Foodstuffs stores implemented additional security protocols to give customers confidence in the infant formula shelf

Wellington, New Zealand, 2015-3-13 — /EPR Retail News/ — The news yesterday about the threat to infant formula is very concerning and we know we have an important role to play in keeping customer confidence in the security of the products we sell.

Across our Foodstuffs stores of New World, PAK’nSAVE and Four Square we are committed to ensuring parents and caregivers can continue to access their normal range of infant formula.

We have implemented a number of additional security protocols through our supply chain and in-store to give customers confidence in the infant formula purchased from our stores.  Our approach is essentially to ‘bring security to the shelf’.

This means all customers entering a Foodstuffs store will be subject to heightened surveillance and there will be higher security in-store. Some of this security is covert and customers may not notice it at all. But in our New World and PAK’nSAVE stores customers are likely to see some obvious security measures, including:

  • Continuous CCTV monitoring of shelf
  • Signage advising customers of the threat
  • The physical presence of an ‘Infant Formula Milk Monitor’ at the shelf who is responsible for visually monitoring the product on shelf and with giving infant formula customers the MPI consumer guide on how to check for tampering
  • Our check out staff will also be giving customers purchasing infant formula a copy of the MPI consumer guide so that they can check any product purchased for tampering

In smaller New Worlds or Four Square stores where full CCTV coverage at shelf is not possible customers can expect to see:

  • Signage advising customers of the threat
  • Infant formula moved to in front of check out so that staff can continually visually monitor the product
  • Check out staff will also be giving customers purchasing infant formula a copy of the MPI consumer guide so that they can check any product purchased for tampering

Feedback from customers on the security measures that were implemented yesterday has been very positive. We have been told that customers feel reassured that there is a physical presence monitoring the product in-store and they appreciate the ability to be able to buy the much needed product as part of their normal supermarket shop, albeit with heightened security.

Advice from the MPI
As advised by MPI any customer who has a concern that their infant formula has been tampered with should call MPI on 0800 00 83 33 and they will advise of the appropriate actions that need to be taken. We would ask customers to not take any suspect product back to store.

Any customer who has a concern about their child’s health should contact their health provider or go to their local Hospital Accident and Emergency immediately. Parents can also call Healthline on 0800 611 116 for health advice from experienced registered nurses who provide health information and recommend appropriate care to callers.

If you require support about what to feed your baby then Plunket is also available on 0800 933 922.

Foodstuffs ensures Kiwi families can have confidence in the infant formula purchased from our stores

Wellington, New Zealand, 2015-3-13 — /EPR Retail News/ — Foodstuffs is committed to ensuring Kiwi families can have confidence in the infant formula purchased from our stores. While the Police assess the risk of the contamination threat being carried out as low we are still taking the threat very seriously and are putting in place all possible precautions to protect customers.

We are doing everything we can to ensure the product is safe and is not able to be tampered with. Across our stores we have put additional security and controls in place to safeguard the product and make sure it is protected and delivered to customers securely. This means all customers entering a Foodstuffs store will be subject to heightened surveillance and there will be higher security in-store.

All Foodstuffs stores will be providing the Ministry for Primary Industries (MPI) consumer guide which will provide customers with details on how to check the product they are purchasing is safe and has not been tampered with.

We know that families will want to ensure they have an ongoing safe supply for their children, and we are committed to managing infant formula supply to ensure product is available for all. To facilitate this, for now, we are limiting customer purchases to two tins per customer per product line.

Foodstuffs is liaising with the relevant authorities including MPI and the Police. MPI is the lead agency in this investigation so please contact them on 0800 00 83 33 for further information. We suggest customers go to the MPI’s www.foodprotection.govt.nz website for all available information on this issue.

As advised by MPI any customer who has a concern that their infant formula has been tampered with should call MPI on 0800 00 83 33 and they will advise of the appropriate actions that need to be taken. We would ask customers tonottake any suspect product back to their local store.

Any customer who has a concern about their child’s health should contact their health provider or go to their local Hospital Accident and Emergency immediately. We take pride in The SM Store’s commitment in staying true to our slogan of ‘We’ve Got It All for You’,” SM Retail President Jorge Mendiola said.

The recent opening of The SM Store Megacenter in Cabanatuan, Nueva Ecija, the 50th store in the Philippines, and 21st store in Luzon, marked a milestone that brings the SM Store’s total footprint to 669,658 square meters in terms of gross selling area. The SM Store Megacenter consists of two levels, showcasing Shoes and LuggagesLadies WearMen’s WearChildren’s WearHome Items and Appliances.

Henry Sy, Sr. built his first shoe store in Quiapo in 1948 and later opened two more outlets namely Plaza, Paris and Park Avenue stores. Ten years later, Sy consolidated his holdings in the three stores and built a bigger shoe store in 1958 in Carriedo and named it ShoeMart.

From approximately annual sales of 200,000 pairs of shoes when the store in Carriedo made an indelible mark in the shoe business, the SM Store now sells millions of shoes every year, having sold 24.3 million pairs of footwear in 2014 alone.

Sy once said: “When I began selling shoes in Manila right after the Second World War, I thought then that if I sold a pair of shoes to every Filipino, even with very low margins, I would be a successful businessman.”

True enough today, The SM Store, has been redefining the customer shopping experience in the Philippines. Its exciting array of merchandise from fashion to home furnishings is complemented by inspired and aspirational store designs that likewise offer convenience and accessibility.

The SM Store has changed the business landscape of retailing by further enhancing customer experience through added services such as bills payments, concert ticket sales, and government requirements. The Defense Commissary Agency: There’s more to discover and many more ways to save at commissaries.com

FORT LEE, Va., 2015-3-13 — /EPR Retail News/ — Most of us can appreciate saving a little cash on groceries. Whether single or a family of eight, every dollar helps.

“When service members show their military ID to shop in their commissary it’s their ticket to savings on groceries and household items,” said Gary Frankovich, chief of strategic communications at the Defense Commissary Agency.

Frankovich says some service members may be leaving money on the table and not saving the most they possibly can from their benefit simply by not using features of the commissary’s website, www.commissaries.com.

“If you haven’t been to the commissary website lately you may be surprised at the number of sales, services and programs available to help you keep a little more of that green stuff in your pocket and in your bank account,” he added.

Here are some of the site’s highlights accessible from the menu bar at the top of the homepage.

Under the Shopping tab:

  • Launched the spring of 2014, the commissary Sales and Events page features the current commissary sales flyer. Shoppers can log in to confirm they are authorized commissary shoppers and see pictures of products on sale with sale prices. The flyer changes every two weeks as products go on and off sale. The page also lists new products, and an Exclusive Savings link to coupons and other offers from commissary vendors
  • The Savings Aisle allows visitors to see every product on sale after selecting a specific store from the drop down menu. Medium and large commissaries will have more sale products listed because only products available in all commissaries – small and large – appear on the sales flyer
  • The Commissary Rewards Card section explains the commissary’s hassle-free, online digital coupon program. Authorized shoppers can register their card and add coupons here
  • Other money-saving features include the ability to subscribe to the Commissary Connection e-newsletter, find dates and locations of future Guard and Reserve on-site sales and place an order for Commissary Gift Cards. There’s even a video explaining the Commissary Value Brands – one of the best ways to save in the commissary.

Under the Healthy Living tab:

Other homepage features include a Locations tab that makes it easier for site visitors to find a store. Each commissary has its own pages with hours of operation, telephone numbers, email addresses, directions and a place for the store director to add store news.

“The commissary is a benefit that military members have earned through service to their country and one the Defense Commissary Agency is proud to deliver,” Frankovich said. “There’s more to discover and many more ways to save at commissaries.com.”

About DeCA: The Defense Commissary Agency operates a worldwide chain of commissaries providing groceries to military personnel, retirees and their families in a safe and secure shopping environment. Authorized patrons purchase items at cost plus a 5-percent surcharge, which covers the costs of building new commissaries and modernizing existing ones. Shoppers save an average of more than 30 percent on their purchases compared to commercial prices – savings amounting to thousands of dollars annually. A core military family support element, and a valued part of military pay and benefits, commissaries contribute to family readiness, enhance the quality of life for America’s military and their families, and help recruit and retain the best and brightest men and women to serve their country.
