Quality Fuels Index 2016 reveals 96% of Irish motorists want to reduce their impact on the environment

DUBLIN, IRELAND, 2016-Sep-24 — /EPR Retail News/ — Topaz Quality Fuels Index 2016 reveals Ireland’s preferences when it comes to filling up the fuel tank.

Topaz, Ireland’s largest fuel and convenience retailer, has today announced the results of its 2016 Quality Fuels Index, which exposes what Irish motorists really think when it comes to fuelling up. The results have revealed that a massive 96% want to reduce their impact on the environment by driving more efficiently on the country’s roads.

Topaz are calling on the nation’s drivers to clean and protect their car engine’s vital parts by using its groundbreaking Quality Fuel additive, which improves efficiency on all major engine types by up to 3% and helps to keep your vehicle performing at its best. In its 2nd year, the findings from the 2016 Topaz Quality Fuels index has revealed some very interesting facts about Irish motorists.

A significant 83% of respondents have confessed that they fuel up to the nearest round number, when asked why 45% admitted that they never thought of the reasoning behind it but 24% have asserted that it’s down to the inner creatures of habit in us! Focusing on consumer behavior regarding tank fill patterns, under half (46%) admit that €10 is the smallest amount of fuel they have ever put into their car, while 29% assert that they’ve put €5 worth of fuel into their tank on occasion.

To fuel stop…or not to fuel stop!
Making that all important decision on where to stop for fuelling up is not a decision that Ireland’s drivers take lightly. Over 70% of motorists will only fuel up with a recognized retailer, with the in-store product range available in the country’s forecourts impacting a quarter of respondents when it comes to their decision on where to stop.

In the unbranded survey, Topaz has come out as the most favoured fuel supplier, with 37% asserting that the retailer would be their preferred choice for fuel and convenience edging out their closest competitors. When asked why, 70% have asserted that accessibility to water and to check tyre pressure on the forecourt is important and 83% of respondents prefer to combine their fuel stop with their grocery shop.

You’ve got a fuelling friend
57% of respondents would call upon a parent or guardian for assistance if they got into a spot of fuelling bother, while 17% would pick up the phone right away to AA breakdown assistance. Vulnerability is the first thing 37% of Irish drivers feel if they’re running low on fuel while on a motorway, while just under a quarter of respondents (24%) feel uncomfortable when they’re running on near empty driving a by-road.
When asked what the key step respondents take to conserve their fuel would be, almost two-thirds (64%) admit that they keep their RPM (revolutions per minute) low. Another topic that’s splitting respondents is the level of frequency in which they check their tyres, while 40% check theirs monthly, 24% even go so far as check them weekly.

Now it’s time to protect your engine with Topaz’s Quality Fuels additive!
Today’s survey results announcement reinforces the importance of the fuel you choose in keeping your car performance at its best. Keeping your car regularly topped up, ensuring the correct tyre pressure and purchasing fuel from a trusted branded retailer are all ways in which customers can ensure maximum performance from their vehicle. Couple these tips with Topaz’s Quality Fuels which contain a powerful in-fuel additive that improves your engine’s efficiency by up 3% when compared to standard fuels.

Topaz’s fuel experts have worked closely with an industry leading laboratory to develop an innovative, in-fuel additive that has been scientifically proven to take your vehicle further per tank than ordinary unadditised fuel. Topaz Quality Fuels are further Quality Approved by AA Ireland, giving you added reassurance with a standard that allows for Topaz to constantly check the level of service they provide and the quality of its products against the highest standards in the marketplace.

Gordon Lawlor, Fuels Director of Topaz Energy said: ‘Most of us are prone to being creatures of habit when it comes to filling up the fuel tank.  With the launch of our Topaz Quality Fuels campaign for 2016, we want to educate motorists to understand that not all fuels are the same. We hope that this survey would continue to encourage drivers nationwide to use Topaz Quality Fuels. Our fuels can help to clean your engine and improve your vehicles fuel efficiency by up to 3% thanks to our powerful fuel additive which is unique to the Irish marketplace.

Director of Consumer Affairs of AA Ireland, Conor Faughnan commented: “When it comes to reducing the environmental impact of driving, as well as ensuring the best running of their car, many motorists overlook the importance of fuel quality. By using a higher quality petrol or diesel, drivers will save money in the short and long-term by avoiding the damage which a lower quality fuel can cause to the vital parts of their car.”

Topaz survey reveals what Irish parents think when it comes to choosing the right car seat for their child

New Topaz research reveals Ireland’s priorities for keeping kids safe on the road

DUBLIN, IRELAND, 2016-Aug-13 — /EPR Retail News/ — Topaz, Ireland’s largest fuel and convenience retailer, has today (10 Aug 2016) revealed the results of a new survey exposing what Irish parents really think when it comes to choosing the right car seat for their child.

Today’s survey results launch coincides with the announcement that Topaz are teaming up with Mothercare Ireland to give their customers the opportunity to avail of an expert car fitting service FREE of charge. The initiative will kick off this Friday 5thAugust at the Topaz Taney Road, Goatstown in Dublin and will be visiting selected sites until the 28th of August. Topaz are calling on their customers nationwide to check if their child’s car seat is the right fit with Mothercare Ireland’s fitting experts, who’ll be providing their top tips on saying yes to the perfect car seat.

The findings from the first ever Topaz ‘Check It Fits’ survey has revealed some very interesting facts when it comes to parents and families mindset when it comes to purchasing and fitting a child’s car seat.

To be sure – or not to be sure!
A key topic that split respondents was whether they can truly say they feel car seat confident. When asked if they were sure if they knew how to fit a car seat correctly, 29% of those surveyed admitted that while they feel they would be able to give it a go, they wouldn’t know for sure if they have fitted the seat correctly.
Just over half of us on the other hand would feel we’re experts at fitting a car seat and 6% wouldn’t even know where to start! That’s not all – just under 40% of us feel they would need to be guided by a store assistant in purchasing a car seat that’s the perfect fit.

Making a car seat choice that’s as good as new
The survey findings further solidify that it’s a family affair that’s firmly in Ireland’s driving seat. 28% of respondents noted that it would be Mum who would be the main driver for a family journey with 68% of us driving our Dads to take the steering wheel on a family road trip. Sometimes all it takes is a little teamwork to drive the right decision, with three quarters of Irish parents making that crucial call together on what car seat to buy for their child.

27% would accept nothing less than the latest car seat product on the market and perhaps it’s unsurprising then that only 5% would choose style over substance when purchasing a car seat for their newborn.

Now it’s time to Check It Fits with Topaz and Mothercare Ireland!
Throughout the month of August, Topaz and Mothercare Ireland will be embarking on a journey to help Irish motorists ensure their child’s safety with the rollout of the Check it Fits campaign. The Check It Fits roadshow will be touring the country over the coming weeks and encouraging the nation to check your child’s car seat is the right fit before taking it on the road.

Details of the full rollout will be announced by Topaz Energy on Facebook as theCheck It Fits roadshow comes to a forecourt near you, with Mothercare Ireland’s car fitting experts on hand to make sure your car seat is good to go.

Marketing Director of Mothercare Ireland, Laura Ward said: “I am delighted to be at Topaz City Avenue today to announce that we’re teaming up with Topaz and taking our Check It Fits activations back on the road. Like parents across the country, safety is a priority for us and we’re asking customers across the Topaz and Re.Store network to join us at selected forecourts nationwide and check if your child’s car seat is the right fit for your vehicle.

We hope that the results of this survey will encourage people nationwide to take some time out and spend just a few minutes with our car fitting experts in their local Topaz this August before taking their brand new seat for a spin.

MJ Tierney, Topaz Brand Manager said: “We’re delighted to partner with Mothercare Ireland as they continue to provide this invaluable car fitting service to families across the country free of charge. Whether you’re fitting a car seat for the very first time or you’re a rookie at the seat fitting game like myself, each seat fits differently and it’s crucially important for child safety to ensure that your car seat is fitted correctly.

It’s a fantastic opportunity for Topaz to partner with a fantastic brand like Mothercare to bring the Check It Fits campaign directly to our customers, demonstrating our ongoing commitment to local communities by offering vital services at forecourts nationwide’.

Topaz recognised as one of the Best Large Workplaces in Europe for the fourth time

One of only three Irish companies to be recognised
DUBLIN, IRELAND, 2016-Jun-29 — /EPR Retail News/ — Topaz, the country’s largest fuel and convenience retailer has been recognised as one of the Best Large Workplaces in Europe for the fourth time.

The company emerged in 9th position when the Best Large Workplaces in Europe were announced at a black tie event attended by over 400 people in the RDS in Dublin. It’s the first time Topaz, which was acquired by the Couche-Tarde Group late last year, has made it into the top ten. Topaz was one of only three Irish companies to be recognised in the Large Workplace category.

In February the company was recognised as one of the Best Workplaces in Ireland for the 11th time and presented with a Laureate in recognition of ten years consistent ranking in Ireland’s annual Best Workplaces list.

Ruth Mellett Director of Human Resources at Topaz said it was a fantastic achievement for Topaz to be recognised on the European stage.

“Achieving a top ten position is huge for us especially following on from the award in February. The quality of the companies we were up against in sectors like financial services, information technology, telecommunications as well as retail was of an extremely high standard. Just as in Ireland, we are the only fuel and convenience retailer on this European wide list, so that makes it hugely satisfying and reinforces our position as an industry leader” she said.

“This is a very exciting time for the company, following on from our acquisition of Esso’s Irish business and then becoming part of the Couche-Tard family. Our aim at all times is to enhance the customer experience and our success in that regard is due to the professionalism and dedication of our employees. We would like to thank each and every one of them – all 2,000 – for helping to make Topaz such a great place to work” Mellett concluded.

Best Workplaces sets out to recognise the finest employers and therefore the most satisfied workforces in Europe. It is the largest employment survey of its type.

Topaz supports Jack & Jill Children’s Foundation through new initiative ‘The LEGO® Exchange’

Fundraising drive launched across the Topaz network in aid of the Children’s Charity

DUBLIN, IRELAND, 2016-May-03 — /EPR Retail News/ — Topaz, Ireland’s largest fuel and convenience retailer, today announced its support for ‘The LEGO® Exchange’, a new initiative that is seeing much-needed funds raised for their charity partner, the Jack & Jill Children’s Foundation, through unwanted Lego donations to fund home nursing care for sick children nationwide.

The retailer is calling on customers across the Topaz and Re.Store network to donate their unwanted, loose Lego bricks with all proceeds going to Jack & Jill. Every €16 raised will deliver 1 hour of home nursing care to families in need. The charity drive aims to fund thousands of home nursing hours with the contribution of Topaz staff and customers in this Lego ‘exchange’ to fund home nursing care hours.  It is hoped that families, preschools, schools and businesses across the country will jump on board and donate their unwanted Lego to Jack & Jill.

Topaz have already launched this initiative at 5 of their locations where customers can donate LEGO directly onsite. These sites include Clonshaugh, in North Co. Dublin, Kilmacanogue in South Dublin, Kill in West Dublin, Newcastle in Co. Galway, and Douglas in Co. Cork with more locations to follow. People can also donate their Lego by dropping it off at one of 38 DPD Ireland depots situated across the country, or the Lego can be donated or sold at the Jack & Jill Charity Boutique’s located in Newbridge, Arklow, Wicklow, Carlow, Crookstown and Naas, where bricks are being bought for €4 a kilo.  All Lego drop off points are listed on www.jackandjill.ie

The Jack & Jill Foundation, which was founded in 1997, provides direct funding to families of children up to the age of 4 years old suffering from severe intellectual and physical developmental delay as a result of brain damage, enabling them to purchase home nursing and respite care.

While parenting for most is about feeding, changing, teething, and wishing for a good night’s sleep, parenting for the families supported by Jack & Jill involves coping with seizures, feeding tubes and pain, alongside medication, physio appointments and hospital visits.

CEO and founder of the Jack & Jill Children’s Foundation, Jonathan Irwin welcomed the fundraising drive saying: “I am delighted to be at the brand new Topaz City Avenue site today along with Jack & Jill Fundraising Director Deirdre Walsh and we wish to thank our brand partner Topaz for their support in driving The LEGO® Exchange. This campaign is about finding a new home for your unwanted Lego bricks and raising money for home nursing care to help change a young child’s life for the better. We ask customers across the Topaz and Re.Store network to rescue their loose Lego for us, whether they might be stored in a cupboard or hidden under a bed.  No need for boxes, instructions, or full sets – it’s the loose Lego bricks that we’re after.

This fundraising drive by Topaz, along with DPD Ireland’s 32 depots across the country, will make a significant difference to The LEGO® Exchange, through providing financial support to families in need. It also reminds these families that they’re not alone and that others care across the country. Thank you so much to everyone involved”.

MJ Tierney, Topaz Brand Manager said: “It’s impossible to fully comprehend the challenges faced by families across Ireland with children affected by severe neurological issues. The work of the Jack & Jill Foundation provides invaluable support to those who are in need of a helping hand. We’re delighted to be supporting this very worthy cause which we believe will change many lives for the better. This is a hugely creative fundraising initiative which we believe will go far in lending a helping hand to families who need it”.

The LEGO® Exchange is part of an ongoing, three-year charity partnership that will see €400,000 in much needed funding raised for Jack & Jill. Topaz and Re.Store customers can pledge their support to the Jack & Jill Foundation by donating their small change in stores across the network, with the ‘Small Change for Big Change’ campaign. Further staff and company charity engagements are also in planning for the coming months as Topaz aims to raise €200,000 in aid of the children’s charity this year.

Topaz Re.Store concept won the NACS Insight 2015 International Convenience Retailer of the Year Award

LONDON, 2015-6-16 — /EPR Retail News/ — Topaz has won the NACS Insight 2015 International Convenience Retailer of the Year Award for its Re.Store convenience forecourt concept. The award, sponsored by Imperial Tobacco Group, was presented during the NACS Insight Convenience Summit – Europe in London on June 11.

With more than 330 locations across the country, Topaz is Ireland’s largest fuel and convenience brand. Topaz opened its Re.Store concept at its Manor Stone Ballacolla forecourt, located at junction 3 on the M8 Dublin to Cork Motorway, in January 2015.

“In an increasing number of markets, convenience and fuel retail stores are our main link to consumers and they play a vital role in helping us build brand equity,” said Ramon Kuijpers, international key accounts manager at Imperial Tobacco Group. “We want to recognize these stores for their professional support and for putting the shopper at the heart of their business in a challenging and competitive environment. Simply put, at the end of the day it all happens on the shop floor and that is why we feel passionately about this award and have sponsored it for the last seven years.”

Competition for this year’s Convenience Retailer of the Year Award was incredibly strong, with nine extraordinary companies – four from Ireland, two from the United Kingdom, and one each from Norway, Switzerland and Argentina – selected by convenience and fuel retailing industry peers as finalists.

“Judging the winner this year was very challenging in such a competitive field. Topaz is looking to redefine convenience retailing with this new format and I genuinely feel it deserves the accolade ‘next generation.’ Thanks to the scale of its recent capital investments, Topaz has not simply built one stunning flagship store; it is rolling it out at considerable pace,” said Dan Munford, managing director of Insight.

Since opening its doors six months ago, food accounts for a significant portion of Re.Store’s sales. Customers can choose from a variety of fresh options such as salads and sandwiches, as well as gluten-free foods and protein-rich porridge pots. The store’s coffee program, complete with trained baristas, is also a key contributor to Re.Store’s bottom line, accounting for one third of coffee sales.

Henry Armour, president and CEO at NACS, said: “Topaz demonstrates that great, nutritious and healthy foods are meeting today’s shopper needs along with traditional convenience store offers. This is a movement taking shape across the globe and we are thrilled that companies such as Topaz are leading the way.”

Since 2009, the NACS Insight International Convenience Retailer of the Year Award has recognized excellence in convenience and forecourt retailing on an international stage and celebrates the best convenience retail formats from around the world. Retailers are judged across key criteria including format innovation, range, people development, customer service initiatives, corporate social responsibility, technology and results.

Now in its second year, the NACS Insight Convenience Summit – Europe (conveniencesummit.com) brings together convenience and fuel retailing industry professionals from around the world to discuss new ideas and gain new commercial connections. This year’s event kicked off in Berlin on June 7 and ends on June 12 in London.
