Hy-Vee, Inc. awarded 130 One Step Garden Grants totaling $52,000 to community organizations

Sales of One Step Russet Potatoes provide grants for 130 community gardens.

WEST DES MOINES, Iowa, 2015-4-8 — /EPR Retail News/ — Hy-Vee, Inc. has awarded 130 One Step Garden Grants totaling $52,000 to community organizations and Hy-Vee stores this spring as part of the Hy-Vee One Step program.

The $400 grants will be used to purchase seeds, plants, garden tools and food preservation equipment for community gardens. One Step Garden Grants are given to community gardens that teach those in need about health and nutrition through the process of planting, tending and harvesting their own fruits and vegetables.

Hy-Vee’s One Step program uses a portion of the proceeds from the sale of earth-friendly, everyday products to benefit local and worldwide charitable causes. The products include a 5-pound bag of russet potatoes, shredded wheat cereal, paper towels and bottled water. Sales of One Step Russet Potatoes fund the One Step Garden Grants; for each bag a customer purchases, 5 cents goes toward funding the community garden grants.

“At Hy-Vee, we believe in giving back to our communities. What better way to educate our communities about healthy eating than to help them grow their own produce,” said Jen Kopriva, group vice president of private brands at Hy-Vee. “Health and wellness has long been a cornerstone of our business, and the One Step Garden Grants allow us to take that commitment one step further.”

Community groups or organizations can apply for the grants each year on Hy-Vee’s website. The applications are judged based on demonstrated participation of community stakeholders; consideration of challenges that come with maintaining a community garden; the integration of the garden into the community; and intended use of the garden’s produce.

Hy-Vee has awarded more than 420 garden grants since 2013. Overall, the One Step program has donated more than $730,000 in product sales since its inception in 2011.

EPA awarded CBRE Group, Inc. 2015 ENERGY STAR® Partner of the Year – Sustained Excellence Award

2015 Energy Star® Partner Of The Year-Sustained Excellence
Top Service Firm In “Certification Nation” Promotion

Los Angeles, CA, 2015-4-8 — /EPR Retail News/ — The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) has awarded CBRE Group, Inc. (NYSE:CBG) a 2015 ENERGY STAR® Partner of the Year – Sustained Excellence Award in recognition of its continued leadership in protecting the environment through superior energy efficiency achievements. This marks the eighth consecutive year that CBRE has been recognized for ENERGY STAR performance.

CBRE also took top honors among all real estate service providers by certifying 406 buildings during 2014—the most of any building owner or manager in the year-long Certification Nation promotion sponsored by EPA. Certification Nation 2014 celebrated 15 years of ENERGY STAR certification for buildings by awarding special recognition for multiple-building certifications and CBRE achieved the highest accolade, “Elite Member,” in that program.

Since its inception in 1992, ENERGY STAR and its partners have helped prevent a total of more than two billion metric tons of greenhouse gas emissions. In 2013 alone, ENERGY STAR and its partners provided more than $11 billion in societal benefits due to reducing damages from climate change.

“Sustainability is a core value of our company and our service to clients, “said David Pogue, CBRE’s Global Director of Corporate Responsibility. “Our partnership with ENERGY STAR is an essential way we increase energy efficiency and deliver real advantage for our clients,”

“Being named an Elite Member of the Certification Nation program recognition is a further testament to the strength of our sustainability program and the dedication of our Asset Services teams,” Mr. Pogue added.

“Through their sustained participation with ENERGY STAR, CBRE is helping Americans save money, save energy, and do their part to reduce our nation’s greenhouse gas emissions that fuel climate change,” said EPA Administrator Gina McCarthy. “I applaud CBRE for earning EPA’s highest ENERGY STAR award, the 2015 Partner of the Year – Sustained Excellence Award, demonstrating a strong commitment to energy efficiency and to preserving a healthy planet for future generations.”

CBRE assists owners and occupiers with energy efficiency programs at properties it manages around the world. Since first developing CBRE’s sustainability program in 2006, ENERGY STAR has remained the operational framework for advancing energy efficiency practices in its managed portfolio. These efforts continue to produce powerful results:

  • Since 2007, the company has benchmarked office buildings managed by its U.S. Asset Services Group with ENERGY STAR.
  • Today, 1,229 buildings representing more than 229 million square feet are participating in the program, significantly more than from any other third-party management firm.
  • In comparison with the previous year, the 1,229 participating buildings experienced a savings of 3,392 metric tons of CO2e; the equivalent of reducing 8,078,571 average passenger vehicle miles driven in an entire year.
  • CBRE’s 406 ENERGY STAR buildings under management represent almost 5% of the 8,804 U.S. office buildings labeled.

CBRE offers a wide range of sustainability initiatives under its Environmental Sustainability program, which includes global commitments in 11 key areas of environmentally sound performance, including resource management, occupancy, communications and training, public policy and procurement. The program provides best practices and initiatives that strengthen CBRE’s own environmental commitment, reflect the best environmental practices in our clients’ properties, and provide vital training and education to CBRE professionals.

Dunkin’ Donuts signed multi-unit store development agreements with two existing franchise groups to develop seven restaurants in Illinois

CANTON, MA, 2015-4-8 — /EPR Retail News/ — Dunkin’ Donuts, America’s all-day, everyday stop for coffee and baked goods, announced today the signing of multi-unit store development agreements with two existing franchise groups to develop seven restaurants in Illinois over the next several years.

The two franchise groups and their development plans include:

  • Existing franchisees Krishna Patel and Rashimi (Sim) Patel plan to develop four Dunkin’ Donuts locations throughout Champaign, one of which will be located outside of the major metropolitan area. This duo currently operates six Dunkin’ Donuts restaurants in Joliet, Romeoville, Plainfield, and Shorewood. Their next restaurant in Decatur is planned to open in Summer 2015, and the remainder by 2019.
  • Existing franchise Asif Rajabali plans to develop three Dunkin’ Donuts restaurants that will be located in smaller towns and communities outside Rockford. Rajabali currently owns and operates two Dunkin’ Donuts restaurants in Bartlett and Elgin. His next restaurant is planned to open in Winter 2015, and the remainder by 2017.

Currently, there are 591 Dunkin’ Donuts restaurants located throughout Illinois. The company is continuing to recruit franchisees in Quincy and throughout cities and towns outside the greater metropolitan areas of Champaign and Peoria. To help fuel growth in Illinois, special development incentives are available which include reduced royalty fees for three years and up to $5,000 in local store marketing support for timely openings.*

In an effort to keep the brand fresh and competitive, Dunkin’ Donuts offers flexible concepts for any real estate format including free-standing restaurants, end caps, in-line sites, gas and convenience, travel plazas, universities, as well as other retail environments.

“Our enthusiastic and dedicated franchisees contribute to our brands’ growth, which has helped solidify our position as one of the fastest growing companies by unit count in the quick-service restaurant industry,” said Grant Benson, CFE, vice president of global franchising and business development, Dunkin’ Brands. “We are thrilled these existing franchisees have expanded their portfolios in the Illinois market, and know these new restaurants they are developing will satisfy a growing consumer demand in the Champaign and Rockford communities.”

Dunkin’ Donuts’ new look includes four distinct restaurant design options for franchisees, each featuring variations in layout, color schemes, graphics, textures, furniture and/or lighting. The designs enhance the current restaurant appearance, environment and layout to serve people all day long. Unlike other quick-service restaurants, Dunkin’ Donuts allows franchisees to select individual elements from any of the four options, creating a restaurant design that reflects their personal tastes and preferences, and best serves their specific restaurant size and location.

Since the 1950s, Dunkin’ Donuts has been a daily ritual for millions of people and has offered guests delicious food, beverages and friendly service at a great value. Dunkin’ Donuts offerings include iced coffee, flavored coffees, lattes, Dunkin’ Donuts K-Cup® Packs, Coolatta® frozen drinks, donuts, muffins, bagels, breakfast and bakery sandwiches, and a DDSMART® menu featuring better-for-you items.
